Kendal’s existence is entirely unprecedented, and the Lady didn’t even know who or what he was (likely because she’s not a god int he way every other got Kendal meets is) so there’s no reason to think he is immune.
All BWEEMed up and nowhere to go… I’m honestly surprised Kendal was arguing as if that’d work, does he not know it Definitely Wouldn’t or is he arguing against Stephan’s plan of action in general despite the mind reading shortcut in general being doomed to fail? He isn’t saying anything specifically ABOUT the mind reading, but I’m honestly not sure whether the squad’s actually noticed “immunity to mental attacks” is one of Kendal’s weird powers yet.
I do not think he was entirely aware that he would be immune. He is, in a lot of ways, a construct, with the immunities that come from that, including to mind effects.
I think it’s more so that Kendal doesn’t have any part of the Dragon in himāsince the paladins are just using another form of Void, and Void seems to work like any other element (can’t be created, just harnessed), there’s nothing inside Kendal that the paladins are capable of affecting. Of course, they don’t know this, so from their perspective his mind is either empty or more well-guarded than anyone else they’ve ever seen.
Stefan: He’s immune to my psychic attacks? Then … he must be a Dark-type! In league with the dragon! Kendal: Eh, I’m more Fairy/Steel or Fairy/Fighting, thus immune to Dragon based attacks. Stefan: … That’s also possible.
I wonder about panel 5, the one looking down from the volcano at the sea and light; is that to communicate how bright Stefan’s technique is, or is it implying someone (Rakhn) is watching from afar. We can imply from the chapter cover the eruption will take centre stage later, but could Rakhn appear personally to greet the interlopers?
Typical, the first gang member the Paladins truly corner, and he’s immune to interrogation. It’s a good thing Tess and Falst remained hidden; they can’t afford anyone else getting captured and read by Stefan. Maybe with Kendal giving them the silent treatment, inside and out, the Paladins will try to look for them next.
So, I assume “mind reading” also uses traces of dragons that are present in every soul… except Kendal. The same reason Dark one had problems with Kendal, no reason for his opposite to be different.
More likely it is the same explanation as his immunity to Void consuming power.
Void can destroy living things so easily as it resonates with trace amounts of Void element within them.
It is likely that Light mind-magic is also predicated on interaction with Light(Void) element within living beings.
And Kendal is build without any of it in him. Thus, nothing to latch onto for both Void Dragon and his Light twin.
I remember a conversation about transmutation where they conjecture void and light are the same element. Kendall is resistant to Void as he does not have it within him which makes the Void dragon not disintegrate him.
Most elements are difficult to interact with due to the soul, but I suppose Void, and therefore Light, are different. This power seems to use Light to read someone’s mind, and I think Kendall is immune since he has no Void element.

As other commenters mentioned we have Word of God confirmation that other gods are mostly 1-2 elements and we have in-text implications like crumbling vs bleeding, Kendal confirming that Vash likes cake, etc.; that plus Alinua’s overflow heal is what made Kendal an anomaly. Before she healed him (uncontrollably), he wasn’t able to heal himself. Vash normally heals by reconstituting the body from base materials, I think (see end of Tynan fight) but Kendal wasn’t able heal autonomously until Alinua’s healing happened (this is said somewhere in-text but I forget where). After the Tynan fight Alinua says that the reason why Vash can’t re-heal Kendal’s body anymore is because of whatever it is she did. Kendal’s soul is separately also weird, though; Alinua changed his body and allowed him to be fully functional as a human, but Kendal’s sapience comes from another source from BEFORE Alinua healed him. …I don’t have any theories as to why that is, but my current guess is the same way that golems can be semi-sentient after a god controls them long enough; a little bit of the soul rubs off. He’s a literal demigod, a little splinter of Vash’s soul left behind because Vash lived there for a hot second. Maybe. I do like the theory that he’s literally Kendal, the spirit of the sword, as well. Same idea of “god soul energy left behind through years of use” but the sword first.
We haven’t really seen a god besides Vash use all six elements when crafting a vessel. Lady Illia used mostly water, Gliecann used mostly life, and Zuurith used mostly stone (with a bit of water mixed in), and Caliban uses mostly fire and stone. Vash specifically made his vessel differently to the point where it even bled when stabbed, while when Zurrith’s and Caliban’s vessels got damaged, they crumbled/disintegrated. Vash didn’t use Void when making Kendal because he didn’t know that was a thing that existed and he didn’t need consumption to make a battle vessel.
I think it’s likely Argist used all the elements as well, because he’s the only god besides Vash we’ve seen so far who’s incarnated in a body shown to be capable of eating and drinking, as shown by his love of tea.

This would probably be the single page in which Lord Stefan looks the most villainous. Interesting, since I would say that he is not a villain, only an antagonist (a villain is evil [more or less,] an antagonist is just against the main character or characters.)
This is also, I would say, the single most movie-worthy page of this comic I’ve seen. I also really like the way this page looks, and I like seeing the draconic eyes on Lord Stefan, which I think likely means that the Lady is in his head right now. If this is true, this could get interesting.
You know, the paladins being antagonistic toward Erin was basically inevitable given the whole dark avatar thingā¢, but it’s impressive how much they’re sinking any hope of ever getting help from some people especially capable of dealing with the dragon.
Especially right now, and probably the next arc (I’m fairly certain Kendal will be taken captive), they’re really antagonizing Alinua & Falst indirectly.
Falst because he’s just really loyal, and also those threats on his life, and not to mention the strong evidence that his dad was a paladin.
Alinua is even better, because she’s the third primordial avatar running around they’re completely unaware of and being to nice to Kendal is probably going to put them on her shit list forever.

This would probably be the single page in which Lord Stefan looks the most villainous. Interesting, since I would say that he is not a villain, only an antagonist (a villain is evil [more or less,] an antagonist is just against the main character or characters.)
This is also, I would say, the single most movie-worthy page of this comic I’ve seen. I also really like the way this page looks, and I like seeing the draconic eyes on Lord Stefan, which I think likely means that the Lady is in his head right now. If this is true, this could get interesting.
The only thing in Kendal’s mind is a small, low-poly 3D model of Kendal rotating about various axes.

You know, the paladins being antagonistic toward Erin was basically inevitable given the whole dark avatar thingā¢, but it’s impressive how much they’re sinking any hope of ever getting help from some people especially capable of dealing with the dragon.
Especially right now, and probably the next arc (I’m fairly certain Kendal will be taken captive), they’re really antagonizing Alinua & Falst indirectly.
Falst because he’s just really loyal, and also those threats on his life, and not to mention the strong evidence that his dad was a paladin.
Alinua is even better, because she’s the third primordial avatar running around they’re completely unaware of and being to nice to Kendal is probably going to put them on her shit list forever.
