“Whoever’s actin’ bad,
Whoever doesn’t fit
Goes in the SCREAM PIT!!
“Whoever knows the law
But can’t get the hang of it
Goes in the SCREAM PIT!!”
They got you now, tag, you’re it–
I’ll see you in the SCREAM PIT -quark
Wall cat is watching you bloodsport.
Really like the perspective of the white-haired fighter’s quarterstaff in panel 2, really the whole fight scene though brief has great energy.
With the nature and severity of Zuurith’s laws I get the feeling that Bread and circuses plays a noticeable role in keeping the average citizen content with how things are run.
Let’s see, full face mask for dramatic reveal, Ignan markings on chest and beating a much more armoured and well equipped opponent. I’d say that’s definitely the Ignan champion, and if he’s this good with a simple spear-quarterstaff imagine what he could do with a Tahraim forged weapon.
At first I thought white-hair dude would be the champion, with the close-up of his orange eyes, but now that you mention it, mask dude does make more sense
Also in the 8th sketch page there is someone we haven’t met with an eye patch on next to a character that look suspiciously like Falst. Maybe it’s him? Either Kendal got his eye torn out like Vash or it’s someone we haven’t met that might join the floof squad.
Also; at first I thought the white-haired person was a half-elf, what with the pointy ears, but upon closer inspection, they’re actually a ferin of some kind. They’ve got fangs and a black-tipped nose.
Yeah I think Ferin too, they’re too big and stocky for even a half-elf. Looking at their eye in the final panel, how crazed and darkening it is, I’m hypothesising that this Ferin could be of the Unstable variety and is about to transform.
Sorry this is so late. My school’s schedule has been wonky lately because some students are taking the MCAS. As I was not, the whole morning was free time… To do chores. At least the dogs are clean now.
One of the lore pages did mention that Ferin were used a lot in gladiator arenas. Which is why Falst is all “Civilization.” Maybe he was forced into one of these before?
Okay… this whole page is beautiful. The lighting, the perspective, the shots of the peak while looking out of the arena, and of course the people. It all looks so pretty!
I really love that nearly every character has long, luxurious hair, and all of them wear it down for maximum dramatic effect. Even in circumstances where it would be far more efficient to have it up (like in an arena), it’s freely flowing and absolutely fabulous. Man, I wished I lived in a reality where I could wear my hair down all the time.
I was just grossed out. See, my dogs cannot hunt. They can track down things that can’t find for themselves (baby or injured animals) and even then they can’t deliver the killing bite. So the “gift” must already have been dead because my dogs are pacifists.
My family’s cat doesn’t bring us “gifts”, due to being kept indoors all the time; instead, she’s being obnoxious by waking me up at 4:50 in the morning scratching and honking at my sister’s bedroom door, which is closed because a gray furry someone kept eating her furniture in the middle of the night.
My dogs also scratch at doors, my mum gets furious when they do because she loves things neat and pretty. To keep them out of the bedroom, the dogs are confined to the yard and first floor. They don’t seem to mind too much.
I had a friend once whose cat brought him a “gift”. It’s how he learned what intestines look like.
FINISH HIM
me too Falst. me too.
I can hear all the snark, sarcasm, jaded exhaustion, disgust, apathy, and bitter acceptance all rolled into that one word.
Also Falst is a real cutie in the first panel
Falst does not approve of blood sports
“Civilization”
-Falst, 2021
Are we not entertaintned?
Hmmm… Yes, I see… *Frantic scribbling*
Hmmmm… Well, that floof seems familiar.
Also, called it.
Oh yes it does actually *thinking noises*
Yep.
And I’m guessing that “stay down” was more of the “I don’t want anyone to get hurt” variety rather than a cocky remark.
Falst being a big mood
this page looks stunning
Ay, fire guy’s finally here. Fuck yeah!

Oh, plus, mask dude’s color scheme is more similar to Caliban
I wonder if Kendal will somehow end up in here
Falst is closer.
Maybe after this fight Kendal will have to fight the winner and that’s how they meet them
That’s exactly what i was thinking. I love sticking characters into arenas
I have an idea on how to find the champion, who has more floof?

Ah. I see. That’s a ferin, who’s been beaten. I think.
Tournament Arc ?
Tournament Arc!
I know who the person in the helmet is, and I’m excited!!

Either that, or it’s bloodshot to an unhealthy degree.
so THAT’S how Zuurith keeps his people happy
Bread and games, the life insurance of tyrants since times immemorial.
Woah, helmet dude’s hair is LONG.
we live in a s̶o̶c̶i̶e̶t̶y̶ civilization
Have a happy pride
You are loved and valid no matter what

Falst 2021
Ah, so it IS a gladiator arena
We sure do live in a civilisation, huh.
TL;DR: Wow who would have guessed that the scream pit is hosting a gladiator style match? Ah, society.
Sorry this is so late. My school’s schedule has been wonky lately because some students are taking the MCAS. As I was not, the whole morning was free time… To do chores. At least the dogs are clean now.
No need to apologize. We got your wonderful TL;DR and your dogs got clean. Win for everybody. ^_^
Haha if only the dogs saw cleanliness as a win…
you mean, “ah, civilization”
Hey is it me or on the fourth panel the fire-hair floof became very small?
I think the other guy was always bigger, perspective just made the difference more or less.
One of the lore pages did mention that Ferin were used a lot in gladiator arenas. Which is why Falst is all “Civilization.” Maybe he was forced into one of these before?
I love the colors and lighting here, this page looks so good. The fighting looks really dynamic too.
Okay… this whole page is beautiful. The lighting, the perspective, the shots of the peak while looking out of the arena, and of course the people. It all looks so pretty!
I’m pretty sure the guy in the helmet is Kendal, no?
No, they’re not. They’re Caliban’s stagnating champion.
There will be bread! There will be circuses! And it WILL distract you from our brutal regime until Tuesday!
I really love that nearly every character has long, luxurious hair, and all of them wear it down for maximum dramatic effect. Man, I wished I lived in a reality where I could wear my hair down all the time.
The amount that Red’s art has progressed since the start of this comic is actually staggering.
I mean, JUST LOOK AT IT.
Off topic: Has anyone had a dog that did something really strange? Mine brought home a… Gift… The way cats tend to. She was so proud of her “catch…”
Are you not a proud doggo-parent?
I was just grossed out. See, my dogs cannot hunt. They can track down things that can’t find for themselves (baby or injured animals) and even then they can’t deliver the killing bite. So the “gift” must already have been dead because my dogs are pacifists.
Eughhh. Okay, that does lend some sinister context.

I had a friend once whose cat brought him a “gift”. It’s how he learned what intestines look like.
And i think we’ve just met the official big guy of our floof squad
“They live in a society.”
I set Quark’s “The Scream Pit” to music! It’s not on tumblr yet, but I did post it on Discord.
That staff…is that Wukong’s?
ye i mean we enjoy the fight scenes, who’s to say that the npcs (not-protagonist-characters) don’t enjoy fight scenes either?
