O Red, while you make fun at the scene, T think panel one looks magnificent while panel seven makes me feel sorry for the poor four eyed dragon vessel/Lady Spirit, I know its good to have perspective on your own work but this page went from spectacular wonder to worried pity in just seven panels beautifully and artfully I think.
I agree with you about how awesome this page is, but I suspect that “clown 2 clown communication” is a nod to how the lens flare off their eyes looks a bit like the makeup patterns that clowns sometimes wear around their eyes.
(oh look, I’m early)
…kind of hoping the dragon is going to do a “vanish on the way down bc it’s made of spirit energy” thing, having dead dragons is both incredibly sad and probably a massive pain to clean off your cliffside.
I think she’s possessing a dragon considering the eyes went glowy after fighting tess not during, it said earlier that dragons act as a true name of the primordial dragons by having the same form allowing them to be possessed at any time.
Like @Nim said, the dragon was most likely possessed by the primordial Light dragon so I don’t think it would be dissolving into thin air, however I don’t believe that it will die. I mean, I can’t really tell how high is actually that cliff but heck, it’s a dragon, it can survive a little fall damage, in my opinion it will just take a big nap at the foot, wake up as good as new and then fly away in confusion.
Well I got here early. What strikes me is that he displays no recognition of Erin, suggesting either that Lord Stefan is more isolated, or that Elemental Floof is less known than he would like to believe. Stefan aldo appears particularly thoughtful, which might be good for the Floof Squad if them and the Paladins come to some sort of semi-truce. Either way, Stefan seems interesting.
Now on a different not, what do we think will happen to that discarded dragon? Because it looks fairly unconscious to me…
Can we talk about what “barely a child” means? Because Erin is an adult, and the champion seems like one as well. Are these two characters immortal, maybe? I know the light dragon is, but what about Stefan?
From the way he said it, Michael is in his early 20s at most, while Erin is 19 (verging on 20) per Word of Red.
Stefan looks to me like early-to-mid-50s.
Lord Stefan seems… not old, but older than the Champion. It’s possible that, from his perspective of experience and maturity, he sees both Erin and The Champion as very young, childish, or naive. Whatever he means, it’s very condescending.
Now, in Erin’s case, he’s probably right. This hubristic fool accidentally unleashed an apocalyptic threat simply because he could. By fixing the Pedestal and erasing the Storm, he not only put the entire world in danger (which, to be fair, he couldn’t have anticipated) but he also destroyed the lifestyles and cultures of various towns around the Storm, like Windcrest (which he could have totally anticipated, had he not acted so boldly.) Had Erin been more mature or more careful, there’s a good chance that the Void Dragon wouldn’t be free right now.
The Champion is more interesting. The Lady seems to have utmost faith in him, but he hasn’t interacted with any other Paladins at this point, so Lord Stefan’s disapproval of him might indicate a certain rivalry between the two, or some level of discord within the ranks. Perhaps Stefan believes that he would have made a better vessel for The Lady, or perhaps that The Champion displays flaws characteristic of the youth, much like Erin’s headstrong impulsiveness. Either way, his comparison of The Champion to Erin is the first instance of what will likely become a longstanding rivalry or foil-foil dynamic.
Maybe condescending, or maybe just regretful. To me, his face in panel 2 reads as weary grief, which is then overtaken by resolve in panel 3. He might be recognizing that two very young people are about to be in conflict with each other, driven both by their own egos/hubris but also by forces older than time, and they both have a high probability of dying in this conflict, when they both should have so much living left. Definitely some kind of foil setup, no matter how one reads it.
Aw I didn’t find his concern condescending at all. If anything it speaks to his character that he is troubled by the news. He isn’t immediately filled with bloodlust, but with regret that one so young has fallen to the Dragon. He’s level-headed and compassionate and while that doesn’t necessarily make him any less dangerous, he’s not so blinded by zealotism and righteousness that he’s beyond reasoning with. He’s not their ally, but they have similar goals and I believe he’s at least discerning enough to listen. Gives me hope that he might be able to work with the gang in the future.
Good call on the compassionate angle, it didn’t even occur to me, although I am very tired. I do see how his expression is more mournful than disapproving, so I’m inclined to agree with you both.
I’d say its just that Stefan is old i.e. 40s,50s,60s maybe magic can lengthen lifespans so perhaps older. From the perspective of a teen a child is from 1-12, at 20 closer to 1-14, in your twenties the distinction between child and teenager seems to blur and when your his age anyone less than 30 is practically a baby.
As someone who is 49, yes, 19 and 20-year-olds tend to look “barely more than a child” in many ways, and especially so relative to potentially lethal combat.
This hasn’t stopped me from writing a 14-yo having to solo a peryton and just barely winning, but the older you get the more young adults seem like only slightly not-children, mostly because you are aware of all the stuff they haven’t experienced yet.
From Red’s Tumblr:
When the Light Dragon says Stefan “bears her horns” that means they have some kind of special connection. There are seven parts in total, including how June/Theia has LD’s eyes. This is presumably the Sept Stefan is a crown of. Source
Interesting so horns, eyes, for the champion presumably fangs or claws for the champion as her main fighting force, but perhaps he might be her wings on account of his mobility or her right hand considering the whole angel look. That leaves four, if they’re a fighter I think they could be some variant of the options for the champion mentioned before, lady Huracan might be her mouth as her preacher who spread her teachings to humans, if there is a healer that might be her hand. There are also options not based on her biology like her sword or things like that but considering the two we know about so far being her horns and eyes I think they’re probably based off of the body parts of a dragon.
I think the champion is a whole different thing. Maybe he’s the bearer of her mind or her soul as one of those seven parts, the same way Erin is carrying around VDs true name/a direct link to his soul and the core of his being.
Or the champion is the bearer of her (true) name, but personally I don’t think he’s part of these possibly seven people at all.
Not sure if there are currently seven, as there may not have been an eyes-bearer before she chose Theia.
You gave me an idea, Falst, at the end of the last chapter Falst show some light based abilities, so based on all of this I think Falst has a part of the dragon
The horns of a dragon could be seen as a symbol of pride, meaning that “bearing her horns” could be a leadership position as a general or king of the Paladins or of that specific place.
My guess for the parts are: Horns, Eyes, Voice/Roar, Fangs, Claws, Wings, Name/Soul
So…that’s interesting. If the Dragon actually *is* dead, that implies worrying things about what happens if a Primordial decides to *leave* their chosen vessel. But I’m sure that won’t be a problem for anyone.
I don’t think it’s dead currently, but it will very likely will be the moment it hits the ground.
The square-cube law simply disagrees with anything that big falling any height.
Then again, Tynan was 10 times larger and fell from the sky, he was fine too. He was a god, but maybe it just doesn’t work that way in Aurora.
This dragon survived several lightning-backed punches from Tess (who at the time was known as Punchy Metal Lady) like they were gentle love-taps. Also, compared to its body size, it isn’t that far to the next terrace. Maybe one or two dragon-lengths. I think it’ll be fine. Dragons are obviously built to be durable.
So we’ve got one more page before the next chapter. I predict we’re going to get a cut-away to her Champion, or a page dedicated to seeing whether or not the Dragon dies from this fall.
Can someone point me to the page where LD’s Champ is introduced, or at least a page where he is visible? I don’t remember this young adult winged Paladin dude y’all are talkin’ ’bout at ALL.
Used to only lurk, and didn’t have social media with which to contact my friends outside school, then covid happened and I suddenly couldn’t bare that anymore and started commenting on things I had thoughts on.
A Discord friend asked all of us in the server if we wanted to do a survey on whether or not we found the characters of Aurora attractive and since I had never heard of it I was a perfect candidate for the survey. I got curious about the series after seeing all the characters and boom now I’m here lol
I’m a writer and I loved what HelloHaiku and the others were doing with writing bits of poetry based on the page, so I thought “Hmmm, what’s an easy, short-form poem that I can do that’s not what anyone else is doing?” and the instant answer was “Limerick!” I have since found that limericks aren’t actually as easy as they seem when they have to relate to a comic page, since finding different ways to start them so that I can have a different array of rhymes available is tricky when oftentimes there are several pages in a row about the same characters.
My process was kind of the same. I considered doing limericks for a while, then realised they’re way trickier than I can pull off. For that decision I am grateful, since you do them so well. Couplets was the first thing that then sprung to mind. I didn’t know what iambic pentameter was when starting out, which is why there is no consistent “tempo” to the couplets.
I also wanted to improve my English, since it isn’t a first language for me. And I’ve long struggled to find the courage to share my writing, so an anonymous space where I don’t have to meet anyone face-to-face was an excellent opportunity. It’s helped me to find confidence in myself as an artist to write here.
And, of course, I love the story and was long eager to share my thoughts and theories. So, here I am.
I’m sad and lonely and I talk too much when people will listen, so I tend to talk about myself a lot when I shouldn’t. Right now, for example.
Half kidding, of course, I just like sharing my thoughts with people mostly.
I kind of always wanted to comment but I didn’t see that I could write a comment too cuz I never bothered to scroll all the way down but in the last page of arc one I found out I could write comments and have been doing so ever since!
I don’t usually have much to say about the events transpiring on the pages, I’ve had difficulty viewing the pages’ alt-text on my phone, and I’ve seen people mention the image sources before. I thought I’d help make things more convenient for everyone by posting the alt-text and image sources in the comments as soon as possible. It’s also nice to see people’s responses.
Hey I know this is random but remember in windcrest right before we meet erin? I’ve just read it with my cousin (she’s way behind) and I spotted Tess there in the background!!! And also in the head guy’s room there is a painting of vash fighting Tynan, and I’m like, “foreshadowing much?”
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: clown 2 clown communication really takes it outta you

