. “FALST,” Dainix interrupts, grabbing Falst’s head in his hands as though to squeeze some sense into him. “If Rakhn were fighting, the whole volcano would be responding, so we have to assume that Kendal’s not in danger right now.” Falst stares at him, sweating, pupils round and wide as Dainix continues, “Volcanic fumes are toxic and you’re not thinking straight. And, MOST importantly–” He looks at the Fireseed shard clutched in Falst’s hand, Falst following his gaze. “For some reason, they let us walk out of there with a piece of Rakhn’s heart in your hand. I really don’t think Rakhn would personally do you the same kindness. Besides, you’re in no condition to–” He breaks off as Falst shoves his arms away with a scarf-wrapped hand, rolling to lie facedown on the rock.
. “I thought you were dead,” Falst croaks.
Ohhh, they’re going to go find Erin and Tess now huh, because they can’t risk Rakhn’s wrath and he’s with Kendal, Alinua is underwater and they don’t know where she is, also, the chapter cover art is a big hint as to where this is going.
This whole adventure started way-back when with a hermit mage and a guy who was one day old. It’s nice to see the one’s with lived adventurer experience show their knowledge about important stuff to remember how far we’ve come and how much has been learned.
That was a real tactical face squish. On a different note, I wonder if Falst can be healed since Red did say that illnesses can’t be healed. I think the fumes would have damaged his lungs, so depending on how much damage there is, is what determines his chance of actually getting healed.
Based on Rakhn’s response to Kendal’s “Have you ever been robbed? :)” I bet he will, in fact, let them walk out of there with that shard of his heart. Dainix’s logic is sound, though, and his conclusion reasonable. It’s also really dang impressive how he’s jumped into crisis handling mode with, like, no context.
Ooough Falst. I want to say the boi needs a hug, but given that swat, he might need a bit of space and opportunity to collect himself more. For now.

Can’t wait to see them reunite with Erin (since he is in the chapter cover I’m assuming they will), and how he has been dealing with his angst in his dark little cave. Speaking of Erin, I may have drawn a possible connection that I don’t THINK has been brought up before in a previous pages comment section, between what Tam said about Voidy slowly corrupting him from within back during the boat, and Erin getting what Red called a “dark season 2 redesign” in the alt text back on page 2.1.2, like its signalling that Tam could be right, and Erin is already slowly becoming corrupted by Voidy’s influence
This could just be me clutching at straws though. I’ve honestly lost count of how many times I’ve re-read this comic so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is just me seeing things that arn’t there
You know, in the “character holding all of the other party members on child leashes” situation, I did not have Falst in my head as the one holding the leashes.
That little face squish is going to live in my head rent-free forever! Also, we’re getting some more emotional vulnerability from Falst! Also, also, dang, Falst only had the scarf off for a few seconds in the volcano and it caused this much damage. Volcanos are nasty! Final also, Relax Falst, you spent a whole chaotic chapter taking care of Dainix. Let Dainix now take care of you!

Healing the damage to his lungs could be accelerated with Life magic, but Falst is already a quick heal. Not sure if he’d get sick from it…
