Oh, is he taking over Tynan?
Also, that settles what Void’s plan is – nothing, he’s just mad at Tynan.
Also also, I love Falst’s “That’s not Erin”, so fabulously creepy.
Tynan: I DIDN’T STEAL IT! YOUR PATENT FOR IT EXPIRED THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO!
Yeah, let’s NOT unleash soulfire on the possessed Erin as he attacks Tynan and while Alinua is nearby. Though maybe keep that option open for later in case V.D. outstays his … “welcome”.
I find it very concerning if V.D. can just hold out his hand and consume people with void magic at range ala Darth Vader force choke. Though maybe he can only do it to those assuming a dragon form?
Looking on the bright side, it seems Tynan’s incarnation is heavily damaged and about to crash, putting him in range of Dainix (and potentially V.D. switching to fire magic). Still, despite being grounded Tynan will still be dangerous and, whether he knows exactly what’s happening to him or not, has probably singled out Erin as his No. 1 threat.
Is VD going to use this as evidence against Erin later to try get him to utilise his power later, like as in “Look how strong it is, you can even use it to protect your friends as you failed to do so with your own power,” etc? Because when Erin and VD first talked I recall him mentioning Erin potentially becoming a ‘Void Mage’. So cool. I’ve been waiting what seems like forever for VD to return.
Anyways, this chapter looks so damn cool – I can’t wait for the next!
There once was a dragon of void
Who was mad with how Tynan employed
His patented form.
And his vessel was torn!
“Cease Existence” has now been deployed.
Happy fourth of July! I can’t tell if just letting VD take out Tynan is too convenient enough. This battle has been going on for so long that I can’t trust any solution. Especially not VD. Something is going to go badly, I just know it.
Ooo aside from the obvious coolness from panel 7, look at panel 3, that cloak is hanging on by a thread, and also looks kind of like dragon wings, which might be a coincidence, but is neat nonetheless.
Anyway props to everyone within the last few pages who anticipated VD absolutely destroying Tynan for imitating his form.
Also to Called by Magic: the last line of your poem made me laugh my head off, good job. 😀
Skystrike:
I think Kendal hadn’t jumped off yet because he has to pull his sword free. Wouldn’t be good if it got damaged, especially if the theory with Kendal the man and Kendal the sword sharing a soul turned out right.
I absolutely adore that Kendal’s speech bubble is just “!”. like yep, the most succinct possible representation of how Kendal is reacting to THAT
methinks this continues to support the theory that Void’s powerset is corruption and deterioration and hunger and such. walter is physically SHATTERING tynan holy Shit. and also that Erin is in for a bad time but is looking really cool doing it.
@LilacSpiral the dragon-wings-cape is SUCH a cool detail! not to read TOO too far into it but yknow, he *did* have a conveniently placed purple cloak for Artful Dishevelment™
Happy Fourth to those who celebrate it, and I must say that this is probably one of my favorite comment sections so far. Especially Eidolon’s comment–I don’t know how the page blurb comment for Google is selected, but I really hope that theirs is the one for today.
I also love how Erin’s tattered cloak gives the impression of tattered wings and an almost thoughtful half-curled tail. It’s the little details like that are awesome–thougg to be fair, this page has so many gorgeously done moments in it (like Dainix and Falst’s exchange).
To Skystrike: I don’t think he did, though I’m not sure it was because he thought he could survive both the void and the impact (though considering his potential state of mind right now, who knows). Part of it is, I think, that his sword is still jammed in Tynan’s eye, and part of it is that he’s really not got any other way to get safely down–Tess, if I remember correctly, could basically lightning-step back to the ground, but aside from the demigod thing Kendal’s pretty much a vanilla human as far as abilities go, especially since he can’t really do much with starfire right now (both as far as channeling it and how long he can channel it without exhausting himself–which also brings up another point, he might just be too tired right now to guarantee he’d be able to land without breaking his neck if he did let go).
There was something else I was going to mention, but it seems I’ve forgotten it … Ah, well I’ll post it if I remember.
So I was going to do a holiday-thrmed QOTD today, but as I don’t know if everyone celebrates it I’m going to instead do one holiday-themed and one standard question. Consider this a test format for the larger holidays coming up–you can answer either, or both if you would like.
Question(s) of the Day:
1. If invited to a barbeque and asked to bring the fireworks, what would each member of the Floof Squad contribute? (You can get as specific as you want with this–a description of the effect is fine)
2. If you were a magic-user in Aurora, which element would you channel?
“My precious vessel-”
Oh no.
As a Lord of the Rings fan, the word precious cannot be spoken in my prescence without me getting chills. It is one of the creepiest words.
