. The Demon slashes his claws through the Champion’s shield, ripping out a large chunk. “What?!” The Light Dragon cries as the void streams past him.
. Kendal watches the void in shock. He braces his arms against his face, shutting his eyes, as it flies towards him.
. But, instead of hitting him, the void changes course, shifting to stream around him towards Erin, slowly sitting up.
. “Strange,” the Void Dragon muses, Void coalescing in Erin’s hand.
Oooooh. Okay. I was NOT expecting this.
I think V.D. was protecting Kendal when he moved the void, cause Kendal wants to protect everyone, and him getting burned wouldn’t help with that. And protecting everyone includes protecting Erin.
Going off of these reactions, L.D. and V.D. didn’t know that they were connected, or at least didn’t know that this could happen. And that makes sense, as normal fire can only transmute things into things of the same element, and Light and Void are different elements. But soulfire is different from normal fire, so it can transmute between different elements. My personal theory is that soulfire can transmute things into their opposite elements – Light to Void, Stone to Life, Water to Fire, and vice versa. That’s how soulfire can burn underwater – it’s making a constantly regenerating flame, transmuting the water into fire as the fire is extinguished.
I just… kinda love the Champion’s character. Just so convinced that he is right that he won’t listen to anyone else. Unfortunately that sets him up for Being Absolutely Destroyed By The Gang That He Unfortunately Did Not Do His Research On. And Did Not Listen To.
My prediction for next page: V.D. is dramatic, L.D. and Champion are confused and do… something. Maybe try to, like, make a cage around Erin/V.D.? Or L.D. speaks through the Champion again?
Maybe Champion is like “Finally, I can fight you, wyrm. You have hidden in the darkness for too long.” And then Kendal’s like “Void Dragon get back into Erin’s head” and V.D.’s like “I’m trying to HELP you Kendal jeez”
Now, how long will it be before the boat is destroyed? Few pages, maybe?
Oh and also can some people please go on Tumblr or wherever and ask Red when she’s going to update the character page? Cause we’ve met a bunch of new characters and it hasn’t yet. So. That would be helpful. 😀
I think the dragons know about each other and how they affect the other dragon. I just reread VD’s whole speech in the caves (random page button really came in clutch this time) and he foreshadows the Light Dragon (his “other”), but doesn’t mention what she was up to before he was imprisoned. Still, I imagine they know how they effect their rival.
The prologue implies she didn’t exist until just before or after the first elemental magus was made. when the elder races got their spark of sentience, the dragon blames it on a mistake of the Twins initially
After rereading the whole story (because it’s very good and easy to get sucked into regardless of how many essays on the Cold War you need to write), I think the Light Dragon predates the creation of the Elder Races, just as the Void Dragon does.
Erin says that the Paladins think that the LD created one of the twins [1.12.14], but this is while he’s talking about how stupid their beliefs are, so who knows how well informed he is about what they actually think. It also somewhat contradicts what VD says about the Twins in the cave monologue, as he acts like he can command and control both of them [1.7.21]. Why would the Twins listen willingly to VD if LD created them as well?
There’s also the wrinkle that before VD created the Storm, the Ancients worshiped both LD and VD [1.14.22]. This is undoubtedly after the incident in the prologue, but the Dragon don’t seem to be engaged in an epic battle of light and dark until VD makes an unexpected betrayal of some kind (perhaps the creation of his sigil and of the Storm). I don’t know why they would be chilling with each other for a millennia and a half* (check footnote for more information on that number) after LD gave the people free will and screwed up VD’s plans.
Everything about the dragons says they are each other’s equal and opposite [1.14.18], and I don’t think a perfect equal and opposite of VD would spring out of thin air as soon as he started getting his way [0.1.2], I assume she must have been created the same way he was, however that may be.
So this leaves me thinking that LD and VD have always shared existence, but that provokes more questions, mainly:
1: Where is LD’s physical form? I’m pretty sure they have literal physical forms and it’s not just figurative. Most of the evidence is from stone, but that’s just cause he was the only one who didn’t get super beat up in the Dragon fight, I think. The collector bases in his heart, the caves are his circulatory system, etc. The same applies to the dragons: VD seems to be literally in the middle of the planet, literally encased in unbreakable adamant, and if LD is his equal and opposite, shouldn’t she physically be somewhere too?
