Imagine seeing an Overly Sarcastic Productions reference in the comments section of a comic written by the person who narrated that Overly Sarcastic Production.
“This millennia old storm that unleashes the wildest forms of magic in a deadly capacity, originates from an abandoned, devastated ancient facility, from an old, magically immune race, and at the very center lays a pedestal gashing pure energy… IMMA TOUCH IT!!!”
One of the proposed ways of dealing with nuclear waste is to seal them into diamonds, which has the added benefit of creating a low-energy battery that potentially lasts thousands of years.
I am now wondering if there are fantasy worlds where the power crystal trope is based on that concept. The magic gem used to power a magic staff is really some ancient civilization’s nuclear* container battery.
*Or the fantasy equivalent
I don’t think it’s explicitly radiation, it’s just that the mechanics of the storm, elemental corruption, and the Ancient technology at the center of the storm have some parallels with nuclear radiation and nuclear reactors, i.e. “This energy is very useful if harnessed correctly, but horrifically catastrophic if something goes wrong, as it clearly did here”
Irrelevant question: Will Kendal ever age? Vash probably never spent long periods in his incarnation, so I imagine any aging reset every time he incarnated. But what happens if his body is just constantly in use? Gods are supposed to live forever, but their bodies are only supposed to be used for short periods.
Good question, from the end of chapter 3 Alinua said his body heals faster that normal implying that his incarnated bodies are meant to last at least a little while to fight, heal, then get back into the fray. Longer than that though I’m not sure, it could be a plot point that his body is not supposed to last long term and he has only a limited time to rescue Vash before he dies.
Of course Alinua wouldn’t allow him to just accept his fate, after all he rescued her from a similar mindset and would want to do the same for him.
And on the pedestal these words appear: “My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and DON’T MESS WITH THE FABRIC OF REALITY IT WILL NOT END WELL SERIOUSLY DON’T.” Nothing beside remains.
TL;DR: During Hubris floof’s flashback, he finds the center of the Storm (RIP) in the middle of a ghost town, where he sees a big bottomless jar sucking the sky.
So, funny story, my chemistry teacher showed the Chernobyl miniseries in class on the last few days of school just this year, and I started reading this almost immediately after, so because it was still fresh in my mind I was already making connections between the scary magic stuff and nuclear radiation that I assumed were completely unfounded and I only spotted because monkey brain likes pattern, so imagine my surprise when I read the little comment under the page there.
I love how all the first commenters already know Erin’s gonna touch it. I mean, yeah, we know something horrible happened to him just now, but still, Red has clearly gotten Erin’s character across to the audience quite well, in the dozen-odd panels we’ve seen or heard from him.
Other thoughts: Now we know what happened to Ancient Valyria! Also, Auroras powering the magic? Man, I really need to read the lore dump
calling it now, it’s the master emerald
Upon that pedestal WERE COLORS NO ONE HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!!
…
Don’t shoot.
Bahahaha I commented about the Lovecraftian energy and I didn’t even bother to see if anyone else had.
Good one!
Mysterious colors, unlike any seen in Earth
MYSTERIOUS COLORS UNLIKE ANY SEEN ON EARTH!! lol

And I rate them. 11/10 for collaborative effort.
There must be something lethal beyond imagining a few meters in front of me. Better take a few steps forward and sketch it.
-Every Wizard ever
The way he introduces the Pedestal feels weirdly Lovecraftian
“This millennia old storm that unleashes the wildest forms of magic in a deadly capacity, originates from an abandoned, devastated ancient facility, from an old, magically immune race, and at the very center lays a pedestal gashing pure energy… IMMA TOUCH IT!!!”
you damn fool, erin.

Erin, RULE NUMBER ONE of exploring dangerous places: DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS!
“So, how many kinds of dust particles do you want for chapter 6?”
Red: *Crushes scouter*
“RUN YOU FOOLS”
Finally the little teaser that Red posted months ago on twitter makes sense
It took me way too long to find out why the heck this comic was called aurora. That is, right now.
Okay, I’m going to say it now: his tattoos are SO PRETTY
So the mysterious sixth element is radiation?
I love Erin “I’m seeing weird ass colors and something clearly went wrong here. Nothing to worry about.”
seventh* counting is not my forte okay

I was joking. Communication isn’t my forte either EHEHEHEEH

Idk I’m just trying to figure out if Kendal could theoretically die of old age if Vash never got his body back.

I went from ‘Oh cool a reference to a poem I like!’ to laughing my head off faster than Vash killed those monsters back in chapter 1
Mood, my guy
I’m just waiting for the last chapter where vash tries to take kendals body back and the crew have to fight him
where is alinua tho?
Yes, go search for Dingo Doodles on YouTube. Dnd
This page is very shiny and is therefor very good.

alt text: that seems friendly and nonthreatening
“The auroras” not me feeling smart for making a connection.
In the middle of the storm was a city of old
And a pedestal, of which we’re about to be told
I love how all the first commenters already know Erin’s gonna touch it. I mean, yeah, we know something horrible happened to him just now, but still, Red has clearly gotten Erin’s character across to the audience quite well, in the dozen-odd panels we’ve seen or heard from him.

Sick Tats McHubris is truly the Sorcerer of the party.
