About Erin’s eyes: I never noticed because it hasn’t happened before chapter 11, and the only very noticeable times it happened since were the ice wall and the small burst of fire on monday’s page before we cut to back to Kendal.
Yes, I did just check through the whole comic, his eyes consistently change after chapter 11 but have pretty much never changed before (except to indicate void possession).
Nice to see Red’s artstyle evolve
To anyone having trouble navigating the pages: You can scroll through the comic with the arrow keys on your keyboard! No back or forward buttons needed!
Man I love when Erin gets to actually back up his hubris a bit.
And yes, Kendal, this is clearly a raid level boss, you’re going to need a full party for this.
And Dainix is on the way, and Erin just demonstrated that fire works exceptionally well here, so on balance I don’t think Tynan is going to have a very good day today.
Rai626 Same, lol. Its a really neat and interesting detail.
The yellow colours giving me vd (is that an abbreviation ppl use in this fandom?) vibes tho.
I feel like an enormous dingus, because I only just noticed Erin’s eyes change color to match whatever he’s casting. Or at least, that’s what it looks like here.
Now, I wonder how long it’ll take the other trio to show up to help….
TL;DR: Mr. Hubris finally gets his time to show off without making an absolute fool of himself.
Bonus:
Perhaps a high-stakes battle isn’t the best place to test one’s durability. Should’ve done that earlier, when there was less “flooding a city” on the table.
“I cast healing hands to heal up Kendal”
“alright, Tynan is going to use a Legendary action to summon a lightning strike on you and Kendal…”
“I use my Lightning Shield to repel it, protecting us both.”
“…How many spell slots can you spend in a turn”
“A lot. This character is really min-maxed”
To think, yesterday marked one year of reading this wonderful comic! It’s truly brightened my week since then, and damn I love this story!
Anyways, smug bastard Erin is back??? Yes please, finally a situation where it’s warranted and helpful-
@rai626 wait that seems more like discontinuity than art style evolution o_0 the only characters whose eyes glow/change are those channelling gods to fuel their magic (ie Alinua, the Junior Archivist) as opposed to characters who draw on their own power (Tess 1.2.26, Shrike 1.14.10) And you’re right, Erins eyes dont change. In this chapter specifically, especially panel 5, it’s apparent his eyes are reflecting the light of his magic, which theyve done before (1.9.28, 1.14.26) and thats all well and good. But in from 1.15.11-1.15.12 they clearly change colour??
F*ck yeah, Erin! He gets to do something cool in a heroic capacity again! (I just hope Tynan won’t focus his attacks on him now; he’s a lot slower and squishier than Kendal. I’m not worried yet about Tynan attacking Tess, since to Tynan, she’s just been a minor annoyance so far.)
In panel 6, you can see the runic circle Erin mentally invokes to cast the lightning shield. (On a similar topic, I bet he misses the safety goggles he wore into The Storm right about now…)
Decoded the spell scripts now.
Life circle is the classic sealing script, i.e. “MENDING, SEAL THE POWER SAFELY”.
The Lightning script is more interesting. It should read “POLARIZE SHIELD; REJECT SELF, DIVERT OTHER”
i don’t think i’ll ever understand people like kendal. isn’t the whole point of friends and social groups that when you need help there are people who can help you? though, as an antisocial person with currently 0 friends, my observation that is definitly more analytical than emotional is probably off. mostly i’m just drowning in confusion.
also i was going to post this wednesday but i wasn’t sure of who made the fire and how effective it was but:
tynan used teleport
it was effective
erin used blast burn
it was super effective
this is one that i’ve had for a while but didn’t post for some reason:
tynan and kendal both used swords dance
. . . it was varying degrees of effective
does anyone know any moves that i could use for the magic erin does on this page? mostly i’m stuck on the electric shield.