Shit someone hit the power button on her
ohh, now i’m REALLY curious about the champion. another youth dragged into highly worldly burdens?
kudos to uncle stefan for being concerned man
Now he knows his face
Exhausted, the dragon falls
Off of the cliffside
Ooh, he realized the champion and Erin look somewhat alike!
And did she just kill that dragon?
Hopefully the dragon will come to its sense and fly off back home, poor dragonkins!
kinda rude of her to just drop it off a cliff smh
I thought he was just referring to Erin and the Champion’s age, though, not their overall appearance?
The coms are done, so now a break
And tragic end for the strom drake?
Well I got here early. What strikes me is that he displays no recognition of Erin, suggesting either that Lord Stefan is more isolated, or that Elemental Floof is less known than he would like to believe. Bah, I meant “note”. Ah well, the point still stands.
It could be that while Erin’s name is well known his face isn’t
Oh wow imagine that dragon just DIES
That would be a sad for such a magnificent creature, if not safe to be around normally. Dragons are cool to think about and draw!
MMM whatcha saaay
Can we talk about what “barely a child” means? Because Erin is an adult, and the champion seems like one as well. Are these two characters immortal, maybe? I know the light dragon is, but what about Stefan?
From the way he said it, Michael is in his early 20s at most, while Erin is 19 (verging on 20) per Word of Red.
Stefan looks to me like early-to-mid-50s.
Who’s Micheal?
That’s the fan nickname of the Light Dragon’s Champion. After the archangel.
The champion Stefan mentions. He’s called that here because he looks like an angel, and Michael is a famous angel name.
Michael is the name that we, the commenters, gave the light dragon’s champion.
Ah thank you
Lord Stefan seems… not old, but older than the Champion. It’s possible that, from his perspective of experience and maturity, he sees both Erin and The Champion as very young, childish, or naive. Whatever he means, it’s very condescending.

