I don’t think Michael could blast Kendal overboard, at least not on the first try. Michael seems like a “measured response” kinda guy and Kendal is a lot heavier than he looks. Besides, Michael has Kendal categorized as an “innocent,” which implies that he’s the kind of guy who has a set of self-imposed rules of engagement; throwing misguided opponents overboard in stormy seas is probably not his preferred solution.
Not immediately, no, but if/once he learns that they know exactly who Erin is and that they’re trying to help him (to get rid of the dragon, but that might be drowned out by the “help him” or the “they’re all deceived”), they may quickly turn from innocent to dangerous obstacle.
Can I suggest calling him Uriel? That means light of god. Michael, on the other hand, means who is like god, as in, no one can compare to god.
At this point, I think that ship has sailed. Until we know The Champion’s true name, Michael will do. Besides, we didn’t start calling him that because it means “who is like God?”, we called him Michael because he stylistically resembles the archangel in art.

“I knew it,” the Champion says, Erin staring at him in shock. ”This unrivaled display of power — in the heart of a storm, no less.” He stands up, wings of light dissipating behind him. “It could only be you.”
“Ah– yes, hello,” Erin says. “Erin Ruunaser, Elemental Magus. And I’m afraid this is nowhere near as easy as it looks, so if you wouldn’t mind coming back later–”
“Don’t flaunt the skin you wear!” the Champion interrupts. “I know you, wyrm. I know this face,” he growls as Erin looks at him in dawning realization. “You may have deceived these innocents, but you can’t deceive our eyes.
“Although I suppose I should thank you for the courtesy,” he says, raising his hand, light forming around it like a blade. “I’ll be able to apologize to his family.”
Suddenly his hand is snapped back as a hand grabs his wrist. The light dissipates.
“Let’s all slow down a minute,” Kendal says as the Champion looks at him in anger and surprise.
Idk I don’t think the “dawning realization” is quite right but I can’t think of anything else rn so going with that

Kendal’s body is Vash’s former avatar, so if Paladin Dude here knows roughly what Vash is supposed to look like, then they may mistake Kendal for a god.

Man, Erin looks so YOUNG in panel 5. I suppose we’ve been spoiled by having a front row seat…I figured the Paladins would assume Erin couldn’t possibly stand up to the Dragon; it never occured to me they might assume the Dragon has completely supplanted him.

Erin lives to dodge the consequences of his actions yet again!
Of course Kendal and the gang were going to intervene, they’ve come way too far not to. The only question is what kind of power scale everyone is working on, and how much of a threat this Paladin is compared to everyone else’s abilities.
According to LD, Michael is far more proficient with his Light powers than Erin is with Walter’s, which tracks, considering how the latter has been possessed. In terms of tankiness, he’s a squishy meatbag like Erin and non-Crucible Dainix. In terms of magical power, given he’s LD’s avatar, he’s likely on the level of the mages, i.e. Alinua and possessed Erin, with fighting prowess rivaling Falst, Tess or Dainix.
The other thing we need to consider are the limitations of the gang right now.
Erin and Falst are out of the fight; the former needs to keep working his spell and the later is at the helm, not that Falst could do much in this fight (sorry Falst).
Alinua and Dainix are probably also out; Ali needs dirt for her fancier plants and Dainix is still recovering from his powers flaring up. Even if they could fight at full force, they would risk wreaking the boat with plants and fire if they tried. Without their powers, and even with Dainix’s training, neither can do much.
That leaves only Kendal and Tess to fight the Champion, and even they’re limited in some ways. Kendal can’t use starfire for risk of burning the boat, so he has to rely on physical prowess. Tess’s preferred tactic of launching herself at the enemy is complicated due to the lack of stable ground around them; she can’t launch herself recklessly for fear of going overboard, so she needs to switch tactics.
They’ve encountered the Champion at precisely the wrong time and place; their best hope I can see is to try and survive this encounter and prepare for a rematch on dry land.
Michael, it seems, is sure Walter is driving
Kendal to calm down the crisis is striving

Advancing on Erin across the deck,
Who holds back the storm’s danger.
“You can’t deceive our eyes,” he declares,

Catching his gloves hand Kendal says,

I like to think that when he says “I know this face”, Michael actually does know Erin- they’ve met before, and Erin not recognising him is proof to Michael that this isn’t really Erin. Erin, if course, just can’t be bothered to remember people.

