it seems the combination of calibanās antics, prison time, and hanging out with falst has given him a healthy disrespect of authority which I am personally a big fan of
Erin said he could use Fire to transmute it so i guess you can chemically separate water into oxygen and hydrogen??? using Fire magic??? or something?????
Aurora, by word of red, doesnāt have a periodic table. Everything is made up of some proportion of the primordial’s dead bodies (excluding souls, the twins, star metal, the void dragon, and the nonphysical forms of gods) the higher property of fire will be used to transmutate Wind from non breathable form back to breathable form after, well, breathing (and presumably the portion of void that exists in all living things). The plan is solid, lore wise
You’re thinking too literally. Iirc It’s not that there’s no periodic table as we understand it, but rather that such a thing is too much detail to put in the world building process generally. We can assume water is still h2o, but that in this world, the wateriness of it is much more important. Fire isn’t doing chemistry, it’s doing transmutation, but the inputs and outputs can be assumed to be same. In short, she’s not a chemist, but don’t expect the world to be devoid of alchemists
I am sorry to interrupt this thread, but I am pretty sure you are wrong, there is no Atoms, canonically it goes down to the 6 normal elements, the weird seventh element shared by the void dragon and the lady and whatever, there are no different metals, its just Metal the element in some state with some impurities, if I remember correctly its said in Red’s video about elemental system, any property of a substance which doesn’t match it’s components is just result of the emergent interaction between the elements
So water isn’t H2O because neither Hydrogen nor Oxygen exists, Water is its own basic building block completely unrelated from Wind
No Red has said before that there is straight up no atomic chemistry. Oxygen, Hydrogen, etc do not exist in Aurora’s world, only the corpse and soul of Elemental Water. You can check out her tumblr page for information on this.
Chemistry doesnāt work the same in Aurora. There is no oxygen or hydrogen, thereās just water. Breathing here doesnāt extract oxygen from air it consumes and probably transforms wind. Likely an interaction with the fire and void in a mortal body. I would guess the fire magic would be used to undo that transformation, making the wind no longer stale, for lack of a better term.
Auroraās world really actually runs on medieval alchemy logic. Things are hard because their made of stone, at least partially, and are alive because of containing part of primordial life. We recently saw that a volcano here is a mountain with a chunk of primordial fire in it. Fire, through burning properly, can change one kind of gas into another. On our world thatās like petrol becoming smoke. On Aurora, apparently Erin at least can burn stale air into fresh air.
The plan is to bring a bubble of Wind with hime and use Fire to transmute it back into a breathable state. Rephlogisticate it, if you will. It’s funky to us because air and fire don’t work that way in our universe, but given what we know about Fire and Wind, it makes perfect sense.
He probably could do that, but my understanding when he said he was going to keep the air breathable with fire magic was that he was going to use fire magic to break down the co2 he exhales. Basically like a rebreather.
Caliban: Oh yes, this is dangerous, very, very dangerous. (gives a thumbs up) You go for it champ! I believe in you! Falst: WHAT?! You’re just going to let him do this despite knowing the risks?! Caliban: May I remind you that I didn’t intervene when he willingly chose to protect the vessel of an apocalyptic dragon god? A dip in the ocean is peanuts compared to what you ALL signed up for.
Ohh, pretty shot of Rakhn’s volcano against the early night sky. Night drawing in is also good for the gang; it’ll make the Paladin’s ability to search and navigate this footpath-less island harder. Also means Alinua’s mer-people allies can get near the surface without being blinded.
Ah, looks like I was wrong on all fronts about why Dainix is insisting to come with, ah well. Yeah, V.D. is always a danger and they have no idea about the Northern Wyrm’s state, so bringing a V.D. counter who can fight in water is a must. They might even be thinking there’s a non-zero chance the sea monster was a kind of dragon, and don’t want another Void possession situation.
Ouch, Falst is being put through the emotional wringer these last couple of chapters; Dainix’s breakdown on the boat, manipulated by Caliban to steal the fireseed, now this. Plus if his pose in the chapter cover is any indication, and if even half the Falst-Light magic theories are right, his situation is not going to improve anytime soon.
On the plus side, looks like that Paladin fight and his yelling here has cleared out what’s left of the volcanic fumes!
Prediction for next week: No god shows up and Falst begrudgingly goes along with the plan. Erin and Dainix make for the water while everyone else runs different distractions to waylay the Paladins; the chapter cover now making sense as a planned splitting of the party, not a split forced upon them.