I’m thinking this is gonna go sour and the shadow dragon is gonna make an appearance. If the junior archivist IS carrying around the actual light dragon, this would be the sensible time for her to put in an appearance. Then, while they’re fighting, Tynan will attempt to reform- and then Dainix will cook him with soul fire.
Now let’s see just how far off the mark I am this time. XD (Kudos to Red for staying hard to predict, though!)
@Setras So, sorry to bring this up on a page that doesn’t really connect, but I have either spotted a story hole, or I think the paladin’s are kind of sus.
First off, the light dragon, despite having the established ability of instant telepathy, has not told the paladin organization at large about the void dragon’s revival since June was pretty chill when Erin brought up the topic. So why is this huge thing being kept so hush hush?
Secondly, If the light dragon knew that the destruction of the storm would release the void dragon, the biggest baddest thing the paladins have sworn to defend against, and the prevention of which was the founding reason for their whole order, why was no one posted near the area to act as an immediate response? I mean, the floof squad has been walking on foot and stopping places for days at a time, and everyone has been doing crazy unsubtle magic. Thus, anyone with a horse-like creature who was marginally okay at tracking should have caught up with them by now if they were in anyway close to the storm. Instead, the apparently one person who she thought to tell, has been flying at speed for days and still hasn’t caught up with the group, meaning he was posted very far away.
Thirdly, and this is less of a problem but I think it would be nice to have addressed. If the light dragon, who has also had centuries to devote to preventing the resurrection of the void dragon and studying the storm knew, or even suspected, that the storm could only be destroyed by an Elemental Magus, something Erin realized instantly, then why did no one in the paladins assign someone to follow this potentially world-ending guy?
Now, here is my conspiracy that (sort of) answers the second and third questions: Tess is part of the paladins. She has been with Erin since he was young (acting as a spy for the order?) and was literally at the storm looking for Erin when he dispelled the storm (posted there to prevent him from doing so?). Of course, this breaks down when you consider that the light dragon only communicated with the dragon Tess was fighting and not her so I admit this theory ain’t air tight. Still, she is connected to dragons so I haven’t ruled this out in my mind.
I should note that these questions aren’t deal breakers or anything for the rest of the story but I really hope that Red addresses them later when we get more into the paladins. Thoughts any one?
The Aceassin: you’re using my gooooooodraaaaaaa
Bluefire: yesterday in english we had to write about a time we experienced self-pity, and i could not remember a single time i had ever experienced self-pity. i debated making something up (something i did frequently throughout elementary and middle school when doing such a assignment), but in the end i decided to write ‘as far as i can remember i have never felt self-pity’ and then turned the rest of the assignment into speculation/analysis on what is required to feel self-pity.
I think the joke (for lack of a better term) is that Kendal keeps forgetting that he has a friend group that can help him with things, because he’s used to (through leftover Vash influence) being the one doing the protecting, and doing so on his own. Plus there’s still the thing where he’s still only a couple weeks old and hasn’t quite figured out he’s more than a weapon, or that it’s okay to show vulnerability and ask for help when you need it (the latter is something that I admittedly have issues with, though in my case it’s probably a mixture of stubbornness, pride, and inadvertently being taught by the public school system that asking for help gets you absolutely nowhere. In Kendal’s case it’s probably because it’s literally never occurred to him (again, give the guy a break for being a couple weeks old and still learning his own limits))
To Sandeon:
I’m a bit rusty on my DnD, but isn’t there a thing high-level wizards can do where they pick one low-level spell they know really well and gain the ability to cast it as a cantrip? Because that might be what Erin’s done, especially if he’s the one who invented the spell in the first place.
Could be wrong, though. Plus at this point he’s multiclassed into (reluctant) warlock, so he might not actually have that ability, or even be able to get it anymore (assuming that any further levels are being put into warlock instead of wizard).
