Competitive Pokemon calcs to the rescue!
252 Atk Tsareena Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Camerupt: 247-292 (71.8 – 84.8%) — guaranteed 2HKO
Alinua could definitely deal decent damage to Rakhn.
Well, since Alinua also “evolved” to have water gills, she could be concider a Grass/Water type, thus she should have an advantage over any fire type gods.
What a way to transition. And subtle reminder thrown in there of the hierarchy of things. Alinua, a mortal, my fall firmly below a god in power, but Life, a Primordial, even more firmly does NOT.
The Floof Squad: If Alinua is not with any of us, then… Oh no, is she still at sea? What if she drowns, or gets eaten by that giant seamonster?
Readers: Phht. Don’t even worry about it.
well, i actually came to the site not expecting the comic to already be back but at least now i have like 8 new pages to read and finally solved the mystery of if the uploads are at 3am in my timezone or not
(alternate timeline where Kendal dies and Alinua unleashes her fury on the island) Rakhn: NOOO! My volcanic mountain, Life’s Chosen has broken it! The magma drained, the fireseed shattered, the crowning caldera crumbled! MY FIERY CRUSADE ON WINTER IS RUINED! Zuurith: Oh stop being melodramatic, one simply gets used to it.
I love how, despite not knowing where Alinua is, the gang just know that she’s alive. I mean, Erin already suspects that Alinua may not be able to die, Life’s vessel and all, but this feels more like they know her capabilities and tenacity and are sure she survived because of that.
Oh s**t, I didn’t consider the possibility of the Paladins launching aerial sweeps of the area, but it makes sense; the gang is isolated here, so if Paladin dragon patrol spots them, on the island or an improvised boat, and reports back, it could be all over. Plus, with how volatile Rakhn is, I don’t think a long-term stay on his island is advisable.
I think Alinua’s new allies undersea will be the deciding factor to bypass the Paladins and get to Helm.
And that Paladin threat explains the chapter cover neatly; the Paladin’s magic evoking a searchlight as they scour the sea for our protags. I wonder if Falst’s Light powers, and Dainix’s powers to affect Light, will be brought up and explored this chaper. Erin has said that, without his magic and diplomacy, he can’t do much other than think, and given the nature of the threat, this is a topic worth thinking about.
So do you mean that you think the Paladins are willing to bypass all scruples of international relations, law, and the inherent value of life, in pursuit of their one all-consuming goal, up to and including using a blitzkrieg strategy on an island whose inhabitants form their own distinct, endemic, and unique ethnicity? Or do am I just helplessly biased against the serene bastards?
I’m glad we’re not going without Paladin content for too long. It doesn’t make sense for them to just give up, having found their cosmic nemesis at long last. Plus, it seems that “reporting back” for a Paladin is as easy as thinking. It will be interesting to see how Erin might handle them without any reliable means of defence besides Dainix. Then again, I don’t think we’ll be seeing The Champion anytime soon, and I’m sure the majority of Paladins aren’t as ludicrously powerful as he is.
My prediction is that there will be some sort of standoff, and the gang will get out of dodge while Rakhn erupts, probably with the help of the Northern Wyrm. There’s no way we get off this volcano without it going up in flames.
LMAO! Naw, Dainix and Alinua each have their own populations of resident brain cells. It’s Kendal, Tess, and Falst who ping pong The Brain Cell between each other. And then there’s Erin. Who has ownership of an entire digital encyclopedia but precisely zero brain cells.
At first, I thought Tess was exaggerating, but then I remembered that Alinua literally tore open a mountain back in Zuurith.
They do indeed have a lot of emotional chemistry, it’s not unreasonable to perceive a romantic quality to it, if one perceives romance where there is emotional chemistry and mutual care. Myself I most prefer to see them as friends, given that I myself prefer to be friends with people I have emotional chemistry with.
Anyhow, I don’t think the fandom Red has cultivated does a lot of hating, more critical analysis. You will be critically analyzed far faster than you will be hated
Personally, I see it as a QPR, but given how many other ships have exactly zero explicit romantic scenes but are still considered romantic purely based on the fact that they have emotional chemistry, I can definitely see Kendalinua and would be far more on board with the ship than most ships from other stories.
Fear not for hate or for critical analysis! Personally, I think their dynamic is super cute (especially those few times when they aren’t in danger and can just live), and you would never hear me complaining if they ended up together like that. On the flip side, I don’t think I’d be mad even if they didn’t, because even without romance their interactions are just so wholesome (or so heartwrenching, depending on context) and I always will want to see more of them.
I’ve seen a lot of arguments for and against, but I’m honestly surprised no one has brought up that any relationship involving Kendal will run afoul of the Baby Immortal Teenager problem (what with him having the memories of a god, but the actual lived experience of like. a couple months?)
Oh, I’m sure it’s come up. I’m pretty sure I brought it up a few years ago, back when the “ship” was still new. Personally, I think saying “I ship Kendalinua” is like walking into a petrol station with a lit cigarette, but then who am I to tell anyone what to do?
You can have your own opinion, and interpretation of the book. I personally think that their relationship is that of siblings caring for each other, However, I still can’t decide who is the older more mature sibling. Alinua has just a bit more common sense with Kendal’s recklessness with his body coming from his recent memories as a god. And Kendal’s calm-headed and somewhat stable view of life, as having viewed it with centuries worth of experience.
Falst, my man, you need to STOP assuming your healing factor will take care of everything. Remember when Erin had to put himself in personal danger to heal you from Void corruption?
Watch next page be the imminent catastrophic destruction of said island.
(Probably not actually, considering Kendal is hale and healthy minus some rather inconvenient Flesh Wounds, though there’s a chance the Collector might show up and start messing with the Stone on the island)
Aaand Dainix’s homesickness has been shoved back in a box to be dealt with later. I’m sure the conses won’t quence at all. I’m sure that box of despairing feelings won’t explode later, or need to be processed in a spectacular fashion, or anything. But genuinely, I get why and how he’s doing it. Sometimes compartmentalization is necessary to deal with a crisis, and a crisis does tend to snap a person’s focus away from whatever else is on their mind. I’m still wishing the poor man some hugs and a chance to breathe.
Hmm… This seems like a setup for another Paladin-connected crisis to deal with! Out of the fire and into the other fire, eh?
Was expecting the mention of Alinua to be followed by a panel of a wave gently washing her ashore.
If a paladin did show up wonder what Rakhan would do? Not sure where the Light dragon stands with the other gods. Do the gods know about Void and that Light’s purpose is to keep him contained or would the paladin be considered an unwelcome intrusion into his territory. Inquiring minds want to know.
oh my golly me it’s Dainix
oh my golly me it’s Falst
oh my golly me it’s tess
oh my golly me it’s not Erin yet but it will be soon probably
Oh my golly me it’s Tess
oh my golly me it’s a volcano
same time wednesday?
oh my golly me it’s aurora
Oh my golly it’s me, gay
running away with suspiciously Dainix shaped lump in my throat

