And that’s it for Arc 2 Chapter 2! I’ll be taking a few weeks off to rest up, build the buffer, write more, and crank the AC. Story resumes in September!
And that’s it for Arc 2 Chapter 2! I’ll be taking a few weeks off to rest up, build the buffer, write more, and crank the AC. Story resumes in September!
Him!! It’s him he’s here!! :OO
Everyone roll initiative!
Clickity Clackity, You’re about to get Attackity
Sounds like SHE’s here as well, possessing the Paladin?
The Collector?
The paladin’s goddess
Why would the Vash ghosts care about paladin stuff?
No, the Vash ghosts were talking about the Collector. They’re saying that LD’s possessing the Champion, the Collector isn’t here… yet.
🙂
Finally.
Someone let me know how many messages the Discord receives in…let’s say the next ten minutes.
(Also, obligatory “hey, that’s the same thing VD said after possessing Erin the first time!” Both of them even happened after Erin did something unwise involving all the elements.)
Also the same thing Life said when Alinua survived overchanneling her. Not exactly relevant to our current predicament, but it’s a thing that happened!
A running theme of immortal creatures (I don’t know how much that is the Light Dragon speaking in the last panel) having to be patient?
Probably; it’s a trend you see in storytelling a lot. If you ever watched Digimon Frontier, there was the “It is time” bit when each of the protagonists got their Spirit and activated it for the first time, and considering both in-series lore and the reveal in the final episode of just how massive the time difference between the two worlds was…
And based on the style, color, and effects on “Finally”, that is in fact the Light Dragon in control. This should be interesting…
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: and it only took him four years to catch up!
Twitter Text: very rude to show up uninvited
Tumblr text: finally!
Someone lands on the deck with a wham that shakes the deck, jolting Erin back. The Champion. Kendal grabs for his sword as Tess watches with surprise.
The Champion’s wings of light arc out above him as he lifts his head, revealing white, glowing eyes.
“Finally,” the Light Dragon says.
So yesterday I completely forgot about the page coming out and then after I went to bed I remembered and was like “Oh no. I should look at it. But I shouldn’t. But I need to.” So todays my first time seeing this page and WOW I just had to stare at it for a minute after I read that.
“FINALLY,” so that’s probably the Light Dragon possessing the Champion right now. I really don’t know what’ll happen next. RED I KNOW YOU NEED IT BUT HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US D,:
Have a good break!
Small edits:
Ugh I really wish there was an Edit button on comments, this like always happens
Someone lands on one knee on the deck with a wham that shakes the ship, jolting Erin back. The Champion. Kendal grabs for his sword as Tess watches with surprise.
The Champion’s wings of light arc out above him, bathing his back in light and face in shadow. He lifts his head, revealing white, glowing eyes.
“Finally”, the Light Dragon says.
Thanks for a great chapter! I’ll try to get the prologue done before chapter three starts.
The paladin descends through the floating rain,
On his wings of shining light.
“Finally,” he thinks, seeing Erin still channeling,
With his eyes of pure bright white.
The Champion of the Lady, hair white, clothes blue,
Touches down between Erin and the rest.
He gazes at the vessel of the Void before him,
With six other elements blessed.
A brilliant light, a thunderous landing
“FINALLY” says Michael, there standing
I failed. Or didn’t try, and instead did a bunch of other stuff. I’m very busy and hard-working, don’t look into it
FINALLY
Now that’s a Friday cliffhanger.
No that’s a SEPTEMBER cliffhanger
RED WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO USSSSSS
A new party member approaches
Lol imagine. That would rule though
I totally see a temporary alliance, especially with the collector coming close and hot on their trails (at least according to Kendal’s ream and the people of Vash).
So, I feel like at this point Kendal has been established to be a relatively chill dude with lightning reflexes, right?
The fact that he immediately grabs his sword while the champion is still landing makes the latter seem a whole lot more terrifying.
Ohh! I am wrong!
Hmmm, maybe I am not so wrong since Red is not going to reveal anything until some time in September. Red you tease! (pat back and waggle finger) (Feel free laugh and point at my bad guess) (wave)
Ok Michael, I know it took you 4 years to show up, but Erin’s really going through it rn, do you think you could wait like a little.
