Don’t flashback till you see the whites of its eyes.
Ok, the psychic damage is real, see Dainix trembling in panel 2, but short lived; whether that’s because Dainix is strong or he was pulled away in time, I’m not sure. If it’s the later, doing it for Falst may be difficult since he’s being pulled into the slime.
Oh great, the blob is screaming again. Falst doesn’t seem to be doing much damage, but it, or the lifeforms it’s absorbed, seem to feel pain. Combined with the mind scrying powers, this blob seems to be made of suffering, for itself and others. Hopefully the gang can kill it, if only to put it out of it’s misery, like what Alinua did to the chimera bear in 1-8-18.
I get the feeling Falst will be exposed to the eyes soon. Now, will the backstory flashes match what he told Dainix, will they be different indicating he lied somewhere, or will it reveal something he may have deliberately left out of his story?
I was thinking the same thing – that maybe Falst lied about part of his backstory – especially after that Trope Talk about unreliable narrators and Red’s (reported) comments about everyone making some assumptions that are going to turn out to be knife-twistingly wrong. The worst thing I can think of is that Falst’s dad actually never came back, and Falst was forced to kill his own mother in order to survive. Honestly, when Falst said his dad left to find…something, I wasn’t expecting to ever see the guy come back again.
Falst did make a comment along the lines of “people die, people leave, it doesn’t mean anything” So assuming he is talking about his parents, his dad leaving to get the milk would line up.
“Splurk” is… a new favourite.
I’m just going back several pages, then forwards again, reading and rereading, because it’s so compelling and I just want more of it. And there’s always something to discover that is new, or, to rediscover.
Also that oily shimmery gloop screaming is contending for “top scary thing in this comic” right now.
Yes, well, I didn’t want to be presumptuous… But after today’s (Friday) page, uh, I think it’s between that gloop and the Collector, and not even Voidy comes more than third.
*in tears* Holy crap can we please go back to Walter being the scariest thing in this comic? Please?!
Would happily return to imutable apocalyptic threat over forcibly facing my inner demons please and thank you very much!
(in all seriousness, Red, you have leveraged a whole new level of a very personal kind of fear, and for that i commend you)
Walter is the Void Dragon. It’s apparently a reference to a poll somewhere, that was done early on, after Erin got the worst tattoo of his life, but before VD (another acceptable nickname) introduced himself as Void Dragon
I’m feeling like if we are ever going to get any information about this thing it is probably going to come from Erin. I do not want to wait for Erin, but I think the Crustables gang is too busy fighting for their lives to manage to analyse the blob in peace.
This could easily be very bad if Falst does end up looking it in the eye, because even though Dainix doesn’t exactly have a happy backstory, Falst’s (so far) seems to be worse. Either way, as @Evil Tree suggested, we’ll probably get some more info soon and I’m looking forward to more Falst lore! My poor little guy, what has Red done to you
The tactical use for bangs. No eye contact.
Yes, I know the rule is Falst can’t look at it, but just let me pretend he has some kind of advantage here.
I’m not entirely convinced that Dainix is in the clear because that trace of slime on his face concerns me and we have no proof that there AREN’T worse consequences to whatever that thing did. In fact, given that Falst already had his turn to suffer and we’re now focusing on Dainix suffering, and that Red put too much attention to detail on Dainix taking psychic damage for it to not have worse consequences, it narratively makes the most sense to continue making Dainix suffer.
Now, my list of possible guesses for how Dainix will end up suffering in additional ways:
A. The slime will try to infect or consume Dainix somehow
B. This chain of events results in Falst having to bring Dainix back to himself, possibly a fight
C. Dainix will end up taking MORE psychic damage, which will knock him out or otherwise incapacitate him
D. The psychic damage has an additional effect that isn’t immediately apparent
I’m going with A or D. Dainix has already had an “I know you’re in there somewhere” fight, and the dynamic between the two is so excellent that it would be a problem to let either of them be unconscious for very long.
Hey, I’m back! I had a great time, but I honestly was not expecting an amorphous blob to appear. Can we name it Jeff? I feel like that’s a good name for it, if the terrifying primordial embodiment of hunger and emptiness is going to be Walter.
Name it any way you want @Aspiring. The trick is having it referred by other commentors and accept it. It does have a condescending and sarcastic feel worthy of villainy in Aurora commentary, at least! (smile) And giving such a name makes the problem easier to think is a less terrifying and more manageable way to think about it, the easier to fight and observe said threat.
So! i found this via tumblr this morning and have spent the last..frick 7 hours binging this masterpiece
(mostly bc i saw an art post show up on my dash and went ‘i know that art style, but from where?’ ended up here to realize that i’ve followed OSP for legit.. over 5+ years now? tbh i don’t remember anymore but i some how missed this was a thing??)
anyway i shall now await tomorrow. and go look at the other lore pages now
For mobile readers.

