Yeah, she did the same thing before chapter 7; she jumped the gun a week early and ended up posting two ‘chapter (n) begins Monday’ notes. Don’t know why she does that
Exactly, she said that “A short interlude begins Monday!” on Twitter, so same as last chapter;
One reason, looking at the metadata for chapter 6, might be that she drew, uploaded on the website and scheduled for release the first 24 pages, and then made extra the panels for the Tess minisode without changing the description text for the old page…
When I was reading Dracula, I was like “What is Red talking about? They’re not really leaving Mina out on much.” Then I got to the part where I could not get through a SINGLE QUIZNAKING DOCUMENT without at least one guy going “Mina is looking so *pale* and *unwell* lately… it *must* be because we’re keeping secrets from her. I’m still so glad we’re keeping secrets from her, it’s *wonderful* to know we’re doing the right thing.”
Is ship these two because they are so adorable together! Yet, I wonder…do you guys think that Kendal will ever get mature enough for such an interaction? If they succeed, Kendal won’t exist anymore, right? It’ll just be Vash all over again! I don’t think the ship would work now that I think of it, but those two are too cute and perfect material for shipping. :3
I doubt they’d let Kendal just die and be replaced by Vash. My theories are either that Vash is dead or that he’ll make himself a new body and leave Kendal to live out his life with his friends
I was practicing my cursive handwriting (as I do) with the maxim ‘Wisdom is better than riches’ (supplied by my old copybook) and realized halfway through that on the previous line I wrote ‘Walter’ instead of Wisdom. That’s it.
Dude that is hilarious. Well, I have my own anecdote…
I failed my finals today. (Kinda…76 in Life Science, the subject which I most love)I’m just missing the History test and I’m done with school. Here I go 8th grade lol
P.S. You have no idea how much enjoyment I got out of being called ‘lady’. It’s usually ‘child’ because of my size (even though I just finished 10th grade), which I also like, but still. Thank you for that.
Thanks for the “congrats/condolences”. Also, that pun of yours on the last page is beautiful. And you do deserve “lady” coming from me because your older and now that you mentioned it, you are basically done with school! (Lucky you)
Why thank you! I’m not sure how much older than you I am, since I’m a bit ahead on school, but semantics. I’m glad you appreciate the pun, it’s oddly specific and I wasn’t sure how good it was. 🙂
In the moments when they try to get serious, they still knock a laugh or two out of me. (I love those beautiful floof balls).
Hey but a question….anyone wondering whatever happened to the golden lightning lady?
I think they do have a sense of self-preservation, it just works differently than most everyone else. Where everyone else is run away from danger, there’s is run into danger and come out still alive while also preserving everyone else as well. You know, they got the Hero’s model of self+everyone-preservation module, not the common self-preservation module.
In the new Chapter page, the Collector’s eyes are glowing green, like Life magic green. Like, she’s a life mage green. And she’s a Chimera Mom. What if she was affected by the Chimeric Plague, or someone who was suffering from it. What if that is why she’s so old.
Only one person at a time could be affected by the Chimeric Plague, and if she had been mutated by someone who had it, she likely would’ve lost her sanity, her memories, possibly even her life. The glow on the chapter cover is probably just embellishment
Some people may have said this before, but I just laid this out for myself and I can’t believe I just now got the connection between chimeric carriers and Life. As Logi said earlier, Life likely can’t really die (since it’s Life), and we can reasonably assume it’s still alive in some form of consciousness since we’ve seen it interact with, and speak to Alinua. It’s also stated in the Chimeric Plague lore document that’s there’s only ever one chimeric carrier at a time, but of course also that they die at a young age. Now Erin seems to think that Alinua “survived” the chimeric plague, but I would posit the following, also due to the imagery when Alinua gained control over her powers and VD calling her “Life’s vessel”:
The Chimeric Plague was Life trying to get a vessel/agent, like VD has in Erin. However, because of being ‘dead’ for so long and not having dealt with mortals like VD has, it was difficult for them to find someone who could do it without elemental corruption (“wherein a high density of raw elemental energy can overwhelm the soul’s resistance and seep into their being, causing the element present in their body to react randomly, inducing illness”). As said in the “magic” section of the extra lore, mages’ souls contain openings through “which a specific elemental energy is permitted to flow”. Similarly “A stone mage calls the essence of primordial stone into themselves”.