YO WHAT RED PLEASE LET NO HARM BE DONE TO THEM😭😭
nah but fr tho i wonder how the champion guy will react to erin and how erin is gonna handle this situation
and also lets not forget erins mental breakdown a page ago, we’re not letting u get away that easy bud
Ah crud.
OH SNAP
Ah shoot
Now would be a good time for him to notice that voidy is not in control.
…But a terrible time to conclude that means he should attack the host before he can manifest.
Ayyyy Michael you’re here!! Any chance you’re NOT trigger happy and wanting to have a peaceful conversation to figure out what’s going on before being the latest bullet on the Problems list?
Goddamnit, not the cliffhanger hiatus, NOOOOOO
Nooooo
At this point I feel like I’m writing this on every page but GAWD
This is so COOL
How is Erin still concentrating hard enough to hold up the spell??
Lots of determination and bullheadedness.
After the four year wait, it’s not just the Light Dragon saying “Finally” at this moment.
So that’s why Erin had the costume change; to better clash with the Champion for this meeting! After that redesign in chapter 19, the two of them are dressed very similarly, even down to the sleeve bracelets/cuffs, on top of their similar hair lengths, ages, and frames. Then after the comparisons are the contrasts in colour, not just black/white shirts and hair but purple/blue capes, and waviness of hair. Even if you knew nothing about these two characters you can tell they’re both related in a way yet in opposition of one another.
Speaking of the art, perfect introduction to the Champion here. Landing right in the middle without being blindingly flashy about it like Tynan; he’s here to get the job done quickly and decisively, not to impress or sneak about. I especially like how in panel 2 despite his glowing wings and light from all the magic around him, his front and face are in shadow; adds a nice bit of threat and mystery to him.
Looks like the shock of the new arrival has pushed Tess’s sadness/anger/hurt at Erin down, for now; the Erin therapy post-trauma dump and/or Ruunaser sibling talk will have to wait. Who knows? Maybe a tangible reminder of the danger and stress Erin is facing, in the form of a superpowered paladin who wants his head, combined with his previous outburst, might make the gang understand Erin’s plight better.
Prediction for next month: First will come diplomacy, trying to explain to the Champion that Erin wants the same thing he does without costing his life and is worth giving a shot. He’ll disagree.
Then comes the fight, with Erin indisposed, Falst at the helm, Alinua limited without dirt, and Dainix limited on a wooden deck, it’ll fall to Kendal and Tess to fight. And frankly, I see the possibility of them losing. (though I wonder if the Champion/Light Dragon would see Life inside Alinua, like V.D. did, and what their reaction would be)
If I had to wildly predict, they may have one last opportunity to evade him: Erin drops the spell while his wings are down. If they can catch him off guard like that, he could fall into the water and they could escape … but also run the risk of falling in themselves. And y’know what that would mean? A prefect opportunity for Red to split the party!
That would be unironically funny.
Erin drops the spell, and Light Dragon Paladin gets waa-ho-ho-ho-hooiii’d into the horizon from a sudden storm-strength wind smacking them in the face.
I hope that happens by Erin dropping the spell and Kendal takes the opportunity to tackle them off the edge of the boat, falling into the ocean in the process.
We’ve already been setting up that he doesn’t need to breathe, and he’s got metal in his bones such that I’m pretty sure he’ll just sink to the bottom. This way, we get fun hijinks of him alone at the bottom of the ocean, and the rest of the party probably thinks he’s dead until they get to land and Alinua does her looking thing and sees Kendal walking along the sea floor.
That scenario would also mean Vash’s warning to Kendal about, presumably, the Collector would not be communicated to the rest of the gang. Without that warning the Collector could ambush the gang while they wait for Kendal to reach them.
Frankly, I think The Champion is far more likely to try diplomacy first. He’s shown sympathy even towards Cave Crawlers, and Erin’s a lot more sentient than they are. It might be Erin, Tess, or Kendal, or even the Lady herself who inevitably triggers combat.
Agreed. No one is at full capacity right now, except maybe The Champion. We don’t know the extent of his abilities, but he’s been flying for four years straight, so he must be pretty tired. If Erin drops the spell, that could very well repel him (either fleeing back above the clouds or falling into the sea), but it will certainly send at least a few of our crew to the seafloor.
