A protagonist’s good nature is both a blessing and a curse. I guess it’s either they get captured by Shrike and meet up with Kendall in prison or a city wide chase sequence. Or something else entirely

Tess still doesn’t sound too concerned but I’m starting to wonder whether that’s because she has good reason to be or if that’s just her personality and she is in genuine danger.
Notice how Shrike has her mask back on in panel 8? I bet she’s planning to throw another pellet once those chains hold her still. While I can see Tess still escaping that experience will not be good for Falst.
They may not be guards but attacking them would probably still be an offence. However since they’re not an official part of Zuurith’s criminal justice system interfering with their activities, in a plausible deniability way, may not be a crime.
How about a flurry of life-charged melon seeds that’ll sprout vines, entangle the hunters and buy Tess some time? Or maybe Tess dodges those chains, ducks down the alleyway they’re in and Alinua grows a melon vine to the rooftops for her then plays dumb to Shrike? Small vine to snap the sealing cuff and then she shocks Shrike via her own chains?
TL;DR: And everyone’s predictions are right. Main character and Lightning Lady have run into one another in the middle of a crazy street chase and as the heroes are obliged to do the right thing ™.

I think that a more drama-fueled line of events will happen, but I personally like the idea of Alinua and Falst stepping in and managing to escape with Tess, annoying Shrike, and then she joins the team that way. And then, when Erin gets back from the archives, they’re all like “look Erin, we made a new friend! She’s on the run from the law!”
wait, that is shrike? the same one that was in that blue dress a few pages back?!? i completely missed that it was the same character. she looked very much like a non-combat character then, i thought she probably ran the business side of the bounty hunters or something
Red is probably going to be changing Tess to protagonist in a few panels! I’m really curious if Dainix will be joining them, or if he’ll just join them for a bit then go off on his own path… IDK, so excited to find out!
Is Tess’ charade over? Does Alinua not realize that Shrike is a bounty hunter under the employ of the guards? Will Alinua offer Shrike some tasty blue melon to the face? Will Falst ask Shrike for a Temptations cat treat?
I feel like getting Tess a lawyer might really be the best help you can get her at this point. Like, I’m honestly not sure what crime she’s committed, other than running around on people’s rooftops, which ….I bet Erin could just pay her fine if he wanted.
Of course, that would only really work if this city was really Lawful Neutral. As the city seems to be Lawful Evil, I suspect just being a powerful foreign lightning mage who would make for spectacular fights in the arena is enough that they’ll find an excuse to stack every offense they can on her.
Quick question, what metal is tess’s hair made of? I think it may be silver or polished steel, but it looks like the starmetal ingot tahraim gave vash.
Shrike is in a lot more danger than she seems to notice, here. So far the biggest advantage she’s had in the fight has been the fact that Tess isn’t fighting back. As was demonstrated with Tess straight-up breaking the chains by hand, that’s not because Tess CAN’T fight back.
Sooooo….
