Tynan and Zuurith are my two favourite villains in the story so far (Walter is a close third), so this is great. Tynan seems to like the phrase “All talk”.
Ok I know this is a REALLY bad page to announce this because TYNAN, but has anyone noticed theres been a subtle rain effect ever since the bottom panel of this page: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-15-31/
Red’s added subtle weather effects like that before, when Kendal and Ali were in Windcrest.
I am here to appreciate Red’s artwork, and point out details people may have missed, thank you for your time.
Okay Tynan is INSIGHTFUL. Vash has been blustering based on his own values. He’s primarily shocking people because he’s breaking the edict rules for these situations: people don’t normally question Zurrith. Citizens are probably like, a combination of “Wait, some gods think like that? That’s an option?” and “we’ll gods are to be obeyed, not disrespected and questioned and defied! So inappropriate!”
But Tynan is cutting to a much more primal and personal observation for the people around, and for Zurrith. Pointing out direct failures, making the conversation relevant to the people listening (hey, YOU’RE in danger. And then ties that to a pattern of behavior based on Vash’s evidence). Plus he’s acting out the role people expect, rather than that of a rebel.
In short, Tynan just did amazing things for Vash’s cause. If he wanted to be a politician, he would be a force to be reckoned with.
TL;DR: God fight God fight
Time to watch two floofy jerks face off, wonder who else will join the chaos?
This is what happens when a snow day means you can sleep in but your inability to sleep means you can’t. You’re up early and bored so you check this webcomic and write comments.
No, Zuurith hated Vash because Vash was chaotic. Tynan is even more so. He’s an even more appropriate enemy for Zuurith than Kendal is. Plus, without any mortals, Zuurith would become a lot weaker. And he really seems to think as though his version of government is superior, and other cities should follow his example; he enjoys having people to subjugate with his system, that’s why he pulls in godless, bandits, and travelers like Dainix. It doesn’t just give him physical, divine power, but a real sense of power over others. I don’t think there’s any possibility of Zuurith aligning with Tynan here. His character is the embodiment of extreme order and reason, so he should generally always make the most predictable and probable decision.
Okay I’ve been following the comic for a while but never made an account to comment but WOW – that is a villain entrance! I am loving Tynan as a villain already and THIS REVEAL is just gold!
It probably says a lot that I’m cheering on the big bad guy at the moment. Like, I am worried about the people but if zuurith dies oh no that’s really sad let’s hope that doesn’t happen
“Girls, girls, please. You’re both pretty. Can I go home now?”
If I had a nickel every time this comic had a page that’d suit a Megamind quote I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
I have said the above statement for the sake of references, I am very sure there are several other pages that suit megamind quotes
BEST villain entrance -ever-! And such foofy masses of hair. OMG, Tynan is starting his confrontation with a bang! This is just SO awesome, Red! I am now officially worried off my arse about the safety of Kendal … heck of -everyone-, including a whole city of people I hadn’t really cared about until now!
Imagine being a spectator in that arena. There are two opposing forces, both dispassionate about your existence; the only difference is that one acts like it wants to protect you and the other is honest (about wanting to kill you). But there’s nothing one ordinary human like you can do except watch and hope you don’t become collateral damage.
I mean, I guess a lot of people have experiences like that, but usually those forces aren’t incarnated as figures who could literally punch each other.
This arc in a nutshell…
Kendal: *points at Pryder* “F*ck you,” *points at the arenamaster* “f*ck you,” *points at Zuurith* “f*ck you,” *points at Dainix* “you’re cool-”
Dainix: *gives a thumbs-up with his fire claw*
Kendal: *points at Tynan* “-and f*ck you, I’m out.”
If Kendal is tapping into his connection to Vash here, it makes me wonder what Vash thinks about this… I’m just imagining him in Stone’s third heart muttering “Ohhhhh, sh*t.” And The Collector turns around like “What was that?” before Vash hurriedly responds “Oh, it’s nothing. Carry on.” and finds some way to redirect the conversation.
