Do I ship? Or do I posit that this is simply platonic cuddles, and that as such they are just as cute, and not everything had to be about romance. Aaahhh! Such a hard choice!
Looking at the background material, it looks like it’s leaning into Shintoism (spelling?). Everything having its own spirit, with some of them becoming powerful enough to become gods. Also, the magical system looks a bit Japanese, and feels a bit more baked-in, not bolted on. Would love to yoink it for a GURPS campaign, but I don’t think I could do it justice.

That is a very powerful quote and really drives home that characters and people should be and are more than what’s happened in their past.
Also, “I’ve never met my birth parents and probably never will.” If only for the sake of drama I wouldn’t bet on that second statement being true.
TL;DR: Floofy girl explains to Floofy boi how people work and why knowing your buddies’ whole backstory isn’t necessary. She also explains the Mortal TM alternative of talking to them.

Unpopular opinion, but I’m mildly anti-shipping these two bc their friendship is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my (media) life. Although I think if anyone can make their characters have a relationship that’s beautiful and sweet and kind and loving and doesn’t erase who the characters were when they were single, I think Red can. I wouldn’t be disappointed if they ended up together bc she would write it sooooo well. But I would LOVE it if they just stayed Best Friends Forever!!!
