I like how affable the wyrm and Rakhn are, calling a truce while still trading jabs. Goes to show how long they’ve been doing this song and dance.
My interpretation was that he got messed up by Tess’ blast into the ground. Stephan’s attack seemed like it mostly hit Alinua’s tree, but perhaps it’s both!
I love when gods have this kind of dynamic. It’s such a weird vibe and yet it fits so well with the “sometimes we’re just at the god party together, sometimes we wage divine war upon one another, it’s just how it is” feel of some actual mythology.
It’s cool that the state of Rakhan’s body reflects the state of the actual volcano what with it being broken and oozing lava. I wonder if that damage is mostly from the eruption or if some of it was from paladin guy’s (Stefan?) beam attack.
I think Stefan, the paladin guy’s beam attack is the main reason Rakhan is broken up. Rakhan’s eruption was not a threat to the Volcano Ignans shelter, but Stefans beam very nearly collapsed the whole thing.
Caliban herself confirmed it didnt he? “the attack would have collapsed the shelter complex if he aimed a hair further west”, its definitly stefan’s fault
I can’t wait to read some Aurora fanfic once ao3 is back.
Also I don’t know if I can explain what about this dynamic I like so much, but it’s great.

Anyone want to take bets on if “You’ll know when I awaken” is going to end up becoming a deus ex machina at the end of the comic? Because personally to me it feels like it would be really cool if our heroes were in big trouble and we see a volcano eruption in the distance and Rahkn comes and it could be a cool moment where ALL the friends made along the way appear to help and I’m just rambling Im sorry
nah for all their power Rakhn and the wyrm are still nature gods and we’ve seen what happens when nature gods go too far from their real bodies(ilia) so the same principle still applies, in fact that whole point of Rakhn is that he cant go anywhere(because he is a volcanic island in the middle of nowhere, ocean) so he is perpetually bored
You know, I genuinely thought the rivalry between these two was entirely on Rakhn’s side. It’s actually nice to see that it goes both ways instead of a Joker-Batman or Megatron-Optimus Prime kind of way.
Same, he seemed like the kinda guy to take something personally when it wasn’t intended that way, but I guess they HAVE been fighting for so long they’ve come to respect each other. And Rakhn checking “You’re not going to hurt my friend’s friends, are you?” ant trusting the Northern Wyrm to protect them is so sweet.

Or maybe it’s from erupting, he was rather unmarred when he notified Falst that he was going to go boom.
I see this as his avatar has been spent and is starting to fall apart, not that any one attack did this.

Well Rakhn’s the god of the volcano itself, not the ignans, so I think it’s more because Stefan’s bweem blew a hole in the side of the mountain
