Probably a good idea… I don’t think Dainix has learned to control his Giant Monkey… er…. Fire Form yet, and the last thing they need is to have the poor guy rampaging while Tynan is quite literally looming
I’d say to try the time out hand sign, but I don’t know if “T”s exist in this universe.
Ok something is definitely wrong here; Dainix isn’t even trying to explain the situation or pulling his punches. Plus it’s more than just a few cracks, his whole body is stating to go up in flames.
I’m guessing one of two options. One, Dainix isn’t practicing what he preached about emotions and fighting, so he’s been bottling them all day, messing with his fire powers and now he can’t think straight. Or two, the Dainix is the demon theory was right all along. Maybe a combination.
I highly doubt Zuurith will accept that demand and any attempt by Kendal to throw the match would likely be picked up by him. Even Kendal doing something to get him disqualified like jumping into the audience might get ignored. Unless Zuurith clues into Dainix being a genuine threat to the people in the arena might he stop the match and step in.
Dianix’s eyes are very cleverly hidden in many of the panels here. The last one is obviously glowing & we see a hint of it earlier but his hair is mostly in the way otherwise…
also is it just me or are Kendal’s eyes glowing slightly too? Is Vash giving him insight?
@veggiesnake to be fair, that has happened to literally every other member of the floof squad so far. Alinua distrusted herself, Alinua and Erin distrusted Erin, and Alinua, Falst, and Erin have all distrusted Falst at at least one point. Heck, even Kendal has distrusted himself a few times.
I’m probably not the first to think of it, but I’m guessing the party will have someone connected to each of the six primordials. There’s already Alinua for the Life primordial, which is probably key to bringing the other primordials back to life. We’ll still need some characters for Water, Wind and Stone.
Hello Haiku, Evil Tree, and PersonMcPerson: Thanks for the birthday wishes! I had a great birthday and I’m really happy it was on a three day weekend.
I like how Kendal’s being like “TIMEOUT DUDE ARE YOU OKAY” until he gets a good enough look to be like “Nope, not okay”. I doubt that Zuury will stop the match because this is getting juicy and also because Zuurith is Zuurith. I wonder how much they can see of Dainix’s losing control from the audience because UP CLOSE it’s really obvious but since the arena is very big maybe it’s not as obvious from where the audience is.
Something about Dainix’s expression in his final panel on his page is very animalistic. I feel like whatever this is-demon, most likely- is sort of feral and might be wearing away Dainix’s self-control and rationale to turn him into a weapon of mass destruction, which would probably be bad for both Kendal AND himself. Since, you know, fire. Based on his words from the last page he’s barely holding it together and maybe, given the eye glowy thing happening now, might have already lost it. Either way this is some good stuff and I can’t wait to see more. Especially if Kendal has to do an “I know you’re in there somewhere” fight to save Dainix from himself while trying not to hurt him and also trying not to get toasted.
#WEast: lol
I love the representation of long weapon combat, doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. That said, ZURRITH, THE CHAMPION’S ABOUT TO BLOW!
I’d say we should watch for the elemental rune of fire. If he is the primordial of fire trying to make an incarnation, like the chimeric plague but a lot more hot, the elemental rune of fire will appear somewhere on his body. That is probably why his eye is covered, the rune is there.
What he is going through seems to resemble Alinua’s arc quite a bit, with all the glowy cracks, glowy eyes, losing control, pushing away Kendal and any family to try and keep them safe, etc.. My one question is, how does Caliban factor in? Do they know what he is, and intend to use him to protect their people? Gleicann knew to respect Ms. Life, I wonder if the gods are aware of the somewhat aliveness of the primordials. Is Caliban trying to use Fire?
Will fire boi fill the Big Guy role in the party? Will that be Tess? Will the two try to share the big seat?
I think Kendal’s eyes normally look like that. That’s not to say they don’t glow just a little bit, because it’s quite possible they’re always slightly luminous (given the ‘former incarnation’ thing and maybe the ‘possibly actually a mystical sword’ thing), but they’re not glowing at the same level we’ve seen when he’s tapping into his connection with Vash.
Although now that you mention it, they did pick up a little bit of a glow when he got the sword back, as did the jewel in the hilt…I’ll have to go back and see if the glow was lost when they were separated, because Red seems to be taking special care to keep Kendal’s eyes and the jewel in the sword near-identical in appearance…
Also, I love all the little details here. The layout and dynamic posing is amazing, but what really makes the scene are things like how you can see panel-to-panel the fiery cracks spreading across Dainix’s body, or how his markings in the third-to-last panel are noticeably glowing (they admittedly seem to be doing so the past few pages, but it’s far subtler there). Or the way the sound effect in the second panel can at a glance be mistaken for a fiery wing…
I was recommended this comic three days ago, and when I started reading it, my 5 year old decided she wanted to know what was going on. I started by summarizing the events, but that wasn’t good enough for her so now I read it line by line with her, including voices I made up. So I want you to know that my 5 year old and I are caught up, and she is eager for the next page!
Skye, HelloHaiku, Evil Tree, and PersonMcPerson: Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I had a better birthday than I’ve had in years since it just so happened to be the same day as my monthly plant club meeting. So I got some birthday plants and later my dad got donuts. I love sugar so this was appreciated.
Pascal: welcome to this wild ride of a webcomic! I hope you and your kiddo enjoy it!
Welcome, Pascal and Juniorette! It’s always good to meet new fans in the comments. Feel free to jump in and start theorizing about anything and everything 🙂
Yeaaaaahhhh, something tells me Zuurith (or alternatively, his Arenamaster) won’t end the fight that quickly. Welp, Zuurith didnt like the arena, anyway, so I guess he won’t mind when it’s demolished. Sunstorm the Budgie, you’re right on the money with what I was thinking :-).
…oh wait, the people 8-|.
@Pascal & young one: Welcome to the comments!
I agree with all the people complimenting Red’s art. I think she’s taking advantage of the 3D models that CSP has (i think she’s using CSP to make this comic), and if she isn’t using 3D models then her anatomy skills are insanity.
I actually forgot to check on this page the other day so that’s why im sorta late
Honestly? I have no idea. Maybe because we’re a collection of fantasy lovers, nerds, artists, and writers? Because we love OSP videos and wholesome content? Because we’re just that one corner that for some incredible reason attracted a bunch of fans who naturally and willingly formed an inclusive, supportive community that loves to fan-person over Red’s work?
Like I said, no idea. But it’s wonderful to be here regardless.
Time for Kendal to become Super Jump Man and play this game of Ultimate Dodge Ball(Spear).
this comic is destroying my sleep schedule one page at a time and I regret nothing
That last panel with Dainix looks super cool.
While Kendal’s got hops
Dainix has now gone feral.
“Zuurith! End this NOW!”
Goldfinch, Somebody
Happy belated birthdays
to the both of you!
love how Kendal tells Zurith what to do even though he is in his areana…
@Saint Bigfoot: dodge spear counciling!
red, you are PURE EVIL.
Probably a good idea… I don’t think Dainix has learned to control his Giant Monkey… er…. Fire Form yet, and the last thing they need is to have the poor guy rampaging while Tynan is quite literally looming
I guess that he is literally hot now.
Oop looks like Dainix is about to explode into a ball of fire
@Reader I thought of the same joke xDD super hot indeed
For some reason I think Dainix might not actually pose any threat to Kendal
I’d say to try the time out hand sign, but I don’t know if “T”s exist in this universe.

