Reminder to others who use f.lux, or similar programs that adjust monitor color balance for nighttime: this page (and the rest of this comic) looks MUCH better with the actual intended colors.
Also, too bad both of the dragons have wandered off and aren’t around to see what just happened.
In two senses. First: just beautiful. Second: Dainix can transmute, consciously, pure and utter darkness. What this means for so many, for Erin… I hesitate to say, but if I had cave corruption I’d be first in line.
Dainix: But… you’d be literally on fire.
Me: Better than what I’d become.
Dainix (points to Erin): The Void mage can do it without setting you on fire.
“Gonna have to add that one to the log – Power of Love may cause the Void to fail. It’s the damndest thing, somehow that never came up in Beta testing”
Transmuting the Void energy/essence within him. That one is rather obvious, given Tharaim’s cryptic exposition. Now, since we know Void is its “all-consuming hunger state” and not its pure form, what he is transmuting it *into*, that is the real question
According to Tahraim, he is ‘purifying’ Void, which seems to be a corrupted version of whatever the Light Dragon is, but not releasing it? The light is still stuck in his core, although I’m not sure if that’s a problem. I’m also not sure what this means for the Light Dragon. If she’s the pure form, then was the Void Dragon once a part of her? Or were they originally the same entity, corrupted, and then separated during the Primordial War? (We have a working theory that Primordial Fire, like Dainix, partially transmuted the Void Dragon during that battle, creating the Light Dragon).
I don’t really like the theory that the two opposite dragons used to be the same… it feels like corrupting light into void doesn’t make sense for pure opposites. Also, light is supposed to be some kind of uncorrupting/incorruptible force.
I think this is just talking about void’s secondary property: self-healong via consumption. Check the extra lore page on the seventh element where it says that attempts at artificial life forms (hommumculi?) always fail because they don’t naturally consume matter and incorporate it to heal/grow.
Were did you get light being uncorrupting/incorruptible from? Also the homunculi could heal, but they could only draw the energy from other parts of their bodies, with no way of adding outside material. That last parts were void comes in
We saw where Dainix got this void from, transmuting a light shield. They’re transmutations of each other, and according to Tahraim’s words, void is this element’s corrupted state.
The seventh element lore page reads as diegetic to me. Nobody at the mage academy admits that Light exists as an element, let alone that it’s another form of the same seventh element. At the same time, they mention in passing on that same lore page that homunculi don’t need to breathe, and Light has been associated with breath (1-22-37: “There’s breath in your body, so spend it on something!”), planting something of an indirect seed that the two are more related than they seem.
It’s also been mentioned that Fire has transmutative properties; if one believes that it can’t transmute from one element to another and only between different forms of the same element, that commits them to the belief that light and void are different forms of a single element. Not to mention what Tahraim just said last page.
And it’s not even that hard to believe that they are the same thing from a philosophical standpoint. It’s like yin and yang; to quote Wikipedia: “In Taoist metaphysics, distinctions between good and bad, along with other dichotomous moral judgments, are perceptual, not real; so, the duality of yin and yang is an indivisible whole.”
Clear progression in panels 2-4 of Dainix drawing the Void to his centre, transmuting it while it flows in, before finally finishing the process. It’s probably nothing, but I can almost swear the Light energy in panel 4 is in the shape of a great rune. I wonder if L.D. has a great rune too, or could hers be the same as V.D.’s if some theories about Void and Light’s relation are true.
This WILL be useful in the future, against either V.D. shenanigans or Paladin attacks. However, training this new ability will be a problem; Dainix still needs to get better fundamental control over his crucible form and attacking him with Light and/or Void in that unstable form is complicated and dangerous.
If Erin isn’t out of commission for a while, he’d be opposed to using V.D.’s powers more than he has to, regardless of the potential science. That leaves Falst with his potential Light abilities, and he is even more of a novice than Dainix. I’m afraid the only way to master this ability is through experience fighting the enemy again.
Predication for next week: Dainix reforms safe and sound, Falst is relieved, and Alinua is yelling to them about getting off the boat. It’s probably nothing.
Absolutely GORGEOUS
Indeed, some apart of me doesn’t want them to put that “no glowing” rule into effect lol
Noice
Alt text for mobile folk: I’m gonna have to institute a No Glowing rule after this chapter or I’m gonna go blind illustrating it.
Merry Christler!

Red. your futures so bright you have to wear shades!
Hey, has anyone heard from Cat Loving Sotry Writer recently? Am I just bad at remembering and they said that they were going somewhere?
Falst, not even a second later: MY EYES!!
we get to see a very internal changer here
Well, that LOOKS like a good thing, at least

If they don’t get a hug in Monday’s page I’ll riot
Slow down there, he’s still made of fire.
Hrrrmn. Is that glow conversion of Void Dragon energy into Light Dragon energy, or is it just the fire getting hotter?
could be either honestly! im inclined to believe the void magic transformation though, with how the panels were ordered
I think Dainix might be inventing a new, third form of dragon matter. He didn’t give off pink and orange light in Zuurith.
The corrupting hunger is gone, now he has only an appetite… FOR JUSTICE
Seriously loving how Falst is using that Lacrima to make an Air Bubble Shield any time he sees a flare-up.
Agreed! You can never be too careful about soulfire explosions!
It’s over 9000!
The dragons: There’s no way that can be right
Caliban & Tahraim: 😉
time for dainix’s magical anime girl transformation
My god… it’s full of stars!
Wow. Beautiful.

Alas, poor bubble. We knew it well.
“Gonna have to add that one to the log – Power of Love may cause the Void to fail. It’s the damndest thing, somehow that never came up in Beta testing”
Is… Is he turning into a star?
Aurora Question #32: What do you believe Dainix is doing atm?

He did it! He transmuted the void! Hooray! He bears a striking resemblance to a star, which I think is very cool.
I hope those who celebrate Christmas have had a lovely holiday, and that those who do not have a lovely day regardless.
There once was a boy made of fire
Who could transmute untamed desire
Into pure light
That defies the night
And freedom from Void does acquire.
Wow. That is some very nice rhyming
Apotheosis time.
Did you mean hypothesis?
Nevermind, I looked the word up, yoh do not mean hypothesis. You mean Apotheosis, and I should do my research before correcting people 😀
Please stop calling void just corrupted light… it doesn’t make much sense. Check the extra lore pages on the seventh element theories.

Wind is breath and that line is definitly a Falst self-sacrifice thing rather than a Light thing.
TL;DR: Please do not stare directly at the glowing ball of fire that is fighting its inner demons.
It has been 0 days since our last dialogueless page.
*looks at Alt text* I give Red a month before she breaks it. Tops.

Yes Falst your future boyfriend IS beautiful.
