I’m going to have to refute that assessment; Kendal/Vash has too many friends for his Charisma to be that low. If anything, Intelligence is his dump stat–not that he’s dumb, but there are huge gaps in his understanding of how things work on the mortal level (having a cloistered “youth” will do that).
Kendal might be able to fight this dragon, because he fought Tynan’s dragon form ok, but he’ll probably be slower in the water, and he’s quite injured. We need Alinua to show up!!
First I thought “ooh, the wyrm has taken a new, intermediate form after Ali’s help, nice!”
But no, I don’t think she did. It’s just a talking dragon.
…this could be very interesting or very bad.
I’m trying to change my sleep schedule so I wake up earlier and this release timing is not helping bc I get SO excited to see the newest page I just find reasons to stay up🙈🙈🙈 hahaha it’s fine I’m not screwed I’ll just pretend my body’s still in its twenties and can handle all the non-sleep I throw at it :}
So… What if – way back when before Kendal had a name yet and Alinua was trying to nickname him – she had tried “Blondie” and “Two-Legs” and then said “hm you don’t nickname well.” (like, “girl, no, You’re bad at nicknaming, it ain’t on him”) XD XD XD
Vros/Calian: Don’t be afraid, you can talk to me. Wait, why are you waving your hand like that across your neck? … You can’t talk? But- … Hold on … O-Ok, three words, first word … uh.
(as they play underwater charades Erin and Dainix tip-toe behind the dragon)
Vros or Calian are being oddly friendly with Kendal; given the low-light underwater environment, and colourful hair, they must think he’s a Sekrai. (Huh, that’s two floof squad members who’ve been mistaken for Sekrai now).
Sorry whoever you are, but you’re not the wyrm he’s looking for. NW and/or Alinua are hopefully on their way, because the moment Vros/Calian realises Kendal is the swordsman from Tam’s report, things will get hairy.
This looks bad, but there are positives. If panel 1 is to be believed, Kendal is near the shallows so should be able to grab some air if/when a fight breaks out.
It also means he’s far from Erin and Dainix, who are only going deeper. If Kendal manages to distract just one of these dragons, that’ll be a huge help to them; while Dainix can survive underwater, I don’t rate his ability to fight water adapted dragons on their own turf. Then again, an inextinguishable living flame person is probably the last foe these dragons are expecting to fight down here.
Ears do work underwater. Water is actually much more conductive to sound than air is. While our ears aren’t made for it, and we wouldn’t hear anywhere as well as on land, we can still hear.
Speaking underwater is not that different, it’s just an adaptation to be able to do so both on land and on water. Maybe specialized vocal cords, maybe two sets, one for water, one for air, the same way lungfish for example can breath water and air, or as a fantasy example, whatever Alinua did to herself when she woke up underwater. Before the adaptation she could still hear, but it was muffled.
Kendal, considering he isn’t actually human, could potentially have similar adaptations. Vash had connections with other gods, I can imagine he gave his incarnation adaptations like that in order to communicate with water based gods. His city was near the coast if I remember correctly too, it would make sense.
They’re so POLITE what a nice change! Thankfully they ran into Kendal, Mr. Let’s Make Friends With All The Powerful Things Who Don’t Immediately Try To Kill Me, so, while extremely unlikeky, maybe this turns into a good and revealing conversation for both of them??
It definitely won’t but it would be cool to have a dragon onscreen that Doesn’t end up getting punched XD and out of the gang, Kendal’s the one to do it.
Well! Maybe the dragon talking to Kendal is a good sign? They at least don’t seem to be immediately deciding he’s one of the targets they’re supposed to be hunting, although it’s a little early to say that for certain. And if there’s a dragon talking to Kendal at least that’s one dragon not paying attention to the vulnerable air breathers in their delicate and effort-intensive bubble!
I know everyone is saying Warrior cats but a dragon saying two legs reminded of a childhood book called The Last Snowdragon and I’m just very happy to remmeber it :,)
Presumably, the Northern Worm has or will soon notice Kendal and show up. Feels like she’ll be more on our heroes side, between her and Rakhn the Paladins may soon find themselves in a scylla and charybdis style situation or dilemma.
OH NO
Well, that is a Wyrm at least!
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: but I thought everything was BETTER down where it was wetter!

Tumblr text: that’s not in the spirit of devoting full time to floating
Bluesky text: my mistake I thought you were shaped like a friend
what do i roll to befriend the dragon?
Charisma. Which is Kendal’s dump stat, unfortunately.
Is it? Or is it Wisdom? Or is his charisma just like. a fuckin’. unimpressive-but-not-awful TWELVE.

Why do all the aquatic creatures have slurs for other races?
Hahaha true, they don’t seem very offensive at least tho *shrug
“50% of fantasy worldbuilding is racism”
-Someone (I have no memory of who)
Wow. Three poster-worthy panels on this page. We eat good today!
I only see one dragon.
OH SHIT I ONLY SEE ONE DRAGON
Kendal and a dragon underwater, SURELY NOTHING WILL GO WRONG
Wait- “TWO-LEGS?” *Someone’s* been taking notes from Warrior Cats………
Okay, so I guess we’re going to find out just how much Kendal NEEDS to breathe when he’s fighting.
My thought exactly! But at least this dragon is in the mood to talk. Though I’m not sure we’ll get beyond “begone / you look tasty” banter.

Naadagain
Why did that seem kinda flirty?
“Traversing the seafloor all by yourself, handsome?”
I think its the dragon head’s position and look which leads to such interpretation.
Sort of same energy like in this video
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iXiHkub-5CQ
warrior cats flashbacks, anyone?
yup.
Well shrimp.

Real question, how does Kendal hear the dragon underwater, his ears don’t work down there and how is the dragon speaking underwater?
Hmm that’s not good

I have no idea why this replies to the wrong person. This was suppised to go to the above comment, this one wasn’t even there when I wrote the reply.

Erin did say dragons like to play with their food, so there’s the chance this is just the small talk before the appetizers are served…
I knew it would only be so long until Dragon appears.
I know everyone is saying Warrior cats but a dragon saying two legs reminded of a childhood book called The Last Snowdragon and I’m just very happy to remmeber it :,)
Time to update my bookmark, this is the new landing page!
I just wish I could get it to auto-scroll down to that last panel
Absolutely not the point but his hair looks SO good in these shots
It really does! Sooo good.
Who’s ready for a deux ex alinua
This seems bad, that dragon is in serious danger…
Presumably, the Northern Worm has or will soon notice Kendal and show up. Feels like she’ll be more on our heroes side, between her and Rakhn the Paladins may soon find themselves in a scylla and charybdis style situation or dilemma.
That smirk is giving me The Worries.
