My dad told me a wonderful joke today. It went something like
Dad: knock knock
Me, already knowing where this is going: who’s there?
Dad: Hike
Me: Hike who?
Dad: Daughter unknowing.
Father waits, ready to strike.
Sets the perfect trap
“B’ch I spawned from a god so you better get your guns out,
your head getting burned, ’cause guess what?
Now the sun’s out!
Kendal spittin’ sick but no, this is no farce,
Dainix, kick the beat, and Falst, drop some bars!”
“Let me be clear with you, fire-hair…” etc
(Melody and ground for lyrics shamelessly yoinked from Epic Rap Battles “Eastern Philosophers vs Western Philosophers”.)
Personally I get more Radahn vibes, mainly from the sword and how his hair reminds me vaguely of his helmet. Probably because I’ve played way too much Elden Ring tho
Yeah, all these slim, slender, and/or lean characters are aesthetically pleasing, but variety is also good. Especially when it produces a mountain of a man like Rakhn.
Actually, maybe that’s why Red drew him this way, because he’s a literal (spicy) mountain.
I wonder if that sword is made entirely from obsidian… Because it looks like it’s made from a non-metallic material and colouration would imply something akin to volcanic glass.
Always fun to see magical obsidian weapons, they’re a favourite trope of mine.
Rakhn: Especially given that tiny dagger. Now THIS (raises his blade) is a real sword, and it’s bigger than yours!
Kendal: Yes, it’s as long as a regular human is tall.
Rakhn: Wha- No, no, you’re supposed to counter my boast with a boast of your own, or an insult. Like, say “compensating for something?”.
Kendal: We’re in your domain, what could you be compensating for?
Rakhn: It’s an insult! It alleges I have- … Ugh! Never mind. (Under his breath)Did Tynan have to deal with this?
The change of scenery from the cave is nice. The barren scorched landscape is befitting the top of a mystical volcano, and the clouds behind the peak getting darker and rougher only adds to this. With the sky greying, Kendal and Rakhn are now the only bright colours on the page for the reader to focus on.
Interesting choice to give Rakhn an open air throne in what looks like a ruined temple. It gives him a very primitive warrior king vibe, but also throws up the question, where did this temple come from, and how did it become ruined?
I remember in a tumblr ask, Red said he’d been a god of the island longer than he’s been a volcano. Was this temple built by a pre-volcano civilisation on the island that was later destroyed when Rakhn changed? Did he intentionally destroy it?
Between him and his enemies? Rakhn must be referring to the northern gods; the lighthouse elf said he was butting heads with them on 2-1-8. If they were to make a move to try and take advantage of Kendal’s presence, it would make for an even bigger distraction for Falst. Though it would also put the injured Kendal in even more peril.
Prediction for next week: Looks like we’ll be following the Volcano Heist, more specifically the distraction part; maybe we’ll get Falst’s section the week after.
I’m interested as to what Kendal will say or do to distract him. He can’t ask for him to look for Erin and the others as that could compromise Falst’s mission, asking a deity for transport off the island with nothing to give in return is bad manners, and Rakhn doesn’t strike me as the small talk guy (Kendal may not know much about small talk anyway).
The enemies in question could also be the Collector and her minions. Kendal will have to get close to her to get Vash back, and Rakhn might think that risks him getting caught in the crossfire.
It occurs to me that if Kendal pretended he came for diplomatic purposes, but really wants to hear Rakhn’s side of whatever conflict is going on with the other gods, that could be a good way to get the volcano god monologuing
To make italic text you need to use the em HTML tags; “em” surrounded by arrow/angle brackets (the lesser-than < and the greater-than > symbols) and “/em” surrounded by said symbols again.
Put the “em” part at the start of the section you want to be italics and the “/em” part at the end. For example:
“This page is too quiet; a <em>CRACK</em> would be nice.” should format to:
“This page is too quiet; a CRACK would be nice.”
And it didn’t. I think I forgot to put semicolons at the end of the < and >. Let me rephrase that:
To make italic text you need to use the em HTML tags; “em” surrounded by arrow/angle brackets (the lesser-than < and the greater-than > symbols) and “/em” surrounded by said symbols again.
“This page is too quiet; a (em)CRACK(/em) would be nice.” replace those parentheses with the corresponding angle brackets and you get,
“This page is too quiet; a CRACK would be nice.”
So (em) is for italics, (b) is for bold, how do you do the others? Like (s) for strikethrough or something? I know how to do this and hopefully this works? Would this also work for italics?
Rakhn just looks so tired. Slummed atop his throne, he definitely seems to be bored. I wonder how this will go. Will Kendal tell him of his travels. Discuss philosophy. Fight one on one. Perfom charades.
Because three out of four of those all seem like valid options
I think Rakhn is going to catch onto the plan pretty quick(if he hasn’t already) but might roll with it to get entertainment
Okay I know what you meant by ‘perform charades’ but my mind immediately provided the image of Kendal sitting there with a word magically taped to his forehead as Rahkn tries desperately to act out whatever the words is and Kendal is just not getting it.
I’m still thinking that Rakhn is more interested in all of the details about what happened with the God-taker than fighting with Kendal. Like, maybe he wants a sparring match against Vash’s vessel for the fun of it, but ultimately he’d rather hear all the news that people never bring to him because he’s a volcano out in the middle of the sea.
Ok I could comment on the ominous scenery crafted so beautifully in the first panel, or the artistic choice to keep Kendal’s eyes obscured, or Rakhn’s character design (which I like! he’s a big strong fiery mountain!). But instead, I’mma say the sleeveless shirt suits Kendal and I kinda hope he keeps it. It’s tactical, since his starfire destroys fabric sleeves, and the look is cool as heck.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: let’s go pick a fight with the fire hazard with the big sword
Bluesky text: and now for something completely different
tumblr text: see you on monday!
im concerned…
also good morning and happy national pet day everyone (specifically in the us)
Speaking of National Pet Day, Rakhn’s nose looks Ferin.
Kendal makes the climb
Threatened by the volcano
Alone and outmatched

