Alinua would probably cringe at the thought of seedless fruit.
Hypersensitive smell, maybe that’s another reason Ferin typically don’t do big cities. Even with proper waste management the general number of people and smells their jobs may produce might reek to them.
Now, is that Tess stumbling because of the effects of the flower pellet powder, skidding/swerving after seeing Shrike and her boys in front of her or a combination of the two?
Not entirely sure what’ll happen next week. I don’t see Tess getting captured, so she has to break that cuff one way or another. The thing I’m not sure about is what Ali and Falst will do, be heroes and try to help Tess or not get involved until the situation forces them to.
Or maybe Red’ll leave it on a cliffhanger and change scene to either Erin or Kendal.
Alinua is contemplating whether or not weaponizing melons is a violation of the Geneva Convention.
Falst comparing the smell to syrup makes me think that the sleeping pollen smells sickly sweet. I guess he prefers savory foods. Actually, I wonder what the team’s favorite foods are… Kendal wouldn’t have much reference; in fact, I think the only meal he’s had was that fried something on a stick in Windscrest, so that would be his favorite by default (unless he had some bread and soup in the Hilltop inn, in which case it’s a coin toss). Alinua is probably the easiest guess; it seems she really likes fruits of any variety. Erin gives me the vibes of someone who enjoys meats and spicy foods, though that’s admittedly a stereotypical guess because he’s aristocracy. Falst… he’s probably had to forage all his food, and he stuck close to a river in Gleicann’s forest, so I’m guessing grilled fish would be his favorite.
Evil Tree:
It has been a while since we’ve seen Kendal and Dainix; I’m thinking their next scene will be a guard telling them they’ve got a match coming up.
Seeds of melons. Long time since I’ve eaten them. They’re way better than orange and grape seeds. You have to chew more if it’s orange or grape. Whoever spits the seeds out like the rest of my family, I’d like to say it’s too much of a hassle disposing the seeds unless you’re outdoors. Eating the seeds is more convenient and you can just swallow if you don’t like the taste. Btw ThengaMudiyan means Coconut Haired. My hair is thicc as flip
@evil tree, I think it’s more likely to be Erin, because even though we haven’t seen Kendal in awhile, there’s not much to see right now with him, but we have no idea what Erin is up to with the whole archive thing, and thus I feel like it’s more likely we’ll be seeing Erin sooner rather than later
Those seeds are gonna get used. Most obvious source of life in Alinua’s reach, I’m betting she’s going to want to keep seeds on-hand after this. Great for her, as she’s likely the only one of the three getting away. Shrike seems to have the edge on Tess in the chase (unfortunately) and an implied bad habit of scooping up any ferin she comes across on her chases (more unfortunately).
I predict two scenarios!
1) There’s no way Alinua and Falst are going to turn this down, especially since they’ve met Tess a couple of times already. Falst is almost definitely still ticked that they couldnt bust open the prison, and Alinua is likely to support him this time since its for a semi-friend against the system.
2) On the other note, its also possible that they’ll just retreat & be super cautious, especially since they got seen on the prison mountain (with Tess, no less) and dont want to attract trouble. In this case Red might connect it by having Tess meet Kendal in the prison instead, and we get a two-for-one with her & Dainix both joining the party at the same time in a battle against the thunderstorm thats still ominously here.
To be honest, as much as I love scenario 1, I feel like Red would aim for 2. She loves her fight scenes, but it really does depend on the characters. And in this situation, 2 ties up plot threads nicely, providing a good segue back to Kendal.
I would however love to see Alinua as Melon Lord <3
I literally just realized that my timestamps default to Central Daylight time (in the US)- it shows as an hour behind than when IRL for me. Wild. So does that mean that people genuinely post at 3 am, and its not just a timezone difference?
How many seeds does that melon contain? What does it taste like? Is it the best compination of juicy watermelon and sweet cantaloupe? Will Alinua save the seeds for later? Is Tess about to be captured? Will the delectable scent of Shrike’s bag of Temptations cat treats force Falst to act against his will?
Oh no. What’s happening to Falst. No, no, talk to me. TALK TO ME!!!
Also, what’s the bet that Shrike and crew end up splitting up Falst, Alinua and Tess and chase them, each thinking they’re catching Tess because of the cape.
OR
Tess gets arrested for illegal roof parkour, Falst gets taken in because he’s a Ferin and they’re looking for a Ferin and a second person and well he’s there with Alinua (should’ve played cards instead) and Alinua is arrested for illegal life magic, potentially being the second person on the prison roof or something. I’m sure they’ll find a reason. Erin’s just left to bail them all out and as he walks past Tess is like ‘HEY YOU! SKINNY EGO KID! GO FIGHT THE WEIRD GIANT CLOUD!’ And that’s (probably) the story of how Tess was added to the group.
OK! OK! OK! HEAR ME OUT! So this gas stops magic. Even natural magic. Like the magic that makes Tess lighter right. And when Tess went around the corner, her cape flicked some of the anti-magic gas into Falst and he breathed it in. So what if, WHAT IF, he becomes human briefly. Like the gas blocks the spell that was put on his ancestors and he TURNS HUMAN LIKE HE WANTED! Perhaps even helped out by the fact that he tried using the l-la-le – the glowy magic stone thing. And it’s just making me really happy but I might not be right. I also feel like if I AM right, he’s going to realise that he prefers being a Ferin because he can’t SMELL anything or CLIMB anything and how are you supposed to HEAR anything and it feels weird without fur and ahhhgggrrrr!!!
Dark Wolf:
…I’m pretty sure that cloud is the same pollen that Alinua used to knock out Erin (and by extension the Void Dragon) back in chapter 7. No anti-magic macguffin here, just a chloroform flower.
TL;DR: Collateral damage. Was always bound to happen, what do heroes do? Get tangled up in unnecessary chaos because the plot demands it! Must be a hard job.
Sorry this is so late, I was swamped in homework this weekend. Yikes!
It may just be chloroform flower gas BUT it could be infused with stuff that makes it Anti-magic. Also, if the cuff is an anti-magic cuff, how come shrike could control it with her magic? … I just really want Falst to get his wish.
Dark wolf:
The ferin curse is intrinsically connected to false biology, it’s not an ever present magic spell that keeps him like this, the reason shrike can manipulate the chains is cuz the ant-magic stuff comes from the runes on the INSIDE of the cufff, so any other part of the chain is fair game for shrike.
How is the melon with a lot of seeds *great*? Seeds are the enemy
maybe she wants to grow some herself which she will need the seeds for
You know I imagine this sleeping Tess’s steps sound like some heavy, hollow metal structure noise…
Also the bitch squad is already there.
Uh, oh…
Alinua would probably cringe at the thought of seedless fruit.