2: What’s the deal with the Twin-created dragons [Extra Lore: The Twins] and the Twins in general? Depending on who the Twins are actually allied to, they may have been created for either dragon to possess and fight the other one through, or just for funsies by the Twins and the dragon possession thing is just a side effect. Honestly the Twins in general are not very well understood by me. The Extra Lore page makes them seem like a couple of silly child-like artists of all life on the earth. Who are now reclusive and mysterious for the sake of making quality art. That doesn’t sound like the kind of minions VD would want to deal with. Why did he make that way? If LD made them too, how did they work together to create them if they hate each other so much? Was one made as a response to the other? Why did they both help VD then?
3, the big one: Where is LD’s element? We’ve established that VD’s element is void [1.22.45], and that it is still present despite him not being ripped to pieces and spread all throughout a planet like those other loser primordials, instead only being imprisoned in the planet’s core. So where is LD’s equal and opposite element to VD’s Void? Is this light that Mikey is using her element? What is it? Why does it turn into void on contact with Dainix’s soulfire [2.3.18, this page right now]? Does Falst have control over LD’s element? It sure seems like he does [1.22.37, 2.1.22, 2.3.13]. How does that relate to Falst’s ancient bloodline [1.20.32]? What about his Ferin condition, closed off to all other types of magic [1.9.8]? The ancient Ferin-creating mage [1.10.19]? Is that element part of people, like how the void in people makes them hunger [I CAN’T FIND WHERE THEY SAID THIS AAAAAAA]? What does it do? My best guess is that it’s free will? How does light give you free will?
These are just some of my many questions. I am excited to see answers to some and exciting to theorize about the ones that don’t get answered, but this comment has gone on long enough for being a day after the page was released and so long that most people will not read it, so I’ll cut myself off here for now.
*Where I got a millennia and a half of pre-storm time from:
6112 (year of transcription [1.14.20])
– 4000 (est years since original dictation [1.14.19])
– 200,000/380 (est sunrises since Storm creation [1.14.21] / days in an Auroran year [Extra Lore: The Calendar])
= ~1586 (when the storm would’ve been created).
This is all assuming that the “Transcribed 6112” on 1.14.20 is referring to the year, and that the same dating system had been used since the Prologue, which literally says “Year Zero” in big words on the first page, and the transcription, and that that system is the same one that’s in the Extra Lore section.
TL;DR
I think the Light Dragon existed before the prologue shows her role in the creation of people. I think she was created at the same time as the Void Dragon, whenever that was. Here are reasons for that theory and here are questions raised by that theory, as well as some general questions about the dragons.
I wouldn’t say the prologue definitely implies that, it’s really vague. I always saw that light spark thing as LD giving the mortals consciousness rather than her coming into existence, but you could be right now that I think about it. I really can’t wait until we learn more about the dragons, there’s so many questions
Nothing you said supports the idea that the prismatic dragon existed before the first 3 species. The one talking about them being equals is part of a cult that worships LD and no one involved seems to know about the ur-dragon’s very simple personality and motivations. the great devourer didn’t do anything in Ancient times until creating the storm because he couldn’t think of a way out of his prison. Everything else doesn’t seem revelant to the idea
The first appearance of The Light Dragon is page 0.1.2, as implied by The Void Dragon on page 1.7.21, that their ‘other’ was the one to awaken the mortals’ will, and the resemblance between the awakening of the mortals’ wills and possession by The Light Dragon, which both don’t resemble anything else in the comic’s world.
oh my goodness my eyes are so happy but my soul is set a-trembling…
I wonder what Voidy finds strange about this specifically. He must have known that Fire could transmute, but then seeing Void erupt from Light (or whatever it is, you get my point) wouldn’t be a surprise. Maybe that Demon-Dainix is strong enough to transmute this much? He’s probably going to awaken seeing that we know Erin himself is incapacitated. In that case, he might be about to say something like “It was pretty stupid of you to put Erin in this much danger.”
From the abyss came the stars, and the stars fall back into the abyss; the Crucible merely catalyses the process…
No, he thought he was a fragment of Fire. Which is exactly what all elemental fire magic is.
“I can’t kill it? Of course I can! I ALREADY killed Fire. A fragment cannot thwart me” (around page 36 of Firestorm)
He seems pretty convinced that there’s a huge gap in power between Dainix and the Primordial.
I don’t think so, or Red is keeping it ambiguous, we know that Erin can Manipulate void on his own, but the circlet is keeping him from doing so. But if he was in control and a paladin was right there ready to wipe him out, why would he not reveal himself? Does the void give Erin some resistance to the light.