This is cool, but I’m kinda worried that Chekhov is shooting blanks right now… We had this buildup with Dainix, being an uber-OP fire elemental and fire being the weakness of Storm, giving him an opportunity to shine (or rather BURN) bright, and Void is gonna steal (and kill) his thunder (god)
Void is PISSED, holy crap. Tynan, I would run if I was you. And I think I’ve been saying this for the last couple panels, but gosh, the artwork is just so gorgeous (and terrifying).
All right so we have three Almost-Dragons here. A storm-god using a dragon shaped avatar made out of what I can only assume is mostly rain. A Dragon-god walking around in the body of a Totally Normal Dude who is almost completely human shaped. And another, unrelated Totally Normal Dude who just happens to breathe fire (which counts for something in my book).
I love Falst and Dainix’s interactions here. I especially like how worried Falst is in panel two. You can see in his face that he’s realizing what’s going on, and just how bad it is, and wondering how screwed they are, but at the same time he’s still as protective as always holding back Dainix after shoving him out of the way (both with a broken arm I might add)
@skye
Kendal: A fire extinguisher
Aliuna: A whole bunch of green normal ones, to join in the fun
Erin : The magic equivalent of a holographic drone show, moving images and all.
Falst: Didn’t want to come but was forced by the rest. Scared of fire crackers.
Dainix: I imagine Ignan fireworks would be very impressive, probably the unexpected highlight.
it has occurred to me that his is falst’s first time seeing erin get possessed, and he is probably freaking out. i mean, not that i am in a position to know how falst’s brain works, but falst has spent most of his life so far as a social outcast living in the wilderness, then comes along a group that he joins and more or less adopts as older siblings, and even though he knows about the whole ‘erin occasionally gets possessed by a dark primordal dragon’ situation, that doesn’t mean that this event is any less disturbing to him. hopefully tahraim willstick around for a bit to give some therapy, as almost certainly everyone will be having a mental breakdown for one reason or another.
on a unrelated note, never have i more related to kendal’s ‘other people make me sad/mad(smad?) because they assume that i’m like them because i look like them’ dealio. yesterday i had to talk to church people (probably because i’ve been doing a lot of skipping church and church related activities for about a month or so), and at one point i said that i was antisocial, and from the way they reacted it’s clear that they either thought i meant socially anxious or do not know the difference between antisocial and socially anxious. which sucks and also made me realize why someone choose the word “unassuming” to describe me earlier this year. people assume i’m socially anxious and then are surprised when i do something with little trouble that a social anxious person would have a heart attack if you asked them to do it, like giving a presentation in class or having a conversation with someone i don’t know very well. it’s annoying and i hate it and i honestly didn’t mean for this rant to be this long but whatever.
Haha, oh Walter… you’re gonna be REAL upset when the white dragon of the Paladins shows up!
Have fun with that!
*Disappears in a puff of smoke, as agents of chaos are wont to do*
Sky: for QOTD #1: I think Erin would bring something like the dragon firework gandolf brought to baggins’ 100th birthday. Alinua would bring sparklers for both kids and adults alike. I want to say someone made a joke about falst getting scared of the explosions, so in order to prove a point gets those fizzely streamer fireworks ’cause they’re like tinsel and aren’t too loud. And I have no idea about the rest of the floof squad.
As for QOTD #2: maybe an iron cast who hasn’t been chosen by the sky or a stone mage?
I am simultaneously loving Voidy & everything he is doing on this page – while terrified that he is going to lose control – and just absolutely in AWE of your artwork on this, Red!
Also, at this point I can see a real moral dilemma occurring. As long as Walter keeps a firm control over his powers, protects Erin & stands down after the threat that Tynan represents is taken care of – I can really REALLY see him manipulating Erin & the group.
Voidy can claim that his sentience is young & that he made mistakes. Showing evidence, even if it is based in sheer falsehood & manipulation, that he has learned from his prior mistakes AND wants to help them could put a spike in the ‘contain/destroy/banish’ the Void Dragon subquest.
Focusing on how he could be a useful asset to the Floof Squad & help Kendal with his quest could get them to make the mistake of trusting him. That he might lie now & come to a change of heart later would also be epic.
Your plot is hurting my brain, Red – and I love it!
Falst: dynamite
Alinua: asks Kendal what a firework is
Kendel & Alinua: buy some work and set it on fire
Dainix: decides it’s stupid and goes to work out
Erin: laughs at all of the above and showed them how it’s REALLY done.
@Jaq I really don’t see VD Walter stooping to manipulating the party. Erin, maybe, for reasons of pure practicality — he needs Erin to cooperate if he wants to achieve his goals. Even so, I don’t see him presenting himself as anything other than the greatest of all possible evils. Besides, he made it pretty clear he’s acting in *his* interests, not the Floof Squad’s.
