Three tentacles whirl as one levers it aloft,
Beneath the torso hangs a stinger.
Dainix leaps before Falst, bright yellow it glows,
A crackling radiance that fills Dainix with horror.
So just for a status update I’ve animated 6 out of the 29 vines I plan to animate for Aurora. 23 more to go!
Yikes this was a lot more than I thought it would be but it’s a lot of fun.
Don’t worry robot; I get similar gymnastics when I try to handle my cat.
Nice flip, though I shouldn’t be surprised; he did something similar against Alinua in 1-10-3. From that face in panel 2, Falst knows it’s a threat; whether that means he’ll work with and help Dainix is another matter.
Human cyclops head, Doc Ock arms, and wasp abdomen with stinger. The Ancients had an … interesting design philosophy to say the least. Still, the last two traits seem well suited to its objective from the runes: subdue Dainix and take Falst to safety.
Dainix has chosen to fight rather than flee; his experience in the Ravvan might make him the best person to fight Automatons. However that stinger seems to have taken him off-guard and in the open; I get the feeling Dainix is about to be subdued.
oouhhhhhh… is noone gonna mention that it has a… an abdomen?? noone? it is literally a spider robot, and that’s really cool but also a little unsettling (and i’m not even arachnophobic)
@Question Master Doc Ock doesn’t miss led day… arm day? ro-bro is a gymnast is what i’m saying
Question Master- Robot looks like it should have wings. Sturdy construction?
It looks like Falst doesn’t want to grabbed or hugged even if he does understand what it says. It looks like Dainix is going to be zapped rather stung given the ‘KRZZZZZZZT’ sound in panel 4, But I have been wrong before.
Did you know…
A taser works by firing 2 small metal darts using compressed nitrogen connected by thin wires to the taser. When the darts reach their target the taser releases a very high voltage shock across the wires to the target, disrupting the nervous system of a person.
(Butt taser, bottom text)
I really like this robot design, with enough magitech the conventional laws of physics need not apply. And to me seeing it fully it looks like it could have been a way to non-lethal method of incapacitate people, maybe made to target cave-dwellers, or reprogrammed as the ancient civilization was falling apart.
Question Master:
It kinda looks like that arm is just dangling there, meaning that it might be floating.
MrMapleSyrup:
I’m glad he got off the Butterfingers
storylineobsessed:
Neat! I can’t wait to see it!
CapitainCutlet:
For some reason that reminds me of a Arby’s YTP, “Arby’s: we have the *?????? ???? ???* ‘Magic’”
I’m loving the choreography on this page. I wish I could see it animated. Falst flips backwards and lands behind Dainix just as Dainix is charging forward, almost like a dance. Their personalities may clash, but they obviously work well together.
Ah. So that’s what the lightning lacrima in its chest is for.
Mm! That’s some tasty foreshortening in panel 3! Also, it looks like Dainix was about to go for a powerful lunging thrust, since his left hand is all the way at the far end of the shaft (ha) by the spearhead, while the other hand is toward the bottom of the shaft, ready to quickly push (yes, yes, make your jokes). I’ve also never seen someone use a dual-underhand grip on a spear before… interesting.
Saga:
Honestly, if it were possible, I’d love to see Aurora adapted into a tv series, it’s just so pretty! (Also, if that were to happen, I would want to voice act The Void Dragon; I’m capable of making a very deep voice that I always read his lines in, and I think it fits quite well.)
Were this a primarily comedy-fantasy I’d expect it to be out of juice and have dangerous taser-butt hit but then BWOOOooo and do no damage. As it is I’m expecting either a daring rescue from our electric-immune member or a ratcheting up of tension as the robot starts to achieve its objectives.
Question Master: This tells us three scary things about the robot. First, its materials are durable enough for all its weight to be supported by a single arm. Second, that its propulsion method is strong enough for all its weight to be supported by a single arm. Third, that its programs make it agile enough to know how to balance itself on a single arm while performing complex maneuvers with all its other arms. YIKES.