What I think happened when Alinua gained control, was that she pulled enough of Life’s essence into herself that Life was able and sound enough of mind (I posit that, like gods, primordials have a greater clarity of mind when incarnating) to modify Alinua (given the rebirth imagery) so that she could actually hold Life, or at least enough for Life’s purposes, much like Kendall was before Vash was collected.
Based on that fact i’m inclined to believe that the other primordials would be trying the same thing, since they know that VD/Walter is going to try something. I get that it’s more plausible for life since they can’t really die, but if the others can than it wouldn’t put it past them to do so. Maybe Alinua’s role as Life’s ‘Avatar’ so to speak, is only a precursor for the next primordial to come back.
Also, based on some of Red’s sketches, i think we have in store a possible one on one dream talk session between Life and Alinua. But if I had to guess, then i’d say metal lady is going to be related to the Lighting primorial in some way, based on how they used magic, their scar, and the fact that metal is a great conductor for electricity.
either way, i’m excited to see what happens next. And since i’m reading this at school, it took all my self control not to laugh my butt off at that last panel XD
Ok that’s one lore dump out of the way, or at least the main points said. Still have the info Erin learned on Alinua being Life’s vessel and Kendal’s predicament to come to light; maybe put some distance between them and the caves first though.
Everyone’s in the right here, they now know who their new enemy is, Erin is far too dangerous to be left alone and these two tend to rush into danger (especially with Kendal calling the shots).
TL;DR: Nerd flood relays Walter’s exposition dumps, while the rest of the floofcrew goes full silver lining on it. Corpse floof is way too confident in his extended warranty.
Alternate TL:DR: Possessed Floof explains his possession needs more then just your average exorcism, explaining Dark Floof is now Void Floof and a WingedDangerNoodle™️ and is the REAL BBEG, not Chimera Mom. Sword Floof doesn’t care as he doesn’t understand the definition of “common sense.” Lifey Floof wants to know why Void Floof recognizes her, I mean she changed her name and moved away so she wouldn’t be recognized by anyone she went to highschool with. She also agrees with Sword Floof’s idea of not caring, apparently taking Pikachu Floof’s advice from a future chapter about how “The dumbest thing you can do is leave Erin(Possessed Floof) alone unsupervised.” Possessed Floof is shocked by how the protagonists are being protagonists.
Aha, yes! I finally caught up with the comic and there’s been both enough distance and time between that and the end of this Erin-intro arc that I can come back and offer some critique despite knowing it can’t change anything that’s already been written/posted because I’m useless that way!
Ah, so for me, this chapter with the Void Dragon felt too soon. In only the previous chapter, it was established that Erin got possessed by some powerful dark force in a block at the center of the storm in a ruin that seems to have a connection to something in the origin prologue and is fearful of the power Aliuna is connected to. It’s also established that he may lose control again at any point in the future and he’s a brand new member added to the group, so especially now that there are Magic Number 3 characters in a group, we have the potential for some interesting new character dialogues and interactions, a powerful mystery antagonist, and the plot potential of the character playing host to said antagonist becoming a weapon against his new companions. We knew that Shadow Death Mystery Antagonist was eventually going to come out and take over Erin again. The setup was just too perfect not too, but I was shocked it happened in literally the next chapter.
It wasn’t even a minor takeover, but the kind of takeover I’d expect further along closer to the end of the story maybe right before the Darkest Hour because this isn’t just any malevolent shadow being, but THE apocalypse bringer, the world eater, the Jormungander, the Trigon. This is a top tier god-like villain yet he gets his big reveal and info dump on both his history and future plans before the protagonists even know anything about the Collector’s plans, so it takes away the mystery and removes some narrative tension since we won’t be expecting the Void Dragon to show up again soon. I also feel that Erin’s big moment of trying to sacrifice himself to prevent the Void Dragon from succeeding despite the Void Dragon’s play at his ego and pride would have had much more impact if it had happened later in the story after he’d been with the group for a while and us, the readers, got to see more of his self-important behavior (ideally, I think I would have liked to see more of him before he entered the storm so we could see him pre-first-possession too at the height of his arrogance because I’m kind of a sucker for seeing these high-and-mighty type characters being humbled and then learning to tone down and be much more decent people), so that it REALLY IS a big awesome deal when he makes the selfless choice to stop the Void Dragon.
