Aw, I thought the cover was a reference to Erin going full Superpowered Evil Side. Oh well …
Also, holy molly, Tess is powerful! The lady turned his back into a meteor crash site
hey tynan seems like you need a pretty big wing surface area to stay in the air
sure would be a shame if you took a hit there while all that way up in the air, huh
Once, I played VtM with a storyteller who wanted to see how far we’d go before we understood that we weren’t meant to succeed and we couldn’t succeed.
Silly man. We burned down an entire city and had to flee to another continent after it became clear the Sabbath Bishop wouldn’t accept our failure (orders were orders) and the NPC we were supposed to take out essentially couldn’t be taken out… I don’t know what our ST thought we’d do or how he imagined it but we sort of didn’t get a third game after those first two evenings. Funny that. Almost like…
Anecdote over. Tynan, you’re a very pretty, giant, f*ck you dragon… But alas, the concept of “giving up” isn’t in these peoples’ vocabulary. “Can’t win” isn’t either.
Dainix: HEY! Can you keep it down? Falst and Erin are trying to nap!
Panel 3 is just amazing, the feel of power in Tynan’s body and wingbeats, the perspective of the rainfall, the two combined make him tower over everything and everyone else. Can can also see a little Kendal still holding on in this panel.
Flying does give Tynan an aerial advantage none of the protags can match, but if he is plucked from the sky through damage to a wing via fire magic, well, gravity is a harsh mistress. Also his attempt to get his passengers off seems to be failing, Kendal’s grip is too strong and looks like Tess is using lightning attraction to stay attached.
So Tynan’s plan is to jump into the sky, where Dainix and Erin have previously thrown enormous fireballs at a great distance.
Tynan, sweetie, I know it’s dramatic but that might not work out for you.
THE. ANATOMICALLY. CORRECT. MAJESTIC. WINGSPAN.
THANK YOU, RED! I hate seeing dragons with really short wingspans-*side eyes How to Train Your Dragon*-, and you managed to pull off the large wingspan very well! It looks gorgeous, especially the lightning trailing from his eyes, and how you made him slender and corded instead of unnecessarily bulked up and heavy like most art! The colours-*chef’s kiss*
Erin wouldn’t hesitate to blast the dragon with a fireball, if he weren’t K.O.’d. He knows his sister can hop away and he’s seen what Kendal can take. Dainix doesn’t know what Kendal can take and will hesitate, since his whole M.O. now is to not harm others as he has in the past. So while Kendal’s on the dragon, he won’t strike.
Either the next move is Tynan!dragon being even scarier, or Tess is going strike again.
If Tynan!dragon manages to shake off his passengers, that’ll free Dainix up to strike.
I think… Tess is going to hit him again. This is not her first dragon, and of course they always try to fly. That just gives them farther to fall in her book.
This page reminds me more than a little of the Otachi fight from Pacific Rim… We all know how that went, though it’ll be interesting how Dainix and Erin’s presence affects the whole thing–especially the latter, given the increasing likelihood of a VD possession reveal (perhaps with an included ‘deal with the devil’ page or two to set it up, though I think a straight reveal, with that page as a flashback after the fact, would be more fun…)
@cultured lesbian
I think the main advantage would be that no more people can jump up and try to stab him at that height. He may not have fully considered the fireballs, but I guess the stabbing thing is his current priority
He claims, “You don’t understand,”
To the floof squad’s traveling band.
But he doesn’t get
That they’ll beat him yet
Whether they fight in the sky or on land.
These are fun! Thanks for the compliments, everyone! And while I’m at it, I just want to congratulate Red for creating a story without a single annoying or badly-used trope that is also singularly wholesome, extremely engaging, and does not have drama simply for the sake of drama.
Hey, I was rewatching one of Red’s trope talks (the one about time travel), and I noticed that one of her drawings squarely featured the The Gang including Dainix (except for Tess, although there was a different figure so maybe it was a rewrite idk) Did anyone else notice this? Does this happen a lot and I just don’t notice? Anyway, thought it was cool
Man I LOVE that third panel. Giagantic wingspans are so beautiful in a pose like that, and the slight inward curve is so ~dramatic~. Ahh Tynan, you beautiful idiot. *quietly screenshots both fullbody poses to reference later*
Noticing an increase in the poems/songs/etc in the comments, yalls dedication is awesome <3
may I just also say that Tynan's dappled markings are absolutely gorgeous, Red you legend.
Tess! Hit the sword with your lightning! Electricity, straight through the eye, down the optic nerve and into the brain!
@Called by Magic: Thanks for continuing the limericks! I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up with them, so I’m glad someone picked it up and ran with it.
It occurs to me that there is a *lot* of lateral pressure on that blade now, it must be cutting pretty deep. I would think it would hurt a ton. It probably did more damage from this flying stunt than it did getting thrust in.
Snow falls upon Zuurith
As Tynan opens his wings
With a ‘whoosh’ he rises
Alongside him, Kendal and Tess
Precariously perched upon the body of their rival
Praise the anatomically correct wingspan.
My attempt at free-form. Thoughts?
Side note, how is Tess hanging on with just her bare hands? I mean, seriously.
Tynan should be more thankful for such a good chiropractor
Ok the chapter cover makes a lot more sense now.
Uh, Tynan is a lot more slender and snakelike than it looked to me at first glance.
The last panel looks poster-worthy. In fact, every panel looks poster-worthy. Awesome work, Red.
Aw, I thought the cover was a reference to Erin going full Superpowered Evil Side. Oh well …
Also, holy molly, Tess is powerful! The lady turned his back into a meteor crash site
Such a beautiful dragon!
Worried about his passengers tho
“You… STILL don’t UNDERSTAND,” Tynan
Proclaims, and spreads his wings,
“YOU CAN’T STOP ME!” the dragon roars,
Into the sky it springs.
And borne aloft with sudden force,
Brave Tess and Kendal hang-
Her fingers on its rain-slicked hide,
While his to the sword-hilt cling.
I don’t think that’s gonna stop Tess for too long. Also, Dainix is still there.
@The Lolest
Huh, I just realized that the last panel is almost exactly the chapter cover
Except the cover’s also on fire…
Cover art! *Clap* Cover art! Clap* Cover art!! *Clap*
hey tynan seems like you need a pretty big wing surface area to stay in the air