The text bubble of the word “Strange” is very much the Void Dragon speaking. When we see Erin’s eyes it may be one of his own eyes and one of VD’s eyes – as in, Erin willingly sharing control – but VD is definitely awake and out. And that makes sense, as a few pages ago LD told her champion that the diadem can keep Erin down but not VD.
True, now that I think about it. But Erin is badly injured and still under the influence of the Diadem, and we have only seen him use void magic in extreme circumstances and with extreme precaution. Voidbending here would be a risky move, and an uncharacteristic one for Erin. He knows Kendal can take a hit of Void, and if he were to try to protect him he would probably use another element to make a shield instead (say, a wave of water). And, conspicuously, Erin’s eyes aren’t visible right now. So it sets up the moment when Walter looks up and meets Lucy’s gaze all dramatically. All in all, it at least seems a lot more likely than other options.
If it helps the discussion, I noticed the space just above his chest looks just about identical lighting-wise to the space behind him. Also, as far as I remember there’s always some grand explosion of void magic when VD takes over, and while there is void magic present, it’s nowhere near past levels. Either he now has more subtlety than a rock to the face, or Erin’s (probably) still in control.
I figured the discharge of Void was just a thing that happened with VD seeing as Erin was seeping Void from his chest during the Dr. Jolon fight and how Void was whipping around him during that intimidation attempt when there was literally no one around (referencing: 1-21-3). I don’t think we’ve seen a VD possession without some amount of Void discharge (Other than here maybe? Unclear.).
Everything? Possibly everything. There are 3 primordial beings and at least 2 sentient weapons on the boat and a big storm besides. The fact that it’s still floating at all is nothing short of a miracle, but with Voidy come out to play i imagine that won’t last much longer. If Life shows up too then i have no idea what’s happening next.
The Collector shows up and permanently changes the story’s status quo by having just about every major antagonist become aware of each other and of the many set up plot threads of the floof gang.
I think in like, 1.16.17 when Erin gets told about it, he was still paying very close attention to everything the group did and would have overheard it.
Now, did he remember it, or even properly register it? Probably not, the guy forgot/never realized that he’d been in a Paladin Archive in a matter of 12 hours. So, he did learn, maybe, but he certainly wouldn’t know anymore.
The void dragon tries to murder all the people who are still held by the diadem. A flaming rock could hit the boat. A giant wave could tip the boat over.
It would be funny if the avatar of the fire island god showed up and told everyone to go away and took this disaster far away from his island. That would not cause any confusion at all…
New idea: Tess instinctively releases an enormous burst of lightning magic, somehow triggered by the immense pain she is experiencing. And thus another Chekhov’s Gun will be fired, and the entire (em)metal(/em) ship will electrocute everyone.
Rakhn could smash the boat with a meteor, Dainix could finish destroying the boat on accident and make it capsize, the storm could make it capsize, a sea monster could show up, Dainix could gain just enough sense to fling himself overboard in an attempt to spare everyone else, other characters could end up overboard in the chaos of the fight, Void Dragon could maintain control and at some point turn on our heroes and make a break for it, the Collector could show up astride a sea monster chimera… The possibilities are endless and magnificently terrifying.
Oh… I guess I was wrong about VD staying down so long as someone else is up to fight for him.
Or I guess the void transmutation made him act.
Anyone else think it looks suspiciously like he’s protecting Kendal?
Either way, I wanted to ask something about the transmutation theory (or apparently transmutation fact):
Why did it make a new primordial?
As Stark explained to me helpfully a few pages ago, fire can transmute one form of an element into another form of the same element, for example silver to gold, as they are both part of Primordial Stone.
If that holds true for the evident light-void transmutation, why did it make a new primordial? Would Fire tearing out one of Stone’s arms and transmuting it entirely into gold have created a “Primordial Gold”?
(My personal theory to that is that it’s related to this part of Void being the mind/free will/learning or something along those lines, which uniquely granted this subset of the Dragon her own consciousness. May or may not mean that they’re the same physical being sharing two minds, but that idea has a few holes…)
It absolutely looks like VD is protecting Kendal, but this may not be out of sympathy or attachment. VD is selfish, yes, but he is also practical. And Kendal is one of the few things keeping him alive right now.
At the very least, the laws of elemental transmutation do suggest a definitive link between VD and LD. Unless they are somehow the exception to the rule, Fire’s transmutation property should not be able to affect a change between elements. So long as the rule remains internally consistent, we now have further support for the Ancient’s dragon dyad theology.
Even if the transmutation thing is, the light dragon had no hand in the creation of the twins or the elder races. We don’t even know where the twins come from. And the purple muncher definitely didn’t communicate or particularly care about the Ancients, besides them somehow giving him the idea of his great rune possession plan
The ancients knew he was there. The Paladins literally carry on their traditions.
