His condition can be passed on genetically and he’s spent his whole life trying to be human. I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say that at least once he’s probably wished his parents hadn’t had kids so he wouldn’t have to put up with this mess of a life. (Or he’s referring to whoever invented that plague that transformed people like him in the first place.)

I never did take the time to ponder why Falst was traveling by himself and not with family or other Ferin. Looks like there was some kind of fallout, maybe Falst’s desire to become human drove a wedge between him and his peers?
Even if Kendal wasn’t on a mission to save Vash he’s still all Vash has left. With the city of Vash destroyed and it’s inhabitants dead he’s effectively the last citizen and last source of the cities culture. Of course Vash is going to be protective.

While Erin runs on hubris the way I run on coffee and I’m sure it makes for a dandy coping mechanism in these trying times, I strongly feel that he did not choose apocalyptic primordial threat#1, apocalyptic primordial threat#1 chose him.
Even if Kendal has a literal skull of steel, bonking his head on stone like that would still be a health risk, due to his brain rattling around so much from the impact. It’s a good thing he didn’t concuss himself by accident…
Eh, he’s not exactly human, so for all we know, he may not even have the same internal organs as a human. I’m sure he’s fine.
Yeah, Kendal doesn’t have a brain… right? Vash didn’t seem to have much of one.
Although that’s a real question; if Vash is a matrix of soul energy, and Kendal was built to be a war machine against the chimerae and not much else, would it be worth it to have much of a brain beyond the sensory and motor functions?
The 32nd page of the third chapter (https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-3-32/) confirmed that Kendal has a brain, but it’s up for debate how many of his braincells he actually uses.

Oh, it’s fine! Normally, I go to bed around midnight, but normally that means falling asleep at 12:30, and I wake up at 7 or 7:30 so I’m not late for school. My school’s going back in-person soon, though, which means I’ll have to wake up around 6 am.
@Lucat How are you falling asleep so quickly? I go to bed at 9:30, and it takes me at least an hour to fall asleep. Then I wake up at 3 or 4 feeling like total crap.
Honestly, 12 is the time I say I want to be asleep by/I put down my book, but I get into bed around 11:15.
Maybe, if you can, try taking melatonin and going to bed later?

It’s time zones probably, or they have the graveyard shift, or insomnia. Quarantine has destroyed time for a lot of folks. You and I seem to be in the same time zone though.
I’m a UK guy, in my timezone updates are around 8 AM so I can usually get a good read and comment out before home working at 9.

Me too, and we really do have some good ice cream. There’s a a gelato parlor in Stratford-upon-Avon that is just DIVINE. If I can get a scoop of Ferrero Rocher ice cream and a scoop of Oreo in a single cup, I will pay whatever it takes (and it’s not even all that much if I remember).
Aussie here, staying up until 6 pm isn’t particularly hazardous to my sleep schedule.
I live on the Pacific coast of North America, so updates are at 3am for me. I usually wake up around 7 or 8, but sometimes I wake up at 5 and can’t manage to fall back asleep

Truth, truth. I hate my cousins and uncle, and I didn’t really like some grandparents… I guess I just happen to have a pretty strange family.
I feel that; literally all of my grandparents are shitty in one way or another, ranging from ‘generic conservative asshole’ to ‘literally a registered sex offender’. Most of my aunts and uncles aren’t really worth talking to, either. It’s a good thing I have a found family…

But in all seriousness, that sounds awful. I never knew the worst sides of my family, just the stories. Apparently I had a grandfather who was so aloof he tried to sell my mom to a suitor, and he also melted a car’s tires on a trip to Saudi Arabia. The last times I saw him, the worst he did was shove snotty hands in my face. Then I had a great grandfather whose stupid but beautiful wife (arranged marriages right) annoyed him to death then tossed out everything of value. Oh. And my uncle is a bit too rough, as well as having a horrible user wife who thinks I’m a girl and therefore like pink… I’m non binary and hate the color pink! It gives me headaches! Then there are my cousins who passed some IQ test thing and act like they’re soooooo much better than everyone else.
IQ tests are a load of crap. Don’t let your cousins’ superiority complex get to you.

I’m honestly glad my cousins moved to Indiana. Now they are states away from me and I may never see them again. They can do their thing and I can do mine without being teased for losing a simple game of cards.
And yeah IQ tests are trash. Having just one measure of intelligence just feels a tad fishy.
The arranged marriages were part of the aristocracy time, and my grandfather was just utterly misogynistic. That and an economics professor who rarely thought of anything else. He was probably thinking about the next textbook he’d write.

