I like Argist, so I’d love him to succeed here, but I’m afraid the floof squad will have to come back here and clean up a great mess the Collector is about to make of this city…
Argist seems like he’s mostly just concerned for the wellbeing and prosperity of him and his people, which is really nice to see from a city God, *cough* Zuurith *cough*. Definitely getting more of a diplomat vibe from him than anything else. Makes sense since he is a port city that has to maintain good relations with a lot of other cities and people groups, including merfolk which would likely have very different cultures than land dwelling societies.
It could go wrong in so many different way, but guess would be that the gods can not bridge there differences, unlike Kendal who really fixated on it, something about the sole reason he exists for some strange reason (just to encourage people to read the wonderful beginning of this epic story)(yes, I am serious, well may be a little tongue in check but still go back, this story ages well!)
Three ideas: a dragon, Kendal gets hurt again, and Tess Hits Something With Lightning.
However, for some reason I have an idea floating around my head that Voidy somehow manages to stop Erin from using his magic? I don’t know, I just feel like something is coming and it’s going to get Erin. If he’s in a coma within the next few chapters, I would like bragging rights please.
My guess would be that they do something that Argist told them not to do, but they still found a loophole so he can’t get that mad. Or maybe the boat Erin’s on will sink or smoothing.
Well, whatever they do, it’s going to be something Argist is not happy about.
No, we can’t. It’s not permitted. Please check the comments section rules before posting. Awesome ocean gods dissing in a spray of beautifully rendered ocean foam is considered off topic.
oh stop it we ABSOLUTELY can. I for one absolutely adore the amount of variation in texture as Argist dissolved; it wasn’t just a pretty color but actually LOOKED like they was made of sand and water.
On one hand it’s nice to see the Powers that Be actually try to affect change instead of sitting on the sidelines, but there’s still a worrying sense of arrogance that they’re underestimating the collector. Goes to show how dynamic the setting is!
Argist plans a moot of the gods,
Pooling their knowledge against the Collector.
The tools and power of gods and spirits,
Combined shall surely defeat her.
Argist thanks Kendal, demigod and living vessel,
But gives him no more part to play:
“We would not ask you to die for us…
Please enjoy your stay.”
Went from “I” to “we” within three pages, exciting development!
Also Argist looks damn cool. Looked?
Anyway I hope they manage to pinpoint and do something about the Collector. Currently I am more worried about her, than the Void Dragon. Voidy is a talker, a gloater, an unfathomable ancient evil. The Collector likes dissecting beings, experiments on gods to find out the nature of things and is unhinged beyond description.
They will have to import Floof from reliable sources, such as the Floof squad since it provides high quality and fairtrade Floof without mistreating any floofy being.
Argist mentioned emissaries, So it sounds like it will be groups of mortals -which wouldn’t present such a useful target for the collector – but a large gathering of notable gods does sound like the sort of thing the collector would crash.
These two could make the most successful shampoo commercial together. Also, i’m very intrigued at the mention of “higher gods!” i thought they only existed for cities!
no, city gods are just one type. all gods have domains, such as city gods and their cities, but others such as tynan and ilia are nature gods, with their domains being a storm and a lake, respectively, and others such as caliban and tarhaim seem to have much larger domains, such as how tarhaim is the god of smithing
That sounded more like Kendal wasn’t something (someone) they can replace or fix as easily. Still being much more than a dick, but Argist appears to think of that as being kind “no you don’t need to put yourself in danger.”
I don’t think Argist meant it unkindly, given the whole nonhuman perspective/blue-orange morality thing, though it definitely comes across that way. But on the other hand, Kendal’s existence is still an anomaly–I don’t think any god has ever considered that an incarnation could develop a life and soul of its own. It would be like the suit in your closet suddenly coming to life after you took it off one evening. Although given the theories as to how and where Kendal’s soul came from (to say nothing of thr circumstances of its emergence), the analogy isn’t the best.
There have been a couple comments pointing out that a gathering of gods sounds like an excellent place for the Collector to show up; I wonder, should that occur, if conditions would be favorable for the genesis of other demigods, or if there were specific factors that led to Kendal’s coming into being…
Most Gods make their bodies a lot less durable than Vash did. It’s why Zuurith’s body could be destroyed by Vash so easily – it was a quick amalgam of elements, whereas Kendal’s body is built for battle. There may also be a matter of time – it’s mentioned very early on that the old robot protectors of Vash tended to develop a primitive intelligence of their own after a while, moving on their own, in theory due to Vash’s repeated and extended habitation of these bodies rubbing off enough soul energy to form a new one. Kendal’s body has been in regular use by Vash since he forged it after defeating Tynan. And this doesn’t even take into account potential other reasons Kendal might have manifested.
All this to say that I’m pretty sure Kendal’s circumstances were unique and unlikely to happen again.
My best guess is that Kendal only came to be due to a combination of Vash having an uncommonly sturdy incarnation and Alinua’s healing; without both of those I don’t think he would have been alive for long, if at all.
Please comment more then! Include specific details to please our hosts (Red and the rest of Overly Sarcastic Productions) and share your view with us too! I liked Kendal’s pensive look, arms wrapped around the only connection he has of Vash now. Panels seven and eight show Argists fluid/watery nature I think, so we are given a visual clue into their nature.
It’s fine. This is fine. After all, we need to get our try/fail cycles in somehow.
I have to say though, it’s refreshing to see the high-power NPCs actually own a problem and try to fix it without relying on adventurers for every little thing.
I think Argist and the other gods must not know about (or count) the lesser gods the Collector grabbed, experimented on, and I think killed. So they’re vastly underestimating the danger she poses.
You know, there’s something so nice and refreshing about a story where the gods are acting in the interests of the hero and acting with all of their power to help.
I’m so tired of stories where the gods/generally powerful allies don’t really care about the protagonist/ cannot be trusted to act in their best interest.
Oh boy. Hubris of the gods. Or, at least, the hubris of one particular, beautifully drawn god.
I appreciate that Argist is trying to take a burden off of Kendal’s shoulders and keep him safe. He seems genuinely kind and like he has Kendal’s wellbeing at heart. However, I think he is dangerously underestimating the Collector. She captured Vash, after all. And I think he is underestimating Kendal… or Kendal’s stubbornness, if nothing else.
Placing a bet now that Kendal will be all, “You didn’t have to ask because I VOLUNTEER” down the line. Y’know. Just given that he’s the protagonist and he does not look happy about sitting on the sidelines in this page. Which is understandable. I would be upset too if the entity who was basically my dad was in mortal peril and I was told I couldn’t do anything about it.
This page went in a direction I didn’t expect, and I love it.
The design of this God makes me want to sit and draw fanart for hours on end; I love it! And ah yes, the most fool proof plan of all: Telling the protagonists not to plot – This cannot go wrong in any way.
Thank you for making this wonderful comic Red, I have been sick with a very unpleasant cold the last several days and I spent literally all day today just reading this whole thing and doing basically nothing else and it’s been the nicest day I’ve had in a while.
Also, I appreciate how hard you have worked to make sure your characters can all take a hit and not be laid up in the hospital for months afterwards except in extreme circumstances. Between the healers and just being generally tougher than most people it’s no wonder they’re getting so used to just throwing themselves at problems and assuming it’ll work out