In her book, Lady Huracan guessed VD made the storm of magic because the ancients displeased him. To me that implies a previous relationship.
I never said the Ancients never knew he existed, only that he never cared about them or their worship of him. Though I wonder why? He probably wouldn’t even passingly interact directly and they didn’t have mages to have visions of his memories
Well, four to five different shits have hit the ship’s fan at this point, and we haven’t even seen the leviathan in this chapter’s cover (which I still doubt is either of the dragons) yet. This arc is wild.
Ah yes, suppressing the mind of the vessel that himself was keeping Walter in check may have been a foolish move. Surprisingly dimwitted move from the literal brightest character on the scene. Paragons amirite?
He seemed unaware that Voidy was not already at the controls of his vessel or that the void was indeed being suppressed. If the void is not being suppressed and is just back seating, then there is no harm in suppressing the mind. There is a lot going on on this ship that the paladin and his deity seem to be unaware of. There is a lot of missing critical need-to-know information with this crew that the paladin is lacking.
Lovely showing of all the different magics working alongside and in opposition to one another; I always like those moments. The solid Light being broken, fire in a definite form but still fraying, and void as a goopy liquid getting splattered everywhere, and only flowing properly when its master commands it. (It’s also giving pretty solid evidence for the Light-Void transmutation theory, or something like it)
Following up on @Xali 512’s comment, I think there is a good chance neither dragon knows about this (assumed) facet of their connection. L.D. was born after the primordial war so wouldn’t have seen Fire’s interaction with void, and while V.D. knows his counterpart exists, that doesn’t necessarily mean he knows how she came about. I doubt even Fire knew his powers would do this.
Now they’ve both been clearly shown this link; L.D. is shocked, and I think V.D. is puzzled, maybe even curious. The real intrigue is what each of them will now do with this knowledge. L.D. and the Champion are going to view Dainix as a bigger physical threat, maybe even an existential threat. As for V.D., I doubt his plans have changed, but this knowledge may help him if he ever fights Dainix again.
Prediction for next week: Now, is V.D. directing that power to form an attack on the Champion, or is he just directing it away from Kendal to aid him in the fight? For all we know he did take Erin’s words about needing the gang’s help to heart, and knows keeping Kendal healthy in this fight is a good idea.
Maybe V.D. will join the fight now that Dainix is on his “side”, or maybe he might be arrogant himself and think this is his chance to kill everyone and escape somewhere. … Hang on a minute. We all assumed the person getting yeeted by Kendal in that sketch was the Champion. Could it actually be possessed Erin that gets yeeted?
You mean back in the Tynan fight or the primordial war? In either case I think V.D.’s attention would have been more on the fights themselves, being outmatched in one and outnumbered in the other, to think about the finer details of Fire’s powers. This is the first time he’s seen Dainix’s/Fire’s powers do this as an observer, and after his previous fight with Dainix, I think he’ll be paying closer attention to the crucibles abilities now.
I’m also curious as to how they’re gonna react to this. VD mentioned during the Tynan fight that he owes Kendal, maybe that’s also why he’s helping?
Also, I think I missed this but where’s the sketch of someone being yeeted by Kendal?
Kendal be Wakanda forevering the void stuff 🤣
This poor Champion. Literally all his big power moves someone’s been like “ACTUALLY that doesn’t work” he raided the one boat with one in a million superpowered people. He probably thought this would go a lot easier than this.
…void as a goopy liquid getting splattered everywhere, and only flowing properly when its master commands it.
I just really love how you put that. Void is chaotic, uncontrolled, and undiscriminating…unless it’s the VD (or the only living void mage…) commanding it.
I think I remember reading on one of Red’s Tumblr posts that Day-nix is the intended pronunciation. I used to think of it as Die-nix before then, though.
Lets see… Erin being used by VD can move, Raging Fire Can Move, Kendal is Immune, Falst Can Interact with LD magic… I think Alinua Could possibly move via Life’s Intent/Action, & Tess being Sky Chosen might be Lighting primal? i-is this group really best equipped to Deal with LD? I doubt the Light Paladin is gonna Join them, but I am Thinking Falst being a 7th/8th Elemental Mage. just sounds fun
I know that the diadem on Dainix’s head is causing him to be in horrible pain, which leads to him acting out of mindless, uncontrollable rage, but it looks so cool when it is on his fireform. I think he should keep it. Beauty is pain after all.