Love that this subtly puts Alinua above Rakhn in powerlevel. Kind of.
Grass beats rock. Or ground. Not sure which one a mountain is but grass beats both.
If we’re using Pokémon logic, it would be Ground, since volcanoes tend to have a lot of Ground type Pokémon. Unfortunately, Pokémon *based* off of volcanoes (rather than just living on them) tend to be Fire types, putting Alinua at a disadvantage :/

* The Shadow Northern Worm used Dive
* Alinua’s Color Change transformed her into a Water Type
Rakn is a volcano so rock/fire, neutral to grass.
if she goes full Primordial Trance? Yeah, my money would be on Alinua too.
Love the lighting/shadows on this page!
tess makes an extremely valid point
What a way to transition. And subtle reminder thrown in there of the hierarchy of things. Alinua, a mortal, my fall firmly below a god in power, but Life, a Primordial, even more firmly does NOT.
What a nice Sunday surprise!
Alinua’s already fought two gods and tore open a mountain. What’s one more.
Damn, Tess!
I smell a scene change. We might be cutting to Kendal. If so, then damn, he and Rakhn have been talking for a long time. A good few hours at least.
Rakhn wanted surprises and new things, right? So Kendal’s been catching him up on all the adventures, gossip, and tea.
Yeah, it takes a few hours to read through this whole comic
The Floof Squad: If Alinua is not with any of us, then… Oh no, is she still at sea? What if she drowns, or gets eaten by that giant seamonster?
Readers: Phht. Don’t even worry about it.
The power of plot armour!
Ursa Minor, why should I worry what happens to random sea monsters?!
Btw, this is Discworld Granny Weatherwax reference.
Dramatic irony!
well, i actually came to the site not expecting the comic to already be back but at least now i have like 8 new pages to read and finally solved the mystery of if the uploads are at 3am in my timezone or not
Updates: They’re camped, but no Ali of yet
And the hints are that Kendal killed did not get
I’d personally have went with “…which means Kendal’s not dead, Tess is willing to bet”.
Tess “I don’t do subterfuge, subtletly or indirectness” Ruunaser, how I love you.
And look at all their facial expressions. Look at their adorablitude!
Tessa the ever optimistic (roll eyes) Keep on dancing in whimsy and woe to your foes
She ripped open one mountain before, what’s another?
(alternate timeline where Kendal dies and Alinua unleashes her fury on the island)

Absolutely, yes.

Nice deducing Tess
Their faith in Alinua is terrifying.
Dainix and Tess: regular custodians of the Brain Cell.
I also love that Tess just assumes the local mountain would be shredded if Alinua thought Kendal was dead. (Not sure she’s wrong :p)

It’s elementary, my dear Dainix…
I know I’m going to get a lot of hate but… I ship Kendalunia so much

We’re so close to having The Floof Squad all in the same place again. Then again, Red would never let them get out of this so easily.
Falst, my man, you need to STOP assuming your healing factor will take care of everything. Remember when Erin had to put himself in personal danger to heal you from Void corruption?
dainix and falst taking this a lot better than i thought they would – this is probably normal for tess
Watch next page be the imminent catastrophic destruction of said island.

Well she isnt wrong

Huh, Tess didn’t correct them that Erin could heal Falst… I’m still very nervous about his tattoos healing right…
He can always use a little spellcarving and transmutation to whip up some lacrimas.
I love Tess so much. There is not a single incorrect word that came out of her mouth.
Trust us volcano, anything happens to the demigod the embodiment of life will ensure this rock can no longer be called a rock.
I love that the general assumption is that Alinua would just straight up annihilate anywhere that Kendal died
They get up the top and Kendal and Rakhn are just playing Go Fish
You know, I wouldn’t put it past Red to have some clever variation of that trope to show us!
“If Kendal were dead, Alinua would be up here going John Wick on some motherf-kers”
“Huh?”
Was expecting the mention of Alinua to be followed by a panel of a wave gently washing her ashore.

Feels like multiple members of this party got isekai’d from a world where you get less xp for each time you long rest during your adventure.
