I love it when the protagonists actually think about what happened.
That sound we hear is every GM sighing wistfully for something that can never be.

. âObviously we donât want them to kill you, but they canât all be zealots like the Champion,â Dainix says. âSomeone must be willing to listen to all our good reasons why youâre more valuable alive.â
. âTwo problems,â Erin says. âOne, the Paladins are an effective deterrent for the Dragon. He wants me alive, so I can use them to threaten him into compliance. Donât give me that look. Itâs already worked once,â he adds. âSo ironically, if we render them harmless, I potentially become more dangerous.
. “And two⌠Well. Two is rather complicated, and Iâd like to be certain before I go stating anything as fact. On that noteââ He looks up. âFalst. I understand you witnessed the majority of the fight on the ship.â
. âYeah, Iââ Falst coughs heavily as he sits up. Dainix moves over to support him. âI shook off that light crown thing before the rest of you.â
. âI know that, at some point, Void energy was unleashed,â Erin says. âDid I channel it?â
. âNo, you were out cold when it hit. The Dragon used it to break the crown, but he sounded just as confused about where it came from.â
. âBut you saw the source.â
. â…Yeah.â Dainix stares at Falst, shocked, as the Ferin continues, âWhen Dainix ripped through the Paladinâs shield. It came from the fire.â

So, is he realizing that Dainax turns Light into Void and vice versa?
For mobile viewers: putting the pieces together I see
Ooooooh, I’m excited! So much geeking out and theorizing is gonna come from this. I can’t wait!
Ah, yes. It begins. Excellent.
How VERY interesting
Is his theory that void and light are aspects/transmutations of the same element? Will we already get confirmation of that next page? With how long it took to get confirmation on void = cave corruption, that’d be a lot faster than the last time that a fan theory about void got confirmed. Neat.
I wonder – is Erin’s theory connected to how Dainix got Void-corrupted during the fight, or has Falst’s revelation here just opened up entirely NEW theories…?
Hard to imagine that I’m up late enough to be one of the earliest to comment. We’ll see if I’m first in the lineup or much later in a moment…
Yup… didn’t think I’d be the actual first commentator.
All my precious boys
Uprooting a mystery
Have a little talk
Damn, you could say this chapter might answer some questions? Like some sort of “Illumination” mayhaps?
Oh my god it’s finally happening. It’s finally happening. They’re discussing this. Oh I’m so excited. Getting to see this is worth being unable to sleep in the middle of the night.
“Light crown thing”
Me: (straining) … Must … resist … quoting … Fairly OddParents!
Dainix is giving me hope for the reunion with Theia having a good outcome. While devoted to the cause like Tam, she appears to be more learned and less fanatical; very strict about archive and library rules, yes, but her abandoning the Paladins to pursue Erin solo shows there’s more to her.
Get her and Erin talking in a calm environment, explain himself and how he’s amassed three V.D. counters, and she might start believing his plan is worth a shot. Her going AWOL invalidates Erin’s first problem, but I’m interested as to what his second problem is.
Erin isn’t remarking/confused on Falst shaking off the diadem? Maybe he’s too preoccupied by the potential Light-Void theorising to think about what that means. Or maybe he’s chalking it up to Ferin hardiness.
Either way that means that Falst’s light powers have the potential to remain hidden a bit longer, for better or worse.
Falst may not have been able to contribute to some fights, but that doesn’t mean he can’t pay attention, and it’s paying off; he has firsthand testimony of Dainix’s soulfire turning Light into Void, and vice versa. I understand Dainix not remembering the shield-to-Void part, but I wonder how much of Tahraim’s insight he’s retained.
I also wonder just how much of this will be surprising to Erin, and how much he’s already suspected.
If soulfire can transmute void and light, does this mean we can burn Erin at the Dainix stake to kill the void dragon? Not really a real solution butâŚ
Erin does not contain the whole Void Dragon, he’s just a “medium” for the dragon. The real Void Dragon is still chilling at the center of the planet.
Not to mention, if the soulfire could have killed the dragon, wouldn’t Primordial Fire have done exactly that?
Soulfire, as the name implies, is not the same as Primordial Fire. Likewise, the Void Dragon managed to kill Primordial Life as well, despite Alinua being able to resist his magic. I wouldn’t consider Dainix the same thing as Primordial Fire, nor Alinua the same as Primordial Life; they each contain traces of all six/seven/possibly eight elements as opposed to a single one.
