Yay Falst air bubble! I remember quite a while ago in the comic in which he was trying to learn how to make an air bubble with Erin’s lacrima and just congrats Falst, you were right. I can’t find the page…
It was 2.2.15 iirc
2.2.15 and 2.2.16.
Thank you! Here’s the link:
https://comicaurora.com/aurora/2-2-16/
Alt text of that page: “That’s weird, the runes just say “Checkov’s gun”.”
Foreshadowing is a literary device…
Indeed it is…
When I read that part I just shrugged it off- I will never look at that page the same way again.
AND THERE’S THE BUBBLE! SQUEEEEEEEE!!!
Falst is coming in clutch with a lacrima it seems, all according to plan.
Translator’s note: plan means kekaku.

Alt-text: I’m amazed it took us this long to get a proper beam clash going

You, sir/ma’am, are a gorram saint.
tumblr text: MY EYES
. “What–?” The Light Dragon starts, staring in surprise and confusion at the flames now speeding towards his light attack.
. Then the beams collide.
. They burst into a massive fireball, shredding the Champion’s wings and sending him and Kendal flying in opposite directions. The explosion turns the night blue. Falst thrusts out a hand, the functioning air bubble springing to life around him, Alinua, Tess, and Erin.
Who wants to guess what’s going to happen next?
UNDERWATER ADVENTURES!
I’m guessing Kendal will punch a hole straight through the hull or something, then the ship will sink. The others will be relatively safe in the air bubble, Dainix will still be soulfire-ing so he’ll be fine, and the Champion & L.D. will be very confused but go back thinking everyone’s dead. And then the floof squad will have to deal with the GIANT FREAKING SERPENT LURKING UNDERNEATH THE WAVES. THAT IS MAYBE THE COLLECTOR’S.
…Almost to the end of the chapter at least? Maybe? I’m guessing this one will end once everyone ends up underwater
Uhhh… nice to know that Falst got that air bubble working, either with Erin’s help or by figuring it out on his own.
Bluesky Text: hey check out how hard I can parry
Seriously, I am so thankful that Red did this slash-the-beam-away thing instead of fight-progress-bar-made-of-beemz, I hate that trope so much, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, RED!
Chekhov’s Bubble makes a reemergence!
And, what else could go wrong for Michael today? This! He really needs a Steris
Steris Harms/Ladrian? I doubt even she could have planned for this
Steris would have planned for not only this, but would have anticipated Danix using Light magic and a sudden sea monster.
“He needs a Steris” is a statement I never thought I’d read, but it is true nonetheless. I would say that the floof squad has the advantage, as it already has two Sterises (at least): Dainix and Falst. Dainix has his utility belt thing that helped in the super-fun dungeon adventure, and he has memorized quite a few protocols and precautions about dangerous situations. Falst is a Steris because he used the foreshadowing lacrima bubble and because he tends to always have a plan B.
I found my fellow Sanderfans.
We’re called Dougs, and yeah it’s always glad to see one out in the field!
Nice to meet you! Are you emotionally prepared for Stormlight Five today?
wind lacrima for the winnnnnnn les go buddy falst with the save
Chekhov’s bubble
Well, I called it, Red was incredibly relaxed when she drew the comics for Thanksgiving.
Air bubble!
“PARRY THIS YOU FILTHY CASUAL”
*parries it*
“no wait-“
You, sir, are awesome.
I love this XD
I love how many times Michael and the lady are getting surprised this shapter
Aaaand OhtanisorryImeanKendal strikes and it’s a HOOOME RUUUUN!
That “What-?” is just so satisfying. I’m sitting here going “thought you had this one, didya?”
Oh, I am also really thankful something finally wiped the self-assured determination off Michael’s face!
I can practically taste the layers that went into this spectacle. Amazing work.
Ah, another dose of abject confusion of an enemy fighting the gang, I love it. Though I wonder about this in the long term. Before L.D. and the Champion assumed Kendal to be a homunculus or something similar V.D. made; now he’s pulled off an attack that can’t be attributed to V.D.’s machinations, so they’ll have to think again about what Kendal is.