Idk those are my thoughts on that particular section. All the other arcs so far have been great. Love what you’re doing, keep it up! And of course, your art is as uniquely gorgeous as always! ^^
Well seeing as how there is a plot point about Erin karening on a poor archivest so he can learn more about the dragon, they couldn’t put it off tooo long. That and Erin knew that it was the dragon before the dragon revealed itself, he was just to scared to admit it without voidy actually telling him. It’s like how Cornelius Fudge REFUSES to admit Voldemort’s back because that would cause ALOT of mayhem, and he didn’t want to deal with that. Only when he actually SEES Voldemort does he admit he’s back. Erin new the truth but didn’t want to admit it out of fear. Lastly, the “Act of Selflessness” Erin does in the caves is actually in character with the “Petty, Self Impertinent” person he is. He isn’t being selfless, he is going to die anyway, he is dragging the Dragon down with him. It’s not a “heroic sacrifice” it’s a “F you dragon.” He is all “You ain’t gonna use me” not “I’ll sacrifice to stop you.” He outright states this, calling himself “petty.” You can tell with the “nothing to lose” line, he is desperate.
So im on my first read thanks to loving Red and Blue on youtube and Red FINALLY giving us a link, I didnt even know this existed! lol
I have a sneaking suspicion that I hope is true based on Reds knowledge. I think Kendal is now the equivalent of a Ta’avern from the Wheel of Time, or in other words, he is a focus of fate now. This world is clearly on the edge of super death from multiple directions, I think he will be a natural pull on all of the people that can help, also handily explaining why he always seems to stumble into things he can help with in his natural puppy like manner.
This is delightful. Just three weirdos who are all immensely powerful in different ways, brought together by the fact that each of them individually could apocalyptically ruin someone’s day if not supervised. And then later there’s a cat boy.
OH MY GOSH! This is hands down my favorite chapter, Erin is my favorite character (even though I love them all) and voidy is officially a charismaniac/magnificent bastard because he’s so maliciously lovable? I could re-read this chapter so many times (and I have) I just love Erin’s nearly self sacrificing moment so much! It’s just so bad-a**, it makes me like him so much more, it shows that he was able to process exactly how dire the situation was and act on it, even though he knows that means deffinet death, it’s just so cool!
“Ohhhh I’m apocalyptically DANGEROUS so you guys should totally LEAVE ME UNSUPERVISED.” As Erin’s mother has put it: “There is nothing more stupid than leaving Erin unsupervised.”
Good old lack of sense of preservation! Gets me every time.
“Silly me! im still so rattled, i forgot neither of you have any sense of self-preservation”
omg i love erin hes the best
The magus we know and love is back! 😀
Yes! The Pompous Nitwit I know and love!
*glares at my Erin paper doll* “You don’t have to look so smug!”
You have a Erin paper doll?!! Gimme a sec I’m gonna go make my own Erin doll now, preferably with a smug expression or something
He’s best boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-
bro who the heck DOESN’T think erin is the best?
But which Monday, Red? ?
The Archive says June 15th, so Monday in 2 weeks.
Yeah, she did the same thing before chapter 7; she jumped the gun a week early and ended up posting two ‘chapter (n) begins Monday’ notes. Don’t know why she does that
Exactly, she said that “A short interlude begins Monday!” on Twitter, so same as last chapter;

Or maybe she just likes to troll us all 😛
If it’s not in two days, I will be Very Dissapointed
But, in all seriousness, take your time if you need it Red. You’re amazing and we all appreciate you very much
Kendal and Alinua have no self preservation because they know that if they fall, their floof will just bounce them back up
This is true
(this is just a dumb joke comment lols)
Alinua smiling at Erin on the second to last panel is officially the sweetest thing I’ve seen today.
a serious erin? NO
a self sacrifising erin? NO
a overfully full of himself sick tats mc hubris? …YESS
I feel like there’s two sides to Erin, kinda like that doctor in Dracula, but instead of the serious face, it’s hubris, and semi-hubris.
yea, Van helsing serious face!
