I believe that’s Falst seeing his reflection in some sort of mirror, or more likely a pool of water, with the transformed figure of what is probably his mother looming behind him.
Okay now I just wanna hug him… poor Falst needs therapy so badly

I can’t tell what is happening in the flahback panel directly right of the one where she bears her teeth- did he see her in a mirror? Methinks sooner or later we’ll get to see this scene on the foreground, narrated or remembered.

Yes, definitely an amazing job, I was just blown away.
Also, could this be one of the reasons he was so desperate about turning human?
I think that mostly stemmed from how he has been treated throughout all these years, as he put it earlier- I think if he does consider himself “a monster”, he considers cave crawlers even lesser; “not [people] anymore”.
Though perhaps, part of the hatred could be stemming from his father (who we haven’t seen in-comic yet, and from whom he inherited the Ferin mutation). If I were asked to make a random, heartbreaking guess right now, I’d say, perchance,
maybe he had to kill her.
Also, you’re right! I just now noticed the angle of the reflection. That’ll help visualise the scene more accurately

aaiiiiiiiii, that is the coolest comic book page design I have ever seen!!
Marvelous job of showing “current” action in color and “past” action seen behind color panels in black black and white appearing in behind in mope detail the further down the panel I look/perceive. Another excellent example of creative comicbook art style created by Red I think if I am interpreting correctly. I tell you it delights my perception/thoughts/day!
Well, as incredibly upsetting as that is, can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that TINY FALST IS ADORABLE!

And the amount of work that must have gone into this… I’ve seen a webcomic artist do his thing on Twitch, I have at least a vague feel for how much work goes into layout. This feels like it would have been a nightmare to organize, and I bet panels had to be redrawn, or you had to go back to base panels you’d made and recut them to put them at a new angle, etc.
It’s gorgeous though. Bravo.

It was just a thing in the Discord I believe. Red posted some sketches of Tiny Falst & Mom and then a crawler on the next page, and some people made the connection that the crawler’s blouse had the same neckline as Mom’s. The pics are in the Sketches section above, IIRC.
I know everyone’s talking about Mom theory, but I really like the shrinking present-day panels to symbolize Falst losing himself in the past. I also like tiny Dainix in the bottom, showing he’s still there, but Dainix is the furthest thing from Falst’s mind right now.
All in all, good page, very meaningful
…Where was Falst’s dad throughout all this? It doesn’t look like he’s in any of the flashbacks. Did he abandon them? Did they abandon him? Was he killed by bigots or wildlife? Does it have something to do with “You will find your way if you are truly my son”?
Second flashback panel: Falst’s left arm is covered in gashes.

Hey, does anyone know what the runes say? They look like Ancient runes to me, but I don’t have the cipher for those– can anyone translate, please? I will post more about it if/when I get the cipher and if they say something that we might recognize.

In the third backstory panel, it kinda looks like someone has a ponytail that could be Falst’s dad. Also do we think that the ruin are a grave stone? If so for Falst’s dad or mom? And finally if that is a grave stone why is it written in ancient ruins? Danix was asking about any ancient family earlier.

I really like how dynamic and unique this page is, even if it prevents me from figuring out what the heck’s happening.
But at least I’m finally caught up, yay!
So Mom theorists, how we feeling? Also I cannot get over how beautiful this panel is, every time I look at it there’s a new detail I missed and it’s inspired way too many emotions.

The mom theory has been confirmed!
I think one of the top flashback panels (second from the left) looks like Falst’s dad leaving, because of the hair, cape, and headband. That would imply that he was present for this, but he doesn’t seem to have been active in the whole debacle.
Seeing the gravestone for Emira, we were right that it’s his mom’s name, but this also means that Falst probably only knows those runes, and most likely can’t read Ancient. The real question is why is it Ancient in the first place? How did Emira die? And why is she experiencing cave corruption in a house and not the caves themselves?
The shrinking and fragmentation of the present panels as Falst gets more and more lost in the past is so effective and upsetting.
Now we see if Dainix can drag him out of there without getting mauled. 🙁
That last panel(?) is so well done, I’m surprised I haven’t seen arrangements like that more often cause it looks sick!

It’s like the real comic just shattered and we can now see the comic that Falst thinks he’s in while fighting underneath. I love how even without words we can get an idea of what likely happened (mom (probably) got cave corrupted, they thought she was just ill, oops now this is a horror comic).
If I may add a little conspiracy theory here, I wonder if he blames the whole Ferin thing on why it seems no one came to help before the horror movie stage. If it was cave corruption due to famine or being forced to hide in the caves(in turn due to the world’s attitude toward Ferin), then he would probably still be resentful about it, and if it were directed inwards, then that might explain a lot

As a martial artist of mmmmany years, I’m noticing something here: Falst is not using his claws. Only blunt force trauma. Which is interesting, to say the least.

Only blunt force trauma, when his claws can etch stone and safely be used to slash at people without fear of getting ripped off. Definitely notable. Maybe cave crawler blood carries corruption?
