“No. It was the right thing to do,” Dainix says,
“Demons are legendary.”
“If I could learn to control it, I could protect them
Better than anyone else.
If I can’t… at least I won’t be there to hurt them.”
His feelings flow out like ice as it melts.
“So what’s your plan? Who’s going to teach you?”
Erin attentively asks,
And finding none, an offer he makes,
To bring Dainix with them in their tasks.
“We’re traveling to the Soulshaper Monastery in Helm,”
He says, where many have been helped with powers dire,
And where he has read, by an unusual fire-mage,
A “Treatise on Soulfire.”
“She-You-” Dainix gives hima tight hug
To transfer his gratitude through;
In his babbling flood of appreciation
He repeats, “Thank you!”
I’m sorry, but Erin’s face in the second panel…
Given how powerful everyone else in the party is, I suspect that Falst is feeling like he’s only there because of pity, that he can’t really contribute.
Falst is PROBABLY reacting to whatever’s happening with Alinua and Kendal, but until that’s confirmed I’m choosing to believe it’s because he’s jealous that Dainix hugged Erin and he (Falst) hasn’t.

I’m pretty sure Falst is seething that everyone else is being so casual while things with Kendal and Alinua Aren’t Going Well (given the last time we saw them, and Red’s knack for not cutting back to a scene until something changes) – hence the timing of the particularly strong reaction to Erin saying ‘when Kendal’s back on his feet’.

If that “Squish” SFX was a shade redder, I may have been concerned.
Lovely to see Dainix so upbeat after his tragic backstory telling; reminds me of how Erin brightened up after finding out Alinua and Kendal were well suited to helping him. That optimism might drop after Falst confronts him though; I reckon he has questions about the “fighting Kendal” part of Dainix’s exposition.
Tess, you’re making me concerned about Erin now. I’m sure he’s telling the truth about the Treatise on Soulfire; while he lied to get access to the archives, giving someone false hope of helping their condition to enlist their help for his own needs is too far.
No. I think Erin wants Dainix around as a means to deal with himself in case the monks lead is a dead end. He like Alinua and Kendal are counters to V.D., but unlike them, Dainix isn’t as attached to Erin personally, has proven how close he came to killing Erin before, and has a strong sense of duty and protecting others. In the worst case scenario, Dainix may be the best choice to take Erin down, and make sure V.D. remains sealed.

I see Erin is gathering people who can beat up the Void Dragon if it takes control again. Kendal can’t be consumed, Alinua frightens it, and now Dainix can beat it up too. Isn’t it convenient that the writings are left at the place he plans to deal with his possession?

Me: *adds this to my vast conspiracy board as I try to piece together Erin’s backstory, pulling out the red string and thumbtacks*
Me: So if we remember back to when we heard the brief overview of Tess’ backstory, she said that Erin’s father thought he would need a playmate his age…

Also, I think this is the first time we’ve seen Dainix actually… happy. Up until now he’s been all sad and angry. It’s awesome that he’s finally feeling better!

Huh. In the second panel (I love Erin’s face, by the way), I think that might be a knife sheath on the back of Dainix’s belt. Or perhaps that’s the quiver where he keeps his crossbow bolts. I didn’t see him with the crossbow when he decked the arenamaster, though, so either it was lost in the prison, or he didn’t leave his home with the crossbow and that’s a knife sheath after all. Or the crossbow got burnt to a crisp when he transformed the first time.
Erin. She is your beloved sister. Please explain to her all of what the f*ck is going on with you. She’s worried and wants to help, but can’t help if she isn’t in the know.
Falst is angsty because he won’t be the only orange-haired member of the team anymore.

