. Selach swerves to the side, avoiding a giant chunk of rock hitting them as it falls downward. She darts forward, trying to weave between the stones.
. As one falls past, Alinua notices a strand of seaweed trailing from it. She reaches out in desperation, the plant starting to glow as her power touches it.
. The Wyrm looms behind them, mouth open hungrily, as Alinua whips her hand around. The seaweed is wrenched from the stone and quickly grows forward, hitting and digging into the wall with a thwip.
Finally getting to this lol, orientation took a lot out of me

… Yeah, Red’s right, I’m struggling to come up with any other SFX for this. SHWIP? WRIUP? WHISP? No, a THWIP is a THWIP, it’s just so ingrained in the art of slinging a sort-of-organic line like a superhero.
Although all this superhero talk has conjured the image in my head of Alinua managing to restrain the Wyrm using just this single plant and her own powers, like that Magneto prison break scene from X2.
After relying on Selach’s swimming for so long, looks like it’s time for Alinua to start contributing. And from that look the Wyrm is giving in the fifth panel, not a moment too soon; Alinua’s light show scared her back at the start of the chapter, but Ali’s magic now might have just made her angry. I don’t think they can just escape now, not without the Wyrm pursuing behind.
Prediction for next week: vine assisted rocketing up just in time to narrowly avoid the Wyrm’s chompers. From there a quick breather to come up with a plan; Selach has seen what Alinua can do and I doubt she would want to let this opportunity pass by, even if Alinua has objections.
I would think it would have a more muffled squishy sound under water but Alinua’s plant power can work super fast even in the depths of the ocean. Sometimes it is better to use expected sound effects to meet audience expectations. (wave from far away California shores)
Tynan: Storm Man
(he wanted to make it something really cool but he took too long trying to decide on one, so the people of whatever city he was terrorizing called him that. he’s stuck with it now. he Despises it and he can do nothing about it)
Alinua – Chimeric Plague, The Life Mage, The Skyborn
Kendal – The sword of Vash, The Demigod, Godling
Erin – The Elemental Magus, The Void Wizard
Dainix – The Crucible
Falst – The Ferin, Lion-O
Tess – The Sky-Chosen, Punchy Metal Lady
the Wyrm’s design scares me so much (in a good way but oh my god that “it’s right behind me isn’t it” panel a few pages back HHHJdfjks)
can we have the tiny little one back? it was so babey. it looked like Kermit.
Honestly, I have no idea how this chapter is going to culminate , I mean we’re already in page 27! I get that this is a solo adventure for alinua but the status quo underwater is in ruins too. I guess they’re gonna figure out the wyrm , either killing or draining it of life energy. But after that there is the big question of the collector that’s no way getting resolved this chapter , we don’t know what the gang is up to at this point and I doubt that we’ll see them this chapter, assuming there will be 45 pages at most , there are 18 pages left to decide , that means 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!! Anyone got any ideas on this chapter ending?
I’m curious if the group will join her before or after the Wyrm problem is resolved. I think Kendal, Falst, and Dainix will find Tess and Erin first, but then what? They could try a messenger bird to find Alinua, but Erin can’t cast right now, so will they have to use a lacrima? Then do they try to find a way to go underwater safely or just wait for her to come out?
My prediction for the end is similar to what someone else made a few pages ago: That Alinua will find some way to save the Wyrm and, as thanks, the Wyrm will carry them on its back the rest of the way to the Helm.
Alinua’s ears specifically mutated back in 2.5.5 (along with her eyes) to be able to see and hear underwater, and we as the audience are, essentially, privy to her perspective.
Reminds me of how I used to let players use the thorn whip cantrip to pull themselves, if they target a solid object that can support the weight. Like a tree or fortifications.
I wish we could see what the Northern Wyrm had been like before becoming this mindless monster. It must be even more terrifying for the mer-people because of the transformation from what she once was.

Oooooh boy I don’t like the look of the wyrm in that second-to-last panel

Nice.

Alinua’s Pulling a Spider-man!
Alinua has become *Seaweed Spidergirly*!
Spidermaid. Because she’s one of the merpeople now 🙂

I would imagine water would make it sound deeper though. Sort of a THWOP or a SHWOP, you know?
THWIP works fine though. It’s traditional.

Aurora Question #53: What superhero (or Villain) names would our various characters have?
(Also hello, back from the dead. The Starfish Police can never get me down for long)
Erin: Magus Supreme
Tynan: Storm Man
(he wanted to make it something really cool but he took too long trying to decide on one, so the people of whatever city he was terrorizing called him that. he’s stuck with it now. he Despises it and he can do nothing about it)
Well, just use their official names.
Alinua – Chimeric Plague, The Life Mage, The Skyborn
Kendal – The sword of Vash, The Demigod, Godling
Erin – The Elemental Magus, The Void Wizard
Dainix – The Crucible
Falst – The Ferin, Lion-O
Tess – The Sky-Chosen, Punchy Metal Lady
You forgot Master of the Secret (or Mysterious) Power for Falst!
And their collective/team name: the Floof Squad.
You forgot about some better-fitting ones — the Divine Blade for Kendal, Life’s Chosen or Life’s Vessel for Alinua, and Stormbreaker for Tess.
was that a thundercats reference
Spider elf, spider elf, spins a vine out of herself
Sends it forth, to attach, and pull them out of the clifflike shelf
This needs more recognition, I was singing it in my head AND snorted out loud

Alinua: Why do I feel the sudden urge to shout ‘Wyrm your way out of that one!’?
Well Tess’ superhero name was given to us on a silver platter: Stormbreaker
Oops this was meant to be a reply to question master

Livin’ on the edge, fightin’ crime, spinning webs!
Swinging from the highest ledge! She can leap above our heads!”
It’s cool how underwater she uses seaweed instead of vines
On the topic of sound effects, how *is* there this much sound underwater???
Alinua’s ears specifically mutated back in 2.5.5 (along with her eyes) to be able to see and hear underwater, and we as the audience are, essentially, privy to her perspective.
I wonder when this page was written/drawn relative to that one conversation Red had about whether Aurora is high fantasy or superhero fiction?
I am baffled by what’s going on. I would love to know what Primordial Life’s take on this would be!
The way the Wyrm is made to parallel Alinua’s look is unsettling
I’m getting Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Lakebed Temple vibes here. Alinua definitely just improvized the clawshot.
Why is no one talking about how cute Ali’s face is in the second to last panel?
