I love the expressions on this page so much, Alinua’s face in panel one shows the suddenness of the situation so well and Selach looks so tense on panel two as it leads into a focused look in panel three. The artwork on the faces just astonishes me.
Me last page: Maybe the Wyrm can sense trespassers at her shrine and has come to defend it.

Selach coming in clutch with quick reactions and blunt common sense, Falst would approve. This chapter has been great at introducing new characters and conflicts for Alinua to interact with; it’s been great seeing them all and Alinua’s thoughts and resolve away from her friends. Selach has been a great friend to her and I’ll be sad when they eventually part ways.
Still waiting on that underwater princess carry though, or is Red saving that for the end like she did last chapter with Dainix and Falst?
Is that a spear embedded near the tip of the Wyrm’s tail? A neat visual cue of past clashes with the mer-people; using an embedded object was probably necessary as any battle damage would be healed from all that life energy.
Or … could it be one of the Collector’s knives worked into a spear? She used a knife on Vash because she knew he’d get up close and personal; maybe she went with a spear for the Wyrm instead for more reach.
Prediction for next week: Either the Wyrm will react badly to this, Alinua will get a migraine of life-vision induced pain, or both. As Alinua said, she needs physical contact, and for a good amount of time, to have any chance, and holding onto the tail will be difficult. Maybe try and grasp the mane of hair far enough away from the tongue tendrils?
I imagine we’re at a point in the story where the only way to not have a cliffhanger is to post five pages in one day.
*thinks* Which I wouldn’t mind! But it’s probably not gonna happen, so we’ll have to content ourselves with a string of cliffhangers for now.
So it’s been established that Alinua can use Life magic to follow back the entire sequence of a being’s lifetime. But the Northern Wyrm is no simple mini-chimera. Is Alinua going to be able to handle the mayhem she sees? Or is Selach going to carry her unconscious out of there?
alinua where is that life energy even gonna go. cuz when she de-chimera’d the thing in falst’s chapter, the excess energy went into the greenery around it, making it all grow. will the excess energy here just dissipate in the water?
worst case scenario would be corrupting selach 😬
I find it funny that when the party splits up Erin and Tess have the power to handle sibling drama and a Void possession (mostly emotionally difficult), Kendal and Falst can do a god-distraction gambit volcano heist (pretty gnarly), but to challenge Alinua she has to be 1v1ing a fsking kaiju.
Is she about to make them all hatch at once? Because that other image showed a lot eggs inside the creature. That would certainly finish off the large one if they all burst out, ala aliens.
But, um, I’m not certain what the little ones would do if not under control. And we know she doesn’t want to kill the big one. Maybe she is going to try to fix the levi? I’m not sure what if anything is fixable at this point.
Ooh, good point. Especially given the little glowing green patches under the Wyrm’s flesh in that second-to-last panel…
And a probable RIP to the little chimera that everyone was speculating Alinua accidentally revived. Not sure it could have gotten out of the way in time, unless the currents of the incoming Wyrm ragdolled it away.

i honestly kind of love how life and alinua seem to be blending into one another. they’re two separate people and at the same time they’re not.
I don’t know if we’ve seen enough of Life’s personality to really say that.
