Faaaaalst. Stop projecting your issues onto Dainix! All he did was recognize something in you from himself, you don’t need to get all…well, Falst-y with him.
Me: Noooo Red! Don’t split the party!
Red: ♫ How ’bout I do anyway? ♫
Falst, you were literally projecting onto him, hard, just a few pages ago; after that display it would be difficult not to get into your head. I get that you’re mad, but you should be surprised at Dainix’s go at therapy.
Dainix certainly isn’t holding anything against Falst, it looks like he might have been going to apologise. Do you notice his free hand in the last two panels? He might have just been pushing Falst away to get a better view of the automaton, or he might have been trying to move him out of harms way.
Interesting to note how Falst didn’t seen the automaton coming. Something similar happened in chapter 11 with Falst so distracted by his emotional analysis monologue, he didn’t notice the Burrower Wyrm; it makes sense that he’s so off-guard in the final panel.
Prediction for next week: While I have a fear Falst might not help Dainix due to angst, Falst isn’t stupid and is quite mature even in rage. He’ll likely see this thing for the threat to everyone that it is and try to free Dainix so they can take it on together. Doing so might also cause the Automaton to register Falst as a threat.
I do love that, despite what was *just* said, Dainix’s literal first response to potential trouble is to gently nudge Falst out of the way.
Also considering this is a clash of “strong but quiet” and “angsty lancer” the robot is doing them a favor, giving them a violence-based outlet to bond over!
okay so obviously there are more important things going on, but I want to take a second to appreciate how nicely Red draws torsos. Just look at the subtle curvature of Dainix’s ribcage and the lovely way his shoulder connects to the rest of his body! Good stuff!
I meant to make this joke 3 pages ago, but now works too, ig:
Falst: you can’t psychoanalyze me IF I PSYCHOANALYZE MYSELF, FIRST
Dainix: that’s not how that wor-
Anyway, I also just really love how Red paced out the scene, the confrontation is dramatic and suspenseful without anyone feeling being pulled out of character. I can practically hear the ominous strings orchestra increasing in tempo and volume during the page.
Also I love the detail of the dirt flying off the robot’s claw thing, it does a really good job of showing how fast the claw was must be moving
(although it does imply that the robot only busted out of its half-buried state in this moment, which might mean that Falst accidentally triggered it, given its objectives. Idk what do y’all think?)
So, are we going to have a robot fight for a month or so, or are we going straight into a rescue mission to get Falst back after the robot quickly subdues Dainix and kidnaps Falst?
Kidnapping the lancer is a time-honored team-building tradition, after all.
I just noticed that Falst’s eyebrows have a different shape- he would claw me if he heard me say this, but they’re just so cute. Falst is so cute. He needs a hug. Dainix, hug him.
Also. We did a DIY printing press, which had space for a 4 letter word and guESS whose name I printed out. And then taped to my wall above my desk where I will see it every day. I have my official fangirl certificate guys
Falst be like: “I can’t understand my emotions, so I’d be darned to let YOU try”
Honestly it took longer than I expected for Dainix to get attacked by the robot, but I was right last page when I said this conversation wouldn’t end with FALST attacking him.
Also, have you guys noticed that Dainix’s eye marking on his right side looks a bit like an explosion? I looked back on the one page we saw the right side of his face before he exploded for the first time, and it used to be a stripe like the other side. It’s not a huge revelation but I want to know if I’m the only one whose noticed.
Hey, at least Falst didn’t punch him… because the robot punched first. But seriously, this is the first time since he’s joined the group that Falst’s temper has run this high, and we still don’t know exactly why beyond “best friend is dying and generally sh*tty mood is hanging in the air”… okay, now that I see it typed out, his high temper is understandable. Carry on, try not to get abducted by a robot.
Interesting parallel action- Dainix pushes Falst away from the robot claw and the claw slams Dainix away from Falst.
It would be funny if Dainix asks for Falst help and the robot just ignored Falst or worst ignored him altogether. What would ragekitty do then?
Wait- I don’t know if my comment posted the first time, so apologies if this is a double comment.
I just noticed that Falst’s eyebrows have a different shape, and he would claw me if he heard me say this, but they’re cute. Falst is cute. He looks like he needs a hug. Dainix, when you’re done getting attacked by an automaton, hug the catboy please
(There was a second part to my comment but unfortunately I forgot what it was, so enjoy Lenny for the rest of this comment ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
I guess it’s my turn to make a conspiracy theory, so here we go.
Didn’t realise when I first read the page, but when the robot registered the two of them two pages back Falst was marked in blue. As if it took more notice of him than of Dainix. Maybe the mission of this robot is to attack Ferin? Or has it just deemed Falst a bigger threat?
Falst: “And I DON’T WANT YOU IN MY HEAD!”
Dainix: “Ok, but what if I picked you up, skritched you behind the ears, and called you a good kitty? The bestest kitty, even?”
Falst: “….This is acceptable.”
@Jackalope
My understanding is that Falst means he doesn’t want Dainix analysing his behaviour, reading into his words and realising his fears, thoughts and emotions.
Woah that was very well written for a comment I’m usually pretty casual when writing notes and comments on things but that just slipped out there.
I found a song that makes me want a musical centred around Erin: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=GhVqRKrt8DI&feature=share
This is kind of off topic but like I’ve been planning to make this comment for ages but I keep on forgetting to do it on appropriate pages and I just remembered now so here we are.
what ive learned from this scene is that other peoples definitions of sexual tension are very different from mine lol sidenote i love how similar their colour palettes are, it makes them stand out against the night sky
@storylineobsessed
idk if you’ll see this but-
I feel like that song is how Erin is when he’s by himself, but he outwardly projects more like Me Too by Meghan Trainor
someone stop me from making an Erin playlist
Does Falst really need no protection? Is he just lashing out because he doesn’t know how to process his emotions? Will he learn a valuable lesson about maintaining his mental well-being during the next arc? Has that piece of Ancient technology mistaken Falst for its creator’s long lost kitten? Or is it just super excited to finally have found a cute catboi to play crokinole with?
Tune In Next Week to Find Out!
I kinda lost track of this comic for a month, or four, though catching up has been quite the blast. This page was too perfect for a cliffhanger for me to not briefly revive it.
Ok I’m going to post this theory now, because if I’m right I can have physical proof, but if I’m wrong maybe no one will see it 🙂
Theory: the robot will capture Falst and escape to a different location. Dainix won’t be able to stop it, so the group will have to go after it. Maybe their quest to the soulshaper monks gets sidetracked or maybe Falst will just feel helpless because he had to be rescued, but whatever happens will make Falst feel even guiltier.
@Theorytime
That’s actually a really good theory.
Also you thought you could escape me by posting late? You underestimate me!
Anyway yeah I like that theory. It would also probably involve Dainix leading the quest to save Falst, so trust could be formed there.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: and I will CERTAINLY never need your help under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