It started before we knew what VD was, and needed a name for it (much like Michael here). I think it was a poll on tumblr that decided it’s name, and some people have just… kept calling him Walter.

Which raises the question, is the Void Dragon rubbing off on Erin? Power boost, ego boost, that sort of thing?
Given the chapter art, I unfortunately doubt Kendal will succeed in clarifying. Either he will get cut off or the Paladin will be like “Fool! Only those who don’t take well to being wrong get chosen by dragons! Therefore I know better!” and ignore what Kendal says. Also the chekov’s gu- I mean bubble spell is also there. So
Loving the “casually wrist-grab a clearly powerful dude” maneuver
There’s something very cool in -how- Kendal chooses to intervene.
Old Kendal would have jumped in between the two to meatshield the violence.
This Kendal is self-aware enough to consider that Michael doesn’t seem to attack unprompted, and instead of a fighting move, just does what every good buddy would do to a friend about to hit someone – just a bit of assertiveness and a de-escalating move and word.
After discovering this story roughly two weeks ago and having read it four times over since then I’d like to remind/ask/tell everyone of the following.

Ok so if life intervenes it could cause the next chimera plague thing but if so how did it not happen in the fight with Jolon? Did life just decide it was worth the risk to protect Alinua or did the life lacrima somehow allow life to intervene freely. Or does Alinua being asleep allow her to intervene without chimeric plague.

Ok so why was Life the only one to “wake up” when her true name got invoked? Was it because she’s life?
The real question is whether the twins were created or just controlled by the two dragons. Feels like an odd inconsistency to have.

You know it’s really weird that the ancient paladins didn’t seem to think that the void dragon wouldn’t destroy them. I mean from what we know he just seems like a jerk who would happily destroy a city. It’s almost like there’s more to the story but no way would Walter ever lie or omit information obviously not.
In case you didn’t know 1.15.1 says: find your way if you are truly my son. It also has some weird tree shadow things in the background if you look.
Hey, the fire changed color! It turned purple! Can it change into different colors and as a result change its ability? Probably not but that would be cool. Wait. Apparently there’s blue as well 1.19.16. And also I’m starting to think that the color is like a mood ring. Maybe.
You know when Dainix asked about if Tahraim knew what a crucible was he said: you can say that. Which is what someone says when there’s more to it than the question asked. Huh what could that mea-… ohhhhhhhhh so that’s how he became a god. And probably part of the reason why he struggles a bit with personal matters despite having been once human.
Huh. When voidy realizes that Kendal has no dragon in him he mentions that there’s something he hasn’t tasted in a while and while I’m pretty sure that’s just the star metal, what’s fun is that he probably ate some stars so he has in fact quite literally tasted star metal!

Hey I thought cave crawlers could climb! They were literally on the ceiling 1.21.10! So why can’t Falst’s mom climb.
Wait can’t you only turn into a cave crawler due to void corruption? How did Falst’s mom turn into one? Was she going into the caves? And how was Falst not corrupted as well if a cave entrance opened nearby and caused it.
The really fun question is what broke the containment that was presumably set up in that laboratory. Actually there’s just a whole host of unanswered questions because while I can make assumptions, I ain’t gonna trust them till red confirms. But of the current mysteries there’s: what were the lacrima’s doing, why were six of the elements needed, what was taken/released, what or who left that claw mark, and who among the ancients approved of this laboratory.
Hey! When Falst inner monologues then does his light claw trick you do see the colors change to more so match the light dragon but before that it has the color scheme of voidy! I highly doubt Falst actually has anything to do with void but it would be pretty fun! And who knows, maybe the Ferin was a failed scheme of Walter (please do not take this theory seriously, it is most likely just insanity. Unless-)