See, she SAYS that, but I can’t tell if this is a plot page, a character page, or a world page.
Why can’t it be all three?
I like Argist, so I’d love him to succeed here, but I’m afraid the floof squad will have to come back here and clean up a great mess the Collector is about to make of this city…
Yeah, he’s nice and all, but he’s not nearly important enough to actually succeed.
The Powers That Be seem to not seek to sit idly by…
definitely not first but early :3
I was not aware of this historical use for “moot,” neat! Also, tool, oof
Argist seems like he’s mostly just concerned for the wellbeing and prosperity of him and his people, which is really nice to see from a city God, *cough* Zuurith *cough*. not the *cough cough*
I wish I could also dissolve into my base elements and vanish into the nebulous field of my domain as soon as conversations get awkward
It would be a neat party trick.

Anonymous Aurora Question #44: How is this plan going to go horribly wrong?
Good question! My money is on “something blows up,” but my money is always on “something blows up.” I like explosions.
I think they may be defeated by the collector when they all come together, because how could convening all the gods in one place ever go wrong
Bad boat stuff. Probably a shipwreck or something

Okay but can we talk about how cool Argist looks
No, we can’t. It’s not permitted. Please check the comments section rules before posting. Awesome ocean gods dissing in a spray of beautifully rendered ocean foam is considered off topic.
oh stop it we ABSOLUTELY can. I for one absolutely adore the amount of variation in texture as Argist dissolved; it wasn’t just a pretty color but actually LOOKED like they was made of sand and water.
Guards! Guards!
Alright pal you’re going away for a long time…

I was up really late last night writing.
Argist’s can do-attitude is apparent
He takes up the job like Kendal’s co-parent
This one’s a bit nonsensical, my apologies.
Went from “I” to “we” within three pages, exciting development!