However, I do see a second possibility for Kendal’s eye glow: perhaps he’s searching for some latent power left in his blade and jewel. They were, after all, what managed to mysteriously sunder Tynan the first time, so I think Kendal is hoping that their power doesn’t require Vash’s divinity to use, that the blade and jewel have innate power after being infused with Vash’s and Tahraim’s augmentations. Or, if the Sword and Man as One theory holds true, Vash and Kendal may be the only ones capable of using that power, as only their souls are attuned to the sword, and so the power would be coming from within Kendal himself, meaning that Kendal would be doing some soul searching here.
OHHHH SNAP
Here we go
It’s going down.
I don’t have anything relevant to say.
Just sitting in class when I’m supposed to be working, smiling my face off.
@TheUnknownGame
Yeah, that’s been my theory for a while now, that Kendal will use latent Vash-power combined with a sword specially made to kill this specific storm god. In fact, Kendal might be even more attuned to it than Vash was, if this is the kind of universe where names have power then having the same name, and the name referring to their connection with Vash, might make them more attuned.
Also, Friday cliffhangers.
This is going to be AMAZING.
My favorite part of the arena fight mini-arc is the announcer who is just really confused and kind of scared while trying to do his job. Like, look at that face when Zuurith jumps out of the announcer’s box! I hope he doesn’t get murdered. But, I mean, two cities completely killed in one comic is unlikely… right?
God Tynan is so cool. I really like how dramatic and villainous he is. It’s interesting that he repeated something he said to the grass god who he nerfed to Zuurith– “All talk. Always all talk. There was only one of you that could really back it up, and from what I’ve heard, he’s gone.” Also, he doesn’t seem too concerned with Kendal, calling him just a “fragile thing”. One has to wonder if he’s underestimating Kendal or if he’s right and there’s not much Kendal can do here. It seems like Kendal is willing to try, reaching for his sword and all. Huh, I wonder what Dainix is doing right now. Is he also going to try and punch a storm god? I can’t wait to see some GOD THROWDOWNNNNNNNNN even if I think Zuurith is gonna get his butt kicked.
People are saying that Zuurith might take Tynan on the offer, but honestly, I really don’t think so.
I have a strong feeling that Zuurith cares about *laws*, not “orderliness”, and laws only have meaning when there are people. That’s kind of what laws ARE – rules for the interaction between people. No people, no law. Zuurith Lawbringer is very unlikely to take an attempt at leaving him without people in stride.
Not that he probably has much of a chance against Tynan, but I do expect he will try.
Tynan: you’re a failure of a god
Zuurith: sorry for offending you, you are below me
Tynan: you got that the wrong way round, on which note would you be interested in my new Thanos-style philosophy
Dang he’s going to just ignore Kendal. Which I probably should have expected but somehow didn’t. Respect to Zuurith for the hop down; it’s not much but the hands-behind-the-back look makes him feel condescending as ** and I love it. Also, both of their color schemes are so BOLD and AHHH I love it 😀
@DragonCat: technically you don’t need an account to comment; I never got one. Partly why I joined the comments section in the first place, heh. Either way, welcome! 🙂
@ImuyanMangoCat: I wanted to remark on the last Megamind comment and never ended up doing it/lost the comment- but, look, another one! Massive respect for all three references, they fit perfectly. Tynan is what Megamind could have been if the latter threw all his morals out the window.
@HelloHaiku: didn’t even notice the announcer but you’re right, her facial expression is priceless, regardless of the fact that we can only see the top half of her face XD
That is likely one of the coolest entrances for an antagonist. Break up a loaded fight with an insane display of power, talk smack about the previously all-powerful other antagonist, and ignore the protagonist you originally came for. Damn this comic is good!
HOOO boy that’s uh. This is the single most terrifying page in the comic so far purely because of Tynan’s outright dialogue. Like there’s been just as bad if not worse things in this story before but not for a while, I think, and not so. Forthright. -shudder-
This is giving me hardcore “there’s no way this ends well” vibes. Like, the optimal outcome is of course Tynan being defeated with minimal collateral damage, but that’s still a somewhat sour note to end on— Zuurith won’t truly get his comeuppance in that case, and the things that happened in these past chapters alone may still be enough to plunge the city into a bit of chaos. And let’s say Zuurith does get his comeuppance and gets fucked up— no matter how satisfying it’d be to seed that might very well mean that the city gets essentially destroyed (and personally I doubt that our protagonists can take on Tynan themselves without suffering some serious Trauma). Every path I can think of right now points to this being, simply, a shitty situation that will probably end up with some aspects unresolved.