To alolanvulpix:
I would suggest Mirror Coat, since that catches special moves (like Thunder) and returns them to the user with interest (as opposed to Counter, which does the same for physical moves). Granted, the shield is usually limited to the one using Mirror Coat unless they step in front of the one they are trying to protect, but the anime has occasionally depicted the shield as a force field projected in front of/around the use (Jessie’s Wobbufett, Suicune in ‘For Ho-oh the Bells Toll), so Erin’s version isn’t unreasonable.
This is a response to Bibbly Bio
I’m pretty sure the light dragon has told the organisation at large, as she told her champion that she’s ‘sending a message to the paladins in the area‘ . It might just be that June is too low ranking to have been told this information seeing as she’s currently working as a receptionist. Plus they probably weren’t expecting the dark dragons avatar to just waltz right into his enemies inner sanctum.
They might well have posted people near the storm for a situation such as this, but the light dragon also told her champion that ‘the avatar is shrouded from my sight’, so it’s not that simple to find them. While they have been doing lots of unsubtle magic, the only magic they’d be on the look out for would be the void dragons magic, which Erin hasn’t let loose since the caves. Alinuas magic, while unusual, isn’t really what they’re looking for.
All in all, it seems like the biggest hurdle for the paladins in finding Erin is that this situation looks nothing like the scenario they’ve been expecting for all these millennia. Instead of heading right for the caves and cutting a swaith of destruction throughout the land on his way there, he’s not using his void magic at all and is travelling with a group of decidedly not dead friends and stopping off in one of their own cities to access their own archive.
Ipwhile its an interesting theory, I don’t really think that your Tess theory would make much sense. Not was she not directly contacted by the light dragon, but she also only gained her lightning powers and her independence as a young adult or teenager, as a child she lacked a spark.
That being said, it is funny that the paladins never kept more of a watch on the elemental mAgus. My own theory is that in the lands that the paladins have more influence or directly control, they do keep a closer eye on any elemental magus that happen to be born there, but in lands which they don’t control(which would probably be most since they are considered a minority cult) they wouldn’t really have the authority to do much. Asera probably wouldn’t appreciate an organisation bothering their citizens, especially which the opinion the mage academy has of the paladins organisation
I just checked his intro pages and they actually do–it’s just a lot more subtle than it is here (and harder to see due to the fact that he’s casting a lightning shield in a lighting-filled area, so everything’s yellow anyway). Although I did see mention on the Tumblr page something about power creep and Erin no longer needing to hold back…
But it could also be that the Void Dragon also has something to do with it–I thought for longer than I probably should have that his base eye color had darkened due to being possessed, and that the hazel-ish color from the early page was the original shade. (Likewise, I had thought that his hair had started more brown than it currently is. In hindsight it’s a little embarrassing, but this is a fantasy world so who knows what’s (within reason) possible?)
Uh… What…?
What kind of English class do you take? I have never really been required to do such a thing and would be at my wit’s end wondering what I could possibly make of it.
OMG I love Erin getting a chance to be smug, capable and snarky. Kendal has the best friends and I love them all so much – tho not quite as much as I love Kendal.
WHEN DID ERIN GET SO FREAKING COOL?! First the bit with the ice, and now this! He so smooth! At first I thought he was an arrogant ass hole, but now I see he’s also flipping brilliant! A heroic magnificent bastard? Yup, that’s him all over!
Bluefire: i have the standard sophomore english class at my school, but right now we’re reading ‘tuesdays with morrie’ and part of reading it is doing worksheets where we analyze some of the stuff morrie says. that particular day we read the part of the book where morrie says he feels self-pity in the mornings and limits it to the mornings only, and we had to describe a time when we felt self-pity and compare our reasons to morries.
@Bibbly Bio: As for the first point, I think she (Light Dragon) stated in the conversation with her champion that she doesn’t have easy acces to comunicate with other members of the paladins as she has with him, but I’m not entirely sure.
@Sandeon
@RobK
If we’re talking about which D&D races they’d be I think Erin’s just a really mix-maxed human but Kendal’s a kalashtar if we’re allowed to use non-base game stuff.