I’m conflicted between being happy for Dainix and worried for Falst. Like maybe dainix should direct that hug to falst. (Assuming falst isn’t killing him the second he touches him)

also falst, why are you being so edgy?
@TheUnknownGame i’m not sure. it might be the quiver, it might be the crossbow itself—during the flashback it appears and disappears on his belt as he uses it against the ghouls. either way, i’m sure it’s some secondary weapon, and it’s placement reminds me of a handgun in the back of a man’s jeans in low-budget action/dramas (i’m recalling john barrowman’s character in desperate housewives tbh)
otherwise i’m not entirely sure why Falst is so upset, but i do have theories:
obviously, Kendal is hurt. that’s a big one
but also, he saw Dainix competing in the arena against a Ferin, and that’s lowered his opinion of the Ignan, especially given how he looked down on gladatorial sport at the time
thirdly, Dainix has mentioned that he fought Kendal, and Falst is holding that against him since Kendal relates to him so well AND because Kendal is now seriously injured, and noone else is bringing Dainix up on it
or it could be that, as others have said, ANOTHER heavy-hitter with magical powers has made Falst feel even less useful to the group
or it could just be teething problems: falst has only just become comfortable with Kendal, Alinua, and Erin (sort of) and it’s completely in-character for him to be uncomfortable around new people
Didn’t Falst take a fireblast to the face from Erin? He might be a bit miffed about that
I wonder if Falst feels like he is being replaced, especially since Dainix just offered to make sure nothing sneaks up on them, which is usually Falst’s job
First off hello everybody, it’s been awhile since I commented. But also, notice how Falst only gets really angry at the mention of Kendal, specifically at the mention of him getting better, I’m holding to the opinion that Falst is primarily mad that Erin is in denial and acting like this is all totally normal instead of acknowledging how serious it is. But I also find it likely that Dainix is contributing to that unease/anger, like others have said he’s not very naturally trusting
Okay. It’s cannon. Falst needs a hug. I’m willing to volunteer.

TL;DR: Now that you’re done demonstrating the power of friendship, can we have a serious talk?
Between Zurith and Erin’s apparent attitude about the helpfulness of gods (possibly colored by his association with Asera), I’m beginning to wonder if Vash was unusually involved in his people’s lives for a god, in that he cared about each of them as a person rather than a group of nameless followers. Even Gleicann had this “Can’t tell one mortal from another” attitude, but Kendall said Vash knew all of his people from birth and implied that he cared about everything that happened to them.
Also – Bets on what Falst will do next:
A) Follow Dainix to confront him
B) Tell Erin off
C) Continue lurking to hear Erin’s answer to Tess
D) Steal Erin’s bag again (possibly just to annoy him)
E) Both C & D

wait a minute.. In the lore section red said that some ferrin can look completely human. What if falst is angry because Daimix is a hidden ferrin? or something like that. Probably not true but im desperate for answers.

Yeah, it didn’t solidify in my head until Tess asked, but Erin *was* acting oddly
My ideas about why Falst is being a grumpy kitty: 1) He doesn’t trust/like Dainix because of him fighting Kendal 2) He’s mad at Erin for being reckless and also setting him on fire a bit 3) He’s just super worried about Kendal and all this sitting around is making him anxious/frustrated
Or it could be something else entirely, but those are the vibes I’m picking up.

I’ll say C and then A, it seems like Falst really wants to talk to Dainix- I *need* to see more of their interactions.
I think that Falst is upset because he didn’t do much of anything in the last battle. He couldn’t, everyone outclassed him in pure godly power.
Now the first person to believe in him is dying and he first friend is in emotional shambles. Eren doesn’t seem the least bit concerned about them, and Eren invites a person that can’t only not control their own power but who willing changed their body with magic on to the team. I can see Falst having some issues with that, he might be thinking “why choose to change your perfectly good body? You’re not a freak.” I can see him missing the importance of transitioning and embracing your true self.
That’s at least my read on it. I could be totally wrong. I’m curious to see what he does next because it is plan to see that he feels completely powerless and he might be very insecure. What do you all think?

Ohoooo! Erin’s got external motives that he’s probably going to try and deny!
Also as a few people pointed out Falst is getting more and more mad each page– I like a lot of the theories, and I’ll add to the pile my suspicion that he’s upset because Alinua and Kendal are suffering and this group is acting like nothing there is wrong, while Erin’s making executive decisions in their absence (perhaps he feels almost abandoned/forgotten, for lack of a better term?)
Anyway, I just want to put forth the headcanon that Erin made a rubber-ducky style squeak when Dainix hugged him