Which, to me, is awesome. I love watching shitty situations boil over. I love seeing heroes in over their head. This comic seems like it’s reached the perfect point for some truly serious shit to go down. Not that it hasn’t already, but, yknow, we’ve spent so much time in this city that there’s no doubting that It’s A Place For Very Important Plot-Stuff To Happen, and now it’s all coming to a head, and it’s wonderfully tense to read.
ooh had a thought. I think I saw some people speculating that Kendal is the vessel for Soul, the eighth element. To continue the themes of Protagonist Existential Crises (TM), what if he instead of a primordial he thinks it’s Vash, then gets super-confused about who/what he is? Long shot, I know, but could be interesting.
I didn’t think Tynan was actually going to make his big appearance here because . . . no matter how many people are at a stadium, more are probably outside of it, and when you’re a storm covering the sky of an entire city it feels like there are probably more efficient ways of announcing your presence. Like using the T.A. (thunder announcement) system or having your head poke out from the clouds like your God in Monty Python.
I do like how catty Zuurith is being. “Oh, I’m sorry, were you here? I didn’t notice you.” He knows exactly what Tynan wants and he’s not going to give it to him.
Yep. This announcer definitely does not get paid enough for this shit
Well, things are about to go pear-shaped. I love the setup here–ignoring, for the moment, the background action, we have the clash of ideals between Tynan and Zuurith. It’s ironic, but despite the setup as semi-foils for each other, they’re a bit more alike than I think either would care to have pointed out. I wonder if that’s part of why their designs share some similarities… The choice of their respective color schemes in contrast to the other is also a nice touch…
And ooh, we haven’t seen Kendal’s eyes glow that strongly in a while. I wonder if we’re going to get a look at his thought again in the next few pages, like when he faced the Sentinel in Chapter Three?
Yeah, I think the only other person with that sort of… personality and logic, let’s say, has been the Collector, and it’s been a while since we’ve heard from her. Plus she’s only got Vash to monologue to (and technically Kendal that one time), so even if she’s just as talkative about her goals it doesn’t quite have the same impact
To Hermit Thrush:
It would be interesting, true, but I honestly can’t see it happening. Assuming the Void Dragon is the embodiment of the seventh element, it would make the most sense for his counterpart the Light (Soul?) Dragon to be the same for the eighth, especially if some of the theories about their connection to the Twins hold water. Plus, the Light Dragon already has a chosen champion, and contrary to what the Collector seems to think, Alinua’s the confirmed Chosen of Life, and there doesn’t seem to be any evidence of a Primordial having more than one vessel, either out of choice or because they can’t due to some sort of Laws of Interference. Plus, all of Kendal’s abilities speak of a connection to Vash–nothing hints at a connection to a Primordial at all at this point, other than the fact that no one’s quite sure how he came to be.
And I’m going to be honest, I think making him a Primordial’s vessel at this point would either overcomplicate his backstory or push him into Mary Sue territory. Possibly both. And I really can’t see Red risking ruining her protagonist by trying to add another, possibly superfluous layer of divine intrigue to his character, especially considering how genre -savvy she is…
So the whole thing has gone of the rails already. There’s a demon loose in the arena, and now a storm-god that just announced he was gonna kill everyone in the city.
Any member of the audience who is still seating here, watching what happens, instead of running away is a dumbass.
So Tynan just calls Kendal a “fragile thing,” and immediately proceeds to ignore him and rile up Zuurith, which I find very odd. Kendal is a person that Tynan has every reason to ignore destroying a city to attack; he’s quite literally Tynan’s greatest failure incarnate, the last living shred of the one symbol of hope against him, and the proprietor and possibly the incarnate soul of the weapon that struck him down all those years ago, and yet Tynan seems completely unaware of this. Obviously he’ll probably figure it out in short order, but for now it’s very strange. Also I just remembered that Kendal was arrested for Vaguely Associated With Vash crimes /yesterday/ in story, poor dude’s had a rough 24 hours.