I love how Tess can sense what Tynon is doing before he does it and Erin can just react with little input, They are a good team here. I hope Tess and Alinua get some girl talk time in future episodes!
@Goshawkpatronus You do make a good point that the paladins wouldn’t be looking for the elemental magus but a possessed wave of darkness, and your explanation for why the paladins didn’t take more measures to ensure Erin didn’t fall into the void dragon’s trap does hold water if they didn’t have the ability set up undercover operatives in Asera. I do think my Tess theory is probably wrong. However, just because she didn’t have a spark doesn’t mean she couldn’t follow orders or complete tasks, that was why she was still sold as a slave to Erin’s family since she was still capable of actions so long as they were directed, so if she had received prior instructions by the paladins before she was sold she would actually be a pretty good spy since no one would suspect a child. Again, 95% sure that I am wrong but I still think it is a interesting theory.
I do think that June’s role is a little bit more than a receptionist though since she was entrusted with the vault and is connected with the light dragon to some extent since she is able to preform light magic. However, even if she was the lowest ranked member, it still doesn’t make sense to hide the fact that the void dragon has returned from members of their organization since that is the main reason for their existence.
I think I just need some kind of in world explanation for why the news hasn’t traveled faster or why a messenger would have to be sent anyway if telepathy is something archivists can do fairly easily. Perhaps there is some limit on the distance of the spell?
Bibbly Bio:
1) It seems that telepathy, except between The Light Dragon and people she’s forged a strong soul link with like her champion, is fairly short-range.
1 and 2) She did say that she would send a messenger to the paladins in the area, so it’s established that she can’t tell everyone herself and that there are paladins near The Storm who would be on high alert.
2) As others have said, Erin hasn’t done what the paladins expected him to. When he went into the archive, all the junior archivist knew was that he was Aseran nobility, not the elemental magus specifically (he didn’t even give her his name). He’s been stealthy and careful, the exact opposite of what the paladins are looking for.
3) From what we can infer from Erin’s opinion and the junior archivist talking smack of the Aseran mage academy, the paladins hold very little influence in Asera, meaning they would have no access to his home or his research for espionage purposes (even putting the moral issues of stalking people aside).
We’re still in the early stages of the story, so the paladins are going to stay at least a little mysterious for a while. I trust that we will see their methods further down the line (especially considering that the champion is looking to be an eventual antagonist).
“If you wanted to fight your battles alone you shouldn’t have made so many friends.”
That is such a fantastic response to someone trying to pull an edgelord.
“I was sidetracked by a storm god attacking the city and attempting to murder you” in Kendal’s defense, Erin, you were kind of sidetracked before that anyway…
Most of what I remember of (high school) Sophomore English class was the horrible teacher telling me not to write because I couldn’t POSSIBLY be good at something I enjoyed. Man I want to sock that jerk in the face. We basically had to read a bunch of depressing books about women getting oppressed. Each one more depressing than the last. Because apparently “honors” classes mean “hard” material and “hard” material just means “dark, grim, depressing, hopeless”. I’m so glad it’s over.
Was there any other theme to that particular choice of reading material, or did your teacher just have issues? Because while I’ll admit I didn’t take any honors classes (really should’ve though, in hindsight), I don’t recall having to read anything darker or more depressing than some of the usual high school fare (Fahrenheit 451, Frankenstein, Of Mice and Men, Unwind–now that one was fun). Heart of Darkness wasn’t something I touched until college. Admittedly, my eighth grade teacher had some darker stuff in her classroom library (among them The Tomorrow Code and Maus), but those were for students to read at their leisure if they do chose. If I recall, you could get a couple extra credit points for “checking out” and reading a certain number of books from the shelf and turning in your bookmark/”library card” at the end of term . What you read was up to you.
