also his teacher would be all “erin I TOLD you these field trips were too dangerous to do alone” and he’d be like “it only went wrong ONCE” and it’d be a whole thing

Oh, that turn was not on my radar XD
Ah! More scholars of the way of hubris! Will our heroes ever encounter them? Of course they will!
Luckily Asera is on a different island, or at least that’s what they said on the Discord after decoding the map.
Erin is soo done with our lovable idiots, its great
I find it strange that you don’t consider Erin to be one of those idiots, despite the fact that he’s the one who got himself possessed by the void dragon
Maybe they don’t consider Erin lovable.
Erin is GREAT and anyone who disagrees can die by my sword
I love all of Team Fluffy, but you are absolutely correct and you have my axe
And you have my bow
And my spear!
You have my special access-card to the local ancient super weapons as well
And my bread sword made out of a bagel and a baguette
And my glock
And my pet frog, dunno what he can do but it might help
And my cool rock, it’s a really cool rock
and my m79 thumper
My vote is also on the side of “Plus there’s some people who don’t like me, and who would love to see me on that specific side of the microscope.”
Aaaand the squirrel left. 🙁
Damn. I thought that squirrel would become a main character, but alas, our hopes were not long lived.
I just want to point out the fact that the seventh element is no longer protected by spoilers.
Given what it said about the current theories of a seventh element, and Erin showing with VD very much confirming this… it makes sense that Erin wouldn’t want to go back just yet.
He’s not like the collector, or the academy for that matter. He doesn’t prioritise meticulous study over human well being… or at the very least not his own.
When you think about it he’s very good at keeping track of these prioritise and if he’s right about them, then that makes them easy to manipulate. Easier than Erin, because Erin is strong willed despite his hubris and as he said, ‘Petty and Vindictive’. From the way he describes the general attitudes of those at the Academy, it seems like they would be more likely to fall for a ‘promise of knowledge or power’ from VD than Erin would. So if Erin does end up on the wrong side of the microscope, VD could use that opportunity to trick people into freeing him for realsies, or at the very least making him more powerful.
Also also, this whole conversation makes me feel like the academy will totally find them. Just sayin’ 😉
Also, I’m sorry guys, i write a lot in a short amount of time… it’s kind of ridiculous… but i’m still going to be posting my theories in the comments because…. i really need an outlet, and i Love this Comic

Well, now we know where Erin learned how to have hubris. An entire academy of Erins. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
An entire academy of erins…hmmm. I think that might be good in a way since they’ll also be smart but quite horrible since, ya know, it’s an entire academy of pompous nitwits
Did my personal nickname for Erin just enter common circulation? Fyi I usually capitalize it. Erin is the only one who gets the esteemed title of (Pompous) Nitwit.
It sounds bad. An entire academy of amoral, bureaucratic Erins. Or at least an entire faculty of amoral, bureaucratic Erins.
The faculty would be the amoral bureaucrats (with a few possible exceptions), while a sizable portion of the students are likely garden variety pompous nitwits, Erin of course being chief among them as THE Pompous Nitwit
“garden variety pompous nitwits, Erin of course being chief among them as THE Pompous Nitwit”
This comment is amazing. You had me at garden variety pompous nitwits.
Mr glowy paladin is now on the character page btw
Wait, they have microscopes?
If they have magical hazmat suits, why not magical microscopes?
Unexpected technology, but perhaps elemental magic users could have had advances with a speed that is impossible for us to achieve.
Thing is, none of the elemental magics can magnify an image, and the technology we’ve seen here thus far is very medieval; the hazmat suits are only possible due to a fictional material, soulcrystal, that blocks elemental magic; the suit itself is likely made of some sort of thick cloth or leather, with the soulcrystal being placed at the center as a sort of ward to protect the whole thing. There isn’t a similar explanation in place (yet) as to how they could have microscopes, as those were invented in the real world during, if I remember correctly, the 16 or 1700s (with nowhere near the magnification possible by today’s microscopes).
Microscopes, at least simple light microscopes, are nothing much fancier than a few lenses, some clockwork, a tube, and a light source. If anything, their microscopes could hypothetically be much better than that developed by Robert Hooke originally, since skilled stone mages could hypothetically make the lenses with little difficulty, and they’d probably be much finer-tuned.
Maybe a combination of stone and fire mages in the glass making process allows such lenses to be produced.
I’ve now got images of fire, stone and air mages working as professional glass blowers in my head.
Very interestingly shaped facepalm he has in panel four.
Also, did anyone else notice they’ve moved? Where did they go?
Looks like a forest
He looks like he’s in a kpop video
I love how offended Erin gets when he’s accused of lying. It’s kinda adorable 🙂
… Do they have microscopes?
Kendal: Why shouldn’t we go to your school?
Erin: Imagine a school where everyone acts like me.
Alinua: That’s a very good reason, we should not go there ever.
MAYBE, I act like THEM?
SO We have a hyperactive child with a lot of intelligence who enjoys riding their bike for endless ours in a loop, reading & doesn’t mind fighting BUT HATES bullies.
Where would you send. them?
I don’t know, but hell may be sitting in an uncomfortable chair while some empowered simpleton “tells” you what THEY THINK is going on.

