A somewhat more questionable method of bonding. I’m sure nothing bad will come out of this. Like certified badboy loner deciding everyone is better off without him. Noooope. It’s aaaall good.
I agree. They’re all such GREAT characters, but I think Dainix is the one that has struck me as the most GOOD character. He’s patient, forgiving, and very compassionate, perhaps even more so than Kendal, who’s goodness largely comes from his childlike naivete. And as much as I like the rest of the squad, we’ve seen their limits already:
Erin is good, but far less so, being most interested in his own problems (you know what, fair). You could also argue that his plan to destroy thr Void Dragon rather than study it could be construed as ultimately good. But he’s also prideful and vindictive.
Tess is good, but lacks respect for law (also fair) but she had no problem trespassing, destroying property, or even injurying people back in Zuurith (Shrike wouldn’t have been after her in the first place had she not broken the law multiple times in one day)
Alinua is very good, but she also has a strong sense of self-preservation, and is less willing to put other’s lives ahead of her own (consider Erin’s first meeting with Kendal and Alinua). However, she can be pretty easily persuaded
Falst is good, in his way. He’s moody, antisocial, and probably the most inclined towards violence. But he has good intentions.
Still, I’d be remiss not to mention how Dainix basically betrayed Kendal’s trust and tried to kill him in the Arena but SINCE THEN he’s been my favourite character and the goodest of boys.
also, he’s using the same cloth for both of their wounds, right? like it get he doesnt have much medicine but that CANT be sanitary (though it is rather symbolic i suppose)
I don’t think so. Dainix is asking Falst to hold his own cloth, while he applies a clean one to his own shoulder, but Red has ‘cut’ that shot out for the sake of brevity. When he takes his right hand away from the cloth, it’s empty, and then it’s his left hand that slaps one on his shoulder.
It’s ok to have a favourite arm to torture Red; Akira Toriyama, for example, always seems to have it out for left arms.
Just look at Falst and how his poses, facial expressions, and body shaking does the talking; pain induced panic, slow clarity, sudden realisation, then shame and guilt of his actions. I love how Red makes Falst communicate so much without saying a word.
Dainix, for his part, is in pain, but doesn’t appear to hold a grudge. After their fight against the cave crawlers and getting a snipper of Falst’s past, Dainix probably expected something like this. Alinua and Erin can’t come soon enough for these two.
Do we know if Red is left-handed or right-handed? Cos if she’s right-handed, she might just be projecting the agony and exhaustion of her drawing arm onto these characters, and that’s… pretty reasonable.
hope this experience prompts falst’s Character development. the hashtag hypervigilance lashing out trauma response isnt his fault but buddy not in the shoulder
I just had a realisation about why this page felt so… something. Something in a good way somehow. Upon typing this comment I have realised I don’t really wanna share the experience it reminded me of, but man, Dainix in the fourth panel. Yeahh take a breather, dude. I know that face.
Falst too. He must feel even more horrible. Sit down, sob a little, boys.
Dunno, he’s got the set of darker old scars, he’s got a lighter old scar right below that set, and now he has the fresh claw marks. Though the light mark might’ve been left by something other than claws, I don’t know. ^_^;;
“Do I have a vendetta against right shoulders or something?”
Me, the reader who has dislocated her shoulder several times due to hypermobility: *nervous sweating*
There once was a guy with a scar
Who’s the most forbearing, by far.
Even though he was scratched
By the cat he’d patched
This incident their friendship won’t mar.
Have I mentioned how much I love these two? And I totally agree with Ell and veggiesnake about Dainix.
Honestly, I think that Dainix did think this was going to happen and that’s why he took a moment before he applied the kitridine. It just really hurts.
the way Dainix just calmly continues first aid despite receiving a significant wound. I can’t articulate it, but there’s something so patient and tender there and it makes me want to cry
This is untrue. Ferin are resistant to magic the same way that they’re resistant to broken bones. They’re just a lot tougher than most people. Plus, Life Magic is already pretty unique in that it can breach the soul matrix, and we’ve seen Alinua fully heal Falst before, so there’s really no reason why she wouldn’t be able to heal him here.
That IS a good question. It… doesn’t seem to be unlimited at any rate, we’ve seen him transform & it didn’t bring his missing eye back or anything. Then again, Tahraim did say “guilt burned out [his] eye”, so maybe there’s magic reason for that?
I‘m not certain about this, but wasn’t Dainix pretty banged up after he transformed into the fire-thingey for the first time? Maybe injurys transfer over.
Tsk! Don’t you recall Dainix is a noble and thoughtful soul? He is taking kithridine to spare Falst from breathing “bad air” (burn up all oxygen seems too unfantasy-like for my taste) and perhaps set a good example for falst (or show off how tough Dainix is?)
Response to Red’s comment on 1.21.31: No, Red, I respectfully think you like showing off how tough your characters are and not afraid to put up empathic commenters (such as myself) and you are not going to leave in that state forever and you like “da bois” as you love them like most (I dare type all) your characters, who are up for any action in your story- Aurora.
I choose to interpret all of the shoulder injuries as a veiled DBZ/Vegeta reference. (Vegeta is famous for holding his right arm when he is getting beaten in a fight).
So I may be way behind the 8- ball here, but what if the systems recognize Falst as an Ancient because he has no connection to the element winds? Erin mentions that Ferin are magically inert, as were the Ancients, so what if that’s what the scanners are looking for?
Oh, I can feel ALL the emotions on this page.
Falst’s immediate guilt and probably self-loathing, Dainix’s not wanting to show how much pain he’s in (thinking it’ll hurt Falst more)… you people better have an actual conversation about this because I swear-
Definetly not someone who lost their arm fighting cave zombies
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: a fun emotional wound to add to the physical ones
Falst’s gonna feel bad about that for a while. Oh, the angst…
ohnoohnoohnoohnoohno
the boys are emotionally and physically damagedddd
jesus CHRIST they need hugs and actual medical attention
Oh that can’t bode well
Pain. Agony, even.
the expressions on this page are SPOT on, great job (it hurts me immensely)
A somewhat more questionable method of bonding. I’m sure nothing bad will come out of this. Like certified badboy loner deciding everyone is better off without him. Noooope. It’s aaaall good.
Damn, though. Dainix is such a great character.
Well, they both are. Well, all the characters in the entire comic are.
….I just really love this comic…

