Alt-text: tess finally bringing representation to the “sitting on furniture you get yelled at for sitting on” community

To me, it is more that Tess is adding a 3rd perspective. Erin’s just eager and impatient, and would probably much rather have people acknowledging his reasoning than for Tess to swoop in and convince everyone.
Tynan (in his dagger): It’s not fair! I’m the one who should be menacing them across the sea!
Tahraim: Oh, you!
Well, this is rather different from the predictions I was making in 2-1-8 about how the gang could vote. I thought Alinua would mostly follow Kendal’s option, but it’s going the route @FORGE suggested and she follows the best interests of Kendal and by extension Falst; she’s even the first one to object to it. Dainix is in the no camp, not because of the godly danger of Rakhn, but the practical danger of leading an injured party into a location they have scant information about.
Tess being in the “go” camp surprises me. Although she did doubt her ability to change Erin’s mind, and this seems less an endorsement, and more just stating the facts. If they don’t go now they’ll be stuck for much longer which brings it’s own dangers; Erin may have deduced the Paladins are after them, but no-one suspects Shrike.
Third option is Grimside, but from Erin’s expression when the harbourmaster mentioned it in 2-1-1, I get the feeling that town lives up to its name. Some shady stuff happens on Aurora, Tess’s backstory and Zuurith are proof of that; I get the feeling Grimside may have a reputation that Erin wants to avoid on principle.
What are the odds the storms will blow them there anyway? I know if I came up with a location name as cool as Grimside I would have to make the characters go there.
Also possible. If they do end up blowing there, and the boat sinking, they might be separated as well; several members of the gang could be in danger if they wash up alone without Erin’s connections. … Oh, I’m scared now.
The storms and potential god activity may even force them to sail to Grimside intentionally, in a literal “any port in a storm” situation.
Comes down to Falst and Kendal as a tie-break then. And judging by his face, I think Falst will vote to go just to spite Dainix. I know he’s got a crush, but that probably makes Dainix’s protectiveness seem that much more patronising (even if it’s meant well). And Kendal will obviously vote a) with the majority, because he’s kind of a people pleaser, and b) with the time-conscious option. The longer they wait to solve Erin’s problem, the longer he waits to save Vash.
I concur! And even if we were unsure, we have the advantage of knowing how unlikely it would be that Red would let her characters rest for any longer than necessary – so hup! Let’s go! You can’t keep the plot waiting gang!
I mean, this is the Floof Gang. The odds of them having a nice peaceful sea voyage are not even worth mentioning.
It makes sense to be wary of setting out when they’re not at 100%.
But do they have a choice in the matter? No.
Right? They all have good points, but Tess has the right of it — it’s not great, but it’s only going to get worse, and waiting out the months isn’t an option. They kinda just have to go for it.
And although we all know SOMEthing is going to go catastrophically wrong, I hope it doesn’t cause a rift — or result in Erin taking on too much when, once again, he can’t keep everyone safe. Tarren is right — you can’t win an argument with the ocean (I’m a Maritimer, can you tell? :P)
If I had a nickel for every time the “sitting on furniture you get yelled at for sitting on” community gets representation in indie media I love, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice.
It’s hilarious to see Erin’s whole “there’s nothing I can’t control” theory fall apart immediately with his ALLIES. Forget his enemies or, you know, nature.
I feel like his reaction to Dainix was just that. He walked in prepared to deal with Alinua’s objection and may have known Tess would be in the ‘go’ category. But Dainix caught him by surprise — I’m guessing Erin frequently travels (and works) alone. He’s pretty good at moving pieces on the board, but he doesn’t know how to work on a team.
Not sure if he’s counting on Falst agreeing with him because Falst has no self-preservation instinct (and hates being protected) or if they’ll both die of shock upon agreeing on something.
After 4ish months, I’ve finally caught up, and now don’t know what to do with my life. Jokes aside though, this is probably — in my subjective opinion — the best comic I’ve read! I love how it turns old tropes into something dynamic and interesting. (e.g. the more recent scene when Alinua and Kendal were looking at nature) And the lack of focus on “ships” has been a major plus for me. And don’t get me started on the art! I love this style so much! Floofy hair, glowing effects, amazing backgrounds, distinct character designs, and more! This comic has been something I looked forward to reading at the end of hard days, and will now look forward to 3 days a week!
“Erin we’re playing with gritty realism rules, we can’t just re-generate all our HP overnight. And you KNOW that the GM has been waiting to use all those ocean terrain random monster encounter tables they’ve been so excited about.”
Also, I just love the profile panel of Dainix staring Erin down so much.
I mean assuming this is 3.5/pf rules this is level +Con. Kendal has con for days so he should be right as rain soon. Falst is more of a problem as I’m not convinced he has a positive con modifier, just some feats and racial abilities granting him DR, maybe it’s a template?
I really like that Allinua isn’t the only one advocating for rest, some stories too easily make one person the naggy mom of the group. Dainix bringing up the very valid point of people needing preparation. Alas, the plot needs to move forward for reasons other than Erin’s impatience, so Tess’ point of the storms fits in neatly with classic adventure timelines.
Oh man. This is a tough call. My gut reaction lines up with Alinua and Dainix, but Tess raises a good point.
Specific things I like in this page:
– Poor, put-out Erin in panels 1 and 2
– Dainix, towering in all his absurdly fit Ravvan and ex-gladiator glory
– Falst’s face in panel 8, recognizing the cloaked callout and feeling a mite testy about it (?)
– Dainix’s stern face in Panel 9
– Tess sitting on non-chair furniture. Proud member of the sitting-in-high-places-I-shouldn’t crowd
– Everything about Alinua