Also, there’s a theory that the Light Dragon actually spawned from Primordial Fire as he transmuted the Void Dragon during combat, so it’s a very interesting question.
OH THSTS A FASCINATING THEORY AND I LIKE IT.
For anyone looking for the archive page that shows where Dainix starts to channel the void, it’s here on https://comicaurora.com/aurora/2-3-17/ – you can see the void start to come from his hand!
Thank you!
…OH.
Yeah, if Erin isn’t the only one who’s put this together, that could explain why there’s a whole lot more of them this time…
okay I am *loving* the delivered-to-offscreen “don’t give me that look”
ooohhhh Dainix’s face in the last panel says so much. “wait what?” and “i thought i knew how this crucible thing worked now” AND “oh. i’m still dangerous in a way i don’t know how to control.” GOD that’s fucking delicious character writing right there
Oh no Dainix really had no idea what happens when he turns into the Human Torch
Zoomed in on falsts arm in panel four and it looks like his hand got chomped off đ
Its good the lads are communicating to each other. It would be funny if Thea comes to confront Erin about his ‘lie’ and Shrike’s big plan runs afoul Alinua’s new friend. Must wait til next update to find out what happens now!
Soooo I consumed this whole webcomic over 2 days and am sad that I didn’t pace myself better. Plus side, I can join y’all in the comments now!
Thoughts so far:
– Kendal: Best Boy. Watching him learn how to live has made me feel so many things. Significantly less worried about him now that it’s been proven a Vash possession doesn’t yeet Kendal’s consciousness out of the shared meat suit, but still feel like there may be another shoe waiting to drop there.
– Alinua: Half “Party brain cell carrier”, half cosmic horror in training. Piss her off at your own risk. I fear for anyone in a 10 mile radius if she ever truly, completely loses it.
– Erin: My favourite character against all reason. Somehow took all the tropes I typically hate and made this silly ball of Hubris who actually LEARNS from his mistakes (most of the time). I need to physically restrain myself from psychoanalyzing him.
– Falst: The voice of reason for everything that isn’t his own physical safety. My guy. Heal your existing injuries BEFORE making new ones. Discovering he has budding Light powers may make that recklessness worse.
– Tess: Could probably fight the sun and win. Waiting for the day she meets Void Dragon in person and suplexes him
– Dainix: Most interesting lore implications, especially in Arc 2. Especially in THIS page. This poor fella’s goals became a whole lot more complicated
And now I resist the urge to reread from the beginning again while waiting for the next update. I have work to do, but this story is too damn good ;;
Big mood.
Hey I also JUST found this and⌠I failed. Iâm replying to this on my reread, like a day after I finished T0T. Glad Iâm not the only one abominably late. Anyways dw friend:) thereâs no need to avoid it⌠go on psychoanalyse Erin. Gid knows Iâve been doing it for the past week lol
yin and yang together at last
Damn im late today. Anyways, I NEED TO SEE THE LOOK DAINIX GAVE ERIN
Based on a lot of other Dainix faces we’ve seen, my money’s on Puppy Dog Eyes. Dainix is a warrior and wouldn’t want his friend risking his own death, even as an idle threat to keep a monster at bay.
Falst being very smooth, as always
I wonder how he knows the Paladin they fought is specifically the Champion?
Hmmm DELICIOUS LORE
And also I need to go expand a Tumblr theorem of mine because moTHERFUâ
so light and void are one and the same, 2 parts of 1 primordial? fire transmutes materials from one form to another, but not from one primordial to the next. if the light that was channeled was transmuted by the crucible, that would only make sense that it’s part of it. which makes some things line up…
draconic possession used to be more common, but started falling off once the dark dragon took a host (the light dragon was known to possess dragons, like what we saw on arc1, chapter 6, page 27)
perhaps it’s linked to the end of prismatic dragons? (arc 1 ch 14 page 18) we know from things Red has said in tumblr asks that dragon eggs absorb the element of the most dominant ambient conditions, a dragon egg in a fire elemental hotspot becomes a fire dragon, etc… and that the paladins formed the conditions necessary for prismatic dragons to hatch. perhaps it was once thought that only the light dragon could possess dragons, and that prismatic dragons were a result of only light? the destruction of the lazuli temple involved draconic possession, it makes sense that the void dragon took a host here.
which would make sense if the void dragon and light dragon were part of the same primordial. 2 aspects of the same concept.