Oh. Oh, that last panel makes me worried. Dainix made a mostly reasonable argument, but I can’t help but wonder if part of what’s driving this decision is a wish to say “screw you, screw this, screw whatever you had planned for me” to Calibanā¦
I’d been thinking maybe Dainix could help with transforming the air using a trickle of Crucible power, but keeping the Void Dragon in check makes a lot of sense! Kendal’s proposition also makes sense, though, and honestly, doing the calculus I would’ve weighed Kendal’s lack of fear more heavily in the choice between them. Falst is right: Dainix hated being on that boat. And sure, Tahraim said the Crucible can burn down there, but for how long?
Poor Falst. I knew he wasn’t gonna like this. He looks, justifiably, quite upset. Scared in a way that seems almost like anger on the surface.
Hmmm. Rakhn sure is glowing and smoking in the background. Might be relevant later.
I’ll add here, upon further thought, that I actually think Kendal would be the more tactical choice, and Dainix should have weighed his own phobia and unknowns about how long his Crucible form could hold out far more heavily. I think he might have, if a mess of complicated, unprocessed emotions weren’t interfering with the decision making here. Which I understand! Dear sweet cheese and crackers, Dainix and the lot of them need a break, like, yesterday. And not another bone break! Or skin break! Or health hazard generally!!
However, combat-wise, Kendal can’t really fight underwater. Dainix noticed that he needs to breathe when he fights, so Kendal would only be able to fight while inside Erin’s bubble, at which point, a giant sea monster would eat both of them at once. As a Crucible, Dainix could strike out on his own and really fight, at least enough to draw attention away from the Little Wizard.
He might be able to dip in and out of the bubble: take a breath, then jump out again to fight for a while. It’d be harder, but my guess would be entirely doable to fight outside the bubble’s bounds in bursts. He could also unleash starfire from the edge of the bubble, and Caliban seemed to think that’d be the equivalent of a nuclear laser or something, when Kendal had planned to use it on rock Dainix…
I’m still not convinced that Dainix is the best option for this. He’s a risky one. I will concede that all their options kinda suck.
Well, you’re entitled to that opinion. As strong as Kendal is though, I think fighting the Chimera Wyrm while holding his breath and swimming back to Erin’s bubble every 30 seconds is a bridge too far, even for him. Not to mention if he’s going back to the bubble, he’ll be leading the Wyrm straight to Erin, who is virtually defenceless.
Dainix’s advantage is that he wouldn’t need to breathe at all while in Crucible Form; he won’t have lungs anymore.
1) This is not a healthy mindset, Dainix. “I’m going to throw myself into the ocean unless my patron god tells me not to.” This is exactly what Tahraim was trying to avoid. Just as Dainix was beginning to believe he was more than a weapon and he had his own agency, Caliban swoops in and disrupts his character arc in the worst (but most interesting) way. Kendal better address this, because it’s not so different to HIS suicidal tendencies.
2) That penultimate panel of Kendal, Tess, and Erin is so strange and funny to me, because they’re just standing there watching Dainix and Falst having this PASSIONATE debate, with Dainix even leaning towards Falst’s face and placing BOTH hands on his shoulders, and the background is blacked out like they’re all realising something serious, and all I can think is that they’re all suddenly realising Dainix is gay for Falst. I know it’s supposed to be them hearing Dainix’s reasons and wordlessly making their collective decision, but the only subtitle I can imagine for that panel is: “Ha… GAY!”
3) Did Kendal go somewhere? He isn’t in the last panel, despite standing beside Tess in the panel before. I love Kendal but I don’t trust him; anytime I can’t see him, I have to ask “Did he just run off to test if he can swim or not?”
You know, having two gods personnally invested in your continued existance, character development, and or future utility to them, is something of a safety net when planning on something stupidly dangerous. Like, Caliban literally demonstrated their willingness to do a divine intervention to save his life less than a day ago
Later… “I meant *probably* survive at the bottom of the ocean. I didn’t think you’d be crazy enough to try it.”
Caliban: “Ha! I was hoping you’d be crazy enough to try it.”
I really love those last two panels, the pitch black background is not something I remember you doing before but it really establishes how dangerous this is.
Okay. The physical contact on this page… Crustables being canon is finally plausible to me. Even if only platonic, the bond between these two is clearly… (weird unexplained squeezing gesture) significant.
I see we’re bringing back the “put the boys in a hole” relationship development strategy! This time featuring Dainix and Erin as the boys, and the abyss of ocean as the hole!
Also known as “life-changing field trip”, if you prefer
I can see that they have an almost-plan for when they get down to the water, but please tell me you know HOW they are going to get down to he water? Because they have a cliff to get down, and an ENTIRE FREAKING ARMY to get around, which got them into this mess in the first place. I don’t see HOW, if at all that there is in any way, shape or form an even semi-doable way for them to get off the island in the first place.
