your surprised tynan, really? he may not be vash but vash designed his war body to protect innocents, he did so so well that it still wants to without vash. of course he’s gonna attack.
also navigation for this page isn’t working through clicking the comic/using the buttons. it works for the other pages but to get to this one I have to click the aroura icon
It’s going to be good to see Kendal going all out like he did against the stone guardian but even more extreme. Tynan says that the sword is just a hunk of metal is Kendal’s hands, but we’ll have to see if that’s true won’t we!
Tynan: Oh I’m sorry; I didn’t know we were starting. Here, allow me.
Kendal’s hair is still looking pretty good but something tells me exhaustion and the rain ought to flatten it down as the fight goes on. Would serve as a visual metaphor for his growing sense of hopelessness while Tynan stays fresh and unchanged.
So this confirms that the Starmetal sword is, while great at monster slaying and so-so at breaking rocks, can’t hurt Tynan seriously when wielded by a non-god. Falst can’t do much better than Kendal, Alinua could mitigate some damage but not stop him, so it’s up to the Ruunasers and Dainix, maybe a newly incarnated Zuurith too, to stop him. (Maybe Big Z could end up using the sword)
I guess the “Talk s**t, get hit” rule doesn’t matter when your body can reform itself so easily and rapidly. Still the sudden nature of Kendal’s attack did catch Tynan off-guard; like many gods he seems to have fallen for the assumption that Kendal is just like Vash. At least Kendal should help keep him distracted for the others to formulate their attacks.
i’m sorry (i’m not sorry) to continue the dietary discourse from the last page but broccoli is amazing, and so is cauliflower (though i’ve not had cilantro, or coriander as i would call it) and the stems are the BEST part when they’ve been cooked and softened right. and oak milk is lovely, although some brands have far too much sugar to be healthy
Aahhhhh so many great details! Small sparks of electricity covering kendal in the second panel, the prison off in the distance, bits of Tynan still taking time to fully form. The art is FANTASTIC
Tynan seems to have a serious issue with grabbing people’s wrists with his hands. Why he seems to prefer electrocuting people this way is unknown, but I think it’s something he really needs help dealing with.
Your flight to butt-kickin’ mountain has landed. Thank you for flying Tynan lightning-lines.
I suspected that they’d go to a more open area. I’d bet they’re just outside the city walls, so that people can look out and watch the fight. Little concerned with how we can stop a storm god– the Ruunaser sibs might be able to do something, but they’re not close. The closest are Falst and Alinua, I think, since they’re following the birb, and I’m not sure they could do much more than chip damage and healing. Heck, I’m not sure Kendal can do much more than chip damage, though I think that Tynan is underestimating that sword in his hands. He assumes Kendal is just a mortal, but evidence suggests that he’s sort of a demigod. We’ll have to see. Before we get any cool Kendal moments we’ll likely get a lot of “Tynan kicking the crap out of Kendal” moments.
Tynan: “You sly dog, you caught me monologuing!
I wonder if Tess or Erin could possibly overload/water-log Tynan in some way, though considering how powerful he has been foreshadowed to be, it might be unlikely.
@AMJ: Kendal losing his namesake, huh? Sounds kinda poetic.
@veggiesnake: I concur with all of those sans oat milk, due to the fact that I have never tried it.
The fact that Tynan can control his arm even after it’s severed implies a level of durability and adaptability beyond anything Kendal will be able to deal with. I suddenly wonder if the sword is gonna get broken here, and the group will need to go looking for more.
Still kinda banking on Erin ultimately needing to embrace and use Void magic to win the day, and all that that’d bring in consequence.
Oh sh*t. If Tynan has that degree of control and regeneration over his severed body, then it’s no wonder Vash nearly lost. Chip damage won’t work here, it has to be all or nothing.
Goldfinch:
Actually, based on the far left of the first panel here and the Ruunasers’ view from the last page, Tynan and Kendal are outside the city, just beyond the north gate. Erin and Tess are closest, while Falst and Alinua (and Dainix too) are in the middle of the city and have to go all the way back through to get to them. Perhaps the message spell will fly through the gate, pointy-eared chaos duo in tow, prompting the Ruunasers to follow and deliver some intervention, with Dainix following a few minutes behind. Team boss fight? Oh yeah, it’s all coming together.
@InsertPunHere Navigation is working OK for me now, is it still broken for you? If it’s working now, you probably got here just as the new page was uploaded. I’ve noticed that happening with several webcomics I read – immediately after a new page appears, it’s there on the homepage, but the navigation buttons can’t access it yet. I guess it takes a few minutes to add a new item to the list of pages or whatever happens behind the scenes.
To join @veggiesnake in continuing the food discussion I almost missed…
From a young age, I outright refused to eat clam chowder. Everyone else in my family loved it; I hated it with a burning passion (to the point that it carries over to other kinds of chowder). Lucky for me, my parents were willing to let me have other stuff instead.
Turns out I’m mildly allergic to shellfish. The reason I disliked it was because it made me sick, and I was subconsciously picking up on that.
@AMJ
Losing his right hand? It would be a bit poetic. Then we could have a callback moment to when Vash lost his right hand and left (I think?) eye. And the sword could take the place of the hand and the eye, just like it did then.
Also, I checked, Tynan grabbed Kendal’s right hand in the last frame.
*chanting* FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Tynan is highly theatrical & I have a feeling that Kendals only going to win because Tynan feels like toying with him/abusing him to get more fear out of the population, might stall for long enough until backup arrives… gl, Kendal
Kendal used Slash! It hits! But its not very effective…