*ominous bass drum*
When I was reading Dracula, I was like “What is Red talking about? They’re not really leaving Mina out on much.” Then I got to the part where I could not get through a SINGLE QUIZNAKING DOCUMENT without at least one guy going “Mina is looking so *pale* and *unwell* lately… it *must* be because we’re keeping secrets from her. I’m still so glad we’re keeping secrets from her, it’s *wonderful* to know we’re doing the right thing.”
Well, he’s not wrong about them.
TFW you forget that hair quantity is inversely proportional to survival instinct
The page for the seventh element is no longer password protected!
I love how it’s Erin’s paper. Hey, he’s been getting a lot of material for a follow-up paper…
Look at that cute reashuring smile she gives him in the second to last panel, this is too adorable!!!???
Enter the shippers.
Actually, the only prolific shipper I remember here is Pinewing, and if I remember correctly, they’re solidly in the Kendal x Alinua camp
Sadly, I believe Red has confirmed on Twitter that Kendall is asexual
I’m a KendallxAlinua shipper too
Awesome Chapter, awesome Art, awesome Characters, awww-somly adorable … is there any downside to this comic?
That a rethorical question!
Kendal: Self-preservation? Isn’t that the same as common sense?
Erin: “…I guess? Kind of? In a way?”
Kendal: “Then I might not know what it means.”
Mood
I just realized this is a direct callback. Bravo.
Suprising that TheUnknownGame hasn’t shown up yet. Walter? You all right?
I am, I just slept in
Well hello there. I have an anecdote.
I was practicing my cursive handwriting (as I do) with the maxim ‘Wisdom is better than riches’ (supplied by my old copybook) and realized halfway through that on the previous line I wrote ‘Walter’ instead of Wisdom. That’s it.

Yes please!!!
Here you go!

I love all three of these dorks! They’re all so full of personality and charm
In the moments when they try to get serious, they still knock a laugh or two out of me. (I love those beautiful floof balls).
Hey but a question….anyone wondering whatever happened to the golden lightning lady?
Presumably, shes still in the wasteland yelling “What” really loudly at Erins recent outburst that caused the death of the one-story campsite
That or she’s finally claimed her chunk of wasteland : )
ERIN’S FACE IN THE FIRST PANEL UWU
I’m still waiting on Erin to find out Kendal is the god-body
Erin,,,, These babys will leave you alone when you’re DEAD
on second thought, probably not even then
now that Erin is part of the best friends squad, its only a matter of time before his hair does the big floof
Bold of you to imply that Erin’s hair isn’t already floofy
I think they do have a sense of self-preservation, it just works differently than most everyone else. God, she really is a mystery isn’t she? We even know more about Walter/VD than her!
well, VD did spend 3 weeks monologuing, so…
I can’t decide if it’s better to read this as an exasperated tone or a matter-of-fact tone and that’s fine by me.
With friends like these, who needs a sense of self-preservation?
Silly Erin, they do have self-preservation. They just know they depend on *the continued existence of EXISTENCE* to continue to exist.
Some people may have said this before, but I just laid this out for myself and I can’t believe I just now got the connection between chimeric carriers and Life. What’s her deal anyway? Did the storm and leave and she just thought to herself “Imma wrestle a dragon”
Erin’s “uniquely potent talent” but not also his good looks, unmatched intelligence, winning personality and minty fresh breath?
Ok that’s one lore dump out of the way, or at least the main points said. Still have the info Erin learned on Alinua being Life’s vessel and Kendal’s predicament to come to light; maybe put some distance between them and the caves first though.

Who needs a sense of self-preservation when you’re a protagonist?
I don’t know if it will happen, but I would love a physical copy of this!
(Void Dragon > The Collector) OK, got it
This is delightful. Just three weirdos who are all immensely powerful in different ways, brought together by the fact that each of them individually could apocalyptically ruin someone’s day if not supervised. And then later there’s a cat boy.
HAHAhaha the last panel!
they’re the protagonists.
they aren’t allowed self-preservation.
This is truly excellent. Just the kind of fun, not-angsty fantasy I needed.
OH MY GOSH! I love these 3 so much

The world will end if He goes on
So they must help him, is their con
The last panel makes an excellent meme!
“Ohhhh I’m apocalyptically DANGEROUS so you guys should totally LEAVE ME UNSUPERVISED.” As Erin’s mother has put it: “There is nothing more stupid than leaving Erin unsupervised.”