I am definitely anticipating this fight to involve a void dragon yelling at and maybe stabbing Tynan to not murder his vessel. Though I don’t know where the void dragon would get a knife. Maybe a metaphorical stabbing. Then maybe we’ll have June show up and do something cool. Or maybe try to kill Erin, which is less cool, but still interesting.
Skye:
As far as I can recall, not really. Just
1: women are being oppressed
2: now they want to commit suicide
3: that’s bad
But then again, I spent the whole class wishing I could flip off the teacher without getting in trouble. I had some… Troubling thoughts that year because I am a very visual learner and thus pictured all the worst things, because I had to read them. The teacher made it worse.
Me and some other kids agreed that it sucked, we tried to change the curriculum and even some of the staff tried. Whoever writes it is a bit of a jerk and wouldn’t listen to any criticism.
I had to read Of Mice and Men in eighth grade. A middle or high school (forgot) summer reading prompt included some of those other books, too. I went through this all more recently so I’m wondering if there’s a trend towards “harder” stuff earlier? If there is I hate it. Teens are already depressed enough as is, I feel that shoving these books in their faces will just make things worse. And people wonder why mental health issues are so prevalent…
It’s funny how we all had these theories about like parallels and glowy power-ups (Mostly involving Kendal), and of all people, ERIN is the one best suited to fight Tynan.
I mean, he’s cool, and definitely powerful, but I guess I just expected the answer to be more… revolutionary.
Also, happy Earth Day and Day of Silence, everyone (As of yesterday, at least)
@Bluefire It’s a combination of factors. Most of them are living a very unhealthy lifestyle when it comes to diet, screen time and especially social media, exercise and sleep. This isn’t me saying that it’s all their fault – it’s the world that they’ve grown up in. And they’re hearing so many things about wars and politics and the world is other global issues, often exaggerated. It must be overwhelming to be ten years old or younger and frequently be told that the world could end in your lifetime and it probably will. Oh, and the educational system is a mess. All of this was the case before we had COVID-19 and the resultant lockdowns exacerbate all the aforementioned issues. But don’t worry! Kids are also getting lots of uplifting inspirational messages… that are often garbage that sounds nice but isn’t truthful or helpful. You can do anything if you put your mind to it! Well, no, of course that’s not true. Be who you are on the inside! Except ‘who you are’ means ‘a collection of superficial traits’, such as ‘I’m gay/bisexual/transgender/etc’. On a tangential note, a significant number of kids and teens who claim to be so are just conforming to peer pressure, perceived or otherwise. … where was I going with this comment? I need to wrap it up now anyway.
Ah yes. “Inspirational messages”. “Be who you are”.
Okay. So I’ll be a plant loving antisocial nerd who gets teased for face blindness and punched for liking anything besides what the bullies like (especially when it’s about what video games people play). I’ll get ganged up on by the whole class because I’m the one person who likes dragons more than unicorns. Got it.
Okay, just gonna preface this by saying that comments online can be hard to interpret because there’s no face and tone attached for context clues, so I’m not trying to either fly off the handle or provoke anyone else into doing so–especially since we’ve all agreed that this is supposed to be a supportive, wholesome corner of the internet even if we have differences in our opinion. This being said:
The Registrar:
Much of what you said is true. The younger generations are facing a lot of pressures–a lot of systems that their parents and grandparents benefitted from are failing them, and they were raised to believe that these systems would be there for them, too (like Social Security), and that with hard work and determination and being a decent person and doing the right thing, they would be able to live the American Dream, too (or their country’s equivalent). Instead, they’re coming into adulthood in a world far more troubled than they were told they would have, and whose politics seem set on denying them these things that they want and need. And they are being told that for wanting change so that they can have what they have worked for, they are entitled and childish, and responsible for the problems that they are inheriting–problems that they may have no choice but to eventually pass in to their children despite the fact that they would do anything to avoid doing so. In many cases, it is the problem of being told as children that these things are not their concerns, only to be suddenly told the reverse with no warning and preparation upon reaching majority.