*studio audience cheers*
Glad to see VD has taken Erin seriously, at least in the regard that the group is too valuable to lose because they protect Erin.
Interesting that the Diadem is still in place on Erin’s head, but LD did say it wouldn’t hold him. I wonder if this means that the Diadem will need to be broken before Erin is able to regain control. Sounds like a job for Falst!
I had not caught on to the transmutative impact of Crucible fire on Void and Light before reading comments on the prior page. Kudos to everyone who noticed it early and who came up with some fascinating theories about the Light Dragon’s origins based on that.
Oh dear. Well. It looks like, for the moment, the Void Dragon is protecting Kendal. It’s probably in his best interests to work with the Floof Squad against the Light Dragon and the paladin for now, seeing as those two are out to thwart him and kill his vessel. But how long will that alliance hold? If the Champion is dealt with, and the Floof Squad is weakened and in disarray…
Maybe they’ll capsize or abandon ship before the Void Dragon finds an opening to turn on them. Big maybe.
Can’t help but wonder if this will cause Lucy and Michael to realize that all of these “innocents” are aware of Walter. Also at this point I’m pretty sure the entire squad will break free with Falst helping Tess and life helping Alinua. Like I get the skeptics of life not showing up due to the lack of lacrima but I solely believe that this will happen because nearly everyone else is free so I think it’d be hilarious if everyone showed up. also I think Falst is probably with Tess helping her since he’s probably not doing nothing and it’s kinda the only thing he can do to help that’s offscreen. I will mention as well that I’m pretty sure the boat sinking is a matter of when not if.
Well, after this, we’re just waiting for Life, now.
Alinua could make that super vine form out of seaweed or something.
(I highly doubt that’s actually going to happen but it would be funny.)
Yup. Let’s look at this from Voidy’s perspective, shall we? Here comes a paladin who turns off consciousness of the vessel actively fighting Voidy and preventing him from gaining control. He also turns off consciousness of two other people that Voidy is scared off. Question: what is left to keep Voidy at bay?
Tbh. This feels like a best case scenario. Am I crazy? Yes, but hear me out: Kendal, Erin, Crucible-Dainix and gang already dealt with this before. If they do it again, the paladin will know they’re able to keep goidy contained –> Win! If they have issues, the paladin’s there to help them out and they can deal with them later–>Win!
Yeah, the Void Dragon is patient and trying to kill everyone, and the Light Dragon is IMpatient and WILLING to kill everyone present as collateral damage.
We’ve seen a panel of a Yeetening, and now I’m wondering whether Kendal yeets LD to PROTECT them; to keep VD from winning because team floof agrees that having LD around to fight is good. Maybe still believing that LD’s murderous impulses are due to insufficient information.
If the Champion is killed blue eyes will still have to rest of the paladins to work through. She’s not actually in his body, just channeling their voice and power through him. The same is true with purple and Erin, though he would have no other backup plans
not really, for starters dainix has his thoughts inhibited by the diadem and its acting on pure anger and instinct but the big problem here is that the problem isn’t keeping the V.D contained…
keeping Walter contained is a good solution for now but even erin doesn’t know if the soulshaper monks can fix the dragon issue(he says he has other contingencies in petrichor) but the thing is that erin is living on borrowed time, this is the 3rd time walter manifested (4th if we count the one where he almost manifested at the end of the hilltop arc).its only a matter of time until we get a situation where dainix alinua and kendal are in a spot where they would be unable to contain Walter and he escapes(maybe even killing one of them in the process), this became a even bigger probability now that the collector began giving chase to the group
I’m actually excited to see Walter! TIME FOR A KAIJU FIGHT!
But seriously, seeing these two ancient enemy entities interact is going to be a lot of fun.
Ah yes the one thing that can get through an everything proof shield. NOTHING. VOID. ABSEBCE. WHY WOULD IS YOUR ONE WEAKNESS THE THING THAT YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO DIGHT YOU MORON.
Hi! So that’s not exactly what’s happening here; Dainix isn’t eroding Michael’s Light-Shield with Void Energy. He’s TRANSMUTING the Light-Shield into Void Energy. It’s not that the Light-Shield is specifically weak to Void, it’s that Dainix is fundamentally transforming the shield into something that Michael cannot control. It’s as if, instead of breaking through a rock wall, Dainix has turned it into a swarm of bees. The shield may be unbreakable, but it isn’t the shield anymore.
