The way the little borb just spins around in a cute little anxious circle waiting for him to come up, what does a girl need to do to get one of them as a pet *sob
(not that it’s anxious lol, but it reminds me of a puppy whose person just left the room)
So Erin sends entire paragraphs in a single text (even moulding the bird to look like him when received), while Falst sends multiple texts in short succession, sometimes with corrections.
Yep, we all know people irl who fall into these categories. (I’m in the first group, if it wasn’t already obvious)
Sorry Falst, I know it wasn’t intentional, but you’ve kinda put Kendal in a bad position, and still haven’t relayed the ‘volcano about to blow’ warning yet. You’re going to have to give that, and potentially another apology, in person.
At least make sure you hold onto that wind lacrima and stop spamming spellbirds; you might need it later.
Prediction for next week: With Vros still nicely distracted, hopefully they’re close enough to shore for Tess and Falst to act. While a lightning bolt on the water is likely, I’m going for a wilder prediction and have an angry Falst leap onto Vros’s face, trying to claw at their eyes.
Can i just say i love how Kendal looks with wavy hair? I mean sure the situation that led to him getting his hair wet is less than ideal but it really suits him!
Did you notice that Kendal (the person) is pointing Kendal (the sword) at the spellbird (the spellbird) in panel 1.
He didn’t imediately know it was a spellbird becouse it hit him on the back of his head and he definitely didn’t expect it so it must have startled him. Also the last time he saw a spellbird it was a bad thing. With both these things in mind his reaction makes sense.
I love panel 1 so much. The look on his face… the combat reflex…
I see what Red’s doing here… none of this is actually being played for laughs. It’s funny, sure, but basically the Floof Squad is experiencing what we call (in polite company) a “cluster problem,” and in that kind of situation, communication and situational awareness can spiral into chaos along with everything else. It’s very grounded! And the characters are all very much handling the situation as themselves, instead of taking their cues from Rule of Funny.
@Moss Oh, right, we have canon evidence for the Collector re-surfacing soon. Thanks, I forgot that!
Wuh-oh. Looks like Falst’s birb texts unintentionally distracted Kendal for the fight, although I have the sinking feeling Kendal would have been swatted by that tail regardless—and of course Falst had no idea Kendal was in the middle of a fight and needed to track him down. Hoping that Tess and Falst are able to arrive on the scene soon… and are able to deliver the volcano warning properly and give Kendal a helping hand.
I love dragons. And I love how this one is designed and drawn and think they’re well characterized, but man, Vros is an asshole. Erin was seemingly right on the money with his assessment of dragons, or at least of the ones we’ve seen: they like to play with their food. Vros is being carelessly cruel in the way that certain kids who torture bugs or other small creatures are cruel, caring only for their own amusement and not concerned about the misery they’re causing.
Of course, I’m also rooting for Kendal, so that affects (or at least strengthens) my instinctive reaction here.
Crossing my fingers for Tess with the metaphorical steel chair.

Tumblr text: see you on Monday!
Bluesky text: reception is kind of bad down there
good job Falst, you made him take a hit! I also think it’s gunny how the spellbird waits for Kendal to surface toa actually hear it’s message
I like the sound effects. WHAM! BOOSH! (gasp) SHAA
I didn’t know the borbs could pause the replay. The more you know.

A physical pet would be difficult, but I can imagine someone coding a circling spellbirb as a replacement for throbbers.
Where’s a Deus Ex Machina when you need it
Give her some time, she only *just* crawled out of the Tess-shaped crater.
How long will Red make us scream for Alinua? 🥺
And now a polite word from our sponser, meanwhile Kendal in the background fighting a dragoon.
Oop, sorry I mean’t to add that I found that hilarious. 🙂
Is the sponsor a dragon playing with its prey like a cat?
At this rate I feel like the prime opportunity for Aurora merch would be spell bird plushies!
Hmmm, I would 100% buy a spellbird plushy if it was squooshy!
Agreed, needs to be very throwable though

Which of the floof squad who flip-flop between multi-paragraph messages and multiple messages with corrections? Because I flip-flop between the two
Ali (also me too bro)

I can’t wait for dragon payback
Oh, its Friday. Well that gives time to Red to draw and plot then! (sweat drops from forehead)
Man I love this dragons.
The dragons seem to really enjoy violence for members of the “holy” good guys. Kinda cat like
Congrats, Red. You managed to add a layer of comedic relief to a tense, violent, and dramatic moment. Well done. Very well done.
Kendall is doing a much better job holding onto the sword than I would have.

It also reminds me of his nap on the boat, when he was told “She’s coming.” and immediately woke up and grabbed Kendal.

A good communicator always ensures the recipient understands the message.