And it is frustrating–the climate is one of those things, where an elementary-age kid can find mention of it in their library and yet grown adults are determined to quash all concerns, instead seeming set to drain the planet dry so that they can maintain their lifestyle at the expense of their children and grandchildrens’ futures. To know that your future has been spent before you were even born, let alone old enough to have a voice–as it seems more and more likely that the point of no return has already passed–is a heavy burden to bear.
That being said– I cannot agree with your opinion on the reasoning as to why so many kids and teens are identifying as being LGBTQ+. I believe it’s less peer-pressure to be such and more the acceptance of people to be those things–in other words, a lack of peer pressure to be “normal”. Childhood and adolescence are times of change and self-discovery–of figuring out who you are, and gender and sexual identity are huge parts of that. And it can be confusing, if something about you doesn’t “fit” the societal definition of normal. All these young people declaring themselves LGBTQ+? They’ve found something that describes them and their experiences, and it helps them understand themselves. And it’s possible now to be open about it without immediately being ostracized or worse–not always, of course, because acceptance and the changing of culture is a slow process and minds and hearts can be impossible to change–but in many cases. And for those people, it’s a godsend.
I say this as someone who has struggled with understanding themselves for years– growing up I didn’t necessarily share the interests of my same-gendered peers and was considered strange for it. I’ve always seen myself as myself, but it wasn’t until my teens that I realized that there were aspects of my gender and it’s societal expectations that I didn’t experience. I thought I was perhaps just a late bloomer, and it was leftover self-image issues from the bullying I experienced at the onset of adolescence, but once I got into college and being LGBTQ+ was a more approachable subject, I realized that if I was such, that might explain some of what was going on. Not all of it–I know some of it is still self-image issues, and it’s possible that some of it could be medical (due to certain conditions that are part of my family history), but some of it nonetheless. And knowing that .. Well, there are some things that it complicates, but knowing still helps, because if nothing else I have a name for what I am.
Anyway, bit of a tangent myself, but I guess where I was going with that is that I respect your opinion even if I disagree, but the way it’s worded can come across as callous and insensitive, and people may take offense at it because it feels that you’re attacking them even if you don’t mean for your words to be read as such.
To Bluefire:
As a fellow oddball having experienced similar things, my sympathies. I’d really like to say that things will get better once you get into higher levels of education, but that both assumes I know where in said path you are (which I don’t), and that I can guarantee that it will (which I can’t, because while I know what my experience was like, using that to predict yours would be extremely arrogant). You have my hopes that your experience improves, though.
And…Again, I’m not sure that The Registrar meant for their words to read the way they did. As I mentioned before, without context clues it’s hard to tell tone, or if that’s their actual opinion, or if they’re trying to be sarcastic, or what. And while I’m not happy with the wording, either, they are entitled to an opinion here, too. So please keep that in mind when you reply to them? I know I’m not myself the best at holding my tongue until I understand a situation, so I might be a bit of a hypocrite here in my reply, but again… Please keep it civil?
I do appreciate the fact that Erin’s earlier lack of humility has turned out to be for a couple damn good reasons. It’s still nice for him to achieve character growth – especially being stymied by something as straightforward as a library clerk – but it’s also fun to have someone who thinks they’re hot shit because a lot of the time they kind of ARE.
Yeah, tone can be hard to read. I was joining in the sarcasm by giving an example of how the “positive messages” pushed in everyone’s faces in school might not be too beneficial. While I do disagree with the comment about LGBTQ+ folks the person I replied to made, I did not respond to that in an effort not to light a huge fire, those topics can be a bit sensitive. I figured since I’m rubbish at wording things, a respectful disagreement would be easily misread. Guess I’m still rubbish at words haha.
I think it’s interesting how among the first things both Tess and Dainix hear Kendal say is “I’m sorry.” to something that isn’t his fault but they react quite differently to it
Words can be hard–I’ve fallen victim to tripping over my tongue quite a few times because I can’t quite find the right words to convey my thoughts.