Thank you for your joke
I love talking in haiku
I’m pleased to meet you
Where is alinua?
In the snea snek’s belly. 😛
What’s a belly? Did you mean a belleh-belleh?
SUN’S OUT GUN’S OUT
wait this is grammatically incorrect. i’m implying Kendal has an actual firearm.
what I meant to say was SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT
“B’ch I spawned from a god so you better get your guns out,
your head getting burned, ’cause guess what?
Now the sun’s out!
Kendal spittin’ sick but no, this is no farce,

In a way Kendal does have firearms, what with the whole starfire thing he has going on
That’s not Fire though, we just had this conversation
And at one point his arm was made of metal, too. And, I think his bones still are.
I love how all of the damage Kendal has sustained just gave him a muscle shirt.
I think Red made a Tumblr about just that thing. Or maybe I’m conflating it with her description of the five stages of Samurai Jack dishevelment.
pleaaassee link this lmao
So glad to see Demise make his way into Aurora.
Demise really can’t get enough of blonde swordsman who are ageless can he?
Personally I get more Radahn vibes, mainly from the sword and how his hair reminds me vaguely of his helmet. Probably because I’ve played way too much Elden Ring tho
I appreciate finally getting as character with some width to them.
Girthy Man

demise demise demise demise demise demise demise
Getting Skyward Sword vibes.

Nice catch. Especially since, according to Red, the only substance capable of damaging Demonheart is obsidian.
It looks like obsidian! The edge even looks like it’s been knapped. The hilt to me looks like some kind of bone, but I could be wrong.
That is one felsic-lookin mf
On a thrown of rock Rakhn luodly voices
His disagreement with Kendal’s life choices
Corrections: “throne” not “thrown” and “loudly” not “luodly”
Rakhn: Especially given that tiny dagger. Now THIS (raises his blade) is a real sword, and it’s bigger than yours!
Kendal: Yes, it’s as long as a regular human is tall.

He’s kind of giving FF16 Clive/Ifrit vibes there, combined with a little bit of that Skyrim Jarl throne-slouch.

Skyrim Jarl throne-slouch
Great. Now I’m imagining him doing mans1ay3r’s Jarl Ballin’ rap.
How did you italicize that???
Like this , but without the spaces. You can also use “b” for bold
I can’t believe it cut out the whitespace. How am I supposed to show you how html works without whitespace?
Alright, so to do italics, do (em) Whatever you want to say (/em), except instead of ( and ) use . Hopefully that shows right.
“”text”” becomes text if you take out the quotation marks.
Hopefully this displays right.
test test
Is it html ?
less than, i, greater then, text, less then, forward slash, i, greater than
Or it might be something different and I’m making a fool of myself
whisper. CATCHPHRASE!
Mistake, CorrectionTo make italic text you need to use the em HTML tags; “em” surrounded by arrow/angle brackets (the lesser-than < and the greater-than > symbols) and “/em” surrounded by said symbols again.
Put the “em” part at the start of the section you want to be italics and the “/em” part at the end. For example:
“This page is too quiet; a <em>CRACK</em> would be nice.” should format to:
“This page is too quiet; a CRACK would be nice.”
(hopefully that all formatted correctly)
Thanks for the help everyone!

i like his boots
“If I’m gonna be displaying these DEADLY WEAPONS I wanna do it in a nice case, ya know?”
-on the internet forever
“Yeah, our team’s wisdom specialist is currently inside a sea monster, so you’re gonna be seeing a lot of this behavior.”
Vash should have woven some starmetal into that shirt, jesus christ
Kendal’s original shirt is long gone. If memory serves, his current one used to be one of Erin’s spares.
As cool as this page is and I do love it….
I’m starting to get worried about Alinua, when are we going to see what happened to her?
I think Red is being a lil’evil author and is going to let us squirm for this entire chapter.
If this means an Alinua focused chapter after the Volcano heist i’m all for it
Don’t you see? next chapter will cut back to her having a grand ol’ time with some sea people!
That’s just Standard Kendal Practice at this point bro
nice, Kendal’s gone sun’s out guns out just in time for spring irl here in the northern hemisphere
Me irl, wearing a tank top
daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry- Daddy? sorry-
DAMN BOI HE THICC
Red, you definitely got got inspired by Ganondorf for this dude. It’s a good pick.
He looks a bit like a lion ferin. I wonder if it’s just coincidence, or something else?
whY IS HE SO FINE-

He seems friendly.
He looks like a soulsborn boss. Like if Radahn ate Gwynn and took fencing lessons from Artorias.
The anti-sleeves agenda is progressing well, I see
Honestly he looks more chill than expected, dare I hope this will end well?
“No, literally, if you could take a few steps to the side you would no longer stand between us”
That Volcano God is built like freaking Kratos only on fire
Oh don’t worry he and his team have done, and ARE doing way more unwise things then this.