Clearly, it has coiled its long arm around the ground to form a base much like a table with only one central leg would, and its arm must be sturdy enough to support its weight even at such an awkward angle. It also might have some kind of discreet propulsion system or something. It has a taser butt, it appears to be modeled after a wasp or something so maybe it can fly.
And now I’m getting even more Castle in the Sky robot warrior vibes.
Now if you don’t mind me I’m going to brace for the feels of it not understanding why Falst is running away.
It would be really cool if Kendal woke up and promptly wrecked shop but, based on his last appearance, I don’t think he’ll be in this fight. Where are the Ruunaser siblings when you need them?
Well First of all, we dont know how heavy the Robot is, We know that runes can suck up energie so if the Robot runs on Magic the Powersource is nearly weightless.
Also it was clealy build by an advanced civilisation so, based of how knowledge today there a are strong lightweight material suitable for combat apllications. We also don’t know what kind of materials exist in aurora that allow would allow lightweight construction.
because the robot is probably build for combat fokosing on mobility ( long flexible arms and an range attack) it is likely build with a lightweight body to allow fast movment and strong stable arms to attack and deflect enemie attacks.
So I would say the fakt that the robot can stand on one arm makes sense.
Also it doesnt have legs, so the arms where probebly build with this kind of use in mind.
I really like the way the arm is curled up by the way it looks exacly how i would imagine something like this to stand on an arm.
Hey sry because of the numerous writting errors your all gonna find, english is not my first leanguage 🙂
There once was a robot, wasp-like,
Whose arms are like the chains of Shrike.
Falst backflips away
As Dainix comes in play
And the wasp-butt gets ready to strike.
I think it’s really interesting how much of a hodgepodge of different creatures this automaton is, but thinking about that requires actual brainpower, and I am currently feeling microwaved. So, instead, have my incoherent ramblings about how pretty Falst’s eyes look when lit by the glow of the ominously flashing lacrimas of a revived long-dead ancient automaton that may or may not be actively trying to kidnap him and harm his companion. Truly, a wonder of art.
My brain just came up with an image of Falst screeching inside of a cage labeled ‘Do Not Feed the Monkey’ and it isn’t even that funny but now I’m mentally wheezing. My brain is so microwaved
Hey so Question Master kind of triggert a few thoughts about possible technikal aspects of the robot.
I know its a fantasy world, A wizard did it is always an option and I dont have experience with robotics but I its just where my brain went,
I am having a lot fun thinking about it and I want to tell somebody.
first of all I am asuming an lightweight combat maschine based on flexibillity and movement.
A lightweight constuktion could mean weaker bodyarmor. This would make the arms the robots main method of deflecting incomming attacks
So there need to be stonger then the main body to take and deal damage. There also have an segment design with what I assume are something similar to gyro motors
between each segment allowing the tentacle like movment of the arms. This kind of rotational mechaniks are not suitable to take a lot of punishment coming from the side.
which it needs to if the arms are suppost to block attacks
So the arms would need some kind of additional protection, I am thinking that there are metal rings in each segment able to lock with the next segment, locking the
to segments in place relative to each other, protecting the gyros and giving the arms extra stabillity. If each Segmant had this kind of mechanismen if the KI of the robot is
able to control them individuelly the arms could have the best of both worlds. Stabillity ore flexibillity in each part of the arm depending on what is needet moust.
Also possible could be a scales like constuktion. the sclaes could slide under each other not limiting the movment of each gyro motor but would give protection from attacks made against the arm.
scales would give the gyros extra support though.
Also what senses are absolutly needed for the robot to fullfill its assumed funktion.
A way to lokate and distinguish enemy and and friends. and map its surroundings. It has sight so its coverd there.
It would also need a way to lokate the position of all of its arms relative to itself and a way to know if an arm is funktional
so the arms dont get into each others way.