OH! I just realized the first panel last page was from Dainix’ point of view! That makes so much more sense now!
I didn’t realize until you said that, thank you!
I just thought his face was covered in Dark Chuchu jelly
Falst says he’ll fight it, just get them out
“Don’t look at it’s eyes!” Dainix does shout
the pose in the last panel is so fluid!
Andddd, the gloop amalgamation is still screaming 0-0
if rotarysupercollider is here: do you think splurk is as good as glort
sentences that are completely incomprehensible to most people
my favorite kind of sentence

falst said that his dad left to try and find something to help his mom, medicine, or a doctor or some such.
*sighs deeply*
that’s six for picking up/yoinking the other guy out of danger
Thank you for keeping track @noodle!

What do you mean contending???
Yes, well, I didn’t want to be presumptuous… But after today’s (Friday) page, uh, I think it’s between that gloop and the Collector, and not even Voidy comes more than third.

Who is Walter again? I didn’t see him in the charecters section. Am I missing a refrence?
Walter is a fan nickname for the Void Dragon
Walter is the Void Dragon. It’s apparently a reference to a poll somewhere, that was done early on, after Erin got the worst tattoo of his life, but before VD (another acceptable nickname) introduced himself as Void Dragon
‘Walter’ is used to belittle and cut down Voidy’s self-importance and arrogance. Void Dragon is villain that’s acceptable to boo. (smile)
I feel like it’s only going to get worse once we figure out what the heck this thing is… and how it was made…
Does it even *have* eyes? I thought that was Dainix’s in the last page, just like, goop-magicked
That’s an eye that opened on the palm of the creature’s hand. It’s from Dainix’s POV
I get the feeling that hitting it may not be the optimal strategy for fighting this thing
I was thinking barehanded is not the way to go when fighting goop that looks toxic/radioactive & alive.
I’m feeling like if we are ever going to get any information about this thing it is probably going to come from Erin. I do not want to wait for Erin, but I think the Crustables gang is too busy fighting for their lives to manage to analyse the blob in peace.
And yes, I am craving deeper blob lore.
TINY MOUTH TINY MOUTH

Uh, Dainix? You’ve got a little monstrous nightmare goop on your cheek there. Just thought you’d want to know…
Yeah, I think that slime will cause problems because Red wouldn’t drawn attention to it if it weren’t important
I am still waiting for the message borb to drop in on the boys. The suspense is giving me chest pains! (thump THUMP! thump THUMP!)
Well, not looking into it’s eyes should be easy, since it doesn’t seem to have any right now.
Is it just me or does Falst feel like Sun Wukong?
What could possibly go wrong?
Hey, I’m back! I had a great time, but I honestly was not expecting an amorphous blob to appear. Can we name it Jeff? I feel like that’s a good name for it, if the terrifying primordial embodiment of hunger and emptiness is going to be Walter.

it is now “Jeff.”
It is now named “Jeff.”

TL;DR: The cat got a new scratching post.
THAT THING HAS EYES?!