If you can dodge a spear you can dodge a ball.
Man I love the dynamic posing in this page, the perspective and motion is superb!
Kendal: Zuurith, end this now!
Zuurith: No.
Turns to Dainix: Flameo hotman!
Gotta disagree with Kendal on tjis one. I kinda wanna see Dainix’ final form, and for that to happen, the fight’s gotta go on.
Oh and btw, happy belated birthdays to Goldfinch and Somebody.
Can’t wait to see Dainix be distrusted by most of the Floof squad because of this. Yay…
So. That fire demon thing Dainx was telling Kendal about in chapter 13 (pg 23), you don’t think it’s somehow involved in this? Just a hunch.
This page’s image source: end.
Ominous.
I get that this is a bad time but man does their hair look MAJESTIC
Dianix’s eyes are very cleverly hidden in many of the panels here. The last one is obviously glowing & we see a hint of it earlier but his hair is mostly in the way otherwise…
also is it just me or are Kendal’s eyes glowing slightly too? Is Vash giving him insight?
TL;DR: Oh no my friend I’ve only known for a couple days is going crazy, please stop the fight he needs a doctor’s appointment.
Finally! An I Know You’re In There Somewhere Fight!
(happy belated birthday Goldfinch and Somebody xoxo)

Oh fuck, it’s getting worse by the second. I don’t even have anything to theorize on this page, it’s just bad.
Evil Tree:
I’m pretty certain at this point that Dainix is the demon. And it seems like his inner fire is gaining control.
Your art style has improved in leaps and bounds since the beginning of this comic. It’s really amazing to see how far you’ve come :>
Dbz power up speedrun go skrrr
Fire extinguisher? I think it might be super effective.

@DragonMaster66 I think Kendals eyes are glowing more than slightly, not trying to be rude.
alt text: bro you just started
Not sure whether I want Kendal to save/calm Dainix, or for Dainix to get a chance to go ham on Zuurith and/or Tynan.
Ummm… To storm or fire Zuurith must fall?
#WEast: lol
I love the representation of long weapon combat, doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. That said, ZURRITH, THE CHAMPION’S ABOUT TO BLOW!
It would appear that Sir Hot Boi the Floof is about to get a lot hotter and much less floofier…
HOLY I NEED TO SEE THIS GET FINISHED
oh wait the end of the chapter is in a few pages huh
I’d say we should watch for the elemental rune of fire. If he is the primordial of fire trying to make an incarnation, like the chimeric plague but a lot more hot, the elemental rune of fire will appear somewhere on his body. That is probably why his eye is covered, the rune is there.

“Hey, how’s it going?
Is that your car they’re towing?
I’m pretty sure that’s your car.
No, you can’t park there.
Whoa! Your head’s on fire!”
Dainix in the last panel: NECK
What’s going through my head after the bottom left panel:
That boy is on fireeeeeee (fire fire)
Happy Belated Birthday Goldfinch and Somebody!

Oh right, welcome Pascal and small child.
Oh hey, even your name is appropriate for this scene, Sunstorm the Budgie! Neat :-).
Happy belated birthday to Goldfinch and Somebody!
And @Pascal – welcome to the fandom!
Is it time for an “I Know You’re In There Somewhere” fight??
Hug him Kendal! Hug him and win him over with the power of friendship!!!!
Why is this community so damn wholesome, i love it, but I seriously want an answer
@ me

Anyone else getting the feeling that the “Demon” Dainix talked about in his story to Kendal might have been…. Oh I don’t know…. Him?
Floofy hair cinnamon roll vs. Floofy hair cinnamon roll
Don’t make him fight his boyfriend
I imagined the Mario sound effect when Kendal jumped.
