What an interesting concept. Volcano god giving you a warning.
Its like, “Yeah, we know you have anger issues dude, but can you at least give us a count to thirty before you explode so we can move all breakable objects away from your vicinity.”
and the dude is like
“You guys know me so well. Thanks for not trying to stop me or change me. I can do that, its not much of a bother.”
Ohh, yes, very cool!
I would’ve liked them talking about Falst’s backstory, but honestly, this also makes total sense. We know from all the way back in Gleicann that gods can’t find individual mortals, but can see collections of elemental energy like in a large lacrima or in a fireseed. Because Kendal dipped, Falst would be the only part of Kendal’s friend group Rakhn had any way of identifying to deliver a warning to.
Also, I’m pretty sure the guy’s face is made of rocks. Falst kicked it to shreds. Good reminder that Falst is crazy strong.
100% referring to Kendal. Gods can’t differentiate between mortals, even if they’re as unusual as the Collector, while Kendal is a homing beacon to them. Also, Dainix hasn’t done anything to protect Falst that Rakhn would know about, while Kendal used himself as bait to let Falst steal the Fireseed shard
You know, we could probably reverse-predict the rest of the chapter based off of this deadline alone. Because there’s no way we WON’T be around to see the countdown run out (likely with one of those gigantic super cool wallpaper-esque pages to go along with it). So I wonder what’s going to stop notoriously practical Falst from immediately dipping. Picking up Tess? Or Alinua raidbossing her way back onto the island to pick them both up?
I really hope this doesn’t lead to Fast trying to swim down and warn Dainix and Erin because its just the right blend of protective and self-sacrificing
Rakhn: You kicked me … Kendal never kicked me. Falst: I’m not Kendal.
(huh, just remembered that DS9 episode featured a Vash too)
Yeah, while attacking a god is ill-advised, a part of me can’t blame Falst; Rakhn is looking very imposing here, his initial wording sounded very ominous, and most interactions Falst has had with gods have been negative. Though as I type this I realise had it been Erin who cost the team a full hour of prep, the comment section would be dragging him though the mud. Double standards much.
Everyone, both in-universe and in the comments, figured this was coming; be it out of the need to protect his land, the unsaid obligations of a god, or simple pride, Rakhn cannot let an incursion like this go unanswered.
Good news, the Paladins will need to evacuate the island and abandon their hunt. Bad news, the gang ALSO needs to evacuate the island and, as of yet, have no mechanism to do so. We’re trading figurative heat from the Paladins with literal heat from the volcano.
It’s a good thing Falst is a master at compartmentalising his anguish … well, good for the gang, not his mental health. With Dainix and Erin well below the sea, Kendal out of Rakhn’s detection range, and Alinua still MIA to Falst, the best thing he can do now is find Tess and warn her of the danger. Which means going back into the Paladin-filled woods … yay.
I think this could result in Falst going to warn the palladins in all honesty – he wont be able to find Kendal, Erin or Dainix. He MIGHT run into Tess and if so he’ll tell her, and she’ll probably want to get the palladins off of the island as well
While the floof squad doesn’t want anyone to die. I’m certain Falst is going to prioritize finding Tess first. By that point, they’ll either shout a warning to the paladins as they run past, or they’ll notice the paladins already evacuating (Stefan already suspects an eruption and is getting his people ready to retreat). Falst does care about others’ lives, but these people have been trying to kill them, so he’d guarantee his group’s safety before risking his life for the paladins.
Huh! I assume by protector, Rakhn means Kendal. I’m hazarding a guess Falst is going to prioritize warning his friends. Maybe Tess first, since, to my knowledge, she’s the only one left on the island.
also that kick to the face was extremely justified given the discourteous neck grab
Does anyone else find the line “You HAD one hour. Now you have less.” absolutely peak?
Also I’m gonna write what I think could be Falsts’ thought proces: Oh no. I need to warn Dainix. Wait, Dainix is underwater. I can’t warn him. Same with Kendal and Erin. Tess IS still on the Island. I can warn her. I am gonna do that. Hope Alinua doesn’t get here soon.
Sooo remember a couple pages back when Stefan’s speech bubble saying “we don’t want anyone to get trapped” was ominously placed mostly inside of a panel showing Dainix and Erin in their bubble under the sea? Yeah, I don’t think being in the water alone is gonna be enough to save them. Lava can go into water, and when it does, it doesn’t just harden out quickly (and Erin currently can’t channel Earth), it also sheds its heat into the water.
Methinks the Chekhov’s gun of “soulfire can burn at the bottom of the ocean” is going to be shot very soon. But Dainix already burned himself out once, and recently at that – there’s no way of knowing if, or how much, getting dunked in lava actually replenished his battery. He may need that fire shard soon.
My thoery that Rakhn was showing up to Falst to say “You’re more entertaining to me alive than you are dead, which you will be if you’re still out in the open here when I explode” seems partially correct! At least a little bit! I actually don’t think the kick is behind the “you had one hour, now you have less” – it sounds like Rakhn already warned his people (when the guy watching the volcano noticed all the Ignans went inside) and that he initially went looking for Kendal, what it sounds like happened to me is the clock started ticking when the Ignans got their warning and kept ticking through Rakhn finding someone from the Floof Squad to warn.
Yyyyeeeeeessss Rakhn!!! Give those pesky “we’re going to land an invasion force and not even say hi” a smack on the fingers!
Falst will see a god, ask “is anyone gonna kick that?” and not wait for an answer
Falst has no respect or trust for authority figures and we love him for it.
Yeah but that seems to have cost him some evacuation time, from hour down to ‘unknown amount of time from now.”
I hope that kick was worth it XD
Hey for all we know he still has 59 minutes!
Not going to matter if he goes all Krakatoa.