Tumblr text: debate time!
Twitter text: To plot, or not to plot
It’s all coming together.
Love how Tess is the only one on Erin’s side!
But time isn’t
To me, it is more that Tess is adding a 3rd perspective. Erin’s just eager and impatient, and would probably much rather have people acknowledging his reasoning than for Tess to swoop in and convince everyone.
Guess they have to leave
While it’s best to get some rest
Time’s not on their side
Dag nab it Time! Either forcing people to wait or rush you always are!
Item unlocked: Overly Sarcastic Erin! *item get music*
Alinua the healer and Dainix the Ravvan
Want time to rest and heal.
“Time’s not on our side,” warns Tess,
As more storms from to wrest their keel.
The GOOD NEWS alas are met with resistance
Can they leave yet, even with Tarren’s assistance?
Falst knows who that’s directed at.
i was just about to mention Falst’s facial reaction
You know things are serious when two siblings agree on something. Aw, I wanted to see more of speed-demon Tarren >:
So, it’s either go as soon as possible or wait several months.
Waiting seems like a rather poor choice all things considered.

Erin is showing good ideas & vision, while Tess is being practical. Sounds like a winning combination to me.

Agreed! Falst looks very grumpy about staying in the same place for too long
something something “tactical”

Phineas and Ferb *would* be interested in a dangerous, experimental vehicle.
well with THAT kind of personification you gotta make Primordial Time a thing now—
Anyway, Tess being the only one to take Erin’s side is a nice touch. She really does have his back.
Good to see Tess supporting Erin!
There once was a floofy gang
That had a lively harangue
About whether to go
Fast or slow–
Either way will end with a bang.
It’s hilarious to see Erin’s whole “there’s nothing I can’t control” theory fall apart immediately with his ALLIES. Forget his enemies or, you know, nature.

OMG TESS CLOSEUP TESS CLOSEUP TESS CLOSEUP TESS CLOSEUP
Dainix: SomeBODY needs to stop sacrificing them and actually LAY DOWN and REST

I started Aurora a few days ago at my QPP’s request, and now I’m done. What a ride. Can’t wait to see where this story goes next.
Welcome to the fandom!
TL;DR: Expectations, meet reality.

I died laughing at the first two pannels.