Naturally, the most likely to sink would be Kendal and Dainix, who have BOTH been foreshadowed to end up underwater. But in my mind, anyone’s a potential sinker. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone went under, although splitting the party does seem likely.
Oh, I will absolutely predict some highly refreshing and open diplomacy here, because Red doesn’t waste our time with irony for its own sake, or with contrived drama.
Also because I just flipped back a page, and right before Michael landed, Erin was yelling, “Can you save me from the Dragon?” I’m hoping Michael heard that!
I’m also going to more tentatively predict that we won’t be seeing much more of Tarren’s Masterpiece. I don’t think she’ll survive both this fight and the volcano. I was wrong about a Gilligan cut, but I still have a feeling they’re going to make landfall in a raft made out of floating wreckage.
I think the first thing we’ll get will be a quick recap of what the champion’s been up to since we last saw him, or even a quick overview of his whole backstory, although the backstory might fit bettern when/if he gets to tell the floof squad.
There almost is no shot of Tess and Kendal beating Mikey in a straight fight.(Toyko Revengers powerscaling not withstanding)
The light dragon stated that Michael is stronger than Walter. By a lot. Walter could probably defeat every member of the floof squad at once if not for Alinua’s connection to life. Kendals starfire might give them the necessary advantage, but I still think that they’ll probably lose.
However, I could see that they win if any of the following things happen
1. Life takes over Alinua
2. Danix goes demon
3. Erin and Walter work together(though this would incite further conflict
4. Kendal With This Sacred Treasure becomes vash.
5. Falst uses his claw of light thing
6. Tess 3. Dragons 0.
She never said he was stronger than the dragon, she only said they could fight back
The Light Dragon said to the Champion something like “we must move quickly. The avatar’s power does not yet rival your own” while they were talking, so I guess we’re still assuming that’s true, especially cause VD hasn’t actually appeared that much
She did say explicitly “the avatar’s power does not yet rival your own”. That might only have been about their respective dragon powers, but like, she must know Erin’s the elemental magus and account for that.
It is already Tess 3. Dragons 0. She’s hoping to make it 4/4.
Good lord, SO MANY GLOW EFFECTS! I’m so sorry you had to do this.
He looks so freaking cool right now.
Also oh hey, my prediction was right!
Great googly moogly it’s all gone to shit!!!
Yes! WHAM!
WELL IF THAT WASNT A CLIFFHANGER IDK WHAT WAS
THIS PAGE IS SO DRAMATIC AND PRETTY AAAAAAAAAA
after four years… FINALLY!
Oooh, shiny.
Either this guy is going to see reason, not attack, and possibly join the party, or he is going to attack and trigger a very risky fight for our protagonists. Similar to what Evil Tree said, the ship isn’t a good place for a fight. Alinua can still heal, but she can’t really grow plants very fast. Falst can still fight, but he’d be starting at the helm and be fighting with an injured arm. Dainix may be able to fight, but it would all go to pieces if he used or turned into his crucible form. Kendal and Tess will probably be unhindered, and Tess can even use that Chekhov’s gun that was in chapter 1 (I think), where she uses lightning while touching the metal on the boat and then electrocutes everyone else who is touching it. I’m not sure how Erin will fare during the fight, but I bet he didn’t put this on his “list of everything that could go wrong on the journey but that I will try to control anyways” list.
It was Page 4 of this chapter.
Well, Alinua could be INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS in this situation, but that would require her to be INCREDIBLY UNETHICAL. Whats a little carcinogenic mutation/ multiple organ failure between friends/ random sky dude trying to murder your friends?
She could just modify herself
I wonder if she could make herself gills to talk with the mermaids?
Oh gods
That is mildly horrifying
But thank you now I want to see her do that
Though I feel like it’s more a Collector thing Alinua wouldn’t do that
“FINALLY” IS RIGHT! FINALLY, HE’S HERE! CAN’T WAIT FOR SEPTEMBERRRRRR
I hope we learn what’s wrong with the other dragon, at least a little
I’m so excited for the next update!
VALSRAX AMBUSH! USE A FARCASTER ERIN!
let’s do it!
This is certainly a doozy of a cliffhanger. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
Oh cool, I’ll be moved into my new place in time for Chapter 3.
