. Alinua sinks through the water, teeth gritted in pain, blood misting from her arm. Green swirls around her shoulder as she clamps a hand on her Life mark.
. Alinua blinks in shock as something whizzes past her. Craning her head back, she sees the Wyrm roar in pain as a spear imbeds itself in its eye. More spears shoot past as she watches.
. “Right yourself, wind-blower.” The Captain extends a hand toward Alinua from above her, holding her spear upright. “This is no place for sleep!”
hopefully my YouTube recommendations don’t spoil the game for me day 1 (they definitely will and it’s gonna be some stupidly spoilery thing like the Shade Lord or smth)
To quote a guy from the OSP Discord: “Wake the fuck up, wind-blower. We got a god to break.”
I guess that slam did a number on Alinua’s arm, which is weird because it didn’t seem to have been a laceration. Anyway, Valia is back with the crew. I hope to see Caturus put in some work. Water mages are obscenely powerful underwater, so I’m curious as to what he’ll do to assist.
Seconding veggiesnakes – my first thought was that the Wyrm had rough scales. It looks like the injury is mostly shoulder, too (which I didn’t catch on the last page, whoops. This one brings a bit more clarity.) is less of a bone-breaky point and more prone to internal joint things; I’m inclined to think that the wound was abrasive.
Lunglubber: Like the landlubber insult for people unfamiliar with sailing, but instead referring to how they breath.
Airhead: maybe used to imply that land-dwellers are also stupid.
Dryfoot: especially insulting for those afraid to get their feet wet, figuratively and literally.
I would go for the ‘graceless’ for more poetic insults but the ‘clumsy’ for not being able to swim well for those who appreciate how freely they can move through the seas and water that those who live in the air are (mostly) so poor at doing.
Alinua: Whoa … you almost had my head off there.
Valia: Sorry, I’ve spent so long aiming solely for a green glowing thing with ridiculous hair; must have mixed you two up.
I thought that wound we saw last page belonged to the Wyrm, but now I’m wondering if that was Alinua’s injury we can see here. Might explain the change in panel lining colour that @Atreyu pointed out; an injury and healing on Alinua, on her birthmark arm no less, could warrant green panel lining for emphasis.
Yeah, I figured the captain wouldn’t have allowed Alinua and Selach to go without following them, both out of suspicion of the former’s motives and fear for the later’s safety. Just as well too.
Ok, the Northern Wyrm is temporarily blinded on one side, they have backup for a distraction, and Selach has seen what Alinua’s magic can do (maybe Valia saw it too); they may not get a better chance to deal with the Wyrm than right here and now. However, Alinua’s still shaken up by exploding part of the Wyrm she just resolved to help and may need time to process, time they don’t have.
And The Cavalry arrives! Let’s get ready to rumble!
My mind is weird. For some reason I heard Justice League Unlimited intro for this page. Maybe its the pose and the shadows of the last panel that triggered that core memory?
Also, Heather Alexander’s “The hunt is on” for some reason.
Slightly changed lyrics:
It is more than sport ‘tween beast and man,
For the Wyrm is sacred to our clan
And we dare not risk the ocean’s ire
For if we can’t kill then
We’d best not fire
Here then gone, clansmen cry,
“The hunt is on!”
Who shall win?
Blessed Wyrm, or mortal kin?
Let the death be clean as Life’s released
So we show our honour to the beast
For your own death, you will understand,
When you hold life’s blood within your hand
Here then gone, clansmen cry,
“The hunt is on!”
Though we draw a bow and we wield a blade
We respect the code that nature made
For we know not when the shadows fall
And the huntsman comes to take us all
Wait, the Wyrm was hit by a harpoon in the eye, last panel of the previous page?
I thought maybe Alinua had touched it by accident?
I still can’t tell what happened at the end of page 2.5.28.
I think this implies the captain followed them either out of mistrust for Alinua hurting Selah or because they were certain she and Selah would get themselves killed (which has been proved true just now). Or Both!
I just want to clarify, because I’m struggling to follow for the first time I can recall in this comic: what’s happening? The end of the last page confused me.
I’m guessing that the Wyrm tried to eat Alinua and Selach, but instead they somehow got separated and Alinua was blindsided by the Wyrm’s flank instead. Where ahe was dragged alongside the Wyrm, a little bit of its body literally melted on contact with her, making that SPLUT sound (that’s where I got lost). Now the Wyrm is repositioning (or maybe chasing Selach, who is conspicuously absent?) while Alinua heals herself and the Captain leads an attack on the Wyrm to help them. Am I missing anything?
It looks like Alinua got injured quite seriously given how much blood is in the water around her in panel one but I did not see the Wyrm hit her directly before this. Any one catch that?
First time commenting to say I ordered the book and it arrived today!! It’s so cool and I’m so happy to have it, thank you for continouing to make such a lovely comic
For mobile readers.

Oof augh ow my leg – Alinua probably
Also, on a completely unrelated note, SILKSONG TOMORROW!
heheheheheheheeeee i’m so excited for ittttt

You just need to stay off youtube for a month until you finished the whole game. Seems like a fair trade-off.
“can you lock the fuck in?” spear girl, probably
I’m liking Captain Tsundere more and more

There’s easily enough WHAM in there for her bones to start poking outside.
There probably was some sharp fin or other protrusion. Maybe the spear Selach dropped?
Fish scales are like cheese graters. Just getting dragged along the side of the Wyrm is probably enough to shred Alinua’s arm.
But we all know that sharks are perfectly smooth

“Wind Blower”? That’s an amusing insult for air-breathers. I need to remember that one.
Aurora Question #54: What other insults can you come up with for Land-Dwellers?
Mudbound
Because they have to walk on the ground/dirt, which would mostly be mud to merpeople, while merpeople can float freely
Dry.
Lunglubber: Like the landlubber insult for people unfamiliar with sailing, but instead referring to how they breath.

You can still see the injury on the Wyrm’s face!
And The Cavalry arrives! Let’s get ready to rumble!

Alinua had touched it the harpoon wasn’t throne until the second panel of this comic, hence the “whzzt” past Alinua
I think this implies the captain followed them either out of mistrust for Alinua hurting Selah or because they were certain she and Selah would get themselves killed (which has been proved true just now). Or Both!
No need to be rude

Yeah. Same. I’m hoping it gets cleared up with a long-range perspective shot. Maybe we’ll see the big injury on the Wyrm that explains it.
awooga
new submarine?
Anyone else getting “Up general. This is no place to die.” vibes or is it just me?

windblower? i thinkhe knows she isnt a mermaid
Selach had told her more or less the truth back when they were introduced. Only the others think she’s from the shallows
lets take ibuprofen together
Sinking slow, she hears spears swish by
As captain Valia makes herself known on the fly