I suppose that’s the advantage of having an BBEG that hates everything besides itself – if you can’t destroy it, you can at least point it at the other evil things in the world and hope for the best.
I desperately hope that Void Dragon will, not quite get a Redemption arc in the traditional sense but get chilled out with the team and lowkey attached to Erin and stop really caring about freedom, he still wants it but he’s patient and humans have a long enough lifespan to wait for Erin.
I think it would be so fun, if he could interact with the fluff squad causally and at some point becomes basically a full protagonist with an evil aesthetic without noticing, like clearly keeping Erin safe and helping with his friends goals is only for my own gains.
He hasn’t actually killed anyone yet(other than maybe the primordials kinda its complicated) so he’s technically cause less damage than the collector, its not infeasible or glossing over anything
This is masterful. Erin doesn’t look like Erin, he’s positively baleful. And Tynan’s seemingly successful F* You dragon form is now undoing. And how much do I love that the VD is enraged that his vessel is damaged?
No matter how much Tynan postured, he was never truly scary. Too self-satisfied and gleeful in his power to be scary. The Void Dragon makes me shiver, he’s so oily, calm, manipulative, and then there’s this whip crack of an unpredictable mood swing from “How interesting” to “HOW DARE YOU!”
And there’s Tynan’s “WHA-?” Never in his wildest dreams did he expect to encounter the only Void Mage that’s existed… for millennia? Ever? I think ever, unless you count the Void Dragon himself as a mage.
To paraphrase Tynan from a few weeks back, “You still don’t understand.” He hasn’t even met Life yet.
Maybe Tynan could get a reprieve and be allowed to live, if She and the Paladins get involved.
@Skye
If I could channel any element in aurora, I think I’ll say fire. I’m so highly variable and all over the place as a person, and my strengths are inconsistent, so I have to say no to stone. That’s the only hard no I have, plus I’m not sure personality traits decide your elemental affinity. I just think Fire is very cool, and I’m pretty sure Red is creative enough to come up with stuff you can do with fire other than just making a fire and spreading it.
I like fire for a multitude of reasons. It fits my philosophy of growth, I always use fire symbolism to represent the core of my personality. When I come out of depressive episodes, or workout, I get into this surge of a good mood, and I become extremely capable and inspired. That inspiration is really hard to describe. It’s got some traits of anger, such as the intensity and the determination, but it feels like happiness, and I feel completely whole. My emotions always feel like they are swelling up, and I associate all of that stuff with fire and the sun.
Tl;dr I associate all of most positive emotions and self acceptance with fire, so my element in the world of Aurora would be fire. If I could choose.
Also I like the color combo of red, orange, and yellow above all others.
Getting major Ryomen Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen) vibes from Void Dragon over here, in that he doesn’t actually care for any of them, even Erin (he only cares about what Erin represents), but has ended up providing an assist for his own reasons completely separate from anything the party is feeling
Aw, he cares about Erin’s wellbeing. How sweet.
If Erin falls, he’ll catch him.
a mf is salty
Abandon dragon!
Oh, is he taking over Tynan?
Also, that settles what Void’s plan is – nothing, he’s just mad at Tynan.
Also also, I love Falst’s “That’s not Erin”, so fabulously creepy.
Voidy be like “this is my OC do not steal”
Get stomped on, weather boy
GETTIM GETTIM GETTIM
That is not Erin.
Tynan is in trouble now.
Void Dragon is MAD!
Storm dragon is falling down,
falling down, falling down
Storm dragon is falling down
My fair lady.
So let go! Now!
i love how concerned dainix looks in the second panel. that’s the appropriate level of “oh shit” that this situation calls for
Void Dragon uses Cease-and-Desist
It’s Super Effective
LOVE that as soon as Void Dragon shows up the color pallet turns to shades of purple and gold!
Voidy be like “there can be only ONE dragon!”
Haha dragon fight
Dainix starts forward but Falst
Cries, “DON’T! That’s not Erin,”
As the Void Dragon addresses Tynan,
Contempt and anger plain.
“I can’t decide which enrages me more
That you damaged my precious vessel-
Or that you dared steal MY FORM!”
It raises the hand of the vessel.
The storm- dragon writhes and screams,
Dark veins corrupt its wings,
It plummets, smoking with inky vapours,
Throwing Kendal and Tess to the winds.
Now that was a great page.
vd: FUCKER STOLE MY BRAND
In this pannel, incomprehensible evil sues comprehendable evil for copyright infringment
*insert sonic unleashed scream*
Enraged the Dragon truly appears
As they jump and Void attacks Tynan’s rears
Tynan: I DIDN’T STEAL IT! YOUR PATENT FOR IT EXPIRED THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO!