the implications of this are interesting. Kendal of course has no void in him, and no light either since the light diadem in arc 2, chapter 3, page 10 didn’t hold him. if we look back to the prologue, arc 0 ch 1 page 2, the light dragon interferes with the void dragon’s possession of the first elemental magus, and gives mind to all the elder races, perhaps the integration of void that would allow the void dragon to take control of it was the same integration of light that allowed the light dragon to give them control of themselves…
if void is necessary for normal living creatures formed of all elements, the ability to hunger and integrate into yourself what you consume, and light itself is the mind, perhaps the higher property of light/void IS the same, some sort of “mental integration”.
learning.
the ability to integrate information from outside sources, and learn from it. the very essence of mind.
this has some interesting implications for gods, who form from ambient soul energy and aren’t inherently tied down to any element. Kendal seems to learn about himself and has a sense of self without the light/void giving him a “mind”. i wonder what that means for The Twins? it makes sense that the tool the void dragon used to create would naturally be a dual aspect, The Twins must have been created/controlled by both the light and void dragon. but they were still gods, and gods weren’t necessarily created by the primordials. there are old gods of knowledge, war, and others who existed before the fall of the ancients, before the emergence of the elves and humans, who taught them the language of the primordials and gave them teachings… it makes sense if gods have a mind apart from the primordials and the light/void dragons’ creations that they could have been around since even before the twins began creating. and another question raised is why The Twins began caring for their creations? as soon as the elder races had mind, the twins began to create plants and animals to sustain them. if they truly were acting at the behest of the void dragon in an attempt to create a key to open the adamant at the heart of the world, they naturally wouldn’t care if the elder races lived or died. which explains why they wouldn’t bother to create a world to live on until AFTER the elder races gained a mind.
we don’t see any indication that The Twins continued to listen to the void dragon, nor do we see the light dragon “give them a mind”, though perhaps that is more or less what happened. we know that gods form around people, concepts, places, anything that can accumulate a god over a long enough period of time. and we have seen that gods still encompass their domain even after it changes, like Rakhn or Gleicann. perhaps once the elder races could think, The Twins ceased to be simply gods for the sake of the creation of the elder races, and became what they are now, deities that create life in all its forms.
that also makes me think about the creation of magic. elves were to open to the elemental winds, and ancients were closed to the elements. humans were the final stage in ensuring an elemental magus could arise. but no other creation of the twins except dragons could manipulate the elements at all. perhaps dragons as they are were *THE FIRST* attempt at forming a vessel which would unlock the adamant at the heart of the world. formed in the shape of the dragon’s true name, they were particularly easy to possess. arc 1 chapter 17 page 28 we see the void dragon channel void through Tynan, implying it was so easy because he had taken the dragon’s form. perhaps dragons weren’t given mind because they were so simple, or perhaps they were created later and almost immediately discarded at the behest of the light dragon’s urgings.
so many things to think about, my mind is racing! perhaps Erin is afraid the void dragon could take command of one of the dragons the paladins are bringing them, or perhaps that the void dragon is beginning to understand the transmutative power of fire? if the paladins aren’t truly incorruptible, then that just makes them a very useful source of void…
“Yer a Voidy-thing, Dainix!”
I can’t find where it was written, but IIRC the Crucible has the ability of producing or converting it into the “perfect counter” to anything it faces.
And whatever the Paladins light power is, the Void Dragons Element seems to be that perfect counter.
This feels almost exactly like reading page 1-22-45. I love when Erin puts the pieces together and confirms stuff!
Also, Falstâs wording is very dismissive of what he did. I wonder if he genuinely thinks he just âshook off that light crown thing before the rest of youâ, if he is trying to draw attention away from it to hide this from Erin, if he doesnât think itâs that important/wants to leave it for later or if Iâm reading too much into his wording xd
I get the feeling Falst was so focused on Dainix, he hasn’t quite processed that he did anything special. He probably just thinks it’s due to him being a tank with a healing factor. He’s used to pushing himself through the pain, so he thinks he pushed through the diadems more easily/quickly than the others. Keep in mind everyone “knows” Ferin are magically inert. Falst doesn’t think he can do magic, so to his mind, whatever he did can’t have been magic.
guys, i think Dainix took Absorb Elements during the last level up
Iâm so late, Happy Birthday!
You know, I love when Erin says “Don’t give me that look”, he’s looking directly at the camera. Because lets be real, we were all giving him that look
