I think our boi Faust has a budding natural connection to the White Dragon :3c
Down was a command given to protect the subordinates, but it was done magically to ensure everyone followed the order regardless of interference mundanely. Faust heard it because of his connection.
I don’t think that was spoken dialog, given Falst’s reaction.
Probably only light-aligned people where supposed to hear that, which Falst is looking more and more like he is.
Well, it’s not the same visual effect as the Hornbearer’s telepathic call on page 2-0-10. I thought the black text in a blue border meant physical speech backed with the Lady’s power, like Tam had, but this one is charging up so it glows.
Could be wrong, certainly.
Falst has some sort of link to or affinity for Light Magic. I think the “DOWN!” was a general “public” communication by either the attacking Paladin or the Light Dragon telling all the other Paladins to duck to avoid getting hit. As a “public” communication, anyone with access/ties to Light magic could hear it, unlike the “private” communications with Tam. That seems the best explanation for who said it, why Falst heard it (and Dainix clearly didn’t, hence getting hit), and why Falst couldn’t hear LD’s and Tam’s conversation during the boat fight. Next up, given the relationship between Light and Void, could Erin hear that communication?
. With a sudden whoosh, the air is filled with blinding mist.
. “It’s him! IT’S HIM!” One of the paladins cries out.
. “Hold! Don’t panic!” Recten snaps.
. “Clear it! NOW!”
. “I thought you said casting Water was safe!” Dainix hisses as Erin collapses against him.
. Erin takes a gasping breath, choking out, “It’s– far safer than the alternatives–! It’s just… not painless–!”
. “Then hold on until you catch your breath!” Erin’s eyes widen in shock, flinching as Dainix scoops him up in a bridal carry.
. “Straight ahead!” Falst calls. “There’s a break in the foliage–!”
. “DOWN.”
“Wha–?!” Falst starts, freezing as the voice rings loud in his mind.
The mist is ripped apart by a spiralling whip of light originating from Recten, tearing through the air, severing trees from their stalks. The other Paladins kneel on the ground below the magic.
“AAAAA=AARGH!” Dainix screams, stick-spear jolting out of his hands as the whip smashes into his back.
Oh shit. Potent Light magic! Falst is tapped into Paladin telepathy! He’s gonna either be learning so many tricks, or he might think he’s a danger to the Floof Squad because if he’s in the group chat, then the Paladins can in turn tap into his mind.
Erin is straining himself heavily from that overchannel, he’s basically a sitting duck.
Them sending telepathic commands makes sense, but Falst *hearing* it?? He’s such a quick thinker, I’ll bet he dodged this attack, and is sure to take as much advantage as he can in the coming pages. I wonder how quickly the paladins will realize that someone on the “enemy’s” side is hooking into the party line. Will that change their actions? They might hesitate to target someone light-aligned. Though, it seems the Light Dragon (probably) has no knowledge of Falst.
How about Dainix transmuting light into void? I assume they’ll assume it’s Erin doing it, which might be a good distraction for him to blast a cave open. If that’s even going to be able to happen anymore.
all mages’ eyes light up with the colour of the element they’re currently casting
i think the paladins were using light-magic based telepathy, and since falst has some light magic thing going on, he was also included in the telepathy -> using light magic -> his eyes lit up
I wonder if the speech bubble talking about foliage is coming falst or one of the paladins. Im guessing Falst, because of the cutoff and direction, but maybe it was one of the paladins saying to block all exits. Also curious about why ‘Down’ resulted in that action. Is down a spell, command or just a message in the telepathic paladin groupchat?
I tink the guy that hit Danix told the other palidans to get ‘down’. And he did that kind of spel cus he coldnt see erin and the gang and was just hoping to hit them. Also we alredy saw that the palidans can comunicate; first and formost whit the Laidy, and whit Theia when the main archavist when she tried to contact her. So i tink this was that and since we know falst has some kind of conection w them he cold hear them.
Methinks Falst accidentally “hacked” into the telepathic network the Paladins use for communication- Recten, as this group’s apparent leader and the strongest of the lot, used that light beam attack to sweep through the fog before landing a clean hit on Dainix, but since Falst has some kind of mysterious affinity with Light (powerful enough to break through Tam’s paralysis diadems from several pages back…), he ALSO heard the warning to get down, and reacted on instinct; I’m betting that Friday’s cliffhanger, or within the next week at the very least, he’ll be jumping the Paladins to give Dainix the time he needs to recover and flee.