Wow, look a them starting to understand eacho*WHAM*
Catboi needs the good vibes in his life
ROLL FOR INITIATIVE!
Okay Falst, we get it, you’re so bi/hj
Anyways it’s time to bond with some robots
as the journey continues
Dainix about to get yoinked.
Thump
Faaaaalst. Stop projecting your issues onto Dainix! All he did was recognize something in you from himself, you don’t need to get all…well, Falst-y with him.
Me, fully immersed every time Falst expresses his anger: Please, just one more page, give him one more page‐
The plot: nope 😀
This comic fills me with so many emotions, I can’t express it
Me: Noooo Red! Don’t split the party!
Red: ♫ How ’bout I do anyway? ♫

This page is AMAZING. Just- so much subtle character moments. So- GOOD.
“Well, smiley day to ya– I’m gonna kick your mass!”
“and I DON’T WANT YOU IN MY HEAD”
just in case anyone was wondering if he was in his head, probably a lot 😛

Whoopsies indeed.
is it just me or does every ancient and guardian type robot seem to have those segmented noodle arm things?

There once were two angsty not-friends.
One tried to make the other amends
But got interrupted
As trouble erupted.
Falst out of harm’s way he sends.

oh shoot! guys we forgot about the plot!
I like how Danix just bumps Falst aside so casually. Almost out of instinct when he sees something might be wrong ?.
MR-SN, no!

Faust does not need help
He can stand up for himself
Is that a robot?
TL;DR: So absorbed were they in argument, they failed to notice the robot nearby.
NOW KI—no, wait, maybe not right now.

Literally never happening anywhere but my brain:

Dainix: “Ok, but what if I picked you up, skritched you behind the ears, and called you a good kitty? The bestest kitty, even?”

“Did someone split the party?” Yes Red, you did, you split them.
we now interupt this angsty character drama and psychological revelations to bring you robot arm!
Uuuh looks like a bonding opportunity
Oh no I have another new ship
@Dragonsong yes, i too ship dainix with noodle-arm Ancient robot

Bro. I just binge read this whole thing, and THIS is where I get cliffhangered?!?
Listen twerp, you’re the one who approached Dainix, if you didn’t want him uncovering your emotional complex you should have left him alone.