I took an IQ test once. It came back with a score of 130.
Never trusted it since, because that’s definitely not true. Especially since I know ACTUAL geniuses and I’m nowhere near their equal. The best I can do is try to follow along and maybe throw them a curveball question occasionally

Who here has pets, and what kind? I have two dogs who are expert food thieves.
I also have a dog who is a tiny menace but we love her anyway.
What menacing things does she do? Mine were caught with their noses in oatmeal on numerous occasions. We excuse it as “they’re Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They’ll eat until they die.” Still a very bad excuse.
She got up on the table and ate my brother’s hamburger, she chews on the carpet and pees on the floor even though we have tried to get her to stop.
She also bites our feet when we take her on walks because she thinks it’s a game.
Rosie (the older dog) typed an email once. Glad she doesn’t know how to hit send…
And on walks, the younger one jumps on me and digs those claws in. And Rosie hates walks so she just plods along a few steps before just sitting and looking up. Also she’s very passive aggressive and will *mark* the couch every time she is denied afternoon television.

I often have Elodie (the younger dog) on my lap. I met her when she was 12 hours old and began bonding right away. She’s my “floofy shadow”.
Awww that’s so cute! My cats are Ellie, the younger cat and Dexter, the older, big cat. They don’t get along very well…
My dogs (they are mother and daughter) get along too well. I can swear Rosie taught Elodie the art of food snatching, but Elodie.. she’s shameless. Rosie drops the dumpling on confrontation, Elodie eats it while staring you down as if challenging you: oh, you want me to drop your food? Hahahaha! I eat!
Oh, and they are barking buddies.
Five cats, and we’re working on taming a sixth. We can get within a foot or two of him now. I’ll call him a pet when we can touch him.
I have 2 boxer dogs who happen to be sisters. My first dog is the mother to them…her name was Baleika…the two wild dogs are Belica and Ginger. (Bélica means fighter in Spanish, as In looking for a fight sort of)
I have one dog. She’s very skittish, doesn’t like being touched, and barks out the front window at anyone who passes by our house.
So basically all she know, two thing: eat pizza crust, and bork out of window.
She is the alarm system 🙂
One of my dogs is a bad influence on her mother. Now they both bark at EVERYTHING. Even the TELEVISION.

Four chickens and one black cat Luna, who’s on my lap right now.
Luna is an always hungry glutton, is pretty vocal about asking for food and steals any human food the moment you look away, one time she ate the top part of a slice of cheesecake that was left out. She also likes to steal the chair I use while working form home and me, being weak, let her (eh, means I’m not sitting down all day). I love her and she loves warm laps and chin scratches.
Two of our four chickens are too old to lay eggs; the younger ones are fearless and will eat any food you drop near them like avian piranhas; and all of them go into the nearby field and woods where our previous chickens met their end by foxes, because they’re idiots.

I got a dog, a little over a year old. Her name is Coco, and she’s a Labradoodle. Super cute, super playful, and super naughty. My family and I love her (I mean, we should).
I have a shih-poo named Sadie.
I have a dog and a cat, both of which are getting old by now. The dog is named Bronx, and he’s a huge attention hog. The cat is named Cloud, and she’s very antisocial. Having the two of them in the same house makes for some very fun moments.
I have two cats, Parsley and Minty, and a dog, Athena. Parsley is very fat, afraid of everything, and loves cuddles. Minty likes to explore outside and sit on high shelves and in boxes that are too small for her. Athena is kind of anxious and fairly small, but has a very loud bark.

Hey guys so on the last page I saw you were sharing your stories, and since I noticed too late, I think I’ll share my own here if you don’t mind: (yours are pretty good by the way, TheUnknownGame and Somebody, yours are exceptional):
Ok so…uh mine isn’t really that original because it is basically a fanfic out of the LoTR story…but it happened far away a from the main plot we all know. It all starts when my protagonist wakes up in the middle of the forest not knowing what she is, where she is, and where she comes from. She has no recollection of anything whatsoever. At this time, a group of rangers (who luckily had a reunion happening nearby) come and aid the nameless protagonist. She is wounded and she doesn’t know why, and she doesn’t even know her name. As a result, they end up naming her Nienor (just as Turin’s sister whose memory was erased by a dragon called Glaurung) because she doesn’t really remember anything. She was also wearing a mourning attire, and Nienor means mourning. Then steps a renown ranger out and speaks up. He says there is no point in naming this poor maiden such a terrible name, she is still alive whatever she went through, and that is a gift. (After further research I figured the ending -an as in Melian or the beginning of Annatar meant gift) so they named the girl Niënoran. Hearing this, she resolved to keep going in life with everything she had, for she had nothing to loose.
There’s more to it but I suppose I have bored you long enough….

Nah it’s fine. Most of my stories were fanfics of this or that that I decided I didn’t want to write as fanfics so I overhauled a lot of stuff and boom- story. This is what you call an overactive imagination+ tons of procrastination.
Heck yeah! One of my settings literally has superpowers and character designs inspired by Pokémon, and I could probably hide that pretty easily if I wanted to- but then I’d have to change some names around and frankly I am lazy
I had a Pokemon story once. About an abandoned Charmander who has to relearn the ways of the wild. Then I redid it and now it’s about a snooty dinosaur that rage quits pack life to find out that pack animals live in packs for a reason.
That makes me feel a lot better lol
Hell yeah. Thats basically what I do too. Or pull straight from movies and video games, add a little of my own stuff. And boom, i have a five page story I will probably never touch again, which makes me sad, because (I’m told) I’m a good writer.