Also Kendal <3
Mm. This ain’t going to work, isn’t it. They may be gods, but I fear their supply of Floof will be insufficient.
They will have to import Floof from reliable sources, such as the Floof squad since it provides high quality and fairtrade Floof without mistreating any floofy being.
When hubris outweighs floof – & ignores eye witnesses to dread events – powers are destined to fail.
Anyone else think that a convocation/moot of gods will just be too tasty to ignore?
Argist mentioned emissaries, So it sounds like it will be groups of mortals -which wouldn’t present such a useful target for the collector – but a large gathering of notable gods does sound like the sort of thing the collector would crash.

there are also gods of other concepts like tahraim wiith blacksmithing and tynan as the god of a storm
May I suggest for your education the ‘calendar.’ section of Extra Lore of this webpage? A bit dry but chock full of gods.
“We can make other tools”
Wow! Fuck you
Yeah, that was my first thought too. I’m curious to see how this plan will go horribly wrong.
That sounded more like Kendal wasn’t something (someone) they can replace or fix as easily. Still being much more than a dick, but Argist appears to think of that as being kind “no you don’t need to put yourself in danger.”

the vibe I got from “we can make more tools” felt more like “You are sentient, and therefore no longer a tool”?
*snort*
this is just like when Mina was cut out of planning in Dracula
And as we all know that didn’t backfire horribly in like FIVE MINUTES! What could POSSIBLY go wrong?!!
absolutely fantastic reference
The Collector, squishing her face against the window: Sounded like you said ‘free god buffet’ but whatever
oh gods. I was getting oddly foreboding vibes from this page and now I know why. I really hope this doesn’t happen.
This comment should not be as funny as it is
This made me laugh so much, your comment is RIGHT on point – thank you 🤣
I don’t often comment on how beautiful the art is, but – Wow, that seventh panel!
Please comment more then! Include specific details to please our hosts (Red and the rest of Overly Sarcastic Productions) and share your view with us too! Oh. Wow. That gorgeous glowing wave.
I think Argist and the other gods must not know about (or count) the lesser gods the Collector grabbed, experimented on, and I think killed. So they’re vastly underestimating the danger she poses.
Or at least, they think she lacks the power to do the same to them, since she hasn’t finished dissecting Vash.
I’m sure trying to keep Kendal from doing the plot will work super duper well.
He’s such little guy here. little fledgling of a man.
The correct term is “manlete” sir.
Nah- the term is twink

How is nobody talking about Kendal’s sitting position??? He’s sitting criss cross apple sauce!!!
I get the feeling Kendal will have some trouble with the “We would not ask you to die for us” part
Awww, adults being responsible. It’s so refreshing to see. Imagine.
Why do I get this awful sense of foreboding that having the gods attack her is precisely what she wants?
Yeah, no. Last time we tried to tell him that he stabbed himself in protest
androgynous mermaid pirate bisexual is such a vibe
Perhaps even genderfluid?
Argist being literally (a?) gender fluid would be delightful.
His merfolk incarnation uses a different set of pronouns.
Dude, panel seven is freaking epic! The colors are awesome and it soooooo cool!!!!!!
Oh boy. Hubris of the gods. Or, at least, the hubris of one particular, beautifully drawn god.

Did he just get called a tool? Or did he just kid called Not a tool? Either way, I’m a little bit offended for him.
Because cutting out the protagonist crew from the main plot always works out so well… 🤣
Anyone think this reminds them of Frodo visiting Rivendell and the Council of Elrond?
YES. DEFINITELY.
The design of this God makes me want to sit and draw fanart for hours on end; I love it! And ah yes, the most fool proof plan of all: Telling the protagonists not to plot – This cannot go wrong in any way.
Man that “please enjoy your stay” sounded so RUDE like Argist is hinting that he doesn’t want Kendal around … Anyone else heard that or is just me??
It’s definitely the kind of rude a parent is to their four year old child. “Thank you kiddo, but I’ve got from here,” that kind of thing
Thank you for making this wonderful comic Red, I have been sick with a very unpleasant cold the last several days and I spent literally all day today just reading this whole thing and doing basically nothing else and it’s been the nicest day I’ve had in a while.

TL;DR: Relax, we’ll come back to the boss fight later.
“we can make Other tools” don’t say that Kendal is just starting his character arc about valuing himself