Well, yes but actually no. Kendal isn’t Vash, so comparitively, Kendal is pretty fragile; he’s a superhuman mortal body, but that’s still a considerable step-down from being a god. Right now, Zuurith is his main target, because he can get so much powerful from terrorizing the citizens. But you do raise a good point; I don’t think Tynan actually realises who Kendal is (yet). He’s not Vash, so I doubt that Tynan will be able to just ‘sense’ his backstory, and Tynan hasn’t been very interested in socialising with other gods since his return. But I do agree that Tynan is going to quickly recognise Kendal, the sword, and might even be clued into Kendal, the mortal’s, identity by Zuurith. That’s probably the biggest way Zuurith can be an asshole right now without being outright stupidly evil; not aligning with Tynan, but being like: “oh that? That’s Vash’s old body. He didn’t need it anymore, and now it’s wandered into my arena.”
“Think of how much more orderly your city will be without any people”
ALWAYS A PERFECT SOLUTION
bro’s got that Horde Prime logic
zero crime! zero taxation! zero unemployment!
Aaaand he’s here!
I feel as though Tynan is gonna teach Zuurith what happens when you get hit by lightning.
Oh… Oh, Tynan’s that kind of evil
FINALLY, TYNAN VS ZUURITH!
Oh ho ho, its going DOWN!
OH SNAP
Tynan is such a boss.
The attitude, the energy, lovely.
Oh heck
Haha youre all gonna die
Tynan and Zuurith are my two favourite villains in the story so far (Walter is a close third), so this is great. Tynan seems to like the phrase “All talk”.

the scary thing is zuurith might take him up on his offer
And do I spy some Vash glow in Kendal’s eyes in the 3rd to last panel?! Thank goodness for my Timezone so I’m usually early!
@Enbywith a beard
Yeah he probably would
The girls are fightiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.
Presentation indeed.
Oh! The disrespect!
Kendal reaches for his sword.
Tynan has a point.
(Bonus)
Announcer’s eyes just

is pretty funny.
Ah yes, invoking the greatest fear of all. The fear of a system which does not prioritize the well being of the people who maintain it
Okay Tynan is INSIGHTFUL.
Is this the kind of moment where the heroes and the former villain work together?? XD
Kendal got the glowy Vash eyes!
I’m also wondering if this will start turning some of Zuurith’s people against him.
Ah shit, he’s pulling out the Ultron logic.
God, I love tynan. He comes off as so smug and confident in his own power, you did spectacular with him Red.
When the evil power hungry storm god is calling you out for how bad you treat your people, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your actions.
Fluffiest hair yet! They’re literally clouds!
“At the end of the day, when all pretenses are shed, a divine body is just a body, and a storm is still a storm.”
TL;DR: God fight God fight

No, Zuurith hated Vash because Vash was chaotic. Tynan is even more so. He’s an even more appropriate enemy for Zuurith than Kendal is. Plus, without any mortals, Zuurith would become a lot weaker. And he really seems to think as though his version of government is superior, and other cities should follow his example; he enjoys having people to subjugate with his system, that’s why he pulls in godless, bandits, and travelers like Dainix.
To Leonidas1754:
Tynan’s attitude towards Kendal seems (to me) a bit like the Megatron – Bumblebee attitude that Red mentioned in the “Pure Evil” trope talk.
@Saurianne
Storm gods always making trouble, am I right? ?
DIMENSION 20 REFERENCE HECK YES
“Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for..”?
I hate to say it but tynan is kind of a daddy
Gotta love everyone dunking on Zuurith, letting him know how much of a knob he is.
mmmkay floating down is cool but imagine unincarnating and then reincarnating four feet in front of Tynan but like, at least 1.5x taller than him
Okay, “Then shatter” is a great line, buy can we talk about “rules are just politely worded threats of retribution violence”??!?
