Falst in panel 2 🙁 like he doesn’t even look angry he’s in such grief. Man, rakhn showing up is absolutely unexpected but I bet it will make sense retroactively as we get to know him more.
OH GOLLY ME FALST NO!!! RAKHN PLEASE BE NICE HE’S SUFFERING ENOUGH!!! You ruined his cliffside brooding… I wonder if Rakhn is mad because of the … massive hole in his island, or … maaaaybe he’ll help? Please?
I was kinda wondering why Rakhn’s being aggro about it when he seemed actually jovial they pulled a fast one on him earlier, but if the suggestions of Falst seeming to have ties to paladins and/or the light dragon (even if he’s unaware of such) are true it makes sense I think. Rakhn’s seeing the paladins flooding the island and causing a ruckus -a fact the paladins even noted they’re aware he’d be not keen on, and might be under the impression Falst lead them there? Another comment said Falst’s still got the seed or whatnot, maybe it weakens him somewhat and thus even if he doesn’t have an inkling Falst’s seemingly getting light magic (which to Rakhn might be overt confirmation Falst’s a paladin even if he ain’t) it could still seem like Falst is “with them” enough to have committed the heist so as to soften Rakhn up for an invasion or whatever. Or in a similar but less “he’s jumping to conclusions” vein maybe it is still about the seed but more of a “you have something that belongs to me. I’ll need it if you and your friends are to survive this” sorta thing. In which case the grabbing Falst would be less attacking him and more just theatrical intimidation (perhaps not *wholly* just for show though. Could be one of those “mostly just for show but with a bit of legitimacy behind it as an unspoken ‘don’t test me’ sorta thing” or something). Idk. A lot of this mightn’t even make sense but just kinda spitballing I guess 🤷♀️.
Rakhn: Quickly little thief, to the conversation crater!
(1960’s Batman transition scene and jingle)
I did not see this coming; I thought Falst could be visited by a god, but not him, and not for whatever reason he likely has. While Rakhn did find the fireseed shard theft novel and amusing, I guess, as a god, he can’t let it stand without doing anything. Or maybe he has other plans for Falst and the shard beyond divine obligations.
Looks like Falst will have to compartmentalise his anguish for later and focus on survival, again.
Let’s not panic just yet though. Rakhn, although in fiery form, is speaking calmly and wants to talk, so Falst isn’t in immediate danger. I’m also quietly confident Rakhn may like him; having nothing by polite and reverent talk from his people for years, Falst’s snarkiness could be a breath of fresh air.
Maybe by the end of it, he’ll even get a better epithet; “little thief”, while fitting, is a bit underwhelming.
The volcano is looking more active and prettier every time we see it; love the way Red captures light from the lava on the clouds. Lightning too? Looks like another bout of volcanic weather, which may actually be a good thing!
The gang is already planning on traveling underwater, but the Paladins got here, and will likely leave, by flying. If a volcanic storm happens, the Paldains will be grounded until it clears, but our heroes will escape the worst of it for a head start.
lolll falst noooo dont get attacked your so sexy haha
For mobile readers.

I guess it was too much to hope the Volcano would be chill going forward.
ba-dum tss
“chill”
Getting some real mixed signals here, Rakhn
i’m not sure that’s how you do a handshake
“There is tragic backstory you can give me that I have never seen before. For such a prize, I will not be denied!”
Okay. I was not expecting Rakhn.
Oh yeah he was still carrying around parts of the volcanoes heart around, wasn’t he
THIS IS REALLY NOT THE TIME, RAKHN
That is quite the dramatic entrance!
No worries! It’s just going to be a little heart-to-heart.

Give him a break!!

It’s a 50/50 on whether this really is just his way of being friendly.