Maybe scales as one of them for a protection type thing
I think the champion has her wings… because he has wings. But claws make sense too.

With that light magic at the end of the last arc, Falst might have part of the LD
Falst, at the end of the last arc he had that magic light based ability. He might have the claw of the light dragon, probably in a metaphorical sense
Falst, he had that light thing at the end of the last arc, he might have part of the dragon
Whether a full set can Voltron together into a mecha dragon remains to be seen.
Stefan: And I’ll form the head!
No but seriously, that is a great mental image. I will now accept nothing less than a dragon mecha from this series.
Wait, seven beings connected to the Lady? And potentially seven Floof Squad members total? Are the Paladins going to form an… anti-Floof Squad?
You gave me an idea, Falst, at the end of the last chapter Falst show some light based abilities, so based on all of this I think Falst has a part of the dragon

Right, Erin?
Right Alinua???

Red has said- multiple times- that this world doesn’t conform to real world physics. I can’t remember any specifics, but… yeah.
Could also just be a side effect of the Light Dragon *checks notes* forcing her meat puppet to fly non-stop for like a week without food or rest
TL;DR: Nobody ever asks “HOW is God?” Well she’s suffering, thank you very much.
So we’ve got one more page before the next chapter. I predict we’re going to get a cut-away to her Champion, or a page dedicated to seeing whether or not the Dragon dies from this fall.

Is falst the one who bears her eyes? he did some blue thingie in the cave right
Hey I know this is random but remember in windcrest right before we meet erin? I’ve just read it with my cousin (she’s way behind) and I spotted Tess there in the background!!! And also in the head guy’s room there is a painting of vash fighting Tynan, and I’m like, “foreshadowing much?”
It’s sharing such details with others that make easter eggs in games and stories so fun.
Same age? Vessels for opposing forces? Both incredibly hot? Damn, they should kiss about it
Its certainly possible, eventually