FINALLY, indeed. Banger of a cliffhanger to leave us on. Rest well!
I hope things go well for you 🙂 Moving is a paaaain.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s been quite a task, haha. So many logistics I’ve had to sort out… and the packing. Oh my goodness. The new place should be much nicer and more peaceful, though, so I’m hoping it’ll be well worth it.
Superhero landing, let’s go!!!!
Superhero landing!
Erin must have an impressive subroutine written to be able to keep that spell going with everything else going on. Unfortunately, he probably can’t move, and Michael (and his patroness) don’t appear to be in a very chatty mood.
Hot damn if all those glow effects don’t look amazing, though. Welcome back to the comic, Michael! (Have a good rest, Red!)
Well, they might be able to save you from /that/ dragon!
Also! That’s something new with LD’s voice! Primordials used to just have a blur behind their words, and now it’s a lot more defined.
you can tell it’s intentional since the last time we heard LD talk was the interlude just a few months ago. perhaps she’s more concentrated/focused?
Maybe physically speaking through Michael’s mouth, as well as doing a Magic Voice Thing. We could compare VD talking through Erin…
Now that we’ve got a paladin here, I hope they’ll talk and Falst will lead to a confirmation of my theory: that the Ferin were made by the Light Dragon to block off the chance of a human elemental mage freeing the Void Dragon.
Wait hold on that makes sense
That… that would also explain how ferin are able to use only light magic. “Even the most high-minded academic mages shrink from the thought of a future where no mages exist.” this is a sentence from the extra lore section on ferin. This could have been the reason for their transferable and dominant curse to new generation, to rid the world of tools for the void to one day use. I had simply written the wandering mage off as being the collector fucking around but the mage IMPLICITELY traveled the world to spread this curse as far as possible.
wow that really changes some things if paladins were willing to curse and mutate living people just so that the Dragon couldn’t have the slightest chance to escape
It adds up though. And it’s an ingenious way to go about it, even if the morals are VERY sketchy. It’s basically eugenics.
Where’s the actual evidence?
[REDACTED]
Ah yes! This is my theory too! The Ferin mage definitely had something to make their alterations stick, at first I thought it was a connection to void but now I’m thinking it was a rouge Paladin who combined their Paladin powers with Life magic to make chimerical alterations that persisted.
Ferin will never wholly replace mages; some fringe groups and species like Ignans, Cloud elves, sea peoples, etc, will keep living and breeding amongst themselves. But one thing they may end up getting rid of are elemental maguses (magi?), since they can only be born in unaltered humans and that seems to also be the group Ferin are most likely to breed with. If the Ferin mage was a Paladin, they may have though that this could be a slow but steady way or removing, or at least lowering the rate of, Elemental Maguses and eventually cutting off V.D.’s escape entirely.
Still, even if the theory is true, and that’s a big if, there’s no guarantee the Paladin champion even knows about it. For all we know it was done by a single rouge Paladin in secret that the organisation had no knowledge of, or only a select few know of and it’s a closely guarded secret.
Even if the Champion knows, I don’t think he’d tell anyone. As @veggiesnake said, it’s forced eugenics on a worldwide population in the name of “the greater good” that also spawned generations of xenophobia, discrimination, and all manner of isolated sufferings. If news got out that a Paladin, under orders or acting alone, did that, the organisation could be ruined.
Howdy, chiming in to the convo.
Life magic’s hypothesized higher properties were only unlocked when Life’s truename was first invoked by the Collector some 300 years ago. The Ferin Mage lived and died some 700 years before that. Life magic at that time was just limited to bending-esque magic, just like the other elemental magics prior to the First Invocation of their respective Primordial’s truename.
The idea that the Paladins were somehow involved is something I’ve considered, but right now all we have is speculation. My personal theory however, is that the Ferin Mage was never a mage to begin with, but rather an Emissary of the Twins. Their domain of creating new life seems to fit with the achievement of creating a whole new species that can breed true. And, given that Emissary status and elemental magic are mutually exclusive, I’m of the mind that the Ferin Mage wasn’t a Paladin themself.
