Also the composition here. First half, red, volcanic stuff, but with stars tying it together with the second half, where there’s no volcanic stuff, but blue Vash light. Gorgeous.
Amazing character analysis and implied cliff diving is an actually brilliant combo. I’d never considered that comparison with Falst but it makes so much sense.
This section describing Vash, and Kendal seeing so much of Vash in Falst actually genuinely made me tear up a little. It’s interesting, everything about Falst casts him as the party rogue- stealthy, dangerous, rough childhood, years spent as a loner, now suddenly in a group. But Falst is determined to fit himself into the role of the Tank, and when he can’t do that, his composure cracks. It’s a really interesting subversion of party dynamics, and I love that.
Look at that Paladin leading the charge into the caves, dual wielding swords in a cool pose.
They’re the main character of their own story; we should all strive for this level of self-confidence.
As sensible and logical as Dainix is making this plan out to be, I still wonder if he has some personal stake in it. He failed to handle the stress from the boat ride and that became the first domino to fall resulting in their current mess; maybe another reason why he’s doing this is to face his fear of the water and conquer it.
Yeah, Falst and Vash do have a lot in common don’t they? Protective, loyal, and even if they can’t beat a threat that comes their way, they’ll still try. I mean, what is a city god but a cat that shows up in your settlement one day, declaring it their own, and before you know it half of everyone’s affairs revolve around them.
If Vash ever gets rescued and a New Vash is founded, I could totally see him making Falst a lord of the city, whether Falst likes it or not.
I am also really worried about how this is going to impact Dainix. Since he hasn’t absorbed the Fireseed shard, I wonder how important that would be for burning underwater. If this works, I really do think this could help with him conquering his thalassophobia. Perhaps then he may tell Erin more about why that started in the first place.
Also, the idea of cat-Vash is hilarious. I approve. Looking through where we can see the People of Vash, the city seems to have been quite welcoming to Ferin from the start.
AWH Falst wants to tank all the damage away from his new family and he doesn’t want them to risk themselves, which is why he raaannn ohhh…. I hope they’ll be okay..
I think they’re both true. False absolutely will put the protection of his friends over his wellbeing every time. That’s why he constantly has broken bones. However when he faces something he doesnt feel like he can control like emotions or a situation where he cant help or change things he runs. Man is fight but if not fight, flight.
I think it’s less that he feels trapped and more that running is the only comping mechanism he has. The way Fast has lived, if something bad happens, you run. It’s the right way to stay alive in that scenario but it means that he doesn’t really know how to deal with a bad situation he can’t change. People he cares about are (in his mind) going to hurt themselves and there’s nothing he can do about it, and that’s REALLY HARD for him, but he doesn’t have a method to cope with it so he does what he always did in a bad situation, he runs.
The tears streaking down Vash’s face are breaking my heart (“I CAN HEAR THEM SCREAMING!”) Which is wildly incongruent to the way the silhouette of our three boys up on the cliff is making me giggle…Charlie’s Angels vibes.

I think Tess meant commitment wise. He’s running from expressing his feelings, cause he doesn’t want to make this as hard on the others as on himself.
