Ok, Alinua’s alive, self-healing on overtime from the looks of it, and V.D. has other things on his mind. That’s, relatively, good; we’ve seen that her magic can repel and heal Void so fingers crossed she should fully recover from this.
V.D. just took over Erin while next to Life’s vessel, near a guy who’s fire can burn gods, a short walk from Paladin HQ and not a single singing cave in sight. He wouldn’t do this unless he was absolutely sure Erin’s life was in danger, which, considering Tynan is too far for Dainix to hit and Kendal and Tess can’t seem to ground him, seems like a fair assessment. It’s not ego either; that face looks more concerned than insulted by Tynan.
I think V.D. knows he’s taking a huge risk exposing himself, but has to take it else Erin might not survive.
Prediction for next week: V.D. attacks Tynan drawing massive “OH S**T” faces from the Junior Archivist and all the protags bar Tess. Unless she can see that Erin is being possessed by this new shadow dragon thing, in that case I could almost see her ignoring Tynan and try to reach her brother.
The real question is, what is VD’s opinion on Tynan? Is he with him cause enemy of my enemy is my enemy, will Tynan go all high and mighty against him going like: ‘Bah your too weak’ and then get absolutely obliterated? Or will VD just not give a damn. Does he wanna do something with Alinua, does he wanna just go free himself or does he wanna rip Tynan a new one for daring to imitate his perfect form.

I just realized an interesting possibility; since there isn’t a nearby entrance to The Singing Caves (that we know of), and considering Erin’s comment before he unleashed his fireball, I’m starting to wonder if he imperiled his life on purpose so that The Void Dragon would interfere and floor Tynan. Which, if that’s the case… Erin, yes, Alinua and Kendal can handle being hit by void magic, but no one else on the team can!

I just think that it’s pretty cool how that’s actually playing out now.
Well maybe if you want her to stay awake you should, I don’t know, stop dissolving her so she doesn’t pass out from the intense pain that’s obviously causing?

I didn’t expect all the dragon lovers but then again this is a fantasy story and dragons are a staple of a lot of fantasy stories so… I dunno.
I got into dragons after a dinosaur phase in preschool ended with me seeing a dragon and thinking “dinosaur, but *magic*”. To this day they’re my inspiration to do art, alongside my plants. I like drawing fantastical nature with plants and dragons.
Oh, I looked through the Power of Friendship trope talk as well, and I saw Dainix tied up with someone(The Collector?) with a warrior/green themed person scrying on Kendal and Alinua. I saw Possessed Erin about to kill Kendal but snapping out of it as well.
Nooo, not hot. Erin looks like a zombie.
Terrifying.
(It’s actually Erin’s didactic “I know everything” personality that’s cute. The torn shirt without the smugness? “Oh. So cute!” is replaced with “dear effing god, get me a rocket launcher.”)
Maybe Life is less likely to appear when Alinua is conscious, but unlike Voidy, she doesn’t need her vessel to be out cold, because Alinua cooperates with Her, wants Her there. I seem to recall that in the forest where they met Faust, when dealing the Wizard who’d created the chimeras, Alinua was conscious when Life stepped in. I’d have to check, but I think so. Sorry, Voidy. They just have a different relationship. Maybe you could learn something.
Wow, the design of Erin’s tattoos really shine when VD’s taken over and he’s got the black eyes. The pose is so cool here, he’s got that perfect poised supervillain with unhinged aesthetic going on. And yes the ripped shirt helps :3 aah i just love that whole panel, makes me picture him in ruined and/or bloody formal wear, he’d look AMAZING. And im not (just) saying that thirstily its genuinely great aesthetically.
@icarusancalion I just checked the archives and actually, Alinua *was* down for the count before Life stepped in. If Life can’t (or won’t) manifest through her when she’s conscious, this might explain her refusal to help out at the prison. Maybe she’s afraid of putting too much of a strain on her mind — potentially due to how things went with the Collector? VD Walter, in contrast, doesn’t really care about his vessel’s wellbeing…
VD is gonna prove how nasty he’s capable of being by scaring the ever living f**k out of Tynan. Odds are though, Dainix still needs a power moment, and a show of power. Kendal will probably pull something really awesome with Dainix’s help.
Side not, I really wish Kendal would get some self worth. Freaking nerd, why can’t he realize that only looking out for others is philosophically and morally flawed? One is generally equal to those around them, and the one person an individual can take care of most is themself. Proper morality would have one benefit those around them, but it does not matter who the benefiting is coming from, just that it is happening. To benefit myself without hurting others is a moral action.
Therefore, favorite sword/man Kendal should grow a brain, and stop absolutely yeeting himself into harm’s way. Kendal’s expectations for himself are too high.
@Hermit Thrush, ahh, okay. Voidy also waits for his vessel to be out cold to take over.
It seems like they can communicate with their vessels when they’re conscious–there’s Life’s “No” to Alinua–but their vessels have to be unconscious for them to take over (though Voidy gave it the old college try in the Storm). Erin was conscious in the caves, but Voidy took over when he was asleep. And once Erin was conscious, he could fight it. So the key here is to let Voidy take out Tynan (I reallllllly hope they don’t just come to some kind of a deal “This one’s mine, you can have the others , you’re absurd for even wanting the town but, sure, fine”) and then wake Erin up.
Tynan is pretty much done for here, it’s mostly a question of how long he can linger, how much damage he does in that time, and exactly who manages to take him out with what. (Still hoping that the Void Dragon’s gonna eat him.)
After that, though, I wonder what’ll happen. The Light Dragon is liable to put in some sort of appearance.