Yeah, let’s NOT unleash soulfire on the possessed Erin as he attacks Tynan and while Alinua is nearby. Though maybe keep that option open for later in case V.D. outstays his … “welcome”.

Boy, the Paladins are sure going to love to hate seeing evidence of the Dark Dragon right next to their grand archive
Is VD going to use this as evidence against Erin later to try get him to utilise his power later, like as in “Look how strong it is, you can even use it to protect your friends as you failed to do so with your own power,” etc? Voidy really just said “theres only one BBEG in this campaign and thats ME!”
This is one of my favorite villain vibes, thank you so much Red 😀
I love this comment section 🙂
TL;DR: Voidy strikes back… because he thinks he’s copyrighted “dragon”.
Also, I’m worried that Kendal didn’t let go. We don’t see him jump-off, and he’s reckless enough to stay on if he thinks he can survive the void.
The Void Dragon: “You thought I could only produce large explosions, didn’t you? Unfortunately for you, I can also do pinpoint aiming.”
Okay, I’m pretty sure The Junior Archivist can see Tynan melting from void magic. Cue panicked void sighting comparison session.
Skystrike:

I love the sardonic ‘hey look! Fireworks!’ Touché Red! Your art and dialogue are top notch on this panel!
alt text: brutal, all I get for that is copyright strikes
@Skye the Floof Squad would bring Erin. Erin is the fireworks.
I cast ‘summon Bigger fish’.
“My precious vessel-”
Oh no.
As a Lord of the Rings fan, the word precious cannot be spoken in my prescence without me getting chills. It is one of the creepiest words.
“Cease and Desist, unto oblivion!”
void dragon: you hurt my little boy,
Big DBZA “Vegeta he stole your hairdo” “I’LL KILL HIM” vibes.
“my precious”….. hmmm this phrase does NOT seem like a good sign…
also i cannot WAIT to get Tess’s reaction!!!
Is no one going to mention panel 7? cause dang. that is so detailed and so striking.
Also I can’t decide whether Falst’s statement is a warning or a realization. works either way I suppose.
How does it feeeeel, Tynan?
Void is PISSED, holy crap. Tynan, I would run if I was you. And I think I’ve been saying this for the last couple panels, but gosh, the artwork is just so gorgeous (and terrifying).
aaannnnddd… Erin gets aggro…
Not Voidy garekeeping BEING A DRAGON
All right so we have three Almost-Dragons here. A storm-god using a dragon shaped avatar made out of what I can only assume is mostly rain. A Dragon-god walking around in the body of a Totally Normal Dude who is almost completely human shaped. @Sig Figs definitely a warning — just look at his pupils. Honestly, seeing Falst, of all people, that scared was… disconcerting to me
I love Falst and Dainix’s interactions here. I especially like how worried Falst is in panel two. Haha, oh Walter… you’re gonna be REAL upset when the white dragon of the Paladins shows up!
Have fun with that!
*Disappears in a puff of smoke, as agents of chaos are wont to do*
I can’t wait for all the character angst after this
To Hermit Thrush:
Lol, fair enough
Sky: for QOTD #1: I think Erin would bring something like the dragon firework gandolf brought to baggins’ 100th birthday. Alinua would bring sparklers for both kids and adults alike. As for QOTD #2: maybe an iron cast who hasn’t been chosen by the sky or a stone mage?
Has Falst seen VD before?
To clarify my answer to the second QOTD I would want the stone magic but think ironcast might be more fitting
I am simultaneously loving Voidy & everything he is doing on this page – while terrified that he is going to lose control – and just absolutely in AWE of your artwork on this, Red!

Aw man, another cape ruined. Erin is gonna be upset.
Good news: Tynan isn’t a problem any more.
Bad news: The thing that zapped him is an even bigger problem.
Falst: dynamite
Alinua: asks Kendal what a firework is

Dainix: decides it’s stupid and goes to work out
Erin: laughs at all of the above and showed them how it’s REALLY done.
Redemption arc of the evil character influenced by Erin’s not really human emotions
Red stop drawing simp-able characters for me to get obsessed with!
Soooo are Tess and Dainix permanent party members? Because they should be.
HAHDHHSHAASFAHGOVEBOVI
I love the Void Dragon so much
Why do you draw all the eyes with glow effects on the iris? It looks fine, it’s just interesting.
@Jaq I really don’t see VD Walter stooping to manipulating the party. Erin, maybe, for reasons of pure practicality — he needs Erin to cooperate if he wants to achieve his goals. On page 23 of this chapter Tynan says that he should’ve taken this form centuries ago. Buddy I think you missed your chance.

The comic STARTED with a god getting outclassed. Things have not gotten better for gods in the pecking order since then, really.