Oh my god wait you’re right, the Paladins have been seen using telepathic communication of some kind before and that speech bubble doesn’t have a tail and it’s glowing. It would also explain Falst’s moment of confusion because I’m guessing a voice in your head like that doesn’t really sound like spoken words
As for why Falst is tuned into the wrong broadcast frequency, I have no idea
Hey Falst I know you’re probably going to have a fairly justified crashout about this, but could you save it until AFTER this new information is used to help the party? Thanks
I’ve been wondering that for a long time. It would be so interesting if Falst’s dad joined the paladins while searching to cure his wife’s cave corruption. On 1.21.37, Falst hears someone speaking, before he uses the Light-Claws for the first time. And on 1.15.1, the vision says, “Find Your Way If You’re Truly My Son,” which could mean Dad’s been trying to telepathically link with Falst for quite some time.
Hmm, I wonder if Alinua will somehow feel that Kendal got hurt, and if she does what sort of horrendous retribution her virtually unlimited amounts of life magic would whip out.
Okay, so. Considering that Falst’s dad and the Recten are wearing identical cloaks, gauntlets, pants and boots (1.21.35-36, 2.6.20) I think we can assume that Falst’s dad was a ranking Paladin officer and Falst probably gets his light affinity from him. (Which makes me wonder if Falst remembers his dad being a Paladin… Anyway)
On 1.21.35 Falst says his dad went to get “medicine or healers or…something” which implies that he actually doesn’t know what his dad went to do, just that it was supposed to help his mom. So, what if his mom’s illness was VD related, or at least his dad knew she was turning into a cave crawler, so he went to get some Light dragon-related help? (Pretty irresponsible leaving Falst alone with her, but this is the same guy who may have abandoned his kid right after his mom died if post-knockout powder dreams are to be believed.) And come to think of it, that points to Falst’s theoretical Ancient heritage being on his dad’s side and not his mom’s since Ancients weren’t really susceptible to cave corruption…
Interesting food for thought! And props to Red for planting these things so early.
ya that makes sense. It would be interesting though since we can see Tam killing a cave crawler easily, and if falsts dad was a paladin, he maybe was told by the paladins to put her down for good
I think both of Falst’s parents were Paladins. That would explain why Falst’s mom (I believe her name was Emira if the rune translator people are correct) was in the position to get corrupted in the first place. Also, if both Falst’s parents had a connection to the light dragon, it would explain how Falst may have accidentally gotten a latent one, though it’s still vague as to how the connection is normally forged anyways. Maybe he picked up some habits from his parents in his youth? Maybe they were training him young? Who knows.
So ferrin are closed to the elements, but dark is the exception since they still feel hunger. seems like the inverted dark element can be used by ferrin owo.
Soul barrier? Erin said back when Kendal was in his not-quite-dead coma that life magic can’t help with healing once the soul fixes itself. Since this is magic too, maybe it works the same way? So maybe Danix will get a lot of broken ribs and bruises from the force instead of, like, disintegrated?
judging by the tree trunks I can only assume the armor grade silk poncho is the main thing saving Dainixs’ spine here, and it was pure luck that his ponytail was swished above the attack sparing him from loosing 2/3 of his ponytail.
Really hoping Falst was still up in a tree, above that attack…
Our man can put plot clues together quickly, can’t wait to see how he uses this surprise eavesdropping method to kick major butt!
oh golly me it’s dainix
“oh golly me it’s erin” – the paladins
Oh golly me it’s Falst (with more Light weirdness)
oh golly me it’s blunt-force trauma (I think)
oh golly me it’s Falst experiencing a not-so-nice revelation
oh golly me it’s palladians
WHOA, THAT ATTACK IS SICK!
Also, Falst getting more powers?
I think our boi Faust has a budding natural connection to the White Dragon :3c
Down was a command given to protect the subordinates, but it was done magically to ensure everyone followed the order regardless of interference mundanely. Faust heard it because of his connection.
Fuck I just noticed it cut clear through trees. Ouch
No? Just a Paladin shouting through the fog to their crew..
I don’t think that was spoken dialog, given Falst’s reaction.
Probably only light-aligned people where supposed to hear that, which Falst is looking more and more like he is.