@Evil Tree I think that it’s probably Kendal because we have been seeing Alinua, Falst, and Erin ever since 1.13.25.
Alinua’s gonna keep those seeds and grow blue melons for the party! Or at least, I hope so…
Run Tess run! XD
Uh oh, seems like trouble is on its way
Falst in the last panel is reminding me of Kiba when Naruto farted in his face.
Alinua likes her fruit cronchy I guess
@fraymotif: And thus, Alinua will become Mellonlord. Or maybe Mellonlady.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4YnyVdMjG4
Presumably because she can use the seeds to grow more, as well as just being generally helpful for her.
I’m thinking eating is not what Alinua has planned for her melon

I don’t mean the hair on my head.
So, is Tess finally gonna join up with the protagonist squad?
I imagine it’s a sign of fertility, which would understandably please Alinua
@evil tree, I think it’s more likely to be Erin, because even though we haven’t seen Kendal in awhile, there’s not much to see right now with him, but we have no idea what Erin is up to with the whole archive thing, and thus I feel like it’s more likely we’ll be seeing Erin sooner rather than later

MELON LORD
IN OUR TIME OF NEED, YOU HAVE RETURNED TO US
ALL HAIL MELON LOOOORRRDDD
alt text: he’s smelled things you people wouldn’t believe… stinkbugs glittering in the dark off the shoulder of orion…
@RobK shes excited about it so she can regrow them other places
Alinua likes the texture, the seeds give that good *cruunnch*
Are the metal cast folks immune to direct manipulation from metal/stone magic?
All people are immune to any kind of magic. Or at least incredibly resistant. Soul and all that
I predict two scenarios!

@Robk: Remember that Alinua is a bit of a botanist. Plants having seeds makes it easier to grow more!
I’m just gonna assume the seeds taste good in this melon because fantasy, lol
So the Melon is blue in the inside as well.
Hope Falst is fine.
Those happy Alinua faces made my day.
Tune in Next Week to Find Out!
ha the melon is one of the creations of my cultists
Lovely blue melon,
I like how you’re filled with seeds.
Wait, what’s that sharp smell?
To, RobK
I LOVE watermelon seeds, personally
Oh no. What’s happening to Falst. No, no, talk to me. TALK TO ME!!!

WHy is she running so weird? Is she zigzagging?
Only Alinua would think having a lot of seeds would be a GOOD thing in a fruit.
OK! OK! OK! HEAR ME OUT! So this gas stops magic. Even natural magic. Like the magic that makes Tess lighter right. Wait, life magic needs to start from plants to work. And that watermelon has a lot of seeds… Alinua’s about to go into a fight isn’t she?
Dark Wolf:
…I’m pretty sure that cloud is the same pollen that Alinua used to knock out Erin (and by extension the Void Dragon) back in chapter 7. No anti-magic macguffin here, just a chloroform flower.
Dark Wolf:
The sealing cuff that’s still on her wrist is what’s blocking the magic. Not the knockout gas.
Evil Tree: don’t give red cliffhanger ideas
Quite an experience for your nose to be both plot device and comedy relief, isn’t it… that’s what it is to be a reformed villain…
TL;DR: Collateral damage. Was always bound to happen, what do heroes do? Get tangled up in unnecessary chaos because the plot demands it! Must be a hard job.
Sorry this is so late, I was swamped in homework this weekend. Yikes!
Am I really the only one who likes watermelon seeds? Cmon some a ya gotta like it, no?
It may just be chloroform flower gas BUT it could be infused with stuff that makes it Anti-magic. Also, if the cuff is an anti-magic cuff, how come shrike could control it with her magic? … I just really want Falst to get his wish.
redddd, would you ever consider doing digital art tutorial videos? your art is sooo pretty!!

As an autistic person with sensitivity to smell- yeah that hurts. Feel ya buddy *pat pat*