And on topics like this, it can be even harder to make sure the right words are chosen, and the right tone conveyed. I am… glad that this situation isn’t as volatile as it first seemed (and if I overstepped I am sorry), and I hope that it stays that way, no matter what is further said.
@Sykes @Bluefire Thank you for responding so reasonably. I wasn’t attacking anyone but I definitely need to choose my words better. I said that identifying as transgender is a superficial trait, which makes it sound like I think it’s got nothing to do with mental health. I will point out that I said ‘a significant number’ not ‘a large number’. We could try to have a productive discussion but I don’t even have the time for that right now, so I won’t say anymore.
I have an idea – the guy with the soul fire (sorry I’m really bad with names) could try defeating the storm if his soul fire is anything like star fire – he could use his anger on him!
Ooh, smug bastard Erin is here, can’t wait
Woo!
Finally, time for Erin to pop off more! And of course he’s smug about it. 😛
I really want to read those spells, but I can only make out a few of the runes. T_T
Bring the cavalry.
Easy defense from the storm.
Return of the Glorb.
hey there’s a glitch! if you press the back arrow there wont be a front arrow so you can only get to this page if you press the aurora logo or through the archive.
scratch that. you can’t get it from the archive either…
Ah, love to see Erin finally able to go all out. Enjoy it while it lasts, cause Dainix’s sure gonna outsine him.
OH DAMN, IT’S TIME TO REALLY FIGHT A GOD
You know, I only today realized Erin’s eyes change color depending on what magic he’s using…
@Anonymous i think it usually does that, it just takes a little while to update
so you’re saying that wizards are more powerful than fighters, erin? is that what you’re saying?
I love this banter. Also, cool, that lightning sheild is back.
erin is so god damn smug in that last panel
dear gods i love their casual banter
Glorb will forever be immortal!
Do Erin’s eyes look different?
Man I love when Erin gets to actually back up his hubris a bit.
And yes, Kendal, this is clearly a raid level boss, you’re going to need a full party for this.
And Dainix is on the way, and Erin just demonstrated that fire works exceptionally well here, so on balance I don’t think Tynan is going to have a very good day today.
@Random Reader You can also enter page numbers into the URL, and that sometimes might take you to the newest page a little faster then the comic loads
Tynan: SMITE!
Erin: lol, lmao
“Umbrella” by Rihanna starts playing
Imagine the sting from the, oh idk, GIANT SLASH ON HIS BACK THAT HE”S CURRENTLY LAYING ON
F*ck yeah, Erin!
It should read “POLARIZE SHIELD; REJECT SELF, DIVERT OTHER”
@Sandeon
Lightning shield is clearly a reaction
I call dibs on ‘ascend ascend ascend with Glorb’
Ah, I’ve missed Erin’s smug smile.
i don’t think i’ll ever understand people like kendal. isn’t the whole point of friends and social groups that when you need help there are people who can help you? though, as an antisocial person with currently 0 friends, my observation that is definitly more analytical than emotional is probably off. mostly i’m just drowning in confusion.
also i was going to post this wednesday but i wasn’t sure of who made the fire and how effective it was but:
tynan used teleport
it was effective
erin used blast burn
it was super effective
this is one that i’ve had for a while but didn’t post for some reason:
tynan and kendal both used swords dance
. . . it was varying degrees of effective
does anyone know any moves that i could use for the magic erin does on this page? mostly i’m stuck on the electric shield.
@Sandeon Wouldn’t healing hands mean he’s a aasimar though? I mean, I’d be stoked for that.
I love regular reminders how TERRIFYING Elemental Magus is.
Alolanvulpix:
Erin used protect!
The opposing Tynan used thunderbolt!
Erin protected himself!
Also confused on the friend thing as another antisocial person who analyzes things without factoring in emotion.
YES KENDAL INVOKE THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP
Wait. How did I not notice that Erin’s eye color changes according to what element he is using?