This entire story has occurred in roughly thirteen days. Are you sure another ten won’t result with things going horribly wrong Erin? Especially since that will very much delay you and therefore give more time for things to go wrong.
Fun fact according to a tumblr post from red: Kendal will only fight with his sword drawn if he’s willing to kill and he immediately prepared to draw his sword which is a very nice detail. What’s gonna be great is Micheal not taking much real damage (and probably outclassing our heroes) but absolutely failing to kill Erin. Also no I don’t think talking will work. At least for long. Gonna be a legendary shouting match of confusion, anger and someone being an idiot, I can feel it in my nonexistent guns.
Hey! I thought the next chapter was just Terran having some rest and relaxation! I was lied to!
Chekhov’s guns (potentially): the major gods shown on 1.7.7, The Silent Lands ancient ruins, the blue jewel, Huracan(?), soul fire burns at the bottom of the ocean,, however Alinua’s changes to Kendal changed him, cyclonic flight spell, Dainix’s flashbombs, whatever those gods cook up, smokebombs, can Kendal drown, rust bombs/automatons, war titan, lightning railing, Dainix is so glad that he’s not going under the sea, mermaids(?), wind lacrima, and the mysterious she the ghosts warned of.
And no I didn’t wake up at 2:30 to wait for 3 am only to realize that it’s posted at 2 am.
I can answer a couple of those (I think).
If I remember correctly, Vash didn’t want to speak to Kendal that one time because he was scared the Collector would discover him, thus set out after him. I don’t think the Collector does telepathy, but you never know with her.
In the fight with Jolon Life only drew energy from the lacrima when she intervened. Alinua could use the ambient energy, but Life could not since Her sense of scale is so different. She had to limit herself to the amount in the lacrima or else risk using way too much and corrupting everything arround Her.
The Collector invoked only Life’s truename, on account of not really being interested in anyone else. So none other of the primordials would have been awoken at that time. I’m not sure what the Ancients did with the truenames, so why they weren’t awoken before I can’t tell you.
The other truenames were activated a long time ago and for some reason needed magic to speak aloud with any effect. And the thought bubble was in False colors, not dragon colors

To elaborate, all of the Primordials’ truenames have been invoked by other mages. Life was the most recent and the only one to actually reawaken, because she’s, well, Life. She’s Adaptation. She’s Survival. The other 5, meanwhile, remain very dead.
The Ancients had access to the Great Runes, which are basically truename.rar files, but only mages of those elements could metaphorically unzip and decode the truenames in their entirety to invoke the Primordial.

I mentioned last page about how their colours and clothes compared and contrasted, now it’s time for their dialogue and bodies. Erin is strained and stressed, he’s pushing himself too hard in an awkward pose to keep their patch of ocean in check, he’s face-to-face with an enemy he can’t fight, and his attempts at negotiating have fallen on deaf ears. The Champion is tall and steady, looking at Erin like he’s beneath him, and is resolute in his acts; he almost gives me Zuurith vibes with how he holds himself.
I hate to say it, but the Champion believing V.D. to be completely in control and only using Erin as a mouthpiece, is completely believable. I doubt there’s much Erin can say to make him think otherwise, especially with the Champion’s Paladin dogma and mindset. He firmly believes he’s in the right, tactically and morally, and nothing will change that. Erin’s friends can’t save him from the dragon, but, as he told V.D. back in 1-21-4, they could be his only protection against the Paladins.
I don’t see them convincing Kaiba here of Erin’s plight, but they may still be able to convince Theia when she catches up; maybe hit her with some good questions about his behaviour.
If he was possessed by the dragon and wishes to free himself, why journey across the ocean when there are plenty of cave entrances on the continent? Why go to the archives, just to learn about himself, instead of keeping a low profile? Why show so much care for his companions, abandoning the archives to save them from Shrike, if they are mere tools?

One thing I just noticed on the topic of “compare and contrast” with their clothes: the Champion’s cape is tied on his shoulder while Erin’s is tied centrally on his chest.
The first thing this made me think of was the dragons themselves: VD is locked up in the center of the world, and was figuratively in the center of the conflict with the primordials. LD meanwhile was, as far as we know, not involved in that battle and the formation of the world at all, which is to say, she was off to the side.
It also fits the characters’ roles in the story: Erin is a main character and (along with Kendal) the central cause of the plot trajectory since his first appearance, while the Champion was hardly seen before this, with only one appearance multiple years ago.
Aurora Question #1: How do you think this encounter with Michael will end?