The first one is possible by letting each rotor send its rotational position. With some fancy mathematics each position of each segment is calculable knowing the arms origin and the exakt size of each
segment. I am assuming here that the robot has a powerful computer system, or somthing that serves the same porpuse
the second one is more tricky I think.
Assuming the robot uses something simillar to electricity to transport power. It could measure this to evaluate the integrety of the arm segments.
It would need a way to distinguish between a destroyed segment, taht makkes the hole arm useless ans one that cant move anymore. So the arm is still funktionell just less flexibell in that segment.
Also extremly usefull for an fighting style based on speed is a sense of touch. using for example pressure sensors.
Them beeing way easier and faster to interpret then visual information. and allowing reakttions to attacks happening ouside of the visual sensors.
also smaller prozessors in the arms them self could be used to interpret the pressureplate input and reakt cutting down even further on reaktion time. similiar to how Human Reflexes work
So I had my fun with this, I hope it doesnt annoy you guys
Also sry for some of my mistakes I am not an native english speaker and writing in english is tricky for me.
Oxijohn:
Don’t worry; as someone who can only speak English fluently, it’s a messy, inconsistent, confusing language on account of being several different languages smashed together and left to simmer for several hundred years. You’re perfectly understandable to me, and at the end of the day, understanding each other is the whole point of language; it doesn’t matter how many minor mistakes one makes in the process.
In regards to the robot, it does seem to be weighted more in the arms than in the head and torso; after it tried to grab Falst, we can see that it’s leaning more on the other arms, indicating a correction of balance after sticking its arms so far out. What’s more, the whole robot appears to be heavily rusted, meaning that its physical integrity is weak; yet despite being rusty, the arms are still able to move with much dexterity and accuracy. This would indeed indicate complex construction in the arms, especially considering that it’s survived for so long and still quite functional.
It’s fairly obvious that the robot has some kind of lightning power, and Red has mentioned in a few places that the higher properties of lightning are attraction and repulsion (magnets). Looking at the robot in the first panel it looks like it’s hovering rather than resting it’s weight on a limb. My personal theory is that the robot is using Lightning’s higher properties to hover, and that fourth limb is on the ground because it’s too damaged to function.
It’s pretty cool to see everybody else’s theories, so thanks for sharing!
@Oxijohn: That’s super cool! I would never have thought to analyze it from an engineering perspective like that! Jumping off of your theory, do you think that those glowing blue-purple bits we can see through the cracks are the wiring and processing hardware, then?
And by the way, don’t worry, your english is perfectly understandable! (I wish I could write that well in a second language haha)
Thanksand and your right that is a good point havent noticed that.
@LilacSpiral
Yes maybe, a Crystal inlay maybe to condukt energie and infomration. but I also realised that on off it arms has a piece where its just the blue stuff. so it maybe just an physikal manifastation of some kind of magic that moves the robot.
But I like the wiring idea more so I gonna stick with it until the comic disproves it 🙂
For mobile readers.

Aurora Question #9: Uh… Anyone know how this big heavy robot can prop itself up on 1 broken tentacle?
OH MAN……… WASP…… well now it is a Creature :<
i am having So Many blorbo thought about falst goo night
Looks like Doc Oc’s been working out
if kendall was here we would have the full selfsacrificial reckless trio
haha my horrible illnesshas allowed me to come first haha
nvm yall work fast
Looks like Dainix is about to get zapped…
also, interesting how the design is partially wasp-inspired
Three tentacles whirl as one levers it aloft,
Beneath the torso hangs a stinger.
Dainix leaps before Falst, bright yellow it glows,

An insectoid creature from which he jumps away
Dainix goes forth, and faces a sparkly spray
Eeeeeee! Nightmare fuel! A wasp is bad enough, but wasp plus tentacles plus electro-zap butt? Kill it with fire! Heck, just KILL it!