Said every minor villain ever.
Tynan is shocked, he can’t believe
That they still fight, without reprieve
Into the air he seeks to go
Those mortals sure will have a show!
(Couldn’t find a way to summarize in one couplet.)
Also I noticed a limerick last page. Nicely done!
Sounds like something someone who *can* be stopped would say!
TL;DR: insecurities much?

(Bloody hell the ART!!!)
Erin better be charging the biggest goddamn fireball you ever did see.
Oh wait he’s unconscious isn’t he
You sure you aren’t just trying to convince yourself of that, Tynan?
Tynan: YOU CAN’T STOP ME!!!
The Gang: Are you sure about that??
Dainix: HEY! Can you keep it down? Falst and Erin are trying to nap!

I see our stormboy is looking extra majestic today.
I don’t really see how flying up into the air is going to give him an advantage, but it sure looks dramatic
why tynan got such a snatched waist tho
I love seeing myself a dragon with an appropriate wingspan for once.
So Tynan’s plan is to jump into the sky, where Dainix and Erin have previously thrown enormous fireballs at a great distance.

Panel two. “It was at this moment, she knew… she f*cked up.”

AHHH I JUST STARTED READING LAST WEEK AND NOW I’M CAUGHT UP AT THE WORST POSSIBLE CLIFFHANGER AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR EACH PAGE HOW DO YOU ALL DO IT?!
alt text: they fly now
Barely holding on
Tynan tries to shake them off
Flying to the sky
PROPERLY SIZED WINGS
YEAAAAAAA
People often neglect to recall that properly sized wings look really cool when the thing is in flight.
what, exactly, is the point of flying up? they both managed to hold on pretty well. so if the purpose was to throw them off, he failed pretty badly.
He claims, “You don’t understand,”
To the floof squad’s traveling band.

This page is pretty damn likely my favourite artwork of the comic so far. Like, holy bejesus that is a BEAUTIFUL dragon!
That dragon is JoJo-posing in that third panel and I absolutely love it.

Tynan starts singing “don’t stop me now” while everyone frantically tries to defeat him.
after they stop an actual storm and likely run off what will happen? (likely a focus on Tess at least for a few pages after)
Man I LOVE that third panel. Giagantic wingspans are so beautiful in a pose like that, and the slight inward curve is so ~dramatic~. Ahh Tynan, you beautiful idiot. *quietly screenshots both fullbody poses to reference later*

That sounds like a prelude to “I’m invincible’, after which death is usually imminent.
This guy needs to read the Evil Overlord List badly.

I’m a shootin star leaping through the skyyyy!

Lightdefender: having tess use the sword as a lightning rod to ensure that the attack hits and hits a painful place is actually really smart.
They maybe can’t stop you, Tynan, but they can certainly slow you.

That sounds like the sort of thing that you only say when you can be stopped but you don’t want them to know that.
If you really can’t be stopped, why aren’t you just crushing them?
@SarrissaTeiflingDruid
Maybe she’s created a magnetic field? With her and Tynan both being charged with lightning, is that too far a leap? xD