I pray it will end peacefully. The Champion and his Lady both seem a reasonable sort, and I’m sure Erin could be a valuable asset in their fight if they can overcome their differences. I also doubt any of the Floofs could stand up to Michael if he chooses to fight, especially not on a boat, so let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. But some asses might be kicked before they get there.
Tbh I don’t have the patience to look through until I find my old questions, so I figured a fresh start might be for the best. This Time I’ll keep notes to keep track of the counter and to avoid repeating questions
A thoroughly annoyed and injured Michael, Dainix and Kendal under the sea, Erin unconscious, exhausted, emotionally destroyed and physically wounded, Tess very upset and taking care of everybody who’s not Michael, Alinua panicking and upset and Falst who is either openly incredibly upset at himself (potentially Erin as well) because he feels he couldn’t do anything or shoving said feelings in a box for later or maybe just never.
Distracted by a conveniently-timed sea monster?
An attempt to tell Michael what’s actually going on before the Lady or something in the team’s argument tips him from slightly ready to listen back to murder. Then maybe the team gets split up into groups by Michael’s attacks and try to find each other while Michael hunts Erin.
Possibly with the boat crash landing on Rakhn? It seems like they’re not in a position to navigate or steer well right now. Otherwise, I think Erin’s hold on the storm will break due to strain, and they’ll all be pitched overboard. But we shall see~

I’m starting to think that volcano god making the storm is going to physically show up on the boat. After Erin breaking the storm and a sort of divine warrior swooping through the hole that was made, they have to have noticed something.

Hello, I have joined the fandom just recently and I would like to say, have a nice day to whoever is reading this comment. I joined this fandom a while ago and from what I’ve seen so far, the Aurora fandom is full of nice people. I’ve been reading the comments and everyone is so nice. People are friendly whenever I comment something. There are a lot of people who make good theories and silly jokes to lighten up the mood. All the people are so supportive, and also big thank you to that one guy/girl who always gives us alt-texts. It looks like they have been doing that for a while now. I also really like how some people leave little story interpretations of the comic. Unlike some other fandoms, there is no toxic shipping or people commenting negative things on other people’s opinions just because they don’t agree with them, and yeah, I just wanted to say that you are all good people 🙂 Lastly, thank you Red for giving us this awesome story! bye!

I was quickly scrolling and I thought ur pfp was Bill Cipher-
Lol how would that conversation even go? Erin’s people dismiss the Void dragon as a myth. I don’t think they’d take to kindly to seemingly harmless cultists showing up at their door like “sorry we killed your son but in our defence, he was the antichrist you have to believe us.”
Also Erin comes from a powerful family, and his station makes him effectively an extension of Asura. If one misstep in Zuurith would mean war, imagine what his murder would mean for the Paladins.
I just wanted to say that this is the first time I’ve caught an update the day of. I found and binged the entire previous comic in the last few days of August. I’ve been checking it every few days since then and I’m so glad it’s back.

Like that this Light-Dragon fellow views the others as innocents, and is planning to tell Erin’s family after (if) he kills him. Show’s that he’s got some morals, and is not just a heartless god-champion, which makes him immediately more interesting.
You’ve put your finger on what it is I love about Erin: he gets the great lines.
Translation: Yes, yes, unrivaled power, and I make this look easy, but if you don’t mind….
And he just brushed aside “unrivaled power” as his due. But was still honest that it was difficult, even for him.

You know, I hadn’t thought about it before, but based on previous interactions with Voidy I don’t think he could pretend to be someone else for more than a few seconds before giving himself away with an evil laugh or something. The paladins haven’t personally met him of course so they wouldn’t know that.

