Dammit, numerical superiority means you can be in TWO places at once. Cheaters. If only one of the Flood Squad had a lot of friends conveniently at hand.
Interesting. Paladins, or at least, Lord Stefan can sense openings to the Singing Caves. AND they can read memories. Both of these things make sense considering the nature and The Lady, but now that they’re confirmed, I have new ideas for how this comic will go. Maybe at some point in the comic, they’ll capture Falst and read his memories too.
No, it’d be insane to phrase it like that if that were the case. More likely the Dragon can share of paladin’s memories with another, or they have straight up memory reading magic.
I’m guessing that memory reading is shared between Paladins, the way the telepathic warning was a few panels back.
Granted, Falst could hear that telepathic warning. But they’re not going to know that Falst can hear them, or imagine he can be read.
What I’m wondering is if the Floof Squad is going to need Falst to rescue them, or if this is going to be a period of character growth for Falst as he learns more about his connection to the Light.
I would guess that you need some level of mutual agreement to read memories and that if Falst really didn’t want his read, he could probably keep them from seeing them
Lord Stefan: Should I stay or should I go? Should I stay or should I go? Both. Both is good. I mean, I have enough troops for overwhelming force for both options. Quantity has a quality of its own.
Walter is the dan name for the Void Dragon. I feel like Erin’s going to be backed into a corner again and VD is going to feel the need to protect his vessel.
It is even worse (for the heroes) when the bad guy leadership is smart. Though that does make it a lot more satisfying when the good guys manage to foil them.
It wasn’t a total success, but they still had to redeploy forces.
Let’s see if the dragon sends a Deus Ex Machina out of the caves to make a better distraction?
Or if Rakhan has something to say?
Also, I think the comment font size is a lot smaller then it used to be?
yeah, the comment font is *definitely* a lot smaller
It’s nice to know other people can see it too, I thought it was something wrong with my computer at first
Yep, he’s got a good head on his shoulders. Because that sure was a flashy, attention getting blast of magic, with no sightings of the people you actually want.
Stefan: We are either dealing with the most dangerous being ever to exist, or a overpowered, smart-arse boy prone to being too big for his boots. After dealing with Tam’s shenanigans over the years … I’d honestly prefer the Dragon.
Welp, as me and a few others predicted, Stefan is not fooled by Erin’s plan; you don’t become the head of a heavily armed organisation if you easily fall for bait. In making the explosion so grand and eye-catching to get everyone’s attention, it may have inadvertently clued Stefan into thinking it’s a distraction.
Ah well, some confusion/panic and Paladins being re-directed to the hole is better than nothing.
Is Erin trying to hold his breath in the first panel? I mean it makes sense, both to keep quiet and with the spellbirds about. There’s another thing, while the distraction plan was only a partial success, the redeployment should lower the number of active spellbirds, at least in the area of the hole.
All Erin and Dainix need is a little gap to the shoreline; Stefan has figured out this is a ruse, but he doesn’t know what it’s a ruse for.
I wondered that too! At first I thought perhaps cracking open the rock had released volcanic fumes (which would be no problem for Kendal or Dainix), but then it clicked — if the spellbirds are still active, he absolutely doesn’t want to give away the game now.
Although it appears Stefan has figured him out anyway.
If they’re going off of tam’s memories, the only powerhouse they aren’t already somewhat aware of, is alinua, if I recall the boat fight correctly. (They know Erin because of the lady, and also there being prior knowledge for the elemental magus, Kendall beat Tam, and dainix sank the ship.)
Right, they’ll be thinking Alinua is “the healer,” maybe even assume she’s tagging along with the main party and staying hidden… They have a chance of being DOUBLY surprised by both whatever assistance the Northern Wyrm may be persuaded to provide, and by Alinua being the true powerhouse of the group.
Well, it sorta worked, that’s nice. And while keeping Stefan realistically smart. He knows it’s most likely a trap, but he can’t possibly afford it not being one, so he has to check anyway. Stefan is on the brink of winning by checkmate, but Erin just pulled a ridiculous move that most likely won’t improve his chance of victory but did put Stefan’s king, the world, in check. Even though Stefan’s next move could put Erin in checkmate, the rules say he has to save the king.
Just to extend Red’s chess reference.
This is smart for the paladins but not a good thing for the Flood Squad. It could be good in the long run but depends on the characterization of various members of the paladin high command
I love the Fellowship of the Ring moment in panel one, am I the only one who immediately made that connection? I can already imagine Erin’s POV with Walter whispering ominously while Paladin footsteps thunder overhead.
So Tam is a zealot who thinks Erin is just the Void Dragon incarnate. Erin was right to guage their response based on that, but it’s nice to see not all the Paladins share his opinion.