Well, real-life volcanoes give plenty of warnings (if you know what to look for) 😉
And then there are tourists who think: oh, pretty molten rock, I should go up there and take pictures.
Of course there’s also the crying wolf problem. Warning – nothing happens – warning – nothing happens – warning – nothing happens – warning – warning – boom – “well, I did warn you!”
Something something comunication is key

My boy Falst really out here fighting any God he can get his hands on
And even air jail couldn’t stop him this time!
Ohh, yes, very cool!

me when im about to crash out and i dont wanna yell at anyone unnecessarily
When Rakan says Falst’s “Protector”, do you think he is refering to Dainix or Kendal? Maybe both?

I think it would be danix. kendal feels more in “companion” territory and maybe danix reforming could be a large enough energy spike for him to see.

I’m just imagining the sky having a giant countdown (like in BFB)
I think a large number of us are awaiting a Deus Ex Alinua/Northern Wyrm…
I really hope this doesn’t lead to Fast trying to swim down and warn Dainix and Erin because its just the right blend of protective and self-sacrificing
OH GOLLY ITS FALST!!!! You can’t blame him for kicking you Rakhn 🙁 thank you for warning our lionboy regardless!!! his protectorrr :((( dainiiix :(((
or Kendal, the two are both underwater right now … I hope Falst has enough time to warn them. Pleeeaase 🙁
Oh golly its Rakhn! (he seems pretty pissed)
Rakhn: In one hour, I cast TPK. Rocks fall, everyone dies!

Wack those Paladins!
Rakhn: You kicked me … Kendal never kicked me.

Falst: This meeting could have been an email.
Rakhn: I felt it crucial to touch base with some face time.
This so deserves an upvote

I think that’s enough stuff for this comment.

So…you mean like…”Planet Namek is exploding in an hour”, right, Rakhn? Right???
Frieza voice: This planet is going to explode in FIVE MINUTES!
Which means Falst has an hour to go find Tess and get them both under the sea.

Whoops
Time to grab Tess and yeet yourselves off a cliff and into the water!
I hope when Rakhn finally blows we get another double spread.
That would be awesome. And a nice parallel to the caldera spread.
Welp, time to get the hell off this island.
Yknow what, fair