The “guest of honour” has finally made an appearance. I was beginning to wonder if he was keeping quiet due to Erin’s injuries and to try and avoid drawing MORE danger to his vessel…but I guess ‘the ship is literally on fire’ has pushed past his threshhold. Or maybe he just likes dramatic timing.
It also occurs to me that while the diadem is like “hornets in your head”, it doesn’t shut off your other senses, meaning Erin can presumably hear everything going on around him just fine…and nothing is stopping him from communicating with Walter during that time, either.
As Rai626 said, it certainly DOES look like they’re protecting Kendal. Kendal has proven useful on two previous occasions in keeping his vessel alive, and I’m betting one thing they don’t like is being in someone’s debt, mortal or immortal. But no mistake, he only has a vested interest in keeping Erin alive. The others drowning, burning, becoming void corrupted or falling victim to ‘paladin justice’? Cost of doing business. Unless Erin is ALSO in the driver’s seat, the others are cannon fodder. Or sea monster food. Whatever.
I’m still gonna blame this one on the Light Dragon Avatar until given evidence otherwise. Erin was probably pushing himself too hard, but the Void Dragon probably would’ve stayed “asleep” if the Light Dragon hadn’t shown up.
What is happening! Did Dainix just use void magic? Did the Void dragon just protect Kendal? I’m so excited for what’s about to happen, this is a great Friday cliff-hanger.
Dainix didn’t use void magic, he used fire, the element of transmutation, to turn light into void. Normal fire mages can turn elements into different versions of that element, but I’ve seen the theory that Dainix’s soul fire can transmute between elements, not just between elements of elements, if that makes sense
Kendal: thank you for making sure I didn’t get Void burns on my eyes when Alinua can’t make them go away right now, but please go back to sleep and do not make things worse for everyone on this ship.
Uh guys,I got news that might cause u to flip ur table .I went into tumblr (through the link evil tree sent in the comments)and I scrolled down for a bit and I found
out that Red nicknamed the palladin ‘Anakin’
So Idk if we’re Gonna keepcalling him Michael Or if we’re gonna call him’master Skywalker’ or ‘Lord Vader’
Another fight scene that’s just unreadable light pukes. This was probably the first hand-to-hand fight scene as well, and it was just two panels before Red gave up and made fire monster puke all over blue light monster. Unfortunate.
Does anyone know if Red allows readings / voice actings of her work? I really want to do a fan dub with friends just for my own entertainment but I don’t know if Red has explicitly stated at some point she doesn’t allow those.
There was a fan dub by someone else, but they had to stop only 2 chapters in. You can still find it on YouTube.
She approved of that one, so unless something’s changed yours should be okay with her.
Hello. I currently run the Aurora Fan server. The server was originally created to make a fan dub, but life got in the way and the creator had to put the project on the back burner and then all but cancel it.
HOWEVER! If you were interested in reviving the project I could facilitate contact with the creator of the old fandub and I am beyond certain some people on the fan server would jump at the chance to voice these characters.
I suppose it makes sense for fire to have an element of consumption. Perhaps rather than just converting matter to different states, the soul fire beast consumes entirely? Or converts matter into energy? Maybe our fireman is nuclear!
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: the void dragon with the steel chair??

tumblr text: see you on monday~
My guess is after each ark. Also, I bet this was a good trick for Elemental Fire at parties.
He just yells “what have you done?!”, we don’t really know who he’s addressing.
Your prediction for the following pages’ interaction reminded me of one Murder Drones quote
Kendal: “VD, give Erin back his sentience”
I’m now imagining Walter yelling “BITE ME” to anything that threatens him (Primordial Life, the Light Dragon, etc.)
Bluesky/Twitter text: at least we’re all confused together
Whoaza, not usually this early
Wonder how badly hurt the Champion is gonna be.
It looks like mind control only makes things worse…
oh my goodness my eyes are so happy but my soul is set a-trembling…
I wonder what Voidy finds strange about this specifically. He must have known that Fire could transmute, but then seeing Void erupt from Light (or whatever it is, you get my point) wouldn’t be a surprise. Maybe that Demon-Dainix is strong enough to transmute this much? He’s probably going to awaken seeing that we know Erin himself is incapacitated. In that case, he might be about to say something like “It was pretty stupid of you to put Erin in this much danger.”
From the abyss came the stars, and the stars fall back into the abyss; the Crucible merely catalyses the process…
He definitely knows what Fire could do, so maybe the light to void thing is caused by whatever separates soulfire from regular fire
Or they’re surprised that Dainix’s fire is powerful enough to do it. I imagine there’s a big gap in strength between mages and Fire himself.
