I understand that this guy is well experienced in magic, probably has a decent idea of what he’s thinking of doing, and is yet to meet Alinua so he might start learning to gain control, but you (at least I) can really feel the arrogance in his “I don’t NEED help”.
Seems like a chat with Alinua is in order… She did gain control of a wild, dangerous magic.
Also, I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or not, but if you go back and look at the pages where Alinua and Kendal first met, when he’s recounting the Chimeric plague in Vash, when we see poor Iras, his mutated-now-tree body looks oddly feminine, and the being that seems to be channeled through the Chimeric mark is herself female… And also, Elves are not typically life mages are they? Perhaps Alinua was the first ‘compatible’ host, being both female and without any prexisting earth affinity, therefore counteracting the over abundance of life energy… Just a theory, but curious.
That’s an interesting theory you’ve got there. However, I would point out that if the chimeric plague is a phenomenon that’s been ongoing for years, then it’s statistically likely that 50% of the carriers will have been female. Also bear in mind that if this has been going on since the downfall of the ancients (which is what the last few pages seem to suggest), then bear in mind that it’s also not statistically unlikely for past carriers to have been female wind elves (I’m pretty sure Alinua’s a wind elf). If we assume that the life primordial (who I think is the being with ten eyes we have seen) is the one responsible for carriers being born, then they would have certainly picked their carriers wisely and gone for only beings who they know will be able to realistically carry the plague (no underwater humans are likely). As far as I can tell, probably the only reason Alinua was the first to survive the transformation into the life magic avatar (or something like that) was because she found out what it was early on and took severe measures to keep her magic under control (intense meditation we see early on that Kendall interrupted). None of us know much about Alinua’s backstory beyond what’s been given to us, but if she ran away into the forest to protect herself, her family, and her neighbours at a young age, then she must have had some sort of access to information from which she discovered what the chimeric plague was (maybe a public village library of sorts assuming her statement of growing up in a very rural area wasn’t a complete lie). Also bear in mind that many small populations that don’t know the warning signs will end up with a chimeric plague incident if they get one. Last point, most carriers don’t survive past age of five to six. This means that several carriers will be born all over in one average human’s lifetime (makes me wonder if other races also have similar lifetimes). I think pretty much the only reason Alinua survived to young adulthood (assuming wind elves age similarly to humans; I have to say she doesn’t look much older than late teens at most) is a combination of good sense on what to do and luck that she could find out what she was. Thoughts?
The Mocking Dragon, fair points, though given that this has been going on for centuries, it does seem awfully coincidental. This could be simply because Red chose to do so for dramatic reasons… Though it would be interesting if the current set of coincidences were actually related.
Here’s another off-the-wall theory, Kendal said that the previous Elemental was female, and dies several hundred years ago, what if she didn’t die but inadvertently discovered the ‘7th element’ from spending time in the singing caves, and that she has become the ‘collector’?
I came to the same thought a few days ago and posted it in page 2 of chapter 6, when Kendal mentioned the previous magus, though minus her controlling the seventh element; it works though, the seventh element is said to be related to consumption in some way, and she’s basically consuming souls in a metaphorical sense by collecting them. Perhaps her knife is infused with magic related to the seventh element…
I would be interested to know if there was some sort of pattern to the chimeric plague, like how the avatar switches between peoples every incarnation. The only thing is that if this was going for centuries, then it would stand to reason that some sort of scientific organisation would catch on, unless they were simply unaware of some people having ever been carriers. I don’t know.
In regards to your second theory, I have randomly thought of that in the past, but clearly forgot about it. Nonetheless, it would make a decent bit of sense, because it hypothetically explains her being able to use more than one element (although I think it is possible for people to wield more than one element, like two or three). I’m certainly tempted to believe that the seventh element is something she discovered and the source of her immortality (as mentioned by the smart person above), but whether or not she’s the previous elemental magus is up for debate as I don’t think she uses all elements in her few scenes so far.
Erin: Help? Do you happen to have experience dealing with people with untold magical powers that could go haywire and annihilate everything around them?
Kendal: Yes. Yes I do.
Alinua: (spontaneously appears) And I’m the recipient of his care. I’d give him four stars.
Continuation of TL:DR: Possessed Floof also doesn’t need help, and angsts about it. Sword Floof skips the angst to get right to the questions, since, there’s like, higher priorities on their to-do list then being a therapist.
yes, the legendary, the great evil form trope I love this trope and it’s great to see it I’m hoping it ain’t fixed like how Alinua had a really cool system of when you heal your risk of death but then lost that almost immediately
Kendal knows, like, four people, and two of them have basically identical “If I lose control of my magic everyone around me will die” angst. He thinks that’s just normal.
First time reading through. Prediction: The collector will try to collect the black ick that’s in this feller and then it’ll lead to their mutual destruction
what’s hilarious to me is how Kendal just glosses over all the angst.
Is she the tree red??
Because I kinda feel like Alinua is hibernating in the tree or something
She is in the tree, making tea. https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-2-3/
Makes me wonder if incredibly skilled life mages are capable of shapeshifting
She’s in the tree sipping tea as she can see from up on the tree all the tea, wippy!
The first question is “Can i go to the bathroom?”
No, next question.
17/10
can i just say im so happy the Floof has returned
“I have two questions”
“No Kendal, mayonnaise is not an instrument.”
“…”
“Neither is horse radish.”
“I have zero questions”
1) Is the brooding, self-serving angstiness a requirement?
2) Do you accept the power of friendship as a potential cure? “No” is not an answer.
look man, you can’t do the assignment in one night, you’ll burn out.
Erin just straight-up verbally decked Kendal in the first panel there
Just think of all the story possibilities! Banter, bonding, being forced to fight your mind controlled buddy, it just goes on and on.
ANGST! Can’t forget about angst.
…Teaching each other about history, taking part in daring escapes, inadvertently destroying entire civilizations, making s’mores…
This will be like dealing with Aliuna pre-power boost. But worse!
Alinua’s totally up in the tree going, “Would you two shut up? I’m trying to sleep.”
Erin: I’m a walking magical disaster that could kill you at any moment if you stay near me
Kendal: Oh I dealt with one of those last week
Alinua: Hi
I’m looking forward to Erin’s reaction to meeting Alinua and finding out about her. I expect Red will make that fairly comical.
Wow, I wonder if they’ll banter for the entire series, and never resolve it, and make me wanna die.
Oh wait, Alinua and Erin will do that
*scoldy voice* Red, you’re their writer. If you can’t keep track of your own damn characters, then you’re unfit to be an author.
YES. WHERE THE DANG IS SHE?????

Did Alinua also take Kendal the sword?

She looks more like she’s in her early twenties to me
Alinua is a cloud elf, not a wind elf.
Now that I look at the lore page again, you would appear to be correct. But my point still stands.
My guess is they’ll keep Erin under control with Alinua’s power. Infinite hunger is easily countered by infinite sour grapes. =P
If there’s one thing I love more than angst, it’s wholesome paragon hero’s completely ignoring angst

Crap that’s a really good theory plus it explains how she control stone

i thought it was kinda funny

Time to angst about his horrendous state
But he doesn’t need help! Solitude is his fate
