Now that I’m re-reading this, I just noticed that aside from Erin, she’s the only other character who can use multiple elements of magic. Kendal also said that the previous elemental Magus died a long time ago, but if the collector is consuming souls, maybe she was the old magus. (Or I’m over analyzing everything and she has an earth lacrima hidden under that cloak)
So…. (spoiler warning)
Wasnt the point of crushing the city to kill the residents and release their essence from Vash because the Collector couldnt get his soul otherwise? But that actually doesnt happen because Kendal comes back and hears all their voices? I would call this a plot hole, but this is Red we’re talking about. Anyone have an answer?
The people’s souls got unanchored from their bodies, and couldn’t anchor cash any more, as far as I can tell
I thought that the city will become important later but nevermind. Every city shot demands a zoom in view.

you might already know this by now. I think it was clarified very recently. as in a month or two ago

@DragonMaster66 no idea if you’ll ever read this, but the Collector really didn’t care about the people’s souls AT ALL. Literally all she needed to do was destroy the city, as both a physical and social construct, so that Vash would become unanchored from it. All the inhabitants’ souls stuck around after they died, but they still DIED, ergo the city no longer exists, ergo the Collector’s needs have been met. The plot thread there is quite consistent, I think!
So essentially all this was about:
A murdery plot to get his soul out

Based on the way she talks, I think the collector is somehow related to Erin, like his mother or immortal great grandma or something
