As we saw with Vash, the city they control has the same name as the god. The academy is probably in the city, giving Asera authority over it.

One more thing: Erin’s family must be stupid rich, what with Galen being an emissary and Erin being The Elemental F***ing Magus… it might help explain his arrogance and general better-than-you attitude
Not necessarily rich, but given those reasons we can definitely assume Aurora-world middle class and potentially up. I’d be willing to imagine that a lot of his arrogance stems from an (admittedly noteworthy and not unfounded) reason. He is the elemental magus, and he would appear to be decently good at it. Given the task we see him first undertaking, you can certainly imagine him being well respected amongst the more academic side of magic and politics, and it would probably be a not underadvatised fact that the elemental magus had been reborn and was living in the city of Asera. Long story short, the majority of us would gain some sort of subconscious feeling of superiority to most people if we had that life.

While Kendal sometimes does things that are not sensible, Erin tends to say things that are insensitive. They balance each other out, kind of.

Erin is that kind of arrogant jerk that you can’t help but love anyway. He reminds me a bit of Kaiba (…except for the “being heck-bent obsessed with defeating his rival and also being a millionaire part, so maybe he’s not really like Kaiba).
Personally, I’m a bit torn between liking him for his sheer intelligence and disliking him for his sheer selfishness and insensitivity (which is probably how a lot of the other characters feel about him)
Erin is the type of person who corrects people’s spelling on the internet and flips test pages loudly so everyone will know he finished first

Ooh, I just thought of something: technically, all mages have a link to gods as well, seeing as how the primordial elements are the lingering souls of extremely powerful deities
Matter can be made from energy however, and mages can draw a form of energy out of their surroundings. Although it does seem like Alinua usually starts with a smaller life form, like a seed in the case of plants, nothing is “sacrificed” except some of the surrounding Life Primordial soul and life element.
I expect this is a reply to my Equivalent Exchange comment; I could’ve worded it better if I wasn’t also trying to make a reference. What I meant is that life mages can’t summon flesh or plant matter from thin air, there needs to already be matter present for them to work with.