@Mat Ooh, that is an interesting thought. The mysteries of the Twins, who they are, how they came about, etc, are very much up in the air, as are their exact motivations beyond making creatures as a form of art. A mortal could be an emissary of the twins, maybe even without the Twins themselves realising, and had access to some of their powers.
However, a caveat to all this is that the twins are about creating life, not modifying it. I’m even going through the tumblr and I see posts talking about them unwilling or unable to modify their own creations. If they had an emissary, they could force some control over them, and I don’t think they’d want them to make the Ferin by modifying existing people.
An alternative possibility, however, is Lyssandra, goddess of evolution, adaptation, and survival. Her dominion fits more in line with what the Ferin mage did to their victims; an emissary of her could have similar powers to change others into Ferin.
I hope thats not true
uhh.. hiii bud
please dont uh
please dont attack him he’s trying his best
cool wings btw ok thanks bye
I actually kind of expect him to be fairly cordial, approaching Erin as a victim of the Dark Dragon. More paternalistic than immediately hostile.
Kept you waiting, huh?
lmao that’s a *mean* cliffhanger for “a few weeks”
hope you have a nice break!
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD MICHAEL!!!! CHAMPION!! Text shape means Light Dragon’s speaking and we get another “Finally.” OH BOY
I have been thinking about this conversation/ confrontation for ages and Of course it happens in a bad time for the group Erin’s not doing great Kendal’s recovering from being stabbed Falst is also recovering Alinua can’t grow plants quickly at the moment Dainix isn’t doing well Tess is having emotions and AHHHHHH
more thoughts later I need to pace in a circle for a few minutes
Have a good break, Red!
Superhero landing… SUPERHERO LANDING!
Oh, he looks marvelous. It’s been four long years since we last saw him, and Red’s art was never hard to look at, but he looks SO GOOD NOW. Look at those wings, that hair! It should be said more often that Red has made leaps and strides while drawing this comic, and I’m more than happy to wait a few more weeks for this confrontation.
That said, there are two ways this can go: The Lady can recognise that Erin isn’t the Void Dragon (he’s just an innocent puppet) and try to negotiate OR (more likely) The Champion’s aggression might cue Tess and Kendal intervene, resulting in a long-term conflict between these two groups. We might even get both at once.
For reference, we first and last saw the Champion in 1-7-31 (https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-7-31/).
It was actually 1-7-33 when we last saw him. https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-7-33/
Well, yes. I know. But it’s the same sequence. It’s not like 1-7-33 was a different story beat to 1-7-32 or 1-7-31.
I KNEW I would get this EXACT reply for someone.
SHE SAID THE THING AAAAAAAAAAA
another glowy light effect has entered the arena!
UH OH SOMEBODY TACKLE HIM
Ffffuuuuuuu that is EPIC!
Fantastic <3
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
There once was a champion of Light
Who had searched far and wide, day and night,
To find that one boy
In the Dark’s employ–
Now he’s arrived and ready for a fight.
This page is absolutely sick Red!!!/pos
Hope you enjoy your break and I’ll be eagerly waiting for chapter 3!
TL;DR: Found
That’s too ominous for a tl;dr message good job
LET’S F***ING GOOOOOO
eyyyyy
You win the best comment award. Oh, the bittersweet irony of this being a multi-week cliffhanger!
So why is everyone calling the dragon “Walter” and the light paladin guy “Michael”
The name Michael comes from the obvious resemblance to the arch angel Michael in Christian religion
The name Walter comes from the early days of the comics when people didn’t entirely know what the thing possessing Erin was, and so named it an extremely ordinary name for comedic effect and to make it seem less scary.
I heard it first came a reddit poll
So, considering that the light dragon is the void’s equal and opposite in every way . . . are some rad void dragon wings in Erin’s future?
I think they have different powersets, but maybe flesh goo wings like what that glort was made of
Thanks, I hate it.
Also, don’t the words of a cult member at face value
I finished the page and literally stood up shouting, “I knew it! I freaking KNEW it was him!”
…
Erin didn’t say which dragon he was trying to stop in the last page…
That’ll be difficult to explain.
I mean… he could technically be talking about both of them… he doesn’t know he needs saving from the Light Dragon yet but…
Oooooooooh nice spoken parallels to the very villain you’re fighting there buddy.