Random thought, does anyone think Erin could make a real person homunculus because he has void magic? I mean, obviously not right now and walter would probably disagree with Erin on making a person…..
Tahraim and Caliban right now:
we can look away for a few minutes, he’s probably not gonna try to drown himself or something
Dainix rn gives the same vibe as that one guy saying ‘may Zeus himself strike me down if I’m lying!’
āStrike me down, Zeus! You donāt have the b-ā *gets zapped by lightning*
For mobile readers.

Love the Oven of Akhnai reference
OOH BOY, THIS IS GETTING REAL!
NGL, I think those two would just sit back with popcorn and watch.
Ah, Dainix is so cool!!
Confident fire
Seeking to push his limits
Anxious cat-boyfriend
Caliban is probably hoping he uses the fire seed while he’s in a fight down there.
it seems the combination of calibanās antics, prison time, and hanging out with falst has given him a healthy disrespect of authority which I am personally a big fan of
Dainix resigned logic.
Erin analytical logic.
Kendal optimistic logic.
Falst realistic logic.
Tess probably thinking everyone’s crazy
Also, did Dainix just do a judgemental prayer?
Then Alinua finds them in the bubble and reprimands them on the stupidity of their plan.
“If you weren’t down here playing mermaid, we might have made a better plan with you.”
Ah yes, the patented Ā«if god didnāt agree with me, he would stop meĀ Ā» maneuver
I think this has a little more weight, considering he recently had a conversation with said god, not that long ago.
Hey guys, loooove the tactical planning and character developments, huge fan. Making huge steps there by talking to the conflict.
Just one question, can you not shout when you are directly next to this gigantic army that wants you dead?
I only now realized the irony of water being used to keep air breathable
Erin said he could use Fire to transmute it so i guess you can chemically separate water into oxygen and hydrogen??? using Fire magic??? or something?????

Oh wait I already said that (most of it), nevermind Cx I’m tired today
However, combat-wise, Kendal can’t really fight underwater. Again: there’s the starfire attack. Agree to disagree, then.
did everyone forget that the wyrm got smote by Alinua?
Okay, so three things:
1) This is not a healthy mindset, Dainix. “I’m going to throw myself into the ocean unless my patron god tells me not to.” This is exactly what Tahraim was trying to avoid. Just as Dainix was beginning to believe he was more than a weapon and he had his own agency, Caliban swoops in and disrupts his character arc in the worst (but most interesting) way. The fourth panel is the funniest panel I have seen in a comic ever.
āGod, if you see anything wrong with this, feel free to fact checkā is REALLY funny. Go dainix
Later… “I meant *probably* survive at the bottom of the ocean. I didn’t think you’d be crazy enough to try it.”
Caliban: “Ha! I was hoping you’d be crazy enough to try it.”
Better not be too angsty..
Bro knows heās got plot armor
oh golly me its dainix
oh golly me its kendal
Oh golly me it’s Tess!
oh golly me its Falst
I really love those last two panels, the pitch black background is not something I remember you doing before but it really establishes how dangerous this is.
tl;dr What’s wrong with one more try?
“Your bones are mostly metal. Can you swim?” is iambic pentameter
Incredible. Thank you for pointing that out ā¤ļø
This plan is so crazy, it could wor–
–no, I’m gonna stick with this plan is crazy.
Okay. The physical contact on this page… Crustables being canon is finally plausible to me. Even if only platonic, the bond between these two is clearly… (weird unexplained squeezing gesture) significant.
What’s the over/under on one of them appearing and saying “yeah that’s stupid”?
I call Caliban showing up to say “don’t forget your fireseed!” and not saying anything about their actual plan.
Tahraim is probably pleased Falst will be venturing under the water. After you have heated the Weapon in the Fire, you need the Quench.
Debating dumb plans and arguing between each other definitely gives d&d party memories.
I see we’re bringing back the “put the boys in a hole” relationship development strategy! This time featuring Dainix and Erin as the boys, and the abyss of ocean as the hole!

I love when high fantasy characters get to the stage where they’re like “Well if my god has a problem with this they can come DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.”
Random thought, does anyone think Erin could make a real person homunculus because he has void magic? I mean, obviously not right now and walter would probably disagree with Erin on making a person…..
Taunting the gods. Bold strategy, Cotton.
he’s such a hero! my boy!!!
Well Iāve finally caught up! And just in time too it seems.