Praise Glorb!
The Aceassin: you’re using my gooooooodraaaaaaa
Bluefire: yesterday in english we had to write about a time we experienced self-pity, and i could not remember a single time i had ever experienced self-pity. i debated making something up (something i did frequently throughout elementary and middle school when doing such a assignment), but in the end i decided to write ‘as far as i can remember i have never felt self-pity’ and then turned the rest of the assignment into speculation/analysis on what is required to feel self-pity.
alt text: return of the Glowy Orb, or as I refer to it, The Glorb
*happy noises* THEM! FRIENDSHIP! I’ve missed this.
Storm gods really hate people who are well grounded.
Thus continues the tale of Erin and Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Weekend
To alolanvulpix, Bluefire:
To Rai626:
Alolanvulpix:
Erin… not who I expected the fire to be from but neat.
@Sandeon
@RobK
OK but can we take a second to appreciate Tess’s immediate reaction to Kendal being Kendal is: “Oh, he’s fun.”
@HermitThrush I agree wholeheartedly 😀
On another note, also agreeing with everyone about smug Erin being lots of fun and nice to see him backing that hubris upp!
Alolanvulpix:
Most of what I remember of (high school) Sophomore English class was the horrible teacher telling me not to write because I couldn’t POSSIBLY be good at something I enjoyed. Man I want to sock that jerk in the face. We basically had to read a bunch of depressing books about women getting oppressed. Each one more depressing than the last. Because apparently “honors” classes mean “hard” material and “hard” material just means “dark, grim, depressing, hopeless”. I’m so glad it’s over.
Do Erin’s irises change color when he’s using magic?
To Bluefire:
What you read was up to you.
it would seem so
I LOVE that expression in the last panel!
Archive binged the entire comic. Great stuff!
Erin: Remember, he may be a god, but I’m ME.
I just realiaze, Erin’s eyes change color when he used magic
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megamind
My question is Red = Lady professor who cut the math knots?
Seen in the bottom two panels: Erin saves Kendal from the lightning rod he’s brandishing in a battle with a storm god.
this is definitely gonna end with yet another dragon vs storm god confrontation huh :V
GLORB!
^to add to what I said before:
A new arena
The lightning strikes back
Return of the Glorb
-A perfect trilogy
The Registrar:
Got it.
To Bluefire, The Registrar:
It’s still nice for him to achieve character growth – especially being stymied by something as straightforward as a library clerk – but it’s also fun to have someone who thinks they’re hot shit because a lot of the time they kind of ARE.
the Glorb
rich, smart-ass, smug, floofy, need to get even more smart-assy, erin would definetly be a ravenclaw and i dare you to argue with me on this.
Skye:
Yeah, tone can be hard to read. I was joining in the sarcasm by giving an example of how the “positive messages” pushed in everyone’s faces in school might not be too beneficial. While I do disagree with the comment about LGBTQ+ folks the person I replied to made, I did not respond to that in an effort not to light a huge fire, those topics can be a bit sensitive. I figured since I’m rubbish at wording things, a respectful disagreement would be easily misread. Guess I’m still rubbish at words haha.
I think it’s interesting how among the first things both Tess and Dainix hear Kendal say is “I’m sorry.” to something that isn’t his fault but they react quite differently to it
To Bluefire:
We could try to have a productive discussion but I don’t even have the time for that right now, so I won’t say anymore.
time travel trope talk.
I love how red actually makes the content and then over analyzes it herself
All this time apart made me forget the absolute masterpiece of a chemistry between them
GLORB!
I officially love the glorb. ?
I have an idea – the guy with the soul fire (sorry I’m really bad with names) could try defeating the storm if his soul fire is anything like star fire – he could use his anger on him!
i’ve probably posted this before but i love how erins eyes reflect/glow as the colour of the element he’s using
loving erin’s subtle eye colour change, dunno if its just reflective or its actually changing