(giving an awed slow clap to Red on that one, for giving VD and this guy the same first line (post prologue i mean. Damn that’s good.)
okay I worded that badly, I meant first line when they each respectively met Erin for the first time
)
bout time mate its been like 2 years
Four years. It’s been four years. And another month and a half, apparently
Not to interrupt, but you’re really supposed to ask permission before boarding a boat. No? Okay, be that way then.
Haha. Everyone’s in danger 🙂
There are three things all wise man fear. A knight with no moon, a storm at sea, and the anger of a gentle man.
Erin is currently facing to of them. This world has two moons. So, either one of them is destroyed, both of them are obscured, or I will be very disappointed.
THERE HE IS THERE HE IS THERE HE ISSSSSSSSSSSSSS *high pitched screaming (at 5 am*
HERE COMES A SPECIAL BOY HERE COMES A SPECIAL BOY HERE COMES A SPECIAL BOY
i just reread the first arc and got to the interlude for the second arc and Septrenn may just be the name of The Champion honestly, cause Stefan called for this mysterious Septrenn and whoop here is the champion, so yeah its just a kinda logical conclusion
I think it was made clear the septrenn and the champion are separate
Really? Where? It would make sense for Septrenn to be the Champion but… hmmm, actually, Sept means Seven right? And there are seven parts of the Dragon that Paladins are named after right? Horns, Wings, Eyes, Claws, uhhh… Scales? idk what are other ones…?
BUT Anyways what if that leader guy(Did we learn his name?) was calling for like a meeting of all seven of them? That would make a lot of sense. *Tada*
If this has been said somewhere like on Tumblr or smth sorry I don’t use that so
I think the champion is in a special category of his own
I should start doing questions again ngl
Do what you want but I personally would love that
That would be a nice way to encourage conversation and engagement, especially while the comic is on break, so I would also like that if you feel like it!
Oh shit
How do you change the profile picture?
The link at the bottom of the page that says “Get a Gravatar” will lead you to a site where you can, well, get a Gravatar, which will display as your pfp here.
Wait I’m confused everyone else seems to know who this is but I honestly have no idea what I’m looking at…
Have a look at this: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-7-32/
It’s been a while since we last and first saw this guy
Oh man, I’ve just thought of something.
Dainix was the first one to spot the Champion, and now probably has a good view of him. Even if he’s not part of the (assumed) fight that’s about to happen, he can see the colour and brightness of his magic. A few days back a bright flash of white light saved him and Falst in the dungeon, and Dainix theorises it came from Falst. Dainix is very good at recognising patterns.
Ergo, I think there’s a decent chance he’ll see the Champion’s abilities, remember the magic in the dungeon, and put two and two together.
Ooooh, I think you might be onto something! Can’t wait to see the difference between last time they talked about it and this time, considering the tensions that are between them now…
Not sure if anyone will see this but FYI, I’m on holiday tomorrow for two weeks and not bringing my laptop. I’ll keep up with the comic resumes on my phone, but every chance I won’t comment. Just in case anyone wonders where I am.
Don’t worry, some people will see it. Additionally, Have a good holiday and enjoy your time!
I was just looking at the pages leading up to the storm and I saw Kendal being woken from his nap by the ghosts of the citizens of Vash and they simply say ‘She is coming’. Now I thought the ‘she’ they were referring to was the Collector but what if it’s the Light dragon, do the people of Vash know the Light dragon may endanger Kendal and his companions, or was that not a warning but more a sign that help is coming and they think the Light dragon will aid them, or were they referring to the Collector and I’m just thinking to much into this.
Why would they know about the light dragon?
I guess I was just assuming the ghosts were omniscient and didn’t ask myself how they knew anything in the first place. Now that the questions raised though does this mean that the ghosts can communicate with Vash?
They are.inside Vash’s soul so maybe sensing whats happening around it is one of their ghost powers
Yeah, I think it was the Collector they were talking about, it would make more sense than the Light Dragon as 1. the Collector knows about Kendal now (and probably tortured the information on where they were headed out of Vash), and 2. Why would the ghosts know/care about the Light Dragon? It doesn’t seem like Vash has had any interaction with the Paladins, and the Collector is a more pressing issue (to them) than the Light Dragon.