So many goodest of characters, really!
And I agree with your thoughts on them. Good, but in interesting and different ways.
also, he’s using the same cloth for both of their wounds, right? like it get he doesnt have much medicine but that CANT be sanitary (though it is rather symbolic i suppose)
I don’t think so. He’s asking Falst to hold it
To me it looks Dainix has already dressed Falst’s arm before using the medicine on himself.
One injury is now sterile and clean
Another must face the kithridine
That’s really good. Nicely done
You too!
There are few things that make me ashamed faster than the feeling that someone I care about is being patient with me.
Oh boy… you really want them to fall apart entirely down here, huh?
ooooowwwww
ooooowwwwwwwww
Damn, Dainix is taking this very well
He hasn’t freaked out like Falst did at least.
The only positive outcome of this is cool scars. I really hope the others find them soon…

I think she’s left handed so no, though it could be her bias showing towards the left hand

Falst too. He must feel even more horrible. Sit down, sob a little, boys.
So now he has three claw mark scars on that one shoulder. Lucky him.
Guess who can’t count
Dunno, he’s got the set of darker old scars, he’s got a lighter old scar right below that set, and now he has the fresh claw marks. Though the light mark might’ve been left by something other than claws, I don’t know. ^_^;;
He stripey. Ignans’re stripey!
It’s funny how the human is stripey but the literal cat person isn’t
Well, if you play too rough with the kitty, you’re gonna get scratched….
“Do I have a vendetta against right shoulders or something?”
Me, the reader who has dislocated her shoulder several times due to hypermobility: *nervous sweating*
Specifically your right shoulder?

Just for the record, your poems are amazing.
The Nick fury experience
I mean what in your experience with Falst would lead you to believe this WOULDN’T be his reflex to waking up in extreme pain?
Honestly, I think that Dainix did think this was going to happen and that’s why he took a moment before he applied the kitridine. It just really hurts.
It was at this moment he knew… he f*cked up.
I don’t have much to say that no one else already has, except that you can see Dainix’s blood on Falst’s claws all throughout the page.
During their inevitable first night, Falst should kiss that shoulder tenderly.
Dainix: BRB, just gonna sit here and cry for a minute. Not your fault, I just need to let out my emotions before I literally explode.
The vendetta against the right shoulder definitely comes from DBZ.
Falst damages Dainix while given first aid
Needless to say mistakes have been made
I mean I don’t treat my right shoulder all that well since it gets to hold all my heavy bags when I’m walking… but that’s not the same thing is it?
the way Dainix just calmly continues first aid despite receiving a significant wound. I can’t articulate it, but there’s something so patient and tender there and it makes me want to cry
Alinua were are you the boys need healing
She can’t heal falst, ferrin are immune to healing magic, remember?
Also considering how her magic works, I’d rather just do stitch it up.
They’re really not. comicaurora.com/aurora/1-10-11
Ferin can’t be mages, & I think they might be more resistant to magic in general? —but they’re not immune.
This is untrue. Ferin are resistant to magic the same way that they’re resistant to broken bones. They’re just a lot tougher than most people. the fourth image, with dainix shaking & restraining himself? summarizes everything that’s wrong with me.
Dainix smiling through his obvious pain is… ow. owowowowow my EMOTIONAL CENTER–
My guy
I don’t have anything to say that the rest of you haven’t already said, but man am I glad that the others are on their way
Man, RIGHT on the old scars? Ouch
NOOOO-HO-HO-HO-HOOOOoooo
CRAP
now i wanna cry!
NOOOO-HO-HO-HO-HOOOOoooo
CRAP
now i wanna cry!
I know Dainix can’t just go flamey right now, but if he’s transmuting his entire being when he does that, does it just heal him fully when he does it?
That IS a good question. It… doesn’t seem to be unlimited at any rate, we’ve seen him transform & it didn’t bring his missing eye back or anything. Then again, Tahraim did say “guilt burned out [his] eye”, so maybe there’s magic reason for that?

OH DANIX’S FACE IN PANEL FOUR. I KNOW THAT FACE AND ITS SETTING OFF MY HUG SENSES SOMEONE PLEASE HELP HIM.
So I may be way behind the 8- ball here, but what if the systems recognize Falst as an Ancient because he has no connection to the element winds? Erin mentions that Ferin are magically inert, as were the Ancients, so what if that’s what the scanners are looking for?
TL;DR: Scarred inside and out.
Oh, I can feel ALL the emotions on this page.
Falst’s immediate guilt and probably self-loathing, Dainix’s not wanting to show how much pain he’s in (thinking it’ll hurt Falst more)… you people better have an actual conversation about this because I swear-