Definitely Dainix. Just mysterious enough that it could make sense. I’m a little biased here, though, because my headcannon is that he’s absolutely gay.
I feel like someone mentioned this already, but I wonder if this will prompt Ali to knock herself out in order to make Life interfere? That seems like the kind of awful self-sacrifice someone in her mental state would do.

@SarissaTeiflingDruid How would that be an awful self-sacrifice? For a self-sacrificing decision to be a bad one, the cost needs to be worse than the thing gained by it. Alinua can heal herself afterwards, as long as she doesn’t die, but we can infer that Life wants to stop VD and VD flees when Life possesses Alinua’s body, so she wouldn’t die.

As thrilled as I am to watch Voidy tear Tynan a new one. I’m curious to see what soul fire will do to him now that Kendall has awakened it. Since void dragon seemingly can’t control souls to the extent he can the elements.

I didn’t expect all the dragon lovers but then again this is a fantasy story and dragons are a staple of a lot of fantasy stories so… I dunno.
I got into dragons after a dinosaur phase in preschool ended with me seeing a dragon and thinking “dinosaur, but *magic*”. To this day they’re my inspiration to do art, alongside my plants. I like drawing fantastical nature with plants and dragons.

Oh, I looked through the Power of Friendship trope talk as well, and I saw Dainix tied up with someone(The Collector?) with a warrior/green themed person scrying on Kendal and Alinua. I saw Possessed Erin about to kill Kendal but snapping out of it as well.
Nooo, not hot. Erin looks like a zombie.

(It’s actually Erin’s didactic “I know everything” personality that’s cute. The torn shirt without the smugness? “Oh. So cute!” is replaced with “dear effing god, get me a rocket launcher.”)
Maybe Life is less likely to appear when Alinua is conscious, but unlike Voidy, she doesn’t need her vessel to be out cold, because Alinua cooperates with Her, wants Her there. I seem to recall that in the forest where they met Faust, when dealing the Wizard who’d created the chimeras, Alinua was conscious when Life stepped in. I’d have to check, but I think so. Sorry, Voidy. They just have a different relationship. Maybe you could learn something.

Wow, the design of Erin’s tattoos really shine when VD’s taken over and he’s got the black eyes. The pose is so cool here, he’s got that perfect poised supervillain with unhinged aesthetic going on. And yes the ripped shirt helps :3 aah i just love that whole panel, makes me picture him in ruined and/or bloody formal wear, he’d look AMAZING. And im not (just) saying that thirstily its genuinely great aesthetically.
@icarusancalion I just checked the archives and actually, Alinua *was* down for the count before Life stepped in. If Life can’t (or won’t) manifest through her when she’s conscious, this might explain her refusal to help out at the prison. Maybe she’s afraid of putting too much of a strain on her mind — potentially due to how things went with the Collector? VD Walter, in contrast, doesn’t really care about his vessel’s wellbeing…
I just love that Red specified us not to direct any thirsty comments to them, and the second and third ever mention the shirtless status
VD is gonna prove how nasty he’s capable of being by scaring the ever living f**k out of Tynan. Odds are though, Dainix still needs a power moment, and a show of power. Kendal will probably pull something really awesome with Dainix’s help.
Side not, I really wish Kendal would get some self worth. Freaking nerd, why can’t he realize that only looking out for others is philosophically and morally flawed? One is generally equal to those around them, and the one person an individual can take care of most is themself. Proper morality would have one benefit those around them, but it does not matter who the benefiting is coming from, just that it is happening. To benefit myself without hurting others is a moral action.
Therefore, favorite sword/man Kendal should grow a brain, and stop absolutely yeeting himself into harm’s way. Kendal’s expectations for himself are too high.

It seems like they can communicate with their vessels when they’re conscious–there’s Life’s “No” to Alinua–but their vessels have to be unconscious for them to take over (though Voidy gave it the old college try in the Storm). Erin was conscious in the caves, but Voidy took over when he was asleep. And once Erin was conscious, he could fight it. So the key here is to let Voidy take out Tynan (I reallllllly hope they don’t just come to some kind of a deal “This one’s mine, you can have the others , you’re absurd for even wanting the town but, sure, fine”) and then wake Erin up.
Well, I sure hope somebody picks up that phone.
Tynan is pretty much done for here, it’s mostly a question of how long he can linger, how much damage he does in that time, and exactly who manages to take him out with what. (Still hoping that the Void Dragon’s gonna eat him.)
After that, though, I wonder what’ll happen. The Light Dragon is liable to put in some sort of appearance.

I feel like someone mentioned this already, but I wonder if this will prompt Ali to knock herself out in order to make Life interfere? That seems like the kind of awful self-sacrifice someone in her mental state would do.

@SarissaTeiflingDruid How would that be an awful self-sacrifice? For a self-sacrificing decision to be a bad one, the cost needs to be worse than the thing gained by it. Alinua can heal herself afterwards, as long as she doesn’t die, but we can infer that Life wants to stop VD and VD flees when Life possesses Alinua’s body, so she wouldn’t die.