Really, the gang’s just managed to scrape by because of all these unknowns; Kendal’s diadem immunity, his starfire powers, and Dainix’s crucible form. Just as well Alinua’s nature is still secret; I think they’ll need that surprise factor for a hypothetical round 2.
The air bubble from 2-2-16 has made its grand entrance; I guess despite Falst’s flippant comments, Erin did help him figure out the rest of that spell. Did Falst also say that bubble could be used as a cushion? Because, while Kendal’s tough body probably doesn’t “need” it, using it to break Kendal’s fall would likely be appreciated.
Ok, the attack has been blocked, now what will either side do? This proves to L.D. and the Champion long range attacks won’t work, and if they go into short range they have to contend with Dainix and Kendal. Meanwhile the gang have limited long range attacks they could use and will likely be busy trying to get Dainix back in order anyway.
So, it may fall to Nessie below them to break the stalemate. Erin mentioned a few pages back about deep sea creatures and natives don’t like bright light; will this display scare that sea monster off, or provoke them into attacking?
I’m guessing that the sea monster is a chimera of the collector, because it had life magic glow on it and alinua was shown that it’s there (life could have warned her). So it won’t get affected by a light show
Kendal’s body doesn’t need the cushion; the ship’s deck, and lower deck, and hull, however…
Oh look! It’s the Chekov’s Gun that Falst was working on! Is he using it to disperse the shockwave or something?
What a delightful light show! And on my birthday too! 😀
And Falst coming in clutch with the air bubble! What’s not to love?
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! 😀
Happy birthday!
Haaaaaaapy biiiiiirthdaaaaaaaayyy tooooooo yuuuuuuoooooooo!

Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
happy birthday!!!!! (hey its one day after, its close enough)
Blue hits white, a starburst explosion
Of shining, searing trouble.
Down below those on the ship
Are sheltered in Falst’s air bubble.
This was the easiest one I’ve done for a while.
The Lady is shaken as starfire bright
Lethally meets with the tendril of Light
There once was a Paladin nut
Who thought his win was clear-cut.
With resounding “Fwam!”
The two attacks slam.
Stunned, he can only say, “What?”
Aurora Question #24: What are some of your favourite Chekhov’s guns in Aurora (Fired or dormant)?
I liked Chekhov’s dainix crucible form. The subtle cracks and link to caliban pointed to something hiding under the surface
There’s too many for me to choose a favorite but one I’m really interested in is the jewel on Kendal the sword.
He might be able to use an elemental combo. Not sure how you could tell the difference between one spell with two elements and two smaller elemental spells that are combined.
Wrong question, sorry!
Your next question – #25 – made me think of this
Tarren’s “what-happens-if-you-sit-on-a-tornado” thing that I forget what they called it but I remember Red’s comment
im really excited for the sea monster, but a close second is shirke and theia coming to get revenge
I think Theia is the only one for revenge. I don’t exactly know or care aboit Shrike’s plans
It could be read as just Theia going for revenge though it’s definitely unclear but also Shrike is probably at least partly doing this from revenge as for her the prison was kinda important and something of a constant in her life that’s now just gone. Even if something in your life is negative, if it’s a constant it can still wreck someone to have it suddenly gone.
“She’s coming” warning and that ominous scene with the Collector from earlier
Falst’s air bubble coming in clutch!
Sea beastie :3
Aurora Question #25: Bonus question because I keep missing these, do you think Erin could combine multiple magics into unique spells? What could be done with something like that?
1.9.24 beyond that I don’t really know. Maybe he could use the messenger bird spell and then turn it into a bomb? Delayed fireball anyone?
I don’t know, maybe holding back a storm on the sea? In all seriousness though, there are pretty interesting things you can do with command of every element. The first one that pops to mind is redirecting a river with water and earth.
He did that in 1.16.12 / 1.16.27 to temporarily freeze Tynan
He’s done it before. Like @Rai626 said he did it to make snow instead of rain to slow Tynan’s destruction of Zuurith, and he also combined fire and lightning in 1-22-51 and -52 for an effective offensive spell agains the Glort.