I don’t like that explanation, but look at this: https://comicaurora.tumblr.com/post/689902510132150272/red-holy-shit-this-panel-how-do-you-do-magic
He though Dainix was Fire. Look at this: https://comicaurora.tumblr.com/post/689902510132150272/red-holy-shit-this-panel-how-do-you-do-magic
*thought and they just expected him to die, not transmute anything
No, he thought he was a fragment of Fire. Which is exactly what all elemental fire magic is.
“I can’t kill it? Of course I can! I ALREADY killed Fire. A fragment cannot thwart me” (around page 36 of Firestorm)
He seems pretty convinced that there’s a huge gap in power between Dainix and the Primordial.
I think Void *didn’t* know that Light came from him. Between this and what Fire did before, it should let him connect the dots.
or perhaps the light dragon was derived from the void dragon somehow and the soulfire was changing it back?
Wait did they BOTH not know?? Also poor Kendal he definitely does not know
The everything-proof shield wasn’t so everything-proof.
Wow, up early for new job and got to Aurora when it dropped.
This is starting to look like a flood squad recruiting center
Be all you can be & keep u to your locks, sign on bonus seems limited to capes and friendship
The Champion seems by this Void quite aghast
Kendal braces, and Walter makes entry at last
I don’t think so, or Red is keeping it ambiguous, we know that Erin can Manipulate void on his own, but the circlet is keeping him from doing so.
Both explosions were delibrate moves to remove Alinua from play and the dragon needs Erin’s mouth to speak away from his prison.
Unclear.).
The black edge rips through the shining wing,
Ribbons of twisting void.
Into Erin’s raised palm the darkness dances,
Despite the white crown deployed.
Aurora Question #18: What else can go wrong on this boat?
The Collector shows up and permanently changes the story’s status quo by having just about every major antagonist become aware of each other and of the many set up plot threads of the floof gang.
i mean walter already knows whats up with the collector but yeah the paladins becoming aware of the collector and her goals would be a game changer
I am sure he never learned.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN
every so often I remember that the chapter cover had a sea monster ish tail on it and then I get worried
plot twist the kraken wants to help.
Big fisph
The boat sinks and Falst has to use Chekhov’s Magic Air Bubble as the fight continues underwater.
The void dragon tries to murder all the people who are still held by the diadem. A flaming rock could hit the boat. A giant wave could tip the boat over.
Rakhn finally notices what’s going on just off his shores and hurls fireballs at the ship. (Not serious)
They’ve not dealt with any Weird Island Sh*t (TM) yet, so there’s still lots.
OVERBOARD CHARACTERS!!
Every new page is a cliffhanger shaped dagger in my little impatient heart
falst give a lacrima do alinua *QUICK*
Something something Kaiju fight.
But the dragon would have seen how is energy interacted with Fire’s
Here you go: https://comicaurora.tumblr.com/post/758845385574957056/in-my-continuing-experimentation-on-refining-my
That is the Champion. You can tell by his intact sleeves
Kendal be Wakanda forevering the void stuff 🤣
This poor Champion. Literally all his big power moves someone’s been like “ACTUALLY that doesn’t work” he raided the one boat with one in a million superpowered people. He probably thought this would go a lot easier than this.
that wasn’t supposed to be a reply oopsie 🤣
…void as a goopy liquid getting splattered everywhere, and only flowing properly when its master commands it.
I just really love how you put that. Void is chaotic, uncontrolled, and undiscriminating…unless it’s the VD (or the only living void mage…) commanding it.
SHRIPP is a fun sound effect.
what about SHRIIIMP
That’s how i read it at first lmaooo
Boy do I love SHRIIIMP for dinner
Whelp, the situation has officially escalated past the point of no return.
Yeah, I give it another 45 seconds before the boat is reduced to splinters and twisted metal. 90 seconds tops.
Could be worse like, actually nevermind. I was thinking Life but that may just help the situation
uh oh lol imagine they kill this guy
Is the Void Dragon absorbing the Void being transmuted?
I have a random question. Is Dainix pronounced as Day-nix or Die-nix (as is ai making an Ah-ee sound)
I say Day-nix but idk if that’s right or not
I also say it Day-nyx in my head but I have no clue
Everything-proof isn’t proof against nothing. (think about it)
“OH MY GOD!! Okay, it’s happening! Everybody stay calm! Stay- stay calm! STAY F*CKING CALM!!!!”
Now is NOT the time, Walter!!!
FINALLY! I was starting to think VD wasn’t home.
Oh no, my Hubris is coming into full force.