In other news, Lord Stefan is still probably one of my fave antagonists.
It’s interesting that he knows Erin isn’t always possessed like Tam assumes. And his phrasing is still ambiguous- does he think Erin is consensually working with the dragon, or does he have an accurate read on the situation but know it’s too big to risk? Also, it’s really sad how he keeps calling him ‘the boy.” Because Erin IS really young- he’s confirmed to be 19. Is Stefan continuing to say this to remind himself of the sacrifice the Paladins are making for the world? Or is it to belittle him? Considering all we know it’s probably the first option, but still, interesting.
I agree with what other people are saying in that Tam probably projected his memories or had them projected into Stefan’s head. Or maybe Stefan took them? Is that one of his Crown-Specific powers? And it would probably have to be from a distance, too. It’s pretty likely the Paladins were on their army trip long before Tam fought the Floof Squad- and it’s been about 24 hours exactly between Tam’s dramatic superhero landing and the army’s arrival on the island. So maybe it wasn’t the worst thing strategically that Tam arrived early. He was able to give valuable intel on the Dragon and his allies. And i suppose it is a lot easier to run a world-spanning organization when you have telepathy.
2.3.6-7. Tam and Lucy did already know that Erin really is resisting the Dark Dragon, and their viewpoint is that even then, he will inevitably end up overpowered and corrupted if they don’t kill him first.
This is a prime example of man-power advantage. He’s got enough troops that he doesn’t have to make the call on which lead to pursue and still have overwhelming force on both fronts if they pan out.

Oh no they saw through the plan that was spoken out loud.
Someone get the camera away from the Floof squad when they are doing the planning
For mobile readers.

I know that’s a typo, but flood squad is actually an awesome name for the merpeople + underwater mode alinua
I don’t entirely disagree, but I will be pronouncing it ‘Flud Skwud’ for the duration

I imagine that the memories just mean Tam told them what the fight was like
No, it’d be insane to phrase it like that if that were the case. More likely the Dragon can share of paladin’s memories with another, or they have straight up memory reading magic.
We’ve also seen them have telepathic communication, so maybe they can also send memories that way.

Who wants to bet Walter is gonna get involved somewhere along this chapter
Who’s Walter again?
fandom nickname for the void dragon
Walter is the dan name for the Void Dragon. I feel like Erin’s going to be backed into a corner again and VD is going to feel the need to protect his vessel.
I hate it when the bad guys are smart.
When bad guys are dumb i always think its so annoying, but when they’re smart I remember that thats far worse.
It is even worse (for the heroes) when the bad guy leadership is smart. Though that does make it a lot more satisfying when the good guys manage to foil them.
Tess can have a few chess pieces. As a treat
Mmm, chess pieces. Nomnomnom.

I think that while Erin hoped they’d be drawn off by blasting the cave entrance open, at least their forces are being divided.
It also will tell Erin more about who he’s dealing with… a cautious general… and he’ll be able to use that knowledge to his advantage.
What is Stefan’s biggest weakness? Unpredictability — Oh, hi Falst!

I thought I was going crazy. Nice to know I’m not the only one seeing comments in a weird font.
okay lord stefan is kinda awesome here im ngl
I’m afraid tess got the munchies
Logistics, ugh! How uninspiring. What is the point of overwhelming aerial firepower if you aren’t even enjoying it?
Your username makes that comment 10x funnier
Eheheheheee
Guys don’t worry, when Alinua shows up its gonna be so fucking sick

Probably to remind himself about the sacrifice, he is too competent to belittle someone because that leads to underestimation which is fatal.

Oh no! The opposition has brainy people!
Erin holding his breath in panel 1 to hide from the spell-birds, clever indeed.
AH! Thank you! I failed to pick up on that.
Partial Success! You have diverted a portion of the opposing force.
The fact that the mooks consistently scream IT’S HIM whenever something magical happens is hilarious to me. 10/10 mook behaviour.
Random fact: Tess is an answer in today’s crossword in the New York Times. (26-Across, “____ of the d’Urbervilles” [sic])
The PAGE TEXT I am DYING
Splitting their forces is Not Not a win? Right?
Folks, I think Stefan might be smarter than me.
Also, is anyone else hearing Stefan being voiced by Tony Amendola?
Okay okay okay, Lord Stefan. I kinda like this dude. He’s kinda fantastic.
This is a prime example of man-power advantage. He’s got enough troops that he doesn’t have to make the call on which lead to pursue and still have overwhelming force on both fronts if they pan out.
Oh hey, these guys noticed that “the boy” is in the driver’s seat!
So….now the question is, what’s thier plan with that information?
2.3.6-7. Tam and Lucy did already know that Erin really is resisting the Dark Dragon, and their viewpoint is that even then, he will inevitably end up overpowered and corrupted if they don’t kill him first.
Hold it. Panel 1. Is Erin covering his mouth to keep from laughing?