I definitely do. I also go through “I hate this” phases, both with drawing and writing.
I’m currently working on a Danny Phantom fanfic where in which Danny gains a parental figure he can talk who is neither a). A two-episode wonder, or b). sporting more red flags then a communist convention. (It’s an alternate universe.)
Oh, and a cracky spitefic for one of my siblings.
Ok so…Nienoran decided that he who had named her deserved to be served forever as thanks (she thought he had given meaning to her life basically) so she started to follow him around. Our ranger here, none other than Aragorn (my favorite character since I became a fan of LoTR) was slightly surprised and unwilling to take the role of “master”, yet eventually he accepted her presence. (Ok so the dynamic I’m looking for here is sort of Aragorn being Nienoran’s fatherly figure, yet she is also like his arms page). He decided that if he would have her follow him around in the wild, she should be properly trained. *Timeskip in which she turned out to be excellent at this ranger thing and can properly defend herself and survive in the wild; Aragorn has never had so much help* (The time skip also includes the whole Bree event, in which Aragorn rescues the hobbits from the Nazgul pack and they manage to go all the way to Rivendell; we are now during the Council of Elrond). Nienoran is listening to the whole thing, and she can barely contain her excitement. The next morning, her stuff in hand, she wonders why everyone is gone…they had forgotten her! She runs and finally catches on to the fellowship, yet it seems they are not aware fo her presence yet, she is hiding in the bushes after all. Suddenly, Aragorn turns around and pulls her out of her hiding place. Nienoran asks why she was forgotten, still in a laughing tone. She thinks this is some sort of test. Yet Aragorn’s face is stern…he says she may not come under any circumstance. This is too dangerous. Nienoran says she can handle anything, she has learned all he has taught her she can- but no. Aragorn does not let her come, and in the end, she complies. Though it doesn’t seem so, she has a very great attachment to this fatherly figure, and it’s the first time she has been separated so roughly in from him. She just sits there weeping..and the night slowly draws near…
The only friendly face she has known has left her…she has nothing more…(also she is unstable because she literally knows nothing about herself, like before Aragorn there is nothing, and that darkness in her memories is her greatest fear. She never wants to return to that state of utter despair and knowledge of nothing.) She suddenly jumps out of her thoughts…darkness surrounds her. It is nighttime already. The wind howls, the leaves rustle…and footsteps! Footsteps coming her way, coming from the forest. There is running, and she prepares herself. As she unsheathes her blade, a boy stumbles out of the bushes. This boy, just about her age, maybe older even, is completely drenched in red, he looks around wildly holding his head between his hands. He speaks, but not to Nienoran. He apologizes, to nothing? He seems to be talking to something that isn’t there. He finally screeches with such a scared face anyone is moved to pity and collapses to the ground…what will Nienoran do next? Find out later in the afternoon because I need to study! (Also, Nienoran is 16 btw and this boy’s name is…Tyelcaron or simply Tyelca, meaning the Swift).

Sorry to keep you waiting…yesterday was a very difficult exam day and I actually managed to get a 98 on both!
OK so…Nienaron opts to take this fellow back to Rivendell, even though she herself could heal him. The night drags on, and so does Nienoran carrying a half-dead lad. When the flames of Arien (the sun) finally arose, Nienoran and he were both collapsed on the ground, just in front of the gates. The elves came to their aid.

Nienoran recovered fairly quickly, so she went to visit the unconscious fellow every day. Each day passed, and no sign of him being awake…yet the day came at last, though not in the way as expected. Nienoran was sitting beside the bed when she saw his eyes flutter. His hazel eyes turned to her…and just at the same time, she was violently kicked away. She quickly recovered. Though caught off guard Nienoran was always ready for a fight! The boy lashed at her, his eyes were filled with rage…yet confused. Nieanoran managed to pin him down. She asked what was wrong…he was entirely safe, there was no need for this! But the boy was stronger. He pushed her off and now she was pinned to the ground. The boy asked where were they. Where were who? Nienoran said she didn’t understand. He asked again, while tightening his grip on her wrists. She struggled, but it was no use…she said again she didn’t know what he was talking about. The boy looked at her eyes searchingly. Maybe in those dark pools of honey he saw the truth. He let her go at last. He apologized…his ferral manner dissipated completely. Now just a confused boy remained.

Can I just take a moment to say how amazed I am that all these comment sections are so civilized. I just don’t understand. Literally every comment section I’ve seen has at least one idiot who ruins it for the rest, but here, all of y’all are so good to each other. So, thank you, each and every one of you, for making me and many others feel welcome here. It means a lot. And of course, a big thanks to Red for putting in so many hours for this awesome webcomic for us to read and talk over.
I’ve been reading since the second chapter and for a while I was scared of commenting- now I look forward to seeing and interacting with all of you! It’s a fun part of my week and routine, even if I don’t have anything of interest to say most of the time, hehe.

In case it helps, this plant is a Nepenthes ventricosa (primarily pink pitchers with red spots, pink flowers). Were the plant a girl I might have named it Red.