Our entire crew here would probably be in danger if they happened to run into any of the “scholarly” and ever so slightly power hungry Aseran mages.
Kendal is a gods’ vessel that has been separated from its soul, and yet he has survived and has developed his own personality. Alinua has been infected with the chimeric plague since birth, has somehow survived to adulthood, and has made contact with the life primordial. Erin is, as he already said, the only living void mage at the moment. To most of the people from the mage academy they would be a bunch of living experiments.
So- wait, does Erin referring to himself as a void mage mean that he is willing to use Kurama (read Walter)’s powers, even if it means getting possessed again?
… Could it be that Erin is actually “humble” compared to most Aseran mages? That’s a scary thought.
An independent vessel of a captured god, a chimeric plague survivor linked to the life primordial and the element magus possessed by an eldritch evil. Oh yeah, the academy would want to study all of them. Kendal might get off the hook if Asera gets involved, as a god they’re vulnerable to the collector, and Erin potentially from his family connections, but Alinua probably not.
Also gotta say, lovely backgrounds with the tree silhouettes and beams of light through the tree canopy.
Erin is craze!
TL;DR: Narrator mcNerdman is offended. Apparently, magic school’s got amoral mages (shocker, I know) who might wanna study mcNerdman because he’s super special.
Alternate TL:DR: Possessed Floof definitely has some complex/tragic backstory with that overreaction after being accused of lying by Life Floof. Apparently The Academy is full of Floofs similarly nerdy/crazy to Possessed Floof, who’s name sake makes him a desirable test candidate. Apparently the Academy is ok with the possibility of the world ending, they’re as crazy as a guy who sees an unstable pedestal that creates a DangerStorm™️ and decides, “Imma touch it.”
*gasp* Kendal is petting a squirrel!
alt text: Amoral, power-hungry mages? In MY fantasy narrative??
It’s more likely then you think
This is golden
sorry but can we appreciate kendal just sitting there with his squirrel-like ahhh it’s so cute
Kendal let the squirrel go. That means s*** is about to get real
Let’s not go to Asera now
Lest he before microscopes must bow
Will we get an adorable animal sidekick that is somewhat sentient and forms a deep emotional bond with one of our protagonists, cause I wanna see that. I could see any of the Floof Crew™️ being the one to get the bond, Kendal’s innocent Disney princess vibe could work with basically anyone, Alinua being Life Floof could make sense with befriending living things, Erin being close to an animal would be funny especially if Vidi was scared of the animal (if he were to befriend an animal, I’d imagine it’d be cat)
I wanna see that, pleeeeeese
See, this page is one of the reasons I keep insisting that the world of Aurora is technologically in the early-industrial stage, not your traditional ren-faire or faux-Medieval kind of fantasy-world tech level. Erin mentions a microscope, even if it is a metaphor that could plausibly be said to have been localized for us, and the Aseran Academy is dedicated to the physical and magical sciences. Most of us are deeply mistaken about how “ignorant” people were before the 1500s, but the level of the machinery, material tech, and magical applications really support the image of a society that has achieved the ability to improve itself, to try experiments, and explore the unknown. In fact, they seem to know what a great deal of their world looks like already, and have a working, if incomplete, idea about how magic works and of the nature of their gods.