I’m guessing they’ll meet the Collector when they stop on the volcano island. And then have to run for their lives. Of course, if Kendal gets pushed overboard with Dainix… As has been foreshadowed like this entire arc… then we could have a Collector-Alinua chat which I personally am very excited for
I think your right about the first two points you made so thanks for giving your insight about that.
Building on your thought on were the Collector might be and your point about falling overboard I think she may be on the bottom of the ocean. As interesting as an Alinua Collector confrontation will be and I’m sure will see one eventually, if the collector shows up I’m expecting a sort of above and below situation where Kendal and Dainix are underwater and everyone else is above either on the boat or on the island. I don’t think the Collector can drown and its been established that soul-fire can burn underwater so I don’t think Dainix can drown either and just before this whole voyage Tess theorized that Kendal might not drown so I’ve been waiting for that to be seen.
I opened this on my new laptop for the first time and I can finally appreciate the QUALITY of the comic. serioisly, I never got how gorgeous this comic is before today.
He’s cool
This is so satisfying. At first I thought you were playing with us, that it would turn out to be something totally different — a rescue or a new unforeseen threat.
And then it really was Michael, the wings of the Light dragon.
It’s so interesting how the Light dragon doesn’t choose one avatar but multiple ones. Her wings, her eyes…
…her claws.
It’s not a complete parallel.
The timing of Michael’s arrival is such that I think a) this is the best of their enemies to have caught up with them, and b) his arrival will somehow resolve the problem they currently face.
So, Erin. Meltdown over for now, okay? Okay.
I’m so excited for the next arc!
Sameee, been counting down the Days
tommorrow!!!
No wait two days
I’m really excited, I wonder what the chapter name will be! I kind of want it to stick with the theme so far; “Ripples”, “Waves”, and now “Storms”.
I’ve been rereading the comic, and I actually counted the days so I could read one chapter a day and finish tommorrow.
Now it’s tomorrow!
Aw man!
D:
Ohhhhh, so *this* is how the ship’s going to get trashed
FYI: Red said on tumblr that “Story resumes in September” doesn’t mean “the first monday in September” (today), and instead just “at some point in September”.
In other words: Patience, my young Padawans
finally an excuse to use my time machine
*incoherent screaming and thrashing*
All the better so she can take as much time as she needs
stop it with your logic and empathy i need more comicaurora.com
*Sobbing and screaming and crying* fiiiiiine, I *guess* I can wait for a *while*
I am too impatient to be reading a current webcomic
At present “sometime in September” is all I got. I wanted to finish the chapter storyboards before I started finalizing and scheduling pages, and for reasons I’m still working out, I didn’t wrap that up until three days ago.
I’m hoping to work ahead, get a good slice of the chapter finalized before I start uploading pages, storyboard the start of chapter 4, etc, but right now I’m sort of still recovering from how crazy long it took me to get through the events of chapter 3. Densest bushwacking I’ve had to do yet. I actually drew up a behind-the-scenes comic about part of that process that I can’t post yet because it is radioactive with spoilers, but I think you guys’ll get a kick out of it when I can finally show it.
Is that Red? I’m glad you’re okay. We’re all eagerly looking forward to literally everything.
The text posted by Anon is a direct copy of part of a Tumblr post by Red. As such, the person posting it could be Red, or could be someone else who just wanted to inform everybody who doesn’t check Red’s Tumblr (shrugs)
Also, if you were worried if Red was okay, she has been posting on her Tumblr and seems fine
A new foe has appeared…
I thought, “Oh, Red, a bossfight? So soon after Tynan? You’re spoiling us…” until I realized that the Tynan fight was posted mid-2022. Wow. Felt like last week.
From my perspective, two things could happen here.
a) The Champion joins the party. They make their way to the soulshaper monks with some extra firepower, possibly.
b) They fight and it sets the Floof Squad back like two weeks to a month of canon time.
I’m more in favor of option B, since (as someone above has already pointed out) it’d be a great opportunity to split the Floof Squad up. Though, I’m not sure how Tess or Dainix would get ashore—frankly, how anyone would get ashore, given how little water we’ve seen so far throughout this comic. The most we’ve seen was Falst and Tess fighting against the borrower wyrm, and that was a very shallow (presumably) freshwater lake that they sat in for like five minutes at most. Does Tess need to breathe?