Big maybe.
I do feel a bit better knowing I wasn’t the only one who missed that entirely ^_^;; I can’t wait to see where THAT leads.
(Also the utter look of shock on Michael’s face right now? Priceless.)
Oh good, I wasn’t the only person who didn’t catch the void-to-lught thing that people were pointing out
Now I feel better too! I wasn’t the only one, hooray! *fist bumps of solidarity all around*
HAHA HES IN DANGER
What if life though
Ah damn, it’s this clown again.
Says Liquid Void Dragon
Panel 1-4 reaction: so Light can be transmuted into Void, that’s interesting
Panel 5 reaction: … ah cr*p…
Well, after this, we’re just waiting for Life, now.
Alinua could make that super vine form out of seaweed or something.
(I highly doubt that’s actually going to happen but it would be funny.)
This Light Dragon fellow is gonna get his world rocked in so many ways this fight.
Well. . . at least its nice that void is stopping Kendal from being burned. So, that’s a plus.
Uh, is this an oh-no or an oh-yes…?
Personally, I think this is a holy sh*t. Could be good, could be bad, but definitely intense enough to deserve an exclamation
Answer: nothing.
If Kendal doesn’t know that, the point stands. Unsure how high his Paladin Lore stat is.
He knows whats up with Erin and Alinua, so he probably already made the assumption
not really, for starters dainix has his thoughts inhibited by the diadem and its acting on pure anger and instinct but the big problem here is that the problem isn’t keeping the V.D contained…
keeping Walter contained is a good solution for now but even erin doesn’t know if the soulshaper monks can fix the dragon issue(he says he has other contingencies in petrichor) but the thing is that erin is living on borrowed time, this is the 3rd time walter manifested (4th if we count the one where he almost manifested at the end of the hilltop arc).its only a matter of time until we get a situation where dainix alinua and kendal are in a spot where they would be unable to contain Walter and he escapes(maybe even killing one of them in the process), this became a even bigger probability now that the collector began giving chase to the group
its alarming sure but you gotta admit it’s nice to see the paladin proven wrong literally immediately
TL;DR: Voidy awakens…
The party don’t start till Walter walks in…
The “guest of honour” has finally made an appearance.
Whatever.
Think we’ll get dueling monologues next page?
Now that you mention it, he does seem a lot like Peter from divergent with the whole not liking to be in debt thing
I should mention, This Is Awsome! And even though its 2D, viewing on a VR hmd is highly recomended.
Nani?
COMBO
WOMBO
I’m still gonna blame this one on the Light Dragon Avatar until given evidence otherwise. Erin was probably pushing himself too hard, but the Void Dragon probably would’ve stayed “asleep” if the Light Dragon hadn’t shown up.
None of this would have happened if Michael/LD hadn’t showed up…
But then where would the plot be!
I hope Erin is stillnthere even if Voidy has joined the chat.
So I’m writing this my first comment as my dorm floods
Poor Kendal. He’s barely had time to process Dainix’s Crucible transformation, and now Walter’s come out to play…
even MORE of an uh-oh!
Kendal: thank you for making sure I didn’t get Void burns on my eyes when Alinua can’t make them go away right now, but please go back to sleep and do not make things worse for everyone on this ship.
I want to see this animated SO baddddd
That would be amazing, I would pay so much for taht
V.D:Guess who’s back,back again
Guess who’s back,tell a friend
Uh guys,I got news that might cause u to flip ur table .I went into tumblr (through the link evil tree sent in the comments)and I scrolled down for a bit and I found
out that Red nicknamed the palladin ‘Anakin’
So Idk if we’re Gonna keepcalling him Michael Or if we’re gonna call him’master Skywalker’ or ‘Lord Vader’
i personally am calling him “michael skywalker”
Another fight scene that’s just unreadable light pukes. This was probably the first hand-to-hand fight scene as well, and it was just two panels before Red gave up and made fire monster puke all over blue light monster. Unfortunate.
If you think this is unreadable I’m afraid that’s a skill issue on your part.
Does anyone know if Red allows readings / voice actings of her work? I really want to do a fan dub with friends just for my own entertainment but I don’t know if Red has explicitly stated at some point she doesn’t allow those.
You should probably ask her directly on twitter or tumblr or something. She doesn’t read the comments
There was a fan dub by someone else, but they had to stop only 2 chapters in. You can still find it on YouTube.
She approved of that one, so unless something’s changed yours should be okay with her.
Ooh yes I would love to see that
Hopefully you get farther than that other one