It’s the same effect as the Paladin telepathic communication to Theia in “Downburst” and the interlude, though.

And the action begins…
At least with the lightshow they won’t be too hard to find for a sudden Tess dropkick from the sky.
Early!!! Oh God the whole trio will be in desperate need of healing after this.
Them sending telepathic commands makes sense, but Falst *hearing* it?? He’s such a quick thinker, I’ll bet he dodged this attack, and is sure to take as much advantage as he can in the coming pages. This is definitely going to be the moment where Falst has to save his friends’ butts.
Oh no this does not look good
Anyways, what’s up with Falsts’s eyes in response to the command? I know about all the “Claw” stuff, just very confused
all mages’ eyes light up with the colour of the element they’re currently casting

Got it, thank you!
He’s jacked into their network, which is fascinating.
He’s jacked into their network! fascinating!
lol wtf sorry for the spam
Aurora Question #60: Who so far has had the best looking aesthetic/drip?
In the main cast, or even supporting characters?
everyone
You may not like him, but you can’t deny Tynan had some sick style. Also he was a storm, so he had a lot of drips.
Perfect answer.
Erin.
In the Floof Troop, Dainix. Outside of that, it’s between Shrike and Tarren.
Among named characters, Ilia. There might be some background characters with cool clothes that I dont remember
Tail of the Sept
Light Magic 1, Dainix 0 (please give him a break)

Ohh down as in ‘get down’, that makes way more sense
well thats not good
Nice job, caped bad guy leader.
Very much according to plan.
I don’t think getting Dainix really mad/angry was part of the plan.
Also it’s nice to see Erin NOT carried like a sack of potatoes. (snicker and wipe forehead in relief)
smh, blatant homophobia from the paladins to break up a bridal carry 😔
Flipping the “Days since last bridle carry” sign back to zero
Whoomp, there it is.
I want these paladins to be absolutely DESTROYED by tess or something, this will NOT stand!
The Friday cliffhanger is gonna be crazy for this one
New bridal carry unlocked
Wait, I know it’s been a minute since the Falst light magic stuff, but—
Can he HEAR that???
This is prime game tactics. If you can’t see your opponents, just use AOE attacks.
New bridal carry, someone increase the counter.
@Sylvermage WE CALLED IT!!
Also, was that ‘down’ said in a way only paladins could hear? But Falst could?? The mystery deepens!
Oh my god wait you’re right, the Paladins have been seen using telepathic communication of some kind before and that speech bubble doesn’t have a tail and it’s glowing. THAT CUT THROUGH TREES.
HOW IS HE NOT DEAD
My guess is the wyrmsilk cloak! But yeah!! It demolished local foliage, so still, OW!!

Right, so we know that Kendal has a “don’t kill people” policy.
Guess we now learn if Falst also subscribes to that, because there is no way this didn’t injure Dainix.
Welp, Falst about to do something DIRE
Aw Dainix “scoop”ed Eri- OH MY GOD HE GOT SHOT
judging by the tree trunks I can only assume the armor grade silk poncho is the main thing saving Dainixs’ spine here, and it was pure luck that his ponytail was swished above the attack sparing him from loosing 2/3 of his ponytail.
Caught up quite recently and now I have to wait with the rest of you. 😃🫤😒🥺🥱😴
Really hoping Falst was still up in a tree, above that attack…