Someone also pointed out at some point that if Kendal’s bones are made of/infused with Starmetal, that probably does not help his swimming capabilities. So…that’s three of six that would have some trouble…
I honestly have no idea where this is going to go. It would make sense to have the Champion join them, but also I think their party is big enough, and it seems about time for them to have another opponent.
I think they might ally with him down the line, but certainly not next chapter, and maybe not even this arc.
The 7th party member will be a woman
I agree; I feel like the ideal party size for a comic like this is 4-6. I also think that it’d be odd to expand the party more even after Act I. I’d guess a temporary alliance at most to get rid of VD and then they have nothing to do with each other.
He doesn’t have to join or fight
Yes but him leaving would be boriiiiing and I really don’t see other options.

I really need to work on my patience…

Hello to everyone here on Sep 9th, how are we doing?
aaaaaughghghghgh
life is rough rn. Aurora is usually something to look forward to on Mondays, waiting has been hard 🙁
Im sorry to hear that, I hope things get better for you soon
Emerging from my cave is an excellent username and I fully support it.
This cliffhanger is hanging a lot longer. Red, ma’am, dear author, you can’t do this to us. Where are they?!
How is everyone doing on this fine 9/11 day? (o7 to the people who died but they’re not part of this conversation)
I’m doing alright. Hadn’t slept well, but it turned out to be a good day for me overall. How are you?
Pretty good actually. Homework is a pain, but other than that I’m just kinda vibing.
We had a community service day at school on 9/11, I helped build planter boxes 😀
Oh that’s actually pretty cool. My school just did the normal minute of silence thing. One person in my class was apparently not paying attention, bc she looked up and went “Why did it get so quiet?” Followed by giggles from everyone and dirty looks.
Waitiiiing, Red when you post Aurora we’ll be waitiiiing, even if it’s the last thing we see we’ll be waitiiiing, waiiitiiing
Noooooo
I appreciate the reference but that hurts
*Intense musical-induced madness*

This comic’s amazing when you greet it with open arms
(Blue…)
Whatever we face, we’ll be fine if we’re reading from the heart
No matter the place, we can light up the world, here’s how to start:
Read each page with open arms, read each page with open arms…
Blue…
Waiting…
That voice… it can’t be…
Waiting…
…Cleo?

Oh Red, when you post the next page, I’ll be waiting…
Even if it’s the last thing I see, I’ll be waiting…
(I’m right here, girl, can’t you see? I’m waiting…)
Waiting…
I took too long…
(I’ll always love you)
And delayed it too far

THIS IS A MASTERPIECE
Thanks! 😀 I try my best
*Cheers for this masterpiece*
I haven’t listened to all of Epic!, so can you perhaps supply the original song? Please? For a poor, starving lass?
The original song is The Underworld- in the underworld saga. 🙂
And it’s been four long years, OH, four long years since we have seen Michael… and now the God of Light, is out for Erin’s life, so we beg you Mikey, grant him mercy, and let this puppet leaveee
yeah!
Finally caught up, Erins throwing a tantrum and the champion has arrived!
Welcome to the fandom! Hope you enjoy your time here!
I’ve been here a while actually!
Just stopped keeping up to date with this last chapter or two for a bit
Hypothetically if light is the element of souls, Michael could possibly manipulate souls the way that Erin could manipulate void corruption. The Collector would be especially interested in this ability.
How do you add a profile pic here?
Click on the “Get a Gravatar” link next to the EMAIL field and do what the instructions say from there.
Aaand I’m caught up again, after taking a break from reading Aurora. And damn, this is going to be fun
Welcome back!
Will be 1 month exactly since the break tomorrow. I hope we get it back.
Patience is a virtue
You have no idea how many times I’ve said that to people before XD
It may be a virtue but I’ve never considered myself extra virtuous
gimme gimme gimme
(Brendan Fraser voice) Not right now it isn’t
My immediate thought is this paladin is going to be either a major rival or take over the missing “leader” role of the group somehow
Michael as a leader would be pretty interesting. The question is whether the Trust Issue Twins™ (Erin and Falst) would agree to follow him.
Honestly, this group needs someone new to be a leader. Dainix is a good right hand, but I don’t know if he can really take command.