And let’s not forget the Skybeam, though that wasn’t a direct attack on anything. But it shows that he’s clearly capable of combining elements for pretty flashy things. That kind of hexa-elemental attack could be really effective, since the enemy would need to be pretty everything-proof to withstand it.
BUBBLE! The crazy lad did it!
When I saw the bubble, my brain immediately thought “Hm… 3, no 4, Erin’s there, + 1 Falling Kendal = 5 floor gang members. Who isn’t shielded here?” and then I remembered. Dainix. The fire in the background is the sixth member.
Dainix is invincible right now
I sure hope you’re right
OH BOY A BIG BLUE BLAST. sure hope it doesnt dive us instantly into the deep depths below!!!
Alliteration!!! 😀
Is that the bubble!!! Falst-1 Erin-0
Parry this you filthy casual!
CHEKOV’S BUBBLE CHEKOV’S BUBBLE
It looks like the laser was trapped or frozen in place or something like that. What does everyone think?
I don’t think so. I get where your getting it from ad the time and scale of it all is very difficult to perceive but to me Kendal from one panel to the next looks noticeably more brightened from the light. Also I highly doubt starfire/starmetal would have that ability. Though I guess it will be revealed in the next page.
We only know what starfire is and not much else
True but starfire is presumably something like actual stars and while we don’t know enough on stars in aurora to make any definitive statements if we look at real stars they’re not really ever frozen. There constantly shifting and changing, so while we can’t say anything for certain I do suspect that it’s not frozen especially since I think Red would try to make it clear if it froze rather than leaving it ambiguous till the next page. But next page is tomorrow so we’ll see soon.
I would be very surprised considering that we understand the scope of these two characters’ abilities reasonably well at this point, and neither possess ice-related or time-related powers. I think Red has just drawn it at the moment of collision, and this being a static image, it seems like it’s frozen in place.
We don’t know anything about starfire and have only basic knowledge on light
We also have no evidence to support the powers you’re suggesting, which are plot-breakingly powerful and completely dependent on your misinterpretation of a still image.
I’m not sure how to address your misunderstanding of what I said
I looks different to me. It looks to me like it’s both colliding with and deflecting the BWEEM, so that the BWEEM is BWEEMing the space between Kendal and its initiating BWEEMpoint.
That’s kind of what I saw.
I’m looking at that explosion and oh my goodness that’s some crazy art right there
also, THE BUBBLE ARRIVED
Poor Michael. Dude has not known what was going on for a single moment in this fight.
Between the beam clash and the “nani-?” this is the most shounen page I’ve seen in any webcomic. Truly a thing of beauty.
It’s very “nani-?”
I love it.
Red did say on Tumblr that in her head she has been calling this “the anime bit”
Micheal thought he was just rocking up to fight one guy (admittedly powerful), he did not realize he was walking into a fight with 6 monsters who are each extremely OP in their own ways. Dude did not know what he was getting into.
Falst, Tess, and Alinua are in the air bubble, Erin is probably with Tess. We know from Tahraim that soulfire can literally burn at the bottom at the ocean, and Dainix mentioned that Kendal doesn’t breathe a chapter ago.
Anyone wanna make bets which direction the Floof Squad is headed next?
di-RECTLY towards that sea monster from some pages ago!
That doesn’t sound very restful…
TL;DR: Epic energy effect duel!
is that. is that explosion a star. or at least something related to a star
OH WHAT A PAGE that’s so PRETTY
Well it’s partly from starfire so kinda? And if it’s true that Lucy is the sun/stars in general well that makes it twice the kinda not exactly star things but close in the explosion. So kinda?
Sorry @TheSnipenieer
You know, emotions aside, I really do like the fact that this page is three views of the exact same moment, zooming outward, and also giving us the critical facts in an order that is both informationally practical and does some really cool things with suspense and relief.
1. Michael, who will be too far away in the other panels, reacting to what’s happening… but we don’t know what exactly that is, yet
2. Kendal disrupting the breath weapon beam with starfire as he falls
3. And it’s Falst with Chekhov’s Bubble, protecting the rest of the crew! Hooray!
Kendal: I said, “No.”
N-Now– alright, I know that SOUNDS bad but– (Lasers)