Cauliflower is nice, but it goes bad real quick. I have a preference for crunchy things, so I like the stems just cooked so I can crunch them. The reason I don’t like plant based milks is often because of the texture, but for coconut milk it’s simply that I don’t like coconut.
Other crunchy tings I enjoy are cookies ( I don’t mind them chewy either though), potato chips, fries (I pick out the thinnest and give the rest to dad), some fruits- apple, grapes, dragon fruit, watermelon. Things like that.
Odd, how we work. In middle school I did some sort of genetics activity in which I found out I was genetically predisposed to enjoy broccoli.
I originally read that sound effect as “chirp” which you’d think would take away the impact of it but actually ended up evoking Chidori from Naruto and it kinda worked.
I just want to remind Tynan that Kendal is named after that sword: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-3-36/ and Kendal (the human looking one) have already shown a connection with the sword e.g. the times he’s used it to search for Vash, so I wouldn’t be so sure about the “just a hunk of metal” thing if I were him. Guessing it will take quite a bit of fighting for Kendal to figure out how to properly use it though.
interesting how tynan took kendal away from the arena, almost like he isn’t so confident in a victory such that will scare the citizens after all…
had to remind myself that dainix has never met the rest of the floof squad and kendal has never met tess…
@veggiesnake in my head canon you drink milk made from oak trees now
@somebody don’t know about you but I’m picky when it comes to apples- if it isn’t crunchy enough I don’t like it.
I hope Alinua realizes that the people in the city need a way out, I don’t think her and Falst continuing to follow that BORB is the right course of action for them. Tynan has moved Kendal out of the city, so he is no longer in a position where he can protect the civilians, who could probably really use some massive, sturdy plant-based pathways well above ground level right about now. Erin and Tess, who might be able to hit Tynan, are probably a lot closer now, not to mention that their added mobility probably makes distance a moot point anyway.
And Kendal gets about two seconds to realize he may have miscalculated… A lot of people down here are speculating that he’s gonna lose that hand–I admittedly can see Tynan taking things that far out of spite, but I’m really hoping that the damage is limited to something that Alinua can fix. I don’t think amputations are included in that…
Although knowing Tynan and his desire to evoke fear, perhaps he’d get more out of it simply crippling Kendal’s right arm, rather than removing it? A horribly disfigured limb would probably get more of a reaction than an empty sleeve, and would probably be viewed differently (mark of a loss rather than a mark of survival)–thoughts?
To Somebody:
I’m a fan of a nice McIntosh myself. It’s a softer apple, but I love the flavor (and I’m admittedly not as fond of the crisper fruit)
I’m not sure if it’s just me being on mobile, but Tynan’s last speech bubble in panel 4 looks cut off. It just goes “Donyou really think y-“ and cuts off.
It does cut off. That was intentional to emphasize that Kendal’s attack was abrupt and unexpected. Tynan seemingly wanted to tease Kendal a little before getting to business and assumed that Kendal would just let him while he drowns a city in the background.
‘It’s nothing but a hunk of metal to you.’
Couldn’t be more wrong… Also, that’s not ALL the starmetal, the rest is in Kendal’s (the man) bones 😉
Maybe a powerup (towards the end of the fight of course, right before a defeat) is incoming?
So, theory. I’ve been re-reading a few of the earlier strips, and I think I might have made some connections:
When Alinua first healed Kendal after the green-eyes powerup, she comments about the makeup of his body, asking if Vash wove metal into his bones.
At the beginning of this arc, Tahraim comments to Caliban about how Vash “only realized the true potential of the starmetal under his city when I forced him to adapt”. (aside, since the city was built in a crater, it makes sense there was starmetal under it)
Just a few pages ago Tynan disintegrated Zuurith’s avatar and commented that Vash had built his “to last”.
So here’s what I’m thinking: Vash incorporated starmetal, from the crater, into the construction of his avatar. Kendal probably would have been superhumanly resilient anyway, but this would increase it, and may offer an explanation of why the destructo-beam that Possessed Erin hit him with way back when didn’t do significant damage. If true, Kendal may stand a chance against this storm god, perhaps even earning a power-up of his own once he realizes his potential!
I fear for the level-scaling after that arc…
Putting that aside
HOLYPHUQ THATS AWESOME, Red is a great artist!I binged all that series last weekend and was only lurking in the tall-grass waiting for the new post c:

How is Tynan so consistently awsome?
@hello haiku, seems someone else has a war body…
Heh, Tynan actually looks a bit caught off-guard. Will we finally, witness kendal’s true potential? This is going to be fun.?
It’s going to be good to see Kendal going all out like he did against the stone guardian but even more extreme. Tynan says that the sword is just a hunk of metal is Kendal’s hands, but we’ll have to see if that’s true won’t we!
The Art…………It’s just to gorgeous. The thunder and the action. woah.
Also. Why do I have the feeling that something is gonna happen to Kendal’s right hand?
they are just outside the walls, not even that far away. he could get backup.
but it probably won’t matter.
Tynan: Oh I’m sorry; I didn’t know we were starting. Here, allow me.

TL;DR: he swings… And he scores!
What’s this? The opposing side barely felt it! Looks like the fight’s about to get a bit more serious…

Tynan getting the “all talk” treatment 😀 tbh, it feels like he has much more respect for Kendal than for Zuurith

The Shadow Of Thunder can’t stop a Fair Blade, even if you tear its host with lightning.
Last arc: who is creating the monsters in the forest is it the wild ferin or the mysterious doctor.
This arc: fight a fucking storm god
So awesome! Red, why the sequence of cliffhangers.