This is the first page update I caught live! I only started reading the comic about a week or two ago (after my friends lovingly bullied me into it), I binged the whole thing, caught up quickly, and… man. I already loved your Trope Talk videos. Other than Hello Future Me, you’re the only writing YouTuber who still consistently teaches me something new about the craft. But WOW, you can put your money where your mouth is!
Aurora is so impressive on so many levels. By all rights a cast of OP super special Chosen Ones shouldn’t work, it should be cringey, but you made them so human, so endearing, so flawed, that whenever they do something insanely OP, we don’t roll our eyes, but instead cheer them on. And you consistently avoid easy conflict by having characters be (mostly) mature, smart, well-meaning and communicative, which would usually kill all compelling drama, but you used more nuanced and human sources of drama that made the story even more compelling and refreshing, and as a bonus made the characters that much more likeable and relatable. And finally, you pepper in constant humor and sarcasm that almost never falls into the trap you talk about in your Bathos video. Comedy and drama don’t get in each other’s way, they enhance each other.
You make this look easy, so it’s easy for us to forget just how much time and effort must’ve gone into the writing (without even mentioning the gorgeous art), so for what it’s worth, I just want you to know: I see it, I appreciate it, and I admire the hell out of you for it! Keep it up, I’m insanely invested in this story!

May I propose changing “Gabriel” or “Michael” to “Uriel”? Gabriel means manliness of god (I think) and Micheal means who is like God, as in, God is unrivaled. Uriel means light of god. I think that’s a lot more fitting…
I assume we’ll learn his actual name within the next two weeks or so. Probably too late to give him a new placeholder name.
Ever since L.D. was revealed to be a white dragon with blue eyes, I’ve also been calling him “Kaiba”.
St. Michael is the classical medieval dragon slayer, where the medieval dragon represented evil. So the name is fitting.

So, I don’t know why I didn’t realize this when Mr. Paladin of Voltron was introduced but why are his eyes glowing pupil-less like he’s a god? When Erin’s possessed by Voidyboi, yeah his eyes go black (which probably can’t be very good for his eyesight) but more importantly we can still see his pupils. Why not for Michael here? Can we see his pupils and it’s just my colorblind ass not seeing anything? Aurora deals a lot with color theory and eyes and I can’t help but feel like this is an important detail.
His text bubbles are a unique color as well, though not the text inside. We’ve seen this happen for gods, which have a unique color text and filling, and the Collector, who only has a unique filling. Am I reading too far into this? Is it just a stylistic choice? What does it mean?! I feel like the meme of the dude pointing at his conspiracy board and I don’t like it.
So Michael thinks Erin’s constantly possessed by Voidyboi. Interesting, but I think he himself disproves this, considering he’s not constantly possessed by the Lady. Maybe he assumes that VD operates differently? I mean, he wouldn’t be totally wrong, but that’s more based on his current situation right now.
Michael also has a sense of conscience, given both the cave-crawler when he was introduced and his comment about apologizing to Erin’s family. I wonder when he’s going to realize that Erin’s sister is right there and ready to throw hands at a moment’s notice. How would he apologize, anyway? “I’m sorry, your son was possessed by a world-ending evil, I *had* to vaporize him. My condolences.”
Also, do we know, strictly, what makes VD take over? I assume, from Tynan, a threat to his vessel, which, if that’s what he perceives this as… Michael, godsdamn it, you fucked everything up.
It definitely could be important. Maybe whenever he uses his powers the light dragon is partly possessing him causing a wierd personality merge! Or it it allows him to see void corruption and/or light magic.
This can also be seen when a character uses wind magic to affect their voice so this most likely just indicates that the magic being used is making their voice weird.
I think it has to do with how when we saw Erin the second time he was being possessed and the dragon was winning indicating that the void dragon would be capable of continual possession and only doesn’t for fear of invoking the wrath of the now four separate people who can fight him.
He’ll probably apologize to her even if in the middle of a fight or attempt to shame her for “aiding” the void dragon. Also I’m getting the vibe that Michael mostly costs by when in a conversation by having a lot of power making others respect him. He really just feels like the person to tell you something very bluntly gives however much reasoning he feels explains and then get confused when you get pissed if he said something rude. That or when someone doesn’t understand his side treat them condescendingly as if they’re being unreasonable.
I think Walter can do it whenever he likes but either doesn’t have enough strength or is too wary to make attempts consistently so he just bides his time till Erin gets too close to the caves and takes over whenever something would threaten that plan. And yup. Michael threatens that plan. The only question is wether the void dragon will decide if him showing up will threaten that plan more.
