Aha! My though about Tynan’s dragon form being awkward was right. Like the Empire from SW he went for something big and intimidating to inspire fear … but also quite impractical so it falls apart against those who aren’t afraid.
However, while it’s not as effective as it looks, he’s still very powerful and solid in this form. While Tess’s dragon punching track record is good, and maybe knows more about dragon anatomy than Big T, she can’t beat him solo.
Ok, Erin is not going to die and Alinua is right next to him giving the heals and to potentially avoid permanent damage. That should keep V.D. under wraps and might mean Erin is able to rejoin the battle later, or at least be conscious for the predicted Dainix-Crucible light show.
tynan did build in two big glowy weak points, Kendal is currently stabbing one of them.
So, I guess dragons are sufficiently snake-like to fall under the evil overlord list rule about turning into snakes?

Actually, the first time we saw Tess was in Windscrest, not the wastelands; she just didn’t have any attention called to her.
Tynan really is a fool. He should’ve taken the transformation stun to take out Alinua, but he’s mostly ignored her. Everyone knows you take out the white mage first!

As cool as this is, I am curious as to why the void dragon hasn’t come out. If this doesn’t count as Erin being back into a corner, I don’t know what does.
Ah, family teamwork. Tynan’s storm form was getting rekt by Erin, so he shifted to an Erin counter, with, appparently, much effort.
…and it just so happens that turning into a solid dragon makes it harder for Erin, sure, but becoming punchable *and* a dragon gets you profoundly hard-countered by Tess.
This is why balanced teamcomps are important, people!
A big glowy weak point? Don’t his eyes count? They’re big, they’re glowy, and they don’t seem to react well to being stabbed with a godly sword.

I loved the flashback a couple pages ago and I’ve been taking another look at everything attached to it, and I got inspired. So– it’s not about *this specific page*, it’s mostly about 1.12.1 through 1.12.11. I probably couldn’t do one every page but maybe every so often…
So, Happy Birthday Red, here you go everyone, a sonnet:

@Acevolts — Yes, it’s curious Erin being knocked unconscious hasn’t brought out the Void Dragon.
I think there’s a rule: supervillains are lazy. Call it Supervillain conservation of energy. It takes generosity to put oneself at risk and that’s not a supervillain trait.
I’m thinking that if there are good guys around to take down Tynan!Dragon, the Void Dragon will just let them deal with it. Only if there’s no chance for the heroes to save the day will Walter bestir himself.
My opinion? Dainix will be the one to bring Tynan to his knees and the Void Dragon won’t need to bother.

You fool! You fell for one of the classic blunders! the first is “never throw a storm at Vash,” but the second, only slightly less well known is this: “Never turn into a dragon when DEATH is on the line!”
To be fair, his Big Glowy Weak Spot seems to be his eyes.
He’s such a considerate villain, really marking it out for our heroes.
Also: I love that this is one of our first “Really Big Fights” and its not just Dainax coming in and saving everyone with his level specific power, its everyone getting their Big Damn Hero moments. Keeps me guessing.

I think it’s because Erin was only knocked unconscious but nothing more. If Tynan hadn’t instantly shifted his attention away from him and towards Kendal, V.D. would’ve most certainly defended his host. But as it stands, Void is trying not to draw any attention to himself: the best outcome of this fight for him is Tynan killing the rest of the squad.
